I love my GHD’s. In my opinion having owned my previous pair for 12 years, the quality is second to none.So with that in mind when said pair decided to retire ( after everyday use for over a decade!) I didnt hesitate in buying a replacement pair from GHD. (Original)Delivery super speedy and apart from my new pair now has a snazzy bleep to tell me they are up to temp - all looked very similar. Perhaps a smidge more curved in design but all good.On first use I could tell straightaway there is a difference in the plates. As pointed out by previous reviewers there is a slight gap between one end of the plates which GHD say is for when they expand once up to temp. You can see the gap cold or hot when clamped together. This I personally feel when smoothing the plates over my hair. The end with no gap feels an even tension. The end with the gap my hair slips through it without straightening it properly. There is no even tension in the plates anymore and I notice the tighter end pulls ocassionally. Ive noticed a slight breakage too on my hair where I’m sure uneven straightening is the culprit.Brilliant straighteners and I’m learning to adjust to how I need to be aware that I cant clamp my hair evenly but gotta say- all designs do eventually change but this is my opinion isnt for the better.Bit baffled why this must be considered an improvement?Easy to hold and get nicely hot to give a sleek look but gaps in plates ( is this just in the Original or all models?) is why sadly I have to knock a star off my rating.

I had my last GHD for over six years, it was solid, reliable and never failed to do the job right the first time. I had to buy a replacement early this year. First off it is a GHD IV, basic model. As it was just after Christmas paying extra for it to be a colored version was just not an option. The product itself is a much lighter version than my old model which is to be expected. It seems solidly made, has a safety feature incase you forget to switch it off and beeps when its ready for used - it has caused no functional problems to date. However on using the product, I am not 100% satisfied. It does not give the sleek finish I would expect and have experienced from a GHD.My hair is naturally straight and does not require much attention. However using the GHD IV, I have to use much smaller segments of hair, go over sections and sometimes just leave it as it does not seem to give the sleek finish. Very frustrating when you are heading out and you have odd frizzy looking ends....not exactly a good hair day. I would say something if my hair was in bad condition, but it is well maintained and is cut on a regular basis, so it is not unruly split ends running riot.at the end of the day, it gives a decent finish and I would recommend it. I would however say if you are replacing an older model...they don't make them like they used to :(.

I have used the GHD IV styler for years, my first set lasted 6 years and still work the same as they did the day I got them, but because I curl my hair alot the wire in the inside must have become twisted after 6 years of curling rotations as they started to turn off whilst in use and I had to wiggle the wire. I've had to use a different type of straightners when Im not able to use mine and nothing compares. This product heats up super quickly and stays at a consistant hot temperature, which means you don't need to waste time going over the same section of hair 3 or 4 times as it straightens perfectly first time. Its brilliant at creating curls that last - whether it's soft wavy curls or tight ringlets. It has a sleek design and is comfortable to handle, and the on/off switch being placed on the inside means you wont accidently flick the switch off half way through styling like some other straightners i've used! It glides over the hair and doesn't get caught or pull at the ends. I reccommend this product 100% it lasts years and works better than any product i've used. The only reason I didn't rate 5 stars on features is because it doesn't have a heat adjustment setting, although it really isn't a big deal.

I've tried many straightners in the past but for some reason have stayed away from GHD's! No particular reason other than the price seemed a bit extreme. I can honestly tell you you'll love the ghd's. Every single previous straightner that i owned took me around 30mins-1hr to do my hair. I'm no professional and kind of just do it anyhow, none of that clipping hair back etc. So as you can imagine it meant I never really had STRAIGHT STRAIGHT hair. My hair is curly and a bit on the frizz side so i've kind of gotten used to that fried hair look! But these ghd's have become my absolute holy grail! I use the same method of crazy striaghtening with no actual structure as to how i do my hair, but the outcome is not a fried out look. The time it takes is defo shortened to about 10mins? Ofc it may take you longer for the perfect look as i just go crazy! But trust me, you'll understand once you've tried it. Wait for the discount maybe, if you're a student they sometimes do a 20% discount if price is the issue.

Ghd IV does everything as promised: quick heating time, easy to use for both straightning and curling, quick cool down and even nice, light structure. As I have used mine only for about month, can't really tell whether or not it was worth the whopping price (I am expecting to use the same iron for several years, as my previous survived for 5 years!) - But so far so good! The most impressive (and surprising) feature for me was that this iron seriously seems to be very gentle with the hair (which I didn't think was possible when ironing one's hair), and straightning gives a very natural look kind of "automatically". Awesome! One little minus though: it doesn't come with any kind of cover or a bag to keep it safe and to use under it while it warms up,and unfortunately I haven't found such anywhere. So I am using still the cover I got with my previous straightner. But if this is the biggest flaw this straightner has (as it so far seems to be), I'd say ghd is well worth it and I warmly recommend it!

I received my first set of ghds when I was 18 and have never looked back. They worked a treat on my (at times frizzy) mass of curls. A different cut and newer model ghds have resulted in a severe decrease in the time it takes to do my hair, however, nothing beats that first time feeling of encountering perfectly smooth, straight hair at home.A little dramatic perhaps, but truly they are the best invention for frizzy curls since a certain brand of serum. The only thing that I'm not a fan of is the removal of dual plugs. Previous models allowed you to remove the casing to reveal a European plug, removing the need for another adapter. Perhaps a small, insignificant gripe to some but was very valued by my household. The introduction of dual voltage to work in both UK and US is a lovely addition. No more Monica, holiday hair!Excellent value for money, I can't ever see myself using another brand and can't recommend them enough. Go on, treat yourself! You deserve them

I have been eyeing this flat iron since 2007 (you read correctly). I could never convince myself to commit to paying so much for a flat iron, especially if it has only one heat setting. I was a bit skeptical, but went ahead and purchased the iron during their 20% off sale. This iron blew my mind. First of all, let me say that my hair was dried with a blow dryer using the tension method. It wasn't bone straight, but my curls and coils were stretched to a degree. I was able to get my textured hair straight with one pass. I used two passes on the few sections of my hair that are really tightly coiled and coarse. My hair was extremely soft and looked very healthy. It wasn't limp or lifeless; it still had a lot of body and thickness. There was no burnt hair smell or anything. I loved the results and am so glad that I finally committed to a GHD. I had a FHI before, but the GHD is much better in terms of quality and performance. I won't be using any other flat iron again.

Well this isn't really a proper review as I only had my straighteners for a few days before I had to send them back to GHD as they kept producing a burning plastic smell.Aside from that, the straighteners themselves were amazing, compared to the Remingtons I usually use they were by far superior. The plates glide through the hair like butter and they straighten QUICK. They also left my hair incredibly shiny and soft unlike the Remingtons and I noticed my hair stayed straight for much longer.I have to admit I wasn't expecting that much from them as I thought the hype was just a hype and they must just be expensive, overrated straighteners; but they really do deserve the hype.I am however disappointed that my pair seem to be broken hence why I sent them back and am waiting to hear if they're being repaired or if I'm getting a new pair.I would have liked for the plates to be longer however as they are quite short compared to most straighteners.

Being aged 61 and refusing to grow up, I have reasonably thick hair which I colour my hair on a regular basis, this leads me to have to buy gallons of conditioner, and heat protect products, my straighteners were coming to the end of thier time as they were now burning my hair and making it brittle and break. I had often wondered ,how when i had been to the hairdressers my hair always felt sleek and smooth and now i know, IT IS GHD STYLERS, they , transform my thick dry brittle hair , in to sleek, shiny, and soft hair, and the good thing is that it lasts for a couple of days, so my hair is in much better condition, I LOVE MY GHD STYLERS, and the best thing was that my lovely daughter bought them as a gift.I think that my GHD's and i are going to have a very long and happy friendship, I will never buy a cheap pair again, I have yet to purchase a bag to keep them safe in, and i will try your heat protection treatment, then they will be even better .

I wanted one for many years, but could never really afford it or 'justify' the cost, but my husband bought me a ghd recently as a present and I love it! I had used friends' ones previously, and just loved the way my hair was after using them.Unlike any other straightener I've used #and trust me, I've spent many dollars and hours on many different models - don't know why I didn't just buy a ghd in the first place and safe myself some money!#.They are a bit more expensive than the others, but believe me when I say a ghd is worth every penny. The super-fast heat up, the safety of having it turn itself off if not used after 30 minutes #no more stressing when I'm half way to work "Did I turn the straightener off?"#,and just something about the magic plates on the ghd, that makes it glide easily over my hair, and work on the first pass every time. Could not recommend them any more. I will never buy another brand again.

I brought the ghd IV styler and a new ghd classic because my trusted old ghd classic from 9 years ago finally broke on me, so sticking to what I know works on my hair, I brought the latest version of it. I sent back the classic and kept the styler, but i was still disappointed!Sadly this is still the best hair straightener for my curly, frizzy hair to tame it, when I want it straight, but since it has evolved from when i brought it 9 years ago, it is poorer for it. It neither of them straighten my hair to the quality it was before. It's still straight, but now its a bit fluffy, where as the older version made it poker straight. I don't quite know how, with all the new technology they have, how they have made a worse product then they did before, but they have. Sadly I have no choice but to use it as this is still a lot better than its nearest contender, but i want the old ghd classic hair straightener back please!

Don’t let looks fool you! This simple looking straightener is magic! All features written in no specific order.1) It is ready to go in 15 seconds maximum! 2) It works at one temperature. So, you don’t need to guess what temp works best; it is set to the best temp for hair to not do damage. 3) The outside gets pretty warm, but not enough to burn you. So, if it gets super close and the outside brushes your skin, you won’t get a burn. 4) Nice long cord.5) Flows over my hair rather than feeling like I’m dragging my hair kicking and screaming through it.6) Fits comfortable in my hand7) Ease at doing fun flips, beach waves, etc. with minimal effort8) Very lightweight9) Cools down fast I just love it!I’ve had it for 3 weeks and it is an incredible investment so far! Keep in mind that these are based my own opinions and experiences. They aren’t a guarantee or promise.

So didn't want to leave a snap review so have taken my time. My wide panel GHD's died around 3 months ago. Heart broken is putting it mildly. Being mixed race my hair has crazy curls but is quite European in texture, so I decided to go for the skinny panel version because I wanted to experiment with ringlets something which wasn't possible with the wider pantelis as my hair is not particularly long.So here it is; do they work, yes. They do straighten my hair but my hair doesn't stay straight any more, my routes frizz after about 20 minutes and my hair slowly rises as the curls fight to return. I have to use more product to keep it straight which leaves my hair feeling bogged down and heavy.Would I recommend them, yes in would to my European friends, to anyone who has hair like mine, I'm on the hunt for something with longer effects. Sorry GHD, all good things must come to an end.

My GHD's have made me feel like a new woman. What a difference sleek hair makes! I am a big hair health enthusiast so using heat on my hair, especially directly applied from straighteners was a big no-no before GHD converted me. I have only used them 3 times in nearly 4 weeks since getting them but each time is an absolute delight and the results speak for themselves. I only wash my hair once a week, then blow-dry and straighten myself. This revolves around my plans but I always try to adhere to heat styling with around a week between each time. I have very thick hair which I think makes it stay clean, providing I brush with a clean boar bristle brush morning and night.GHD's however give a sleekness that I have never been able to achieve until now. I am very thankful for their safe technology that makes this possible. Use GHD's wisely and they are an invaluable investment!

I've owned dozens of straighteners, mostly in the £30-80 pound range because I just didn't want to splash out on a GHD. Yeah, yeah...it's "the best," all the stylists swear by them, blah, blah, blah. But honestly, if you add up ALL the less expensive straighteners I've bought, with their shoddy plates, awkward barrel designs, and cheap parts/construction, I could have easily have bought one GHD that would have done the job 1000X better, and been more durable and reliable to boot! This straightener is fantastic!! Quickly heats up, nice even heat the full length of the barrel, the plates don't tug and break my hair, and there's even an automatic shut-off (which is great for busy days when you can't remember if you switched it off,but you really hope you haven't burnt down your house...). Would definitely recommend this brilliant straightener...it's soooo worth the money!
