This is a smart looking external drive that is even more compact and hence pocketable than my usual LaCie drives. The rose gold drive I have tested looks like it is made by Gucci rather than G technology. It is well built and looks as if it should last a long time. From a purely aesthetic perspective, this is a great match for the Rose Gold MacBook. It is also available in Silver and Space Grey, if you want to match the colour scheme of your MacBook Pro.It comes with USB-C to USB-C and USB-C to USB-A cables so should be fully compatible with computers old and new. I connected it to my MacBook Pro 2017 and tested its speed at transferring large files of Lightroom Previews. This drive has a transfer speed of “up to 140 MB/s”. I was really impressed to find that it transferred 3, 8 and 34 GB files at a really consistent 110-119 MB/s. When I then compared it to my LaCie Rugged Pro, I found that it was far faster, 60% faster for the smaller files and 250% faster for the largest file. This is a really impressive performance. The drive was also very quick to mount and eject. With a 2 TB capacity, this will contain a very large collection of photographs, videos or audio files whilst it is so portable that there is no reason not bring it with when carrying around a laptop. I am very impressed by this drive and can easily recommend it.

It amazes me that this small storage device, smaller in both size and weight than most mobile phones, will hold an incredible 2TB of material. Transfer rates of up to 140MB/s are quoted and I didn’t achieve quite that rate, but the files I wanted to back up are huge, with just my stash of photographs getting close to this unit’s capacity, so I was happy just to set this off and leave it going. It is set up for immediate use with MAC but can also be used with Windows if you format it first. USB-C and USB-A cables are supplied in the box, along with limited other information (you don’t need much) and details of the 3 year warranty. The exterior is tactile as well as handsome. This is a great little unit that looks stylish and is immensely portable thanks to its diminutive size, yet it has a high storage capability. You can back up thousands of photographs and movie footage to take with you, sufficient to bore most audiences with holiday snaps from the last decade. It will also perform a useful function at home, just to ensure you have a separate stash of data should other devices fail or get lost.

I see that some people have had problems with this drive not working after a few months so I waited before writing this review just in case! Well, I haven't had any problems with it - it's plug and play, super easy to use. I have a Mac and have a couple of G-Drives, both of which have never given me any problems. They're small so they tuck behind the screen nicely and I take one away when I go on hols so that I have access to all my files just in case I get a rushed job request in. Small enough to fit in my handbag when I go away. I take them to all my client meetings along with my laptop and they've not failed me yet. That being said, I look after them,I have never dropped one so I can't say for sure how hardy they'd be if that happened, I also don't try to move them whilst the disk is still whirring away but wait for them to completely disengage from my computer and stop whirring before moving them. I moved house recently so they were tossed around in a box for a bit and still work just fine. Great disk capacity - I use one of them for complete system back-ups, data transfer is quick and easy.

Small and lightweight, especially given the generous 2Tb of storage, and ready to go for Mac computers. Will also work with Windows, but you'll need to format it first. The connectivity is USB-C and they helpfully include both C-to-C and A-to-C cables, so that you can use it with any computer. It is fast, as you'd reasonably expect for USB-C although copying several hundred Gb still feels like an age.The case doesn't feel particularly robust - I always treat external HDDs with kid gloves, but if you are used to mistreating your drive, this probably isn't going to be rugged enough for you.The rose gold colour-scheme is far too ostentatious for my tastes, but thankfully there are more traditional options of grey and silver.

Really easy to install: this has enabled me to extend the size of my Xbox One storage. Simply plug into the USB socket at the back of the Xbox and then select for apps and game storage - not photos or video captures from games - and ask the Xbox to format. I would suggest keeping the main drive of the Xbox as your main storage point as it will then use the external drive as overspill.

I’m always nervous reviewing a storage device in case it fails the next day, but so far this is all good. For a 4TB drive it is remarkably compact (I have an older desktop version from the same company that is big, heavy and needs its own power supply - but has proved reliable). I use the new little drive for TimeMachine on my MacBook Pro. It is quick, quiet and stays cool.

I really like this range of products. I have had one before and find it easy to use and reliable. Best of all it is all set up and ready to work perfectly in synch with Apples' Time Machine
