I purchased this product as I needed a way to carry around my University notes, and programs without having to carry my laptop everywhere I went. I purchased this product from a high street shop after a recommendation. It is also very slim, so I am able to carry it around in my pocket, and it is like carrying my phone. This makes it easy for me to be able to take my files anywhere I go without any problems. When I purchased the Seagate Backup Plus (SBP), the store advisor informed me that it came with 200GB OneDrive account, which because my university uses Outlook and OneDrive, I thought this would be helpful for me. The SBP also comes standard with USB 3.0, so transfer speeds are brilliant, even for high memory files. When I first connected the SBP into my computer, I found that there was a couple of files already on it. These files were the warranty, program and the link for the OneDrive account. This made it very easy to be able to set everything up and be ready to go straight away. The version I purchased was the 1TB version in black. I am slightly disappointed that the place in which I purchased my SBP, they did not supply any white ones. I like to match my colours, so having to go for a black was a little bit of a disappointment, however this is of course a personal choice, and makes absolutely no impact at all to the product and its brilliance.I use this hard drive every day, both for University and my regular day to day life which needs file transfers. The fact it is capable being used with both PC and Mac is fantastic, as I personally own a PC, but regularly work on a Mac, so being able to use the same device is brilliant. I also, as stated previously can carry this in my pocket without any issues. There are one or two issues which I personally have experienced. Firstly, I find the wire a little 'flimsy'. Because the wire is short, it means I have to have the SBP very close to the computer when I am using it. This is a bit of a problem for me in particular, because I am often using a laptop, which is on my knees and I run programs which save straight to the hard drive, which means I am constantly trying to balance the device in a way not to break the wire. This brings up the issue of the connection from the wire to the actual hard drive. When it is plugged in, it feels weak, and I feel if I pull the wire out too hard, the metal at the end will break off, or if it is moved too far up or down while plugged in, as it does not feel very sturdy. However, in the past two weeks, I have used it everyday, and have not actually had any breakages, especially seeing as I have had a few instances where I thought the connection should have broken. But I still feel it is a little fragile. To improve the device, I would suggest a slightly longer wire, and a connection that feels a little more sturdy. Also, possibly some rubber on the bottom to stop it sliding around, as it is very slippy when on a smooth surface.Overall however, I believe this product is fantastic, and would recommend it. I would not however say that this is the best hard drive which I have seen, but at the price which you are paying it is very very good. Like I say, I use this everyday, and I have had very few problems. The program that comes with it, is good, however isn't mind blowing, as it does very little. If you want a program to manage files I'd suggest some other third party one, even though the Seagate Dashboard Agent is still useful for the few things it can do. I would recommend the Seagate Backup Plus, if you are looking for a small, slim hard drive to carry around easily, and to be used quickly with ease. If you are looking for something with a bit more security, and something a little tougher, it may be an idea, to shop around a look at something a little different. Overall though, I am definately happy with this product.

I was in need of a large capacity portable drive to use as backups and found the 4TB Backup Plus from Seagate. It worked after connecting it to the laptop and I began work on it. I removed all of the preloaded automated rubbish and encrypted the whole drive with Truecrypt. Having to rely on something automated to pack away valuable data into storage is foreign to me. Drag and drop is the way forward. I use Windows 7/10 OS. Over an hour later from my break, 257GB was successfully transferred without a hitch.I've learned of the disadvantages of drives configured to RAID 0 as it allows for total data loss if one of the two internal drives fails. With that in mind,I've done some research into the 2 similar offerings from Seagate before purchasing. I found that the "Backup Plus 4TB" which is the one I brought has 1 ONE internal 4tb drive inside. The other version which is called "Backup Plus FAST 4TB" has 2 Samsung drives inside and is configured to RAID 0, hence why the "Backup Plus FAST 4TB Portable" is more expensive than the "Backup Plus 4TB Portable".See here for price comparison and spec;http://www.amazon.co.uk/Seagate-STDA4000200-Backup-portable-external/dp/B00IGSB2ZK....and Google search "Seagate Review: Hands-On With the 4TB Backup Plus Portable Hard Drive With Lyve Integration" and its a site called MacRumors. There it'll tell you about the comparisons between the two 4tb 2.5" Portable offerings from Seagate. My only complaint about this drive is there are no rubber feet on it. Its actually quite annoying how incredibly slippery they are and they can easily they can slide off the table for example, if you're not careful. Take extra care with these on smooth surfaces. Lucky I have some Blu-Tack laying around. They work great with these drives.

Purchased this just over a year ago and I'm quite happy with it.In fact, I've just purchased the 2 terabyte version. However, I did encounter problems that others should beware of.I needed it for backing up my Windows Vista PC, which only has USB 2 ports.I accepted that I would not get the benefits of the drive's USB 3 status but did not expect it to be too bad. However, my backups turned out to be considerably slower; taking over 4 days in fact!I purchased an Inateck PCI-E USB 3 Expansion Card, hoping to resolve the problem. In one sense it did. Backups now took around 4 to 5 hours.Unfortunately, after a few successes, the PC kept losing its connection to the drive. As this did not happen straight away,I suspected that it was a heat problem somewhere. I was getting the same problems, when I was copying a large number of files to or from the drive.I guessed that it might be that the drive and expansion card were struggling with power. The drive does not have its own power supply and I suspected that it was not getting enough power from the card, so I purchased an Inateck Mini Portable 4 Port USB 3 Expansion Hub with its 5V 4A Power Adaptor.I have not had any problems since and my backups seem to have been even quicker. If you are thinking of buying this drive, think about how you expect to use it. If usage is likely to be heavy, either factor in the extra expence of the additional hardware that you might need or buy a more expensive drive with its own power supply. In the end, I am quite happy, because I would probably have wanted to buy the card and the hub some time anyway.

After buying a smart TV the other year it came as a surprise to find that it was not recordable. What?! It's 2017 for goodness sake. After needlessly spending money on memory sticks, it soon became apparent that these would be useless. Giving up hope, I left it for some time before finally trying once again. This time, a well know high street store's helpline advised me what I needed but then failed to deliver. In the end I chose Amazon, having asked the question on a similar device. It arrived a day or so later and I began using it in earnest. Well, after waiting almost two years, I finally found something that recorded freeview programmes on a smart tv. Oh - bring back video recorders! Please!!.Anyway, this device will record from the Philips smart tv but buyer beware in that it only comes with a half metre lead and (on mine anyway) struggles to record two films in a row if they follow each other - because of run ons possibly. Besides that, it records without other problems and in the end I am wholly delighted I can record programmes after all. Also, if you do record a programme, it will not let you watch another but will let you work another input in the meantime. I still believe the 80's technology was far far better and simpler and let you do a lot more. That said, the product suited me for what I needed and I can only provide feedback for the product's use in that direction so hope this has helped other potential buyers with similar concerns.

When my old 500MB Seagate External Drive malfunctioned after many years, I decided to get a similar product but with more memory as my computer, a 2009 Apple iMac generated more data inside over the years that required backing up in case it crashed, e.g Photos, Word Documents, Music Files etc. Seagate works well with the Apple iMac following previous experience and I was delighted to see on Amazon that they had a Seagate 2TB External Drive which is enough for my computer and I was surprised on how small and slim it is when I first got it, goes to show how far technology has come over time. Plugging it in with my computer by USB was simple yet installing it was a little tricky as my computer could not sense and read the drive. The installation wizard that came with it was of little help but after selecting Time Machine preference on my iMac and choosing the Seagate Drive as a Time Machine Backup then all was much better. This way that I did was much better then the wizard. Now my computer has files backed up regularly and no far I have no problems at all. This can backup PC files as well as for those with iMacs or similar Apple machines that require data backup, I would highly recommend this Seagate product as it works well without any problems and with minimal effort. Best device for my desktop computer.

I bought this device as I was aware that it house a Samsung M9T hdd. I wanted this drive to upgrade my PS4 from 500GB to 2TB. This external device was £10 cheaper than buying the drive on it's own... whilst it is a no brainer I was a little concerned as to how difficult it may be to get in to.The enclosure has a few 'glued' points, but is mainly fitted together with plastic. A thin screwdriver/razor blade run down the middle of the edges should get these to pop open. There is then a small adapter plugged in to the drives SATA connections which then pops out of the case to give your cable connection. This pulls off easily and release the drive itself.Once this was in the PS4 I placed the 500GB from the PS4 into the enclosure and 'popped the case shut...it worked instantly! If you are going to do this you will need to use device manager (or similar) to delete all of the partitions on the drive, the PS4 appears to create a partition for each and every game.Once this is done it works like any other external hard drive! So;The drive - works PERFECTLY in the PS4, slight speed increase but nothing overly noticeable, storage increased to 1.77TB available. The enclosure - can be used again with a different drive (note that if you use a different drive you will need a maximum of 9mm 2.5" SATA drive)

This appears to be a very well made, and very slim, external hard drive - the top is metal and the base is plastic. The only negative so far is very minor - the base doesn't have any rubber pads or inserts like some other makes, so the drive could slide around on the desk.On the positive side, however:- The drive is fast (based on a fairly unscientific test of copying a 1GB video file to/from this drive and another 1TB USB 3.0 drive, the result was that the Seagate was about 20% faster - but professional product reviews also confirm it's faster than most)- It comes with an NTFS driver for Mac OS so I've left it formatted as NTFS but read and write to it from my Mac- I like having the activityLED on the top of the case rather than at the rear so that it can be seen whichever way the drive is facing- It's powered by the USB cable (admittedly most are) so it very easy to use - just plug it in to USB, no power adapter needed (it also worked with a Raspberry Pi so it appear to be power efficient).I haven't rated durability because only time will tell, but so far I'm very happy with my Seagate Backup Plus Slim.

I'm not an IT buff. I bought this to replace an old hard drive I used for Time Machine backups. The hard drive said its Mac Compatible, but the set-up instructions 'to make it compatible with Mac' are extremely complicated. After plugging in the hard drive I was prompted to download and install software to make it compatible and was prompted to download and install the Seagate Dashboard. I tried to backup using Time Machine and the backup failed due to the drive not being in the correct format. After reading other Customer Reviews online I realised it's better to just ignore ALL the software the setup tells you to install and reformat on disk utility (I have done this before - easy to do just look at previous reviews or google).I uninstalled everything, reformatted the disk and the backup worked as expected. The set-up instructions are overly complicated and I could have saved about 30 mins if they had been clearer. Apart from that it's a good design and seems to be working okay. If it fails on me as I have seen in other reviews then I will update my review accordingly.

This is a superb portable piece of hardware for a terrific price. When I started in IT back in 1986, the hard drives in our mainframe computer room were 2.5Gb (although Gigabytes were rarely used then so we called them 2500Mb) and the size of a Vauxhall Zafira! Now you can have 2000Gb in something you could fit in your pocket. Connect it via USB3 and download films, music and documents in decent times. I now have over 200 films on it plus box sets and my entire music collection and videos from a well known site. This means on holiday in our mobile home we can plug this into the Smart TV on those occasional rainy days or quiet nights in and we've got some fantastic viewing. It will also come in handy for those nights away on business.IT also works plugged into the back of my Cloud/media server for an extra backup of those precious photos. It's a super little hard drive and I also bought a recommended case (from the Amazon associated recommendations) which is perfect for this and should help it survive the odd knock.I would buy this again, and indeed might well do soon.

I've bought three of these in different colours to help differentiate them (red, blue, black). They are connected to my MacMini to server as media storage pools and/or backup drives.I run a PLEX media server on my MacMini and was running short on storage for recorded TV shows using PlexDVR and music and movies. I now have one of these dedicated to storing DVR TV recordings (via HDHomeRun) and use another for storing my FLAC music library. It's great that they're USB powered so each drive doesn't need its own power supply. People always seem to underestimate how annoying a portable hard drive is when you need to carry a big power supply around with it, not a problem with these 2.5" USB powered units. They're chunkier (thicker) than other 1TB and 2TB drives I've got but I guess 5TB has a few more platters inside hence the extra thickness.I haven't run any speed tests on them, I've got USBC SSD drives for anything superfast but if you need cheap and reliable media storage these are great, no problems streaming 4k movies off them via plex.

This is a review of the Seagate 5 TB Backup Plus USB 3.0 Portable 2.5 Inch External Hard Drive. It is a small drive, about 2/3 the length of a mobile phone, same width, and twice as deep. Around twice the weight of a phone. The only connector on the drive is for a USB cable, which provides both data and power. A small, 30cm cable is provided. In use, it's a plug and play device. Instantly recognised by Windows 10 and available for use in a few seconds as you would expect. When in use, the small light on the drive will illuminate and pulse in brightness. After a period of non-use, the drive will go to sleep and the light will turn off. When next accessed, it will wake pretty speedily.I've seen other drives cause read errors when waking, this drive does not have that issue.Speeds seem fast. I've been using it on a USB 3.0 port and haven't noticed any speed issues, although I purely use this drive for storage and backup so am not constantly accessing files.Overall, no complaints with this drive. Lots of storage in a small package.

Small, lightweight, quiet drive, fully runs on USB power, fast and reliable. Perfect for backups, pleasant to use. Responds instantly when plugged into a USB 3 port on Windows 10.You can just plug in the drive and use Windows' backup software if you want.If you partition this drive with a 32GB FAT32 and the rest as NTFS you can create both a Windows recovery drive and image backup on the same disk.I made an effort to avoid the Seagate software, I could see it cluttering up Windows, starting itself up on its own, being a bit clunky etc. I've become really fussy about software recently, and without good management there is some really bad software being produced - no disrespect to Seagate,I never even tried it, just sticking to known quality without wishing to risk another half-baked attempt at someting that doesn't respect the users' computers on which they are gratiously allowed to be installed. I think hardware manufacturers should put all their software costs towards testing and quality control.

A very nice drive, works well with Windows PCs and Macs. With a Mac, you have two choices:(1) keep it formatted in Windows PC format (as supplied) and install the driver on your Mac (supplied on the disk). Then the Mac can read/write to the Windows PC formatted disk - clever. This is a good choice if you want to use the drive for both Windows PCs and Macs.(2) Reformat it to Mac format. Then you don't need any drivers to use it with a Mac - but you can't use it with a Windows PC. This is a good choice if you are sure you only want to use it with Macs.Since my family are now totally Mac, I went for option 2. The Seagate backup software that comes with the drive is nothing special,so I decided to use Backup Guru LE, which is free from the Mac App Store. I really like this - the drive works really well and is super-quiet, and Backup Guru LE is totally simple, foolproof and elegant. I highly recommend this Seagate drive to all users.

Now let's talk about the product itself, it is matte in black, aesthetically sober and pretty at once, it is discreet next to my ps4.At the level of the touch, it is pleasant to take in hand, small and light, I guess it must be adapted for those who would like to take it with them during their travelsThis external hard drive is very simple to install. Just connect it to the USB port of the PC with the supplied cable and the installation of the driver is done automatically. The speed of execution is quite satisfactory, fast enough for my taste. I download movies in HDlight format, then I connect this external hard drive to my BluRay player via USB and I have no problem reading the movie.Overall,a very good product for a very good price and, in addition, very well protected products arrive very quickly in France from the United Kingdom.I am very satisfied with my purchaseI really recommend it, thank you Amazon

I bought this Seagate 1TB Portable HDD in January and worked extensively with it. It has never yet failed on me and it provided an easy to use, easy to access way to my files. I've rendered videos using this drive and used it back and forth on Windows and Mac, it worked perfectly as it should. If there's a downside to this, it's probably the speed, it's not very fast - so if you want something to render videos, get an SSD, otherwise, if you want to simply back-up and store data, this is one of the best, easiest hard drives you can pick up.Overall, other than the read/write speed, I don't have much to complain about. The provided software will make it an ease to use it on both Windows/Mac/Linux operating systems. It's much recommended for anyone who need a little more space. It's also an excellent choice to simply just make a backup/copy of your current system in case you ever need to re-install everything.
