This is the second dog door I have bought this year and we are only in February! I used to have the Staywell 4 way locking flap and found this to be an excellent product but it was discontinued. Reviews of the 2 way Staywell flap seemed to be rather mixed and I was concerned that the flap would be strong enough based on these reviews so opted for the Staywell heavy duty aluminium in large size. This involved changing the bottom panel of my door because of the different apperture. The door was a disaster - it just blew open all the time letting a draught in and making the house very cold. I have now bought the Ferplast door and had to have yet another panel fitted to my door. The door was fitted by a handyman with a lot of experience in fitting cat/dog flaps so I cannot comment on that except to say that he made it look easy! The tunnel section needed to be trimmed down to fit the depth of my door panel. The door frame appears quite large, in comparison to the Staywell aluminium one, but looks quite smart in the white door. The door has a very positive close position, it is rather noisy as it closes and swings back and forth especially after the labrador has gone through. My concern from the appearance of this door is that it will not prove sturdy enough but only time will tell if this is well founded.I have 3 cats and a terrier as well as the labrador and they have absolutely no difficulty with this dog flap.I will repost at some stage to inform on whether it has been a successful purchase because I have had such a struggle to get any useful, informed advice about the subject of dogflaps ansd it has cost me a lot of money making uninformed purchases!Update 18/04/2012.I am really pleased with this flap - we have had all weather types now from high winds and driving rain to a really hot spell and this dog door has performed extremely well.It isn't quiet as it closes but it does close every time and most importantly stays closed!Update 28/10/2012 - dog flap has a break in the U frame. Currently still closes but I am not as confident that it will last.

This is a good solid, sturdy cat flap which my cats took to quickly. The controls are easy to operate, although I am just hoping that my little 'Houdini' doesn't work out how to turn the knob, as it turns easily and he is a clever lad who worked out how to open doors by pulling the handle down!I like the fact that it makes a noise when the cats use it, as it lets me know when one has come in or out - either one of mine or a non-resident on the scrounge!Added about 4 months later:Houdini has not been able to turn the knob, but the flap bit was broken this morning, presumably during an altercation between Houdini and a very aggressive new cat on the block.A top corner has been broken off.I have had to replace the flap with a spare one I had (another brand) for the time being. I saw that my builder had used sealant around the edges, and thought that he was just being extra-thorough, but he seems to have made a bit of a mess of putting the screws in, and maybe there was also a problem with the design as referred to by another reviewer, leading to a gap around the edges, hence the sealant?I'm hesitating over buying another one of these. My cat and his enemy are very strong, but I have decided to get another brand in the hope that the flaps themselves are less easily broken.

Over many years of keeping (?being kept by?) cats we found another cat in the kitchen. Although we chased it out it kept returning, and the final strw was finding it in the bedroom in the middle of the night. Our existing cat flap was a Ferplast one, which itself had been hard to find as it had to fit the previous cat flap which had disintegrated. Therefore as this was the same size (w x h) it was an automatic contender. The flap itself was easy to install - but make sure you 'register' your cats before doing so - it will prove almost impossible once in the door, although the collar supplied also works well. The only problems we have encountered are that the tunnel is slightly longer than on the previous one,so protrudes slightly from the door, and the little indicator device which shows which way the last user travelled (Out or In) sometimes sticks in the half way position. This appears to be something to do with the lip at the end of the tunnel, which wasn't on the original manual version. However, overall it does the trick. We have had no more visits from unwanted cats, nocturnal or otherwise!

I bought this as my little American Cocker spaniel Millie would stare longingly out of the cat flap (head stuck out). As she's reaching that certain age of 11 she can't always hold it in whilst I'm at work. We bought this thinking it was magnetic as we have a stray cat who thinks he owns the joint and he's always trying to get in all the time to spray his wonderful pee smelling perfume around the house. We've named him Dennis..... cos he's a menace. My husband dragged the door into the garage cut a bigger hole and easily fitted the new dog/cat flap. Put the door back on it's hinges and we both stared at each other thinking the other had the magnets for the collars. Then started thinking what cheapskates not giving us magnets, then the icy dread of realising that IT ISN'T MAGNETIC OMG WHAT ABOUT DENNIS. Too late and it's in now, non magnetic. However, it's obvious to us now that Dennis will not be a member of MENSA anytime soon as he still just stares through thinking he can't get in. Wonderful. Product is a bit noisy when Millie goes in and out, but she absolutely loves it, so that's fine by me.

This cat flap has worked without fault, allowing our two cats to pass in and out, whilst barring other (previously troublesome) neighbourhood cats. Our own cats are now much more relaxed. It is very helpful to 'register' your own cats with the cat flap BEFORE fitting it to the wall : we placed the cat flap on the carpet, placed some cat treats inside and our cats soon approached, in turn, to allow registration of their microchips. The instructions are not very detailed : whilst the instructions do explain that the 'control panel' must be fitted INSIDE the home (!), they aren't explicit that the attaching screws can only be screwed into this 'control panel' from the REAR. In our case,we were installing the cat flap in front of a tunnel through a cavity wall - so, for us, it was necessary to attach the cat flap to a wooden panel which we were then able to screw to the inside surface of our cavity wall. So, we did experience some minor challenges in installing the cat flap. But here's the 'bottom line' : it works great !

This cat flap is easy to install in a door and instantly reads our cat's 15 digit French microchip, letting her come inside as quickly as a normal cat flap. It was easy to record her microchip just by putting her near the door. Goodbye stray cats! However, be warned: the generic instructions enclosed suggest you need to cut the tunnel to fit the width of the door like most conventional cat flaps. DO NOT CUT this tunnel as you would end up cutting through the wires that wind around the inside of the tunnel and that read the microchip. (I cut it and had to buy a new cat flap - expensive mistake!!). The tunnel ends up sticking out from the door by about 10cm,but it needs to do this so that the cat stretches slightly to get through the tunnel and this ensures the door reads the cat's microchip quickly. Our cat took a little time to adjust to the new door, but worked it out within a day.

Overall happy. Paid almost £300 for a professional glazier to put this in our glass patio door. Fierce winds will cause the flap to blow open but it’s not a frequent issue. A bit worried about winter though! We have had the flap since March so I can’t say anything about freezing cold drafts (“draughts” (UK)). We are in Brighton UK where it gets windy. Our dog is six months old in the photos and video, I’m pretty sure it will accommodate her when full grown. It gives a loud SMACK noise when opening and closing. But given everything I said, it’s a great investment for HOUSETRAINING. We cut several weeks / months off of that process because she can come and go freely.Pro tip: have an old towel ready for little miss Muddy Paws!

Bought this one because it had the same screw hole spacing as my old, same make, one and would mean an easier fitting. It was a bit hard work sawing the tunnel part down to size as I am a female pensioner. Otherwise it was easy fitting though I had to use the old shorter screws as those supplied were too long and would have needed to have been cut down to correct length. They should have given two sets of screws to resolve this problem. I can't see much point in the draught protector which gets in the way when I have to tie the flap open (daft cat doesn't know how to use a cat flap and has no intention of learning). It looks nice and fits the door smoothly and appears fairly robust.

Great product and right size for my 2 Scottish Terriers which was a slight worry when ordering as one of my Scotties is a little on the 'large' side. Fitted by professional company into glass double glazed door which necessitated the fixed tunnel bring cut down. Would have been better if the tunnel wasn't fixed and could have been added if required. It is quite a noisy thing and dogs petrified of it, but fingers crossed with training they will begin to use it. Door stays closed in bad weather due to magnetic strips and again this was a worry as i wanted to avoid creating a draft by installing it.

We have unfortunately been through several dog flaps over the years. Our Jack Russell doesn't like to walk through the flap - she flies through at top speed! This results in the flap not lasting very long. This one seals much better than others we have had, and lets through a lot less air from outside. It certainly appears to be a much stronger build than previous ones as well. Can be a bit noisy as the dog flies through. Time will tell whether this one stands the test of time and our dog!Product update : It's now August 2012 and the flap is still going strong!

I'm so glad that I invested in this cat flap. My cat was being terrorised by another cat in the area and the cat flap has kept her safe. She is much happier and calmer now the other cat doesn't have access to the house. The method of registering the chip did not work for me and I had to push the cat through the flap to do this - absolutely not appreciated by the cat!!!! Hence four stars instead of five. However, the experience did not put her off and she uses the flap as if it has always been there.

We bought this to replace an identical model that had done many years service.Replacing the old one was very easy - the only problem was the the new screws were 10mm shorted than the old ones and I had to reuse the old ones. They have added an extra flap, probably as a draft excluder. This extra flap gives a loud clack clack when the flap swings. Neither dog would use it for this reason - so I levered it off.So now it is as good as the old one, and the dogs happily dive in and put.

Fantastic super large dog flap. This one replaced the same model which had served us well for 6 years before our dog ran into it full tilt carrying a yard broom and pulled the entire thing out of the wall! Still dont know how he managed to get partially through and come in wearing the entire thing but in removing it from him we broke the inner flap, so we decided a new one might be prudent. Well made, still in one piece after all that punishment so we would not have anything else.

it does the job and comes with all the bits you need inc the tunnel. easy to put together if the instructions are a bit confusing its common sense anyway cutting the hole in the door and putting it in. sturdy. not very good for an external door though the lock is on one side and the screws holding it together to the door on the other so for external door theyd be on the outside. guess a burglar couldnt get through unless he was tiny but its not very good piece of mind that.

Unlike other catflaps purchased locally, the Ferflast Wing 7 actually lasts a lot longer, as I replaced the first one bought 8 years later. The flap system really resists to gales and other storm force winds and the one I installed in the kitchen faces the prevailing winds from the North Atlantic - SW, W, NW. Living in Shetland demands tough gear and this one is "Shetland proof". Since I discovered this product, I will never again buy any other fro any other brands.
