The expectations I had for this title were huge, and when the posty dropped off the game today I tore at the plastic with more hope of a great gaming experience then I had for a long time. Breaking this down to what I wanted from F1-2010 is harder to describe. So I made this list prior to starting the game, so I would know if it delivered on all these expectations...1) Excitement - fun and a rush when you drive in a race2) Atmosphere - I'll never experience being an F1 star, so this should get me as close as possible to the good parts of being one3) Satisfaction - when you win a race or do well for the team to have earned it, not just handed a winwhich leads me to the technical expectations that should positively underpin the game:a)No glitches that destroy the mood, no frozen screensb) Great physics simulations (no sticking tires to barriers, no impossible car hops, jumps,...)c) Outstanding AI - no slow down if I am too slow, no weird impossible reaction time, I should be able to watch one of these events only with AI drivers and think it is a decent race.d) Deformable objects - I am no fan of F1 crashes - too dangerous, but a game is a game and I don't want to see toy car racing in a simulatione) weather - I want different weather conditions to effect the car handling a lotThere is a lot more, but before it gets too boring here is how it went for me:Set-up was slow and seem to hang on my quadcore, 2GB, G25 Logitech steering wheel equipped PC taking a good 7 minutes (and yes, it has that annoying key on the booklet you will end up loosing). Next I had to upgrade the G25 drivers without which the steering wheel was not detected.Experience:First nice touch is that you are interviewed to configure your personality and difficulty level. This and your commitment to 3,5 or 7 seasons shows that the game is aimed at longevity. A long season starts you in a lower team. I chose a medium level and started the career (You even get a manager).I must say after a few laps I was pretty disappointed with the game. The steering was light, the crashing into walls was pathetic in terms of degree and spectacle and I started to get that sinking feeling you get when you expected something spectacular and get a bit of a clown.I then spend a bit of time setting things up more to my liking. Increased difficulty, heavy steering (that was so important!), and creating my own set-up. After 2 hours I had qualified the Lotus in 11th place and after another couple of hours I had finished 4th. Now many of you will beat this, as I am a rubbish driver, but the game delivered. Any mistake I made in this mode was punished (although not as harshly as in qualifying). 1-3 delivers in this game and although the interviewing is still weak (I mean a rookie in a lotus finishing 4th should bring more than 1 report and 1 camera man into the interview group), and all the questions are rather generic) but the whole thing delivers as a package a great new step forward into F1.a) No glitches,b) decent enough physicsc) Good enough AId) Rubbish deformation/crashes - sorry.e) Brilliant weather effectsF1GP3 it isn't, but it is the right start and we waited so long for something decent. This is a great effort and although the Dirt2 engine just isn't good enough for F1, it will keep me hooked until 2011 at least (I should get 7 seasons into 1 year). I think you have to be a fan of F1, and of racing games to get this title, but a lot of expectation was resting on this, and considering that, Codemasters did well. Pity about the Windows Live link-up, but you can't have everything. Maybe we can get a crash physics fix?

Somewhere in here there's a fantastic F1 game; however it's obscured by a few problems.First, it is very demanding. You have to absolutely concentrate every single millisecond you're playing; take your eye off for half a second, or misjudge a corner ever so slightly, and you end up spinning off and wrecking all your progress. This is not a game for casual racing fans: you have to be in love with racing to be able to put in as much concentration as this game demands. You have to learn every corner of every track perfectly in order to win, and you have to get them right every single time with no room for error at all. This doesn't necessarily make it less fun; it just makes it extremely frustrating when your dog starts barking, causing you to go flying into a wall or crash into the back of another driverSecond, it's simply too difficult to begin with. You won't get near pole position, you won't get near the top ten, you'll be lucky to achieve the goals set by your team straight away; after about 8 hours' play I'm still struggling to get within 5 seconds in qualification. You can change the difficulty of the AI, which certainly helps, and once you move to another team than the weaker ones you'll find it easier, but you still have to constantly concentrateThird, it's a poor port. The mouse isn't programmed in, the keyboard is the only controller, and everything is clearly set up for xBox and PS3. This is fine during racing, but the menus are a bit clunky and poorly programmed.Fourth, it needs a patch before it's playable. You can download the patch by Googling 'codemasters f1 2010 patch' or something, but do this before you start because trust me, it's incomplete in the form you're buying it. For example, you'll pit during a lap, and the lollipop bloke will keep you there for about 20 seconds until he'll release you; you just have to sit there and watch your hard work slip away as car after car after car flies past you. Also, the strategies are fixed in the patch: I was disqualified in Melbourne for not using Prime and Option tires, even though I pitted twice. A third example: none of your competitors will pit in some races, which is just stupid. Trust me, get the patch. Shame on Codemasters for releasing an unfinished game; but at least this can be fixed. So these are the problems: what are the positives?First, it costs £3.Second, it looks brilliant; the tracks are rendered superbly, and little touches such as rubber flying up off the track or fans holding your country's flag are nice.Third, it's a seriously good racing game. It perhaps takes things a bit too seriously, and it isn't a huge amount of fun, but it's very satisfying and it's quite rewarding for its demand. But if you're serious about your racing, this is as a good game to get as any.--------To conclude:If you stick with it, and are willing to learn the tracks and the game inside out, this is a great game. If you want a casual racer you can pick up and start winning instantly, or a fun game to play with friends, look elsewhere.

My system spec.AMD Phenom 9650 Quad-Core 2.3 ghzATi Radeon HD4870 1GB3GB DDR2 Ram23" Samsung Syncmaster 2333HD MonitorThrustmaster Ferrari GT Experience WheelWith my system spec I am able to run the game with 1920x1080 resolution, 4x MSAA and all other display settings on high. With these settings I haven't experienced any noticeable frame-rate drops or lagging at all. My experiences so far have been primarily within the career mode (expert difficulty, 50% races).Having played rFactor and F1 Challenge 99-02 in the past, F1 2010 was always a must-buy and it is easily the best racing game I have ever played. These are just some of the positive aspects of the game, and it certainly isn't an exhaustive list.- The graphics are fantastic at the above resolution and the visual experience enhanced during wet races in particular.- The handling is challenging enough to be rewarding when you post a fast time or string a series of laps together during a race.- On expert difficulty the AI is genuinely difficult to beat, to the extent where finishing 18th in a Lotus can sometimes feel like a victory.- The small details, such as the ability to adjust wing angles and engine settings during the race makes the game seem that bit more realistic.- The career mode, whilst not perfect, seems to give the game longevity offline. The possibility to rise through the ranks from a team such as Lotus to one capable of challenging for and winning world championships is exciting, particularly when any respectable result in a lower team seems like such an achievement early on.- The game is more immersive than any other racing game I've played. The changing weather conditions, strategy calls, tricky AI and generally realistic race results all adds to the enjoyment of the game. There are some areas that could be improved- Lack of safety car- Penalty system sometimes over picky- Questionable AI in wet weather. I was able to qualify 10th in the wet in a Lotus at China.- Frequency of punctures (although I am experiencing these less often as I become smoother and less prone to off-track excursions!)- Lack of podium celebration- Replay system not brilliantAppreciating that this is the first current gen F1 game (after F1 2009 on the Wii) codemasters has developed, the positive aspects of the game far outweigh any negatives and after 3 or 4 days of playing, I haven't experienced anything other than enjoyment.I would recommend it to anyone with any interest in Formula One, and if my experience so far is anything to go by, you really won't be disappointed.

This is a game that I have been waiting for for along time.Keeping an eye on it from the start, watching the developmentdiaries and previews.I am a big driving game nut who enjoys a challenge and Ivereally enjoyed racing sims, Rfactor, GT Legends and GTR Evo onthe PC along with your usual console racers.I bought the PC version of F1 2010 due to having a decentgraphics card and setup with a Logitech FX wheel and pedalsYou really do need a wheel for any driving sim its adds somuch more immersion. The other advantage with buying the PC version is that thegraphics can be tweaked as much as you want and that the likelyhood of mods being made available for it as time goes bypolishing the look of the game even more. The only downside is that the game,as other comments andreviews have made, feels unfinished and a patch would make ahuge difference. The list of bugs and issues are listed innearly every review so I wont list them. The first time I played the game I found it really frustratingand difficult and didn't really enjoy it. After having a look onvarious forums and sites I discovered that its worth whiletweaking the controls for the wheel and the difficulty settingsto suit. I liked the settings set at hard so the fantastic AIwould be a challenge but the car would handle as I wanted. After I had done this and a couple of laps into the game thegame started to open up and became more enjoyable as I had abetter feel for the car and the tracks. Once you have conqueredthe the corners that spin you out and get back onto the racingline you do get a sense of achievement and want to do more andmore laps taking on the next car in front. You will be disappointed at first but when you get everythingsetup correctly and to how you want the game to feel it reallywill make you want to take on more laps and not retire the gameto the pits.______________________________________________________________UPDATE - I have been playing this game now for the past week andI cant put it down, especially after I have configured my wheelfor a more immersing, sim like game. The setup is as follows:Steering Deadzone - 0%Steering Saturation - 75%Steering Linerarity - 70%Throttle Deadzone - 0%Throttle Saturation - 100%Brake Deadzone - 0%Brake Saturation - 100%-----Forcefeedback settings - set all at 100%ENJOY!

I must admit that I had been eagerly awaiting this game since the announcement that Codemasters had acquired the rights to produce the official F1 game. Being a fan of the TOCA and Race Driver series, I was always expecting a fantastic game.Thankfully Codemasters have not disappointed here, providing a simulation so detailed and immersive, I would strongly advise not driving your own car after playing, expecting the same level of grip on the road as you get in the game! The level of detail on the circuits themselves is breathtaking and the cars are also stunningly accurate even at a distance (although the damage model is a bit lacklustre, more on that later).Although extras added onto the game, such as the paddock experience and interviews could have been improved and fleshed out beyond their token appearance, they still serve to add to the immersion this game provides. The installation of the game and usage of steam do not detract from the experience and I can run this game on max graphics settings on my 18 month old Dell XPS 420 (Running Windows 7). My advice to anyone who has problems would be "get a better computer!"This game is not without its faults but it will be plain to see how these can be patched (except for an overly simplistic damage model but this is balanced by receiving penalties for hitting other drivers, which prevents you using opponent AI as your brakes). The audio feed from the "Engineer" has some issues, like constantly telling me the driver in front is 5 seconds ahead (regardless of how far ahead he actually is!) and only informing me what the leaders pit strategies are and not those around me. Occasionally you will get an unfair penalty for "causing a collision" when in fact all you've done is braked a little early on worn tyres and the driver behind you has careered into your rear wing but this is not common. However these are minor gripes and do not detract a great deal from the game. Overall, although not perfect, this game has no competition in its field and as such excels to provide (as the box claims) F1 for all. Heres hoping Codemasters learn from the glitches and deliver an even more impressive F1 2011

I bought this on release from Steam, sorry Amazon but the PC release was pulled at launch otherwise I would have bought it from you.Anyway, I think this is a great racer. I have played it for 2 weeks now and just think it is great and very addictive. The tracks are spot on, I have been playing the relevant tracks on the game before watching the real thing on TV and it's just amazing how accurate they are.I have been playing with a couple of mates online, which is very enjoyable and very competetive. The online mode works very well and is very stable, i've not been booted out of any sessions or seen anything that i would call a bug in MP mode.In single player mode, there are some bugs though, although so far it hasnt ruined my enjoyment. But I will look forward to a patch. I know a lot of people are complaining that it needed another 6 months, but le't face it, they are working with a licensed product and have to release it within a particular time frame. It is lso their first attempt at an F1 game and since this is going to be ongoing game every year, it will improve.Overall 4 out of 5, purely because of a few bugs. Once the bugs are fixed there is nothing there for me to knock a point off for and will be worthy of a full 5 out of 5.BTW, I run this on a moster system, Xeon E5530 @ 4.2GHz, 12GB DDR3 @ 2100MHz, 120gb SSD, GTX480 and using a philips 47" 1080p ambilight. With all setting maxed out at 1080p it runs at a solid 60fps and never moves, even when there are 24 cars on the track and dynamic weather and all sorts going on. If you are contemplating PC version or console version and you have a decent PC then get PC all the way. I have tried this on console and it's not a patch compared to the smoothness and sharpness of PC version.Another note is support of a wheel seems to be a worthy consideration. Me and a friend raced both on xbox 360 pads and were pretty equal. My friend then recently bought the Logitech G27 racing wheel and he is better for it, I cannot beat him now. It seems as though a good wheel just gives you that extra bit of precision vs pad.. I will buy a wheel at end of month.

First of all it does work on laptops!!! And extremely well too. If you've got a good machine then there should be no problem. The career idea was a good one--3,5 or 7 seasons are the options which is a very good idea. You can also customise how hard the game you want it to be.In terms of the driving and game play it is very very good. The weather system is brilliant as are the graphics. The tracks are all very realistic. You get constant talk from your race engineer and it is very easy to change the cars settings for your own needs. You can also get upgrades which is cool, as is the idea of having an agent. However, there are some points which I wish Codemasters had worked on.In order for it to be very realistic there has to be more hype on race days--maybe a bit of TV commentry would be good to build the scene up.Also, when you have installed the game you have to sign up to an online account thingy; if you don't you cannot save the game. This is a CRAP idea. I don't give a toss about online play, and there are probably many others who feel the same so why do you have to sign in? Usually I wouldn't mind as long as it didn't take too long, but it took me over 30mins because it didn't explain what to do properly (although I am no IT whizz!).Overall a very good first try from Codemasters, although there are a few things to work on. The graphics and ingame play should be kept as they are, but a more realistic racing weekend would be good (tv commentry, people surrounding the cars before the race etc).Buy it if you like F1, but the price I think is a bit high at the moment (£30).

I have to say that codemasters have done an excellent job with this game. There is so much attention to detail and it creates a great impact on the gamer. The game contains some seriously breathtaking graphics. This mainly due to the dynamic weather forecasting. The weather can change during a race and ranges from glorious clear skies to dismal, heavy rain. This adds to games realism. The game also tries hard to imitate the life of a real formula 1 driver by having interviews after each race and the garage allows the driver to customise certain factors that influence the race such as the type of tires and if you are a pro, you can even go into detail such as altering things like down-force and suspension. However although these all sound pretty good there are some issues with the game. I think that the rules in the game are a bit strict for beginners as you will have to run a perfect lap to qualify for a good place in the race. The invalidate the lap even if you cut the corner even by the slightest margin and in the race if you just scrape another car, you get a massive time penalty which will put you near last place in the race. This was quite disappointing as I thought the game would be made for all formula 1 fans including those who have not had much experience with racing games before. Overall, I think this game is very good and would recommend it to all who have an interest in formula 1 racing but I warn you that it can become frustrating if you haven't had some practice beforehand.

I've seen comments that this game isn't playable on laptops. Not true! I have a Dell Studio laptop and it works perfectly on mine. Of course your laptop must meet the minimum hardware requirements of the game, ie processor, graphics card and memory. But there was one problem I had. After installation I went to start the game and got an error message from windows saying a .dll file was missing -- D3dcompiler_42.dll. If you get this error, simply go to Microsoft's website and download the latest version of DirectX. I did that and the game worked no problem. Now about the game: it's brilliant. If you're a keen F1 fan and fan of racing simulators, then you'll know it's the best around. My online gripe would be that since this game is tied in with Microsoft's Games for Windows - LIVE you must sign in for an online account in order to create a profile in the game, save race progress and so on. If you don't, then every time you start the game you go through the process of starting from scratch which would be highly annoying. That said, registering with LIVE doesn't take long but just know that it's absolutely necessary to get the most out of this game.

graphically, absolutly stunning, the rain effect are the best ive ever seen, and the handling goes how it should. little things like the track been dificult at a start of a weekend but gets faster and more grippy by the end, really make it stand out from the rest, the ai make mistakes they block moves, and do a damn good job of overtaking they wont try it anywhere theyll wait till they get to to an "overtaking place" like in the real world. career mode is great, bing able to choose between 3,5 or 7 years is something thats been missing, previously you did 5 years or none! the press conferences are another feature that has been missing, slate the team and teammate and another team will start sniffing around hopingto poach you for the next season.if your not in the top 3, david croft will be waiting in the paddock for you.you also have the chance to develop the car, and if your the number 1 driver, choose which way you want it to be developed. overall it a game that'l keep you going for hours, the die-hard f1 fans will love it, newcomers will love it, everyone will love it! roll on f1 2011!!!!

Undeniably the game has many bugs. However, Codemasters does seem to be listening and promising a fix for the more prominent ones and hopefully fixing the rest later. That said, the game is immensley enjoyable with great graphics and weather. I was playing on an Xbox Slim 250GB using the Xbox controller and was not enjoying it atall - the controller is so inaccurate. I looked about for a steering wheel but could find none which were affordable or worth buying! I decided to go for the PC version at £30 via Steam - not prepared to pay the nonsense prices asked here and elsewhere. I bought a Thrustmaster Ferrari GT steering wheel from Amazon for £28. And now I am having lots of fun with cars that steer much much better. The steering wheel and pedals are surprisingly good fro the loot. This is a game that will last years. I hope codemasters sticks at it with improvements and updates. For instance, they did suggest that the game could be linked live to an F1 race so you could race along with the drivers. That sounds like fun. Whatever, it's still good fun anyway.

I have seen a lot of negative reviews of this game which I don't feel are justified or fair.I've been playing driving games on my PC for more years than I care to remember and had been looking forward to F1 2010 for quite some time. Well, I'm not disappointed at all. Granted, at first on the default settings it does feels too much like an arcade game but with some careful tweaking it changes to a different animal. For me, it offers a really good balance between out-and-out simulation and ordinary driving game. Setting a decent lap time will take practice and not a little skill but on the other hand you don't need to spend hours tweaking the car settings in search of the perfect setup.Driving a race on full distance requires massive concentration with the driving assists mainly turned off and it is a real achievement just to get to the end of race.My PC is fairly old these days (although it does have a half decent graphics card) but this software runs smoothly and the visuals are stunning.

For the benefit of those on the edge. It runs on my laptop. ACER 6935G Intel core 2 duo 2.0ghz, Nvidia 9600M GT graphics, 4GB of ram. But bare in mind you have to run on low of very low to get good framerates. It plays on medium and high but you get some lag. There is a known issue with the acer gemstones range laptops too where the cpu is programmed to 'throttle back' performance when it reaches 50c which isnt that hot for a lappy. If you run a programe called Throttle Stop, it will stop this and the game runs ok. Google it.Good luck running the game, if you are an F1 fan you will love it. I have been playing Rfactor and GTR/Race on for years and this is just as challenging with all aids off.Graphics are good even on low setting and the rain effect is still amazing. The game is really immersive and the handling/physics are stable even with a 360 wired game pad which is what I use. I have a wheel also but that is for the xbox 360.

first, and straight to the point, THIS GAME DOES WORK ON LAPTOPS!i have 3 friends, all with laptops of various ages and value, and the game works, on full spec fine, it isnt even that graphic intensive, and will run on high settings on most machines.I will keep this short and sweet, the game is the best f1 experience on any console or system to date.It offers everything you would want from a true f1 experince, and the dynamic weather system is immense, the graphics are fantastic. The game does have in my view a step learning curve, as the handling and timing for braking at corners etc will take some gettin used to, which I have found, I am playing on medium at the moment. It will reward practice, online is awesome, the career mode is good too, although maybe a little limited, but it does the job.Great addictive game you will want to keep playing

This game is well worth the price. It was actually only available on PC-DVD for a limited time (pre-orders) and now you'll probably have to buy this game as an online download if you're looking to buy for PC.The in-game graphics are very much like GRID, and some of the F1 tracks are very detailed at points (and I noticed a tiny bit of slowdown of the framerate on quite a high spec PC with many cars on a detailed part of the track, with lots of models). It's a lot of fun, although you have to appreciate F1 (or be a fan) to fully enjoy, as a lot of the time the cornering (angle, speed, speed out) is very important.Performance is good (graphics/overall). I use with a logitech USB wheel (Wingman Force Feedback GP)- fine except for a bit of force feedback in the wheel when idling (which I corrected by turning on the centre spring).
