Konami are trying, I'll give them that. The company acknowledged that 2008/09 were both sub-par for the series and attempted to rectify some of their past mistakes. I'll try to mention Fifa as little as possible in this review, as its PC version is so poor that it doesn't merit consideration.Good:The game has an immediacy of control that is lacking in other football games. The players feel solid and responsive to button presses. The ball physics are weighty and crisp. The passing may not have the subtle nuances that a more sophisticated system can produce, but it is compelling in its snappiness.Player likenesses are unmatched. For some reason, they just have a great deal of character.Whether this is via the animation styles or simply the accuracy of the stats they are given, I don't know. What I do know is that it is easy to tell who a player is by his movement. Players do not become "units" when viewed from a long camera angle. The Master League is the most compelling and damnably addictive singleplayer experience around. Want a league with the top clubs from all around the world? Easy. You can transform a team of unknowns (in this edition, I think the lucky club will be Aberdeen!) with first touches like rubber jackhammers and shooting accuracy worthy of the stormtrooper academy into a squad of cultured football aesthetes via the RPG-like player development and canny transfers. Granted, it isn't realistic, but there isn't a football campaign with more depth and fun. There are some interesting additions to the Master League this year: real money, youth academies, board expectations, sponsorship, coaching. These all have an impact on the way the league is played, though the core of the experience remains familiar.Mediocre things about PES:Licensing - this is in the mediocre section because community made option files will be released in coming months to correctly label every player and team within the game. It will be a non-issue by January, I expect. Still, the game comes largely unlicensed as it ships, and this may upset some people.Konami added a lot of licensed music that I either dislike or am apathetic towards. I judge this to be a matter of taste, so this point is entirely subjective.Bad:It remains obvious that the game is built on an animation engine created before the Iraq War began. Konami always promise to deliver an all new engine, and again they fail. The "next gen" consoles are no longer cutting edge tech, yet PES doesn't exploit their horsepower. Gorgeous textures will never hide the crudeness of the player movements. It is even worse when one considers how much faster a decent PC is than the consoles. The commentary is the same.Goalkeeper AI is still an outrage.System requirements and my PC:It runs at a good clip on my old, but still serviceable PC:4200 AM2 X2 @ 2.8ghz2gb RAMHD4850 with 512 RAMWindows XPI had an opportunity to try the demo on a PC with integrated graphics and it still ran smoothly, so the final version should run fine on systems with integrated graphics like the 780G mobos.Overall: This is the football game to get if you are a PC gamer. The story might be different on consoles, but I can't comment on that. This is a solid offering from Konami, much improved from the previous version, yet it isn't the return of the King, not quite yet.

I can't comment on how PES 2010 compares to 2008 or 2009 because the last football game I bought was PES6, but it is certainly an advance over PES6 (and the demo that Konami released last month, which suffered from most of the same glitches). First of all, the difficulty settings are more balanced. In earlier PES games I always found there to be a massive gap between Amateur and Regular (2 and 3 stars), with teleporting defenders being a regular issue at 3-5 stars, but in PES 2010 the increase in difficulty is pretty uniform between the categories. On the other hand, the higher difficulties are easier than their earlier PES counterparts- so maybe the more "seasoned" PES players may find matches against the computer too easy. The graphics are vastly improved, and the presentation is also much better, if not quite up to FIFA levels. There is also a better sense of being in control than in earlier PES games. Gone are the teleporting defenders and the magical barriers that used to surround the goalkeeper and throw-in takers. The range of football moves has increased, and the greater control over penalties is a very welcome step- in earlier PES games it was near-impossible to miss a penalty, whereas here, you need to show some element of skill to execute a penalty effectively. Crowd noises are realistic, if a little muted. The edit mode is more user-friendly than in PES6 and also includes the option to import player faces and emblems from your hard drive. There is also a wider range of tactical options that players can explore in tailoring teams to their needs. The main downsides, preventing the product from getting 5 stars, are the poor commentary (nowhere near as good as the FIFA commentary) and the fact that the product doesn't contain many official licenses (and therefore real team names, kits and badges) out of the box. But in a couple of months' time there will no doubt be plenty of fan releases to address the latter problem. Regarding DRM, PES 2010 requires Games for Windows to play online, but no online activation is required to install or to play offline, so nothing unreasonable there. The only potential problem is the usual DVD copy protection which might cause issues on some PCs.Many reviewers say FIFA Soccer 10 is the best football game on the market- and on the XBox and Playstation that may well be true. But not on PC.EDIT: After two months of owning the game, I found that while the Community Mode has some improvements over the "Konami Cup" of earlier incarnations of PES, it also removes the customisability regarding players vs CPU control:* In previous versions, when a user team was pitted against a CPU team, it allowed a second player to play as the CPU team. PES 2010 does not.* In previous versions, it was possible for a player to play as multiple teams and when they were pitted against each other, you could play as one team and have the CPU play as the other. PES 2010 doesn't let you do this, demanding that you must have 2 controllers (and they must be gamepad controllers- it doesn't let you use the keyboard as a second controller). If this is an issue for you (as it was for me) then it may be worth skipping this version of PES, though I still think the product overall is still worth four stars.

Firsty this is the best looking PES on PS2 ever. They have improved the faces of players a lot, something i thought they wouldnt bother doing, but they have. The large majority of players look a lot better and more realistic. On the downside of the graphics, the game does not have Progressive scan/480p support still or widescreen mode. These are thing i believe ALL PS2 games should have now. Do the developers of games still think we only play on old fat 4:3 SD Tvs?The squads are not upto date as they should be, especially coming out several weeks after the other version. Shevchenko still at Chelsea, Robben at Madrid and Heitinga at A. Madrid, etc. Obviously you can edit yourself,or buy an update memory card of ebay like i will do from one of those boffins who loves to edit the game to perfection for us simple folk. The modes of play are: Training, Champions League, Become a Legend, Master League, League, Cup, Single Match, Selection Match and Community. Obviously there is Edit aswell, and Gallery and System Settings. Master League hasn't undergone the change of the next gen versions, It is basically the same just with Champs League in it now. Growth curves are still visible for all players in this version, unlike next gen which is a bonus still. Not sure wether you could on last years on PS2 but on Become a Legend you can choose wether you want to be Early Peak, Standard Peak or Late Peak player which is better than next gen too. You can still improve Weak Foot Freq and form ect on PS2 version too, which you cant on Ps3! Ridiculous!Edit mode is still brilliant. PES Shop is still there too, nothing new added though really. How does it play though you ask? Just as great as ever on PS2. It still seems to play better than next gen versions. You still can't dive and the new small bits of skill havent been added, and player still have stars next to skills they have instead of 'star player cards', but this is better anyway. They have added little new cut scenes when a player gets injured i noticed. I injured some guy, and then it showed him holding his leg and looking like a cripple for a few seconds as he tried to walk . A nice touch. Its still a quick paced game and fluid to play. Players still run better than next gen version, and kick the ball more realistically than next gen versions too.Im not saying it is better than the PS3 version or anything. It just feels like a different game now. The way this game plays will be remembered as the classic PES gameplay when PES ruled, whereas the PS3 one is trying to become something new. Obviously next gen graphics look better, and next gen has online. This game does not have online, despite in Master League it tells you when you load saved data for Network Play you cant use edit players. Yes it tells you this, but you cant actually play online......lazy programming. All in all its a great game. Half the price i paid for PS3 version and its still a great game. When i get myself an update for all kits and teams, i imagine i will be playing this for a VERY long time as i dont imagine a new one will be out on Ps2 next year. At least it goes out on a high note of sorts on PS2!

This is the third instalment of the PES series on WII, I have had the previous 2 (PES 2008 & 2009), both very enjoyable. As with my last review of PES 09, I had never been a fan of football on consoles, preferred the real thing but now I cannot get enough. Pre-ordered my copy of PES 2010 via Amazon as you do, got it on the day, nice and cheap too, certainly cheaper than I bought 08 & 09. Last Sunday I played for a whooping 12 hours, finished the whole master league, was going to start playing the next season when I decided I didn't like the way it turned out and started the whole thing again. Anyways back to the review, am not going to go over what other reviewer have said, its a great game yadda yadda yadda. The controls are great, the AI is much better especially the defending, massive improvement on PES 2008 but I cannot really tell the different between 09 and 2010 except for the automatic defending thing where it highlights you defender so you can see who is going to mark the opponent while on attack, of course you can switch that off. The master league is so addictive, I have restarted it twice because I got way ahead of myself but now I have settled and finally enjoying it. I haven't really played any of the other modes, the only thing missing if the whole sponsorship thing, improving stadium and maybe newspaper article on how the manager and club is doing, a bit like FIFA does in their manager mode. I would like that added, so if anyone from Konami reads this, add that for next year OK or else!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Another thing is that I had to change all the Premier League team names to the correct names, didn't take long, but what you can do is import the names from PES 09, it actually has that option so look for that before you start renaming that teams unlike me, however as there are 3 new teams, am not sure what would have happened. The best thing about this is also that when my beloved Arsenal are loosing to Chelsea as they just did(3-0) I just switch on the WII and beat them 3-0 with Arsenal, it makes me feel a tiny bit better (I know so sad right).I have yet to play someone online, I guess no one is as sad as me and spends so long on it. Have been trying to set up the online tournament which you can do by exchanging friend codes etc with other PES 2010 owner but nothing has happened on that yet, but am sure I will find out what its like playing online soon.Yes I do have a Woman, yes I do have a full time job and no I don't have any Children, I just play over the weekend. Simples! If anyone is interested, my Friend Code is 5414-0148-3126. Come and challenge me if you dear! Now stop reading this, go and buy it and start playing!

UPDATE : I have changed the game from my original 5 star review to 4 after spending a few weeks on it. I Still highly recommend this game though. The reason for the change is mostly for the online aspect as I am getting really infuriated when people quit during matches while they are losing without any penalty (they should have a loss on their online record for this - it would stop the majority of them). My online record currently stands at something like played 34 won 24, lost 7 drawn 3. Doesnt look great but it should read something like 60+wins (seriously, thats how many people Ive had quitting on me!). SORT IT OUT KONAMI! Also, I kinda miss the 2 tier master league where you had to get promoted as you start off in the top division straight away. The difficulty needs to be raised because even at its hardest difficulty it gets too easy.ORIGINAL REVIEWIf you are looking at buying this game you will probably already know what it is all about. It is without a doubt the best footy experience available on the wii (in my opinion it offers far more control than the 360/PS3 versions over your players (with wiimote/nunchuk) and in theory you can control all 11 players at once!). You use the wiimote by pointing it at the screen and dragging your players around. You can make runs for yourself by moving players into open spaces etc. There is also the option to play with just the wiimote if you want, or the classic controller but it isn't the same and offers less control over what you can do.I would say this game is more for gamers than the casual folk (although they can still have some fun). Saying this as my friends find it difficult getting used to the controls, but it does get easier with practice, or it could just be that I'm too good and they don't like losing! (",)I've not managed to find anyone to play online against yet, although it is still early days. It seems exactly the same as the 2009 version though and with no new online options. Online play is not the wiis strongest point, although that is Nintendos fault rather than Konamis (the games developer/publisher). It would have been nice to have some kind of option to talk to your friends online and have a proper online leaderboard.I had the previous 2008/9 versions and the control and graphics have been tweaked a bit more for the better. and overall I would highly recommend this if you are prepared to put in the time and effort to get used to the controls

I am very impressed with this product. The whole game feels like a labour of love by its producers. Okay so it was slightly held back by licensing compared to FIFA but in my opinion the base game is a much more realistic experience, and the graphics are better - especially the pitch compared to that horrible fluro green grass from fifa 2010 pc!Anyways plenty of downloads are available across the web if your fav team isn't represented. Last night I played an exhibition match (vs. ai) England v Nigeria which ended 1-1. The whole thing played out beautifully and very realistically too. The pitch was waterlogged and you could see the splashes coming up from the turf when the ball landed or a player ran fast or slid on it.The animations are first class and yes Rooney threw a wobbly when he got yellow carded (my fault of course!). The sounds are great too - like the ball hitting the hoardings behind the goal or hitting the woodwork. The commentary worked for me and did seem directly relevant to events in my game.During that match goal chances were limited, so it certainly didn't turn into the easy goal fest I half feared and expected; Walcott broke through on a dribbling run but shot over, Rooney shot low and hard from the edge of the box but the keeper parried to his left - the ball skidding out of his grasp but he recovered well and beat Walcott to the ball. That was about it for England! Nigeria came close a couple of times too, their goal came from a defensive muddle in the England defence (realistic!) James saving the first shot but helpless with the follow-up.Best of all were the replays from every conceivable camera angle just like on Tv. The players are amazing likenesses of themselves too. All in all highly recomended to anyone with the remotest interest in the beautiful game.

I came to this game owning PES08 on the Wii and having bought (and returned) FIFA10. I wrote a review on FIFA10, so you can go see what I thought of that if you want to compare. The main standout for PES on the Wii has always been its gameplay. Yes it lacks in graphic detail compared to the Xbox and PS3, but what is and has been truly unique is the way in which you play the game. By using the Wiimote and nunchuck you can control and move multiple players at one time creating more complex moves than possible on any other console. For me this is the true football sim.The AI of the players has greatly improved, particularly that of the defenders. There has also been a great addition of a fatigue system,so players get tireder the longer the hold on to the ball, which works independently of their overall match stamina. This has brough a new sense of realism to the game and encourages you to play a more expansive passing style of football. The depth of game modes has also increase greatly from PES08 (although I think many of these were brought in for PES09). The inclusion of the Champs Lge makes a very welcome appearance both in the Master League and the Champions Road set-up.Graphics, soundtrack and commentary have all been tweaked giving that much richer an experience. The only problem I have found is that occasionally, I am noticing some 'wobble' or 'blur' in the lower half of the screen as if the system can't keep up with refreshing the screen quick enough. I'm using a component cable and all my settings seem fine and I've never experienced anything like this in any other game. All in all though, this really is how the beautiful game should be played!

never played PES before on any format. in fact the last footie game I played was iss pro on the n64 or fifa98 I think so it's been a while.but I got given a wii, I like football so I thought I'd give this game a go.got this as it would appear that fifa10 is rubbs on the wii and this was supposed to be great (that's what I gathered from reading the reviews on amazon anyway).first day I got it I found it infuriating as my housemate beat me 3 times (I'm a bad loser). I couldn't get to grips with it at all and also found it stupid that only some teams had the right names and stadiums but all the players were there. I got over that when I saw you can edit them (which I'm doing slowly but its a bit silly - fifa obviously are trying to rain on pes'parade)anyway next day he was out.I did the training.now I'm starting to get to understand the controls and I think its awesome.still got lots more to learn but there is something satisfying about controlling the whole team, doing dummy runs or great runs off the ball to beat the offside trap instead of just hitting a thru ball button on your joypad like games of old and hoping someone on your team gets onto it.like I said I'm not familiar with football games anymore but this game seems great to me.can't wait to take my revenge on my housemate on sunday...after that, the world online I guess....

Being a Wii owner you tend to get used to shoddy ports of games designed for other consoles, with dumbed down graphics and gimmicky "shake the wiimote!!!" controls shoe-horned in where they don't belong.PES 2010 for the Wii is a complete breath of fresh air. For the first time since original FIFA '94 for the Mega Drive, there's a completely new and revolutionary way to control a football video game. The controls take half an hour or so to get used to, because they are so different to standard console play, but once you've got the hang of it, it makes you realize how backwards and ancient other control systems are. With the Wii version of this game you can control dynamically where all your players are placed, where you want them to make runs to, who they should mark; you get to control exactly where you want to pass the ball rather than just pressing a pass button and a direction key and hoping for the best. The result is a much, much deeper and more enjoyable experience. Going back to PES 2010 for the 360, the game seems so retro, despite its superior HD graphics, because you realize how limited the control system is.Seriously, for the last 15 years all we've had from football games is graphical improvements and updated rosters; this is the first revolution in actual gameplay, and it improves the game so much. Buy it!

Don't decide not to buy this game after to playing the demo. The other guy who reviewed saying the demo was an old code of the game was right. The full game with the final version is much more improved when it comes to animation and a smoother more realistic football game. The graphics are brilliant playing at 1920x1080 you couldn't ask for more realistic faces and hair compared to FIFA console it destroys it in that department. Konami have almost nailed it, Its the best Pro Evolution game yet but does need work on the players animation. The players almost feel like bricks they need to loosen up a little bit stop making them fell like robots. And the commentary tho improved still not very good and the crowd are just awful.Konami are on the right track to fight back at FIFA (console) if they fix those little things i mentioned they will be a serious contender. Definitely worth a buy for any football fan or just a Fan of Pro Evolution.Graphics 5/5Gameplay 5/5Sound 2/5

This game is an absolute jem, although my experiences' with the keyboard aren't great so i'm yet to discover the real gameplay. However i can happily say that the graphics are brilliant, stunning from head to tail. Tail?I love the net graphics and the commentary. Sometimes i forget that the commentary isn't live! Although some bits have been repeated now more and more as i play the game. Marster league is the best single player option in my opinion, with great manigerial and tactical options plus you get to play a whole season with one club. So why do a cup when you can do a marster league. Become a legend is much the same as last year i've heard and in truthfull it is.Overall with a good patch for all the kits and logos',this game is the complete package. Plus it's a lot better than Fifa 10 on the pc. Never used to go with PES but this is defiantly worth getting and will be keeping me ocupied until the next release.

I have bought this game but was unsure because a previous version wouldn't work on my PC, however this works fine. This game looks and plays fantastic, fluid controls, beautiful graphics and a degree of satisfaction with every goal you score. If you have set it to the correct level then each match will be a challenge, just like football is supposed to be. Only down side is having to do lots of editing (teams and kits), commentry is ok much like it is with other games. When I play fifa games they look good but I always get bored, pick up the ball and run through and score, PES 2010 requires you to play football and pass, sometimes to even go backwards to go forwards. Brilliant game, cant comment on Master League as I have never played it, if want football management I play Football Manager makes sense to me. If you are unsure find a mate who has a copy go round his house, try it out... you'll be hooked.

PES on the Nintendo Wii has completely revolutionized football games. PES 2010 has pretty much perfected what they started with 08 and 09.The improvements over 09 are not huge, but enough to significantly improve gameplay.Defending has been tweaked slightly so is more manageable, you can drag a defenders run to intercept an attacker more easily. You can now hold down the Z button to sprint when controlling a player with the nunchuk joystick. This doesn't sound like much but gives a lot of extra control.Online play is a lot smoother, and you can use your Champions Road/Master League teams to play with online. The graphics are improved and proper songs play in the menus. In summary I'd say if you haven't tried PES on the Wii,get 2010 now. You won't look back.If you've got 09 and think 2010 probably isn't worth getting, think again. Theres enough there to make it worthwhile.

Forget about FIFA or even PES in other system. The PES 2010 for the Wii is the best football game I've played (and I've been playing them since FIFA 94 came out). The controls on the Wii allow you to create plays, crosses, advance players... in other words, it is a whole new game dynamic. The online play allows you to defy other players, which means the game is never boring. The AI has also been improved from the previous versions, which was very necessary. The main drawback is a steep learning curve for those who never played it. The other one I would list is the fact that you cannot play online using an edited uniform (this was really frustrating for me since Flamengo is not syndicated in the game and I created it manually...).Apart from that, there some usability issues that could be improved.

Pes 2010 is a good game, full stop. It has a good feel to movement while your playing and players react exactly to your commands. Although that said, it aint great. The lack of license's are annoying, and players take a five minute break sometimes after bumping into another player on the pitch. The levels of difficulty go from easy peasy to crazy hard in one leap, but stick with it and you'll get the hang of it. It has a better international experience that FIFA, but without the correct titles. ie the world cup is named the international cup, small rant i know but its still a flaw. I've played Pes 2011 and i think this one is the better buy, and its a lot cheaper at the moment,so if your looking for a good soccer game that aint gonna break the bank this will fill the hole.
