Well, being an avid FIFA player for the last 8 years I wasn't as excited about this title as many others were as i had never played a 'pro evo' game in my life! However i didn't know just how wrong i was! This games is immersive, fun and you can pick it up and play at any time which are all the qualities i love in a game!Okay, we'll start with the negatives just to get them out of the way! :)Firstly, although I never buy a game for the graphics and the Wii isn't known for its graphical realism, the game could look a lot better. You can see the resemblance between famous players and their game counterparts but work on this for the next edition is necessary (especially on body sizes). My secondgripe is that there is no option to make transfers (although there is another method of acquiring new players which is explained further on in this review) so oyu cannot choose to just suddenly put a major start such as Cristiano Ronaldo into your team. That's my moans and groans out of the way now onto what i think makes this game the best sports game i've ever played! The controls- This is what made me buy the game, having played FIFA 2008 on the wii and been disappointed i thought i would see if PES2008 was any better and what can i say, it's astonishing. I'll admit, they can seem a bit daunting at first as there is a fair amount to learn (but you only really need the basics to start playing some matches) however, you learn with experience. Also on the subject of the controls, they are so indepth you can carry out amazing tactical moves with a few button presses and a wave of your wii-remote! None of that boring analogue stick play which we are all accustomed to! You have the ability to control other players and move them where you want them by dragging them with the wii-remote whilst you are moving another player from your team, this gives you the ability to move them into space and completely destroy the oppositions defence!Champions road- My friends had told me about the Master League on PES2008 on the other platforms (PS3, XBOX 360, etc) but after playing the Wii's equivalent, the champions road, i believe that this is a far more interesting way to play your game. You start with a poor quality team and play your way through many tournaments to level up. Beating opposition teams is how you gain new players, after you beat a team you get to take some of the players and after seeing them you can choose whether to add them to your own squad! This does make a change from the usual pay money get player routine which comes with other Football/Soccer games out there.Online play- After hearing about glitches and lag with the online play with other platforms version of this game i was wondering what i could expect from the Wii version and i have to say it runs smoothly providing your connection to the internet on your Wii is good. The only probelm with this is you only get the option to play single matches and you don't know a great deal about your opponents in comparison to other versions (you only know their win/draw/lose ratio, but i suppose that's all you need at the end of the day.)So, you are likely to pay around £28-£35 for this game and i have to say it IS worth the money! But be warned, it is fairly addictive!Roll on PES2009 for the wii! Good job Konami!

Pro evo soccer is THE best footballing franchise available and has always been. This was the case until last year. Fifa's 08 installment really gave pro evo a run or its money and in many ways suppassed it. Pro evo 6 and 2008 (for the PS3 360 and PS2) Really dissapointed. Konami failed to move the franchise forward. Don't get me wrong they were good games but by now it had been seen before. With the PS3 And 360 versions the game should have played like the beautiful game. More fluid animation and lifelike situations were few and far between. The series peaked at Pro Evo 4 and since then fifa became a credible alternative to the simulation.I was very anxious in buying Pro evo for the wii or as i call it Pro-wiivo cough......I was so wrong. In many ways the actual competitions in the game have been dumbed down. But the gameplay has revolutionised the series. Never before has the player had so much contol over the team and individual players. Making runs, passing into space, man marking and pinpoint crossing make the player feel he at last has control over every individual. Also here is a very intresting twist to the whole pro evo series. In the past in the master leauge your team consisted of basically a team full of duds with no particular flair. When you started the master leauge you strived for every point and were fortunate to qualify for the first division in your first season. The game started off very tough and became easier. Now the whole premise of most videogames is to start off easy and develop your skills to a higher level. Past instalments of Pro Evo would reverse this idea and the further you progressed through the game and the players you bought you soon became unbeatable. Pro wiivo reverses this idea. While through the game you do aquire players of better ability as you progress, the teams you play throughout become much harder and therefore there is a noticable step in skill level. This makes for a much more satisfying experience.Gripes? yes and no. The first obviously is the control method. As it is so unlike any other pro evo game it takes a long time to ajust to. This is perhaps not a bad thing as it is such a sucsessful control method.Other issues concern defending. More time and thinking is required to win the ball back off opponents it isn't as simple as previous games. But loose passes from your opponents do happen and man marking and reading the game make it more satisfing to obtain possetion. Much like in the beautiful game.Shooting is also another sticky issue. To shoot you wiggle the wii remote. Thats it. The shot is determined on the individual players ability. Now being a fan of pervious games i would have likes some sort of power bar but then again the power applied in previous games was determied on many factors, Eg distance from goal, keeper ability and position. The game does take this into concideration and depending who's shooting and their ability you can still rocket them in. It takes a little getting used to as with many of the features in the game.Overall Pro evo 2008 for the wii is a game that will never get old. Like many wii games gimmics do wear thin after a perriod of time but this game really brings it up to a higher level. Simply revolutionary.

To the onlooker, Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 for the Nintendo Wii looks like a complicated collection of various lines darting across a pitch with very little resemblence to the preceeding editions of this respected series of football games. The addictiveness and depth of Pro Evolution Soccer are very much apparent with this game, but integral to finding them is the process of acquiring the skills to play the game in its revised and daunting format. However, do not be disuaded, it really is perfectly simple to pick up and within twenty minutes, you'll be ready to have your first foray into a match.A helpful series of in-game tutorials enables you to develop new skills in progression,so that once you have grasped the basics, you can move on to mastering the most adept of through-balls and forward runs.As a follower of the series from its earliest titles, I was very concerned at the prospect of doing away with directional pads in favour of dragging lines, but, as someone who considers themselves an avid football fan, this is the most rewarding title in the series. The option to drag players to make forward runs gives you far more control and personalisation of your play, devoid from the generic pressing of Triangle (old PS2 user here) to play a through ball. Now, the term 'precision passing' means exactly that.Another exciting feature is the option to play your Mii characters, which does add for a decent bit of humour given their big-head appearance, but is not massively removed from simply creating yourself as a player in Edit Mode on other formats. The Edit Mode on the Wii stretches to simply naming teams and players, hardly a thorough choice and perhaps won't satisfy those who need Aston Villa or Reading etc. to be adorned with their shirt sponsors and badges (Newcastle and Tottenham are fully licensed). In summary? It may take an hour or so to really get used to it, particularly if you're more familiar with the ways of previous Pro Evos on other formats, but with patience, you will be thoroughly rewarded. You feel in total control of your side, down to the finest details, giving you oppprtunities to develop your own style of play with precision, delicay and, ultimately, enjoyment. A worthwhile purchase for any football fan, but maybe not the first point of call for a pick-up-and-play sports game on the Wii (but then you do get Wii Sports with the console anyway!!)

Having played practically edition of Pro Evo ever i was both excited and anxious as to how this would turn out, would the lack of buttons hamper this version, and would the wii controls be just tacked on to make this "fun". Rest assured though, its awesome in every respect. The controls do take a lot of effort to master, and it seems radically different to previous versions at first, but its very much worth the efffort. This incarnation of the series manages to drastically improve the experience, primarily by removing the frustrations that were found in other versions, such as the insanely stupid team mates who dont run into space as run up the pitch,or simply stop running,or players that run off side all the time, or defenders that decide they are going to go walk about as the oppositions striker strolls through your midfield, theres a genuine feeling that you are controlling your team as opposed to relying on luck to a certain degree.I have read people complain about the defensive system in the game and it did definitely take some getting used to, but now i feel very happy with it, the trick seems to be to highlight the correct player with the wii remote and then u can control the player, once id figured that out, i felt that i was in control of my defense more than in other editions, although the sliding tackle doesnt seem to have the same satisfying feel to it as in other editions. The offside facilty is pretty awesome too. Striking seems a bit easy at times, with not as much skill involved as before, and no power meter as such in the game, but this and other complaints quickly become forgotton as the sense of control over your team involves u in the game like never before.i bought my xbox 360 on the basis that i needed to be able to play pro evo, as soon as i bought this my 360 edition got traded and my 360 has gone up for sale, as I no longer have need for it as I just dont see many games on the system that interest me. As a genuine football fanatic who liked but never managed to love the pro evo series due to its limitations that made it highly frustrating and left you feeling that it was luck more than skill or football ability that decided your fate in games, I cant reccommend this game enough.

The gameplay is really innovative and gives you almost total control over all of your players. The control system takes a good few hours to get used to, and is not something that you could just play with your mates if they had never played PES on the Wii before. Furthermore, the only way to play your mates is in an Exhibition match, there is no option for a 'round-robin' type cup or league between mates, which is how I always used to play PES with mine. The attacking play is fantastic, as you control which players make runs and to where, removing the frustrations of other footy sims where the AI controlled players don't make the runs you want. Similarly you move the Wii remote to pass the ball exactly where you want, either to a teammate or into space. However, I found the defending is particularly difficult to get the hang of, especially the sliding tackles. Also the shooting system gives you no control over where the shot goes or how powerful it is, only the timing of the shot itself, which I didn't really like. There is a complete absence of any sort of edit mode, such as editing or creating players or transfering players between teams. You are only able to edit the English League team names and a few player names, which I found disappointing. You can't change any of the kits, and Newcastle and Spurs are the only licensed English teams in the game. The tactical screens also lack sophistication, in the XBox 360 version of PES, you have complete control over formations, i.e. you can position your players wherever you want on the pitch. However in the Wii version, you can only choose from several default formations and can't customise, which is rubbish.Furthermore, if one of your players is sent off, you can't move another player into their position, e.g. if you are playing with 2 strikers and one is sent off, you can then only play with 1 striker - this is pathetic.Overall, the game is one for football purists who like the tactical elements of football rather than one to just pick up and play. Not as much fun for me as PES on the XBox 360.

I am uninterested in football, yet alone football games. The positive reviews caught my interest, but then I had seen a video of the unique controls for the wii version and I had to admit this actually made me reluctant to consider this game - its control system looked unneccessarily complicated and it didn't appeal to me. Nevertheless I made a snap decision to buy it. By my surprise, this is my favourite game on the wii yet and I can't seem myself getting tired of it. You have to unlearn the traditioanl way of playing football games and take on a whole different approach. Beginners would be advised to go through a tutorial or have a bit of practice to pick up the controls. However after a little bit of practice, you begin to get more into the game, as you realise you can control almost any player simultaneously and this allows you to play the game tactically. My favourite feature of this game is its online experience. It allows one player to play against opponents online in a free match that lasts about 20 mins and it searches for other opponents really quickly. What's beneficial about the online experience is that you can learn different and more superior tactics from the way your online opponent plays. The visuals are quite good considering it is the wii...but the players heads look a bit large and as always there is room for improvements. The opportunity to play with you Mii characters in a free match adds to the fun. If you are a wii owner, regardless of whether you are a football fan or not, I would definitely recommend getting this game.

I bought this game on its release date and wanted to wait a little while before giving it a review. I ,like many other PES crazy fans, was slightly unsure at the complexity of gameplay presented in the videos that have circulated around the web. Konami solved this problem by forcing me into basic training! I've played approximately 15 hours on game so far and i am happy to say that ''This is the best game i have ever played"The controls are difficult to grasp at first, but as soon as i got into the gameplay, creating complex tactics are actually quite easy to master.. I initially found tackling very difficult, but , i realised, once i had mastered a certain control method, the game put me through further training at the appropriate times.i was also dissapointed at the fact there was no master league option, but the nifty champions road function truly is a breath of fresh air, sometimes master league can boggle you down with stats and you can spend forty minutes looking for a player who'll most likely refuse your offer, the deck of cards option for choosing players is really fun, especially if you spot a player on the opposition you'd love to have! Its re-set the benchmark for me and my friends, up to thursday evening, i beat my friends quite convinsingly on pro evo, but this game has levelled the playing field. Its a really technical game that takes football to the next level.. i hope this game purely isn't a gimmik and konami continue to improve on this wonderfull engine.5star performance, well worth the buy.

As a Pro Evo fanatic who chose not to buy pro for my playstation for the first time ever due to it's poor quality this was a gamble for me. The next gen pro's are awful and i never intended to buy this version in case it followed suit. I only got it because i got a good exchange rate on Sonic and Mario. However i am so glad i did! This game is a breathe of fresh air, the gameplay is brilliant. The graphics are not the best and it is not liscensed for most Prem teams but Pro has always been about substance over style and the innovative gameplay makes this a footie fans dream. The control system is "easy to use, difficult to master",initially the different control moves are easy to do individually but confusing to use in unison but after 3-4 games it should flow nicely.Defending is hard but that is not necessarily a bad thing, attacking is a joy and you no longer have half witted CPU teammate AI not doing what you want them to do.Gone are the usual stat system and masters league and in come a simplified stat system and the champions road. I prefer the old stat system but this is a pro for changes so why not try it out.All in all i say this game is brilliant, if you are a pro fan get it, if you are unsure then rent it, i am willing to bet you will be buying it for real soon enough.

I wasn't convinced about a game using the Wiimote to display lines and arrows to direct passes or runs but having played this it is fantastic. It's also nice and easy to get started with a beginner setting to prevent frustration when you're learning. The Champions Road option is also great fun where you can pick 2 players from the team you have just beaten to go into your squad - bit like a lucky dip the players are in the form of playing cards turned face down - no names but a statement about their main attribute. This means no matter how many times you play you'll always end up with different players in your squad. In the beginning they are random players from minor leagues that you probably haven't heard of.However, as you progress through the leagues you'll start recognising players - I ended up with ex-Spurs player Stefan Iversson from a Norwegian team, then played against some English clubs and picked up James Milner, Martin Laursen, Matthew Upson and David Nugent - Your players also increase in skill as you progress and you can decide which skills you want them to focus on improving.I am a 33 year old (football mad) woman and I love it! Kids will pick it up straight away and I'm sure most blokes will thoroughly enjoy it too.All in all a fabulous buy for under £30.

I have been praying and waiting for evo for the Wii, for ages. I even considered buying a PS3 just so that I could play a latest version of game. Am so glad I waited for the Wii version! Spending £29.99 for this compared to £300 for a ps3 - seems sense to me!The Wii remote surprisingly works really well with this game. Passing is a dream and makes the old games console control look and feel so dated. After a few training modes and a few games on easy, you soon find yourself scoring at will, and making some great passes.Like other reviews - defending is a lot harder - but am I slowly getting to grips with this. I now playing on 3 stars and find myself winning games with ease. You just can't help smiling after a goal - as you know you have been behind the buildup of the goal and not helped by the computer. Graphics are v good - yes not up to ps3 and xbox HD standards, but they still hold up and run very fast, with no slow down at all.10/10 to the evo team - they have pulled off, what most people thought was impossible, and made a fully complete Wii football game. Which for me, means am holding off buying a ps3. Any footy/evo fan must buy this for the Wii!

I got this game the day it was released and i have to say first few days of playing it i was having mixed feelings on it. Now though i think overall it is the best most realistic football game out there. The new cotrol system is were this game is at its best point and move set your own striking and defending patterns. Also you have to do the training to play this game or be any good at it so its not a simple get 1 player and score 900 goals a game. This game makes strategy the best way to win. The graphics are nothing great but you dont need those graphics when you start at your own goal run up the wing with the midfielder, get the fullback to overlap. Midfielder lays the ball to full back, ball is crossed and its down to timing whether its overhead kick volley header or total miss. The comentry is also quite good aswell nothing amazing but good. Also players seems to have different attributes which you can compare to real life. Also one more thing, Its on the Wii. Overall if your into good football and not fifa types then get this.

I have had this game a couple of months and I am still playing it so it must be pretty decent. The ability to move players about independently makes it feel more realistic, and for a Wii football game the graphics are good. In fact I would say its the best football game I've ever played on a Nintendo console.Other reviews have moaned about the Champions Road, but I think it is a quite involving game mode (if a bit slow at times having to attach attributes to players). Some flaws though (which haven't spolied it for me but may do for others!):-Menus: the menus are annoying to navigate and trying to substitute players in and out of your team is more difficult then it needs to be.-Shooting: why have they decided that swingingthe nunchuck is the best way to simulate shooting?A button press would be better.-Freekicks: no control over these.-Tackling: seems fairly random at times.Definitely 4 stars then - but needs some work before the next installment.

When I first saw the advert for this game I was over whelmed with the thought that it would be miles too hard and complicated and talking to my friends they think it would be too but when I first got it it wasn't as complicated as I first thought it would be and I picked it up really easily. I am not a person who spends hours and hours on end on my Wii but I spend enough time to know that this is a good game. It is much better than other football games because you can send team mates on runs (more than one at a time) and generally tell your team where to move to. The graphics aren't amazing but it does not restrict the quality of the game and it hasn't bothered me. I have not come across any floors in the game yet.I am also so surprised at the price... I thought it would be an extra tenner on top off what it is. If you are wondering about this game, just go for it, it is brilliant and well worth it. You will have great fun on it!!!!!

I have been waiting for a version of pro evo for the Wii for ages as I dont have a PS3 / XBOX 360. Having played previous versions of Pro Evo which I loved, I then played the PS3, 2008 version on my brothers console, and I was disappointed. Then I bought the Wii version and it is in a different league. The attacking play is fantastic with the wiimote. Other reviews have commented on the defensive play, but I found that once you get used to it, it works very well. Sure, the graphics arent the best but, thats to be expected with the Wii. Intitially the controls were daunting and it isnt easy to get into so, its not the best for a quick game with mates who haven't played it before. However the tutorials are excellent and once you give it time the controls become 2nd nature. The final thing to mention is the online play which generally is smooth but, sometimes I have noted slowdown.Overall highly recommended.

I don't usually feel the need to write a review for a game, never have done and probably will never do it again. But, this is not a game, this is a forget about having a gf game. This seriously one of the best football games I have played in my life. I can write a review saying this is staggeringly good and even though I have hyped up the game, you wont be disappointed.Forget about pro being to difficult, this game you can learn in an hour.Playing on the internet against others, is smooth and non-stop fun.It demands respect, and has to have given the developers a mighty hard time in having to produce a better one next season or year. However graphics are the same as would be seen on a PS2.Not impressed by graphics or picture, but playing is another story all together. This is not a game for childeren, you do need to think, but it is rewarding.
