I am not the biggest computer games player, in fact the only game i ever completed is God Father on PC so i am surprised that i can say i am a proud owner of a Wii, which i have had now for nearly 2 years and have spent many a night ignoring the missus and playing PES 08 and other games which remain unfinished.Naturally i finished PES 08 and exchanged it for FIFA 09, but could never fully understand the game, enjoyed the manager mode but that was it and the controls made my arms hurt (yes I spent 6 hours a time on it) and A & B button should be other way round, so again swapped on Friday 27th when PES 09 came out. Took the missus for a meal that night so she won't complain about the time I was about to spend with the mistress (PES 09)that night. Finally started playing the game, took me 2 hours to adjust the team names to the premier league teams as they do not come already named. Arsenal is called North London FC or something like that, it had to GO!!!! Plus had to do several transfers that had occurred in the premier league, Robbie Kane is still at Liverpool in the game etc. I would suggest if you are picky as me in team names, have some sort of reference to refer to like internet or like me you can spend 20 minutes trying to decide if a team is Blackburn or Middlesbrough as I had to do it from memory. Finally got down to business on the Master league which I really think they should have been incorporated into the Champions road part of the game, but I suppose you get more games for your money, the teams in both master league and champions road are the same as you start with anyway. The biggest change is the defence control which has massively improved, the defence for 08 was too frustrating. The general graphics is better but that is because the players are small so it can all fit a bit tighter (now I need my glasses to play it) and you cannot zoom into the pitch which is the only edge FIFA 09 had on this game, and something Komani should improve on next year. The controls are still the same and I took it up again in no time. I started off playing in normal level using Manchester united to beat Liverpool 4-0 in a 5 Mins game which had a pace so fast it should come with a health warning. I spent 6 hours playing, finally going to bed at 6.30 Am, the missus woke up and found me still there and manage to drag me away!!Overall I PES 09 is better than 08 as there is more games for your money with the introduction of master league and the whole build a club/facilities thing in champions road and off course a better defence. Oh I messed up 6 hours work in master league by running out of point (got transfer happy and signed too many new players) so had to restart after the 4 hours it took me to play it but on the upside my arm doesn't hurt anymore when I play so I don't mind as the A and B button s on the wiimote are now being used as God intended. Now I just have to work my way back up to world class/top player or whatever it's called and start trashing Man United 10-0 with Arsenal in a 5 Mins game.Oh BTW if you wondering, I don't have any Children hence I have plenty of spare time!

Simply put if you have a wii and enjoy football games then this shouldn't disappoint. I won't talk about graphics, commentary, animations here as those who've played previous games know what to expect (more of the same) but rather other points. Firstly the new(er) playmaker control system for the wii makes attack so much more easy and fun by slipping through balls to your front line, beating the offside trap and generally moving useless dawdling players into good positions.- does it take a bit of practice? yes, but within about 3 matches you should get the hang of it and with training videos to help you, you needn't worry. As far as attack is concerned I wouldn't want to go back to the PS2 method. However the controls do have their drawbacks. In attack they're great, in defense or when off the ball they're very hit and miss. Rather than go into the details long-windedly it's a bit down to luck whether your players will close down and tackle and I prefer the old PS2 X-button for light tackle. Furthermore, penalties almost always are saved and again, don't play so well opposed to the old analogue of the PS2. While you'd think playing the game a lot would iron out these issues it doesn't really and when you lose a last minute goal because you couldn't get your defence sorted even when it was 8-on-1 then it can frustrate. My biggest gripe though on control is with multiplayer - don't expect to have the lads over and have them know what they're doing, it's not intuitive enough to load up and be enjoying straight away, furthermore if you want more than 2 on a team one has to play with the wii controller sideways but they can only control 2 players on that team! (Even then the playmaker control-player can command those players if they want). In short Multiplayer is dreadful and can kill any fun mood when spending a long while explaining the controls. That said, the single player is really good for the most part and you can lose many hours to the master league mode, Cup mode, League mode (that's things like the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A etc...) as well as Champions League and more. Yes you'll be editing a few teams that aren't correct but its par for the course. Despite the terrible multiplayer and the gripes about defending (something offset by the leap forward in attacking control), the game difficulty is easier, and if you want a wii game that is really value for money in terms of hours and which you can go back to when you've finished the others in your collection then this is really it. Could be better but still Pro Evo at heart.

I loved PES 2008 and became totally addicted to it. I thought some of the criticism was unfair, as it was the only football game that gave you almost complete control over your players. The 2009 version sees updated graphics, with none of those horrible glitches, more game modes and greater depth of play. The only reason I haven't give this five stars is because of the sound effects - the commentary is almost identical to last year and the in game effects are terrible. It actually sounds more like the crowd boo when you score! Also, the goalkeepers should be susceptible to errors - it's impossible to complete an aerial challenge and they never miss-kick a back pass. But these are minor criticisms.Having played the PS3 version of this game, I find this a far superior version. The graphics obviously can't compare but the playability is much better.Scoring has become more difficult as the AI of the opposition seems to have been improved. There are also two modes, one relying on the player's ability whilst the other allows you to place your shot manually. This takes some getting used to and I haven't quite mastered it yet. It's the player controls that set this game above the rest. Players can be individually controlled and there's a great sense of satisfaction when you make a player run into space, thread a ball through to the striker and bang it into the net!Defending has been improved. Whilst holding down the Z button closes down the opposition, a well-timed press makes a perfect challenge. Mistimed and you're either left for dead or commit a foul. Fatigue causes your players to be dispossessed easier and misplace passes. Substitutions and half time re-thinks are more the rule, rather than the exception. Players can be given individual strategic roles and unlike the 2008 version, playing your favoured formation doesn't always work. The edit mode is very good, giving you full access to clubs, players and individual skill level. You can, of course, give your favourite team extraordinary skills throughout but that would be pointless! All in all, an excellent game that's as close to the real thing as you can get.

After initially hating and then becoming addicted to PES 2008 on the Wii, I was very much looking forward to the 2009 version. It has certainly been money worth spent and has been improved in every area:Off the pitch:- Vastly improved and indepth edit mode, now everything within the game can be edited- Although the January transfers have not been included, a simple update via the Wii WiFi connection sorts this out in seconds- An official UEFA Champions League mode is included, which although is not a major addition, makes for a pleasant change for PES to have an official license on board. Its also nice to hear that classic Champs League theme tune and watch the introductory video!- The muchadored Master League comes to the Wii and also a much improved Champions Road mode gives the game more variety- The online mode has also been given a complete makeover, the 2008 version really was bare bones and a bit of a let down!- Liverpool & Man Utd are the officially licensed teams, with kit sponsors, stadium etc. Pretty cool to hear the crowd singing a few specific songs for these teamsOn the pitch:- Graphics much much better! Gone is that dodgy fizzy/blurry bottom third bit of the pitch/screen. The crowd is still cardboard like and the graphics obviously no where near that of the PS3/Xbox but can't complain.- You can use different control methods now, but I still think the original configuration is far superior once you get used to the controls- Shooting is more accurate by the optional method of pointing and using the B button to aim. I'm still getting used to it - passing to other players instead of shooting can get annoying!- Defending is still a bit average, using the Z button still seems to be the main method but it is hit and miss (literally!)- Same commentary as '08- Basic & advanced training tutorials still useful in perfecting that crucial 1-2 pass!Although reading back on this review it does look like I'm a Konami salesman(!), this is by far my most played game on my Wii and I can't recommend it enough.

As a massive PES fan, and horrified as I was to hear the FIFA 09 was the footy game of choice on the other consoles this year, it gives me great pleasure to let you know that this is the best Wii footy game by a mile. Not a great deal has changed from the 08 iteration on the pitch, but Konami have at least addressed the issues that stopped 08 being great. Shooting has been revamped, which is no surprise as they do that every year, but now at least you have the option to 'pick your side' of the goal to aim at (the original master league players may have issues with this as they still can't kick a ball straight......bless "barn door" Castolo).Defending has also been tightened up and it is now far easier to get yourself into a position to make a good tackle, and is far less hap-hazard than defending in 08. What makes this special is the fact that it is just awesome to have so much control. You can play it how you want. By manipulating off the ball players with the wiimote you can create gaps, make runs and generally put your players where you want, without the CPU deciding who runs where, which is such a massive advantage over any other Footy console game. It feels great to send the winger scampering off down the line, then moving your striker into space in the box then whipping in the cross. It feels great to play pinpoint corss field passes over the heads of full backs. It feels great to win the ball in midfield, send you striker off on a run and play him in 1 on 1. When you decide so much about where you put the ball and who runs where, it gives a great feeling of satisfaction and reward when you pull it off. The goal was pretty much all your 'creation'. The fact that they have enhanced the Champions Road, added in the Champions League, Master League and now a Full Edit mode make this feel like the full package. I always felt 08 was 'testing the market'. Hopefully, given the success of 08 and this game on Wii, we can expect more in the future.

Being a massive Pes fan i have become very disapointed with the next gen games both 2008 and 09 poor and 10 while heading in the right direction has many issues. I read on my forum that the Wii version was very good - Back to classic pes, was what i was told and my word they are not wrong. I play this game Classic Pes with the Classic Controller Pro.As soon as this disk is in the Wii and your playing your first game and making your first pass, it takes you back to an era when Pes was life and death lol, the passing feels natural, the game flow and speed is just right, the camera angle is superb, This is the business. The thing you notice is how responsive the game is, literally reacting to every turn, every press of the pass button and is totally in contrast to the next gen games, Fifa includedAs a one player offline gamer, its the AI of the CPU that is to be marvelled, I win some, I loose some, we have had entertaining 0-0 and 3-2 The one thing that is wonderful is realism but sheer variety of the play, crosses feel natural, organic and animations while old school really nock next gen in the shade. The physical side of the game has not been forgotten either and there are times you will get tackled but stay on your feet, also compared to next gen tehre is actually an arial game to be played as well. I have had thsi game now for 2 weeks and have to say its the best football game on any system period. If you like responsive classic Pes the one you fell in love with together with better than PS2 graphics and AI that cannot be found in anoy other football game this is the one for you. Simply superb

I have never played PES before and football is about fourth down the list of sports I'll watch. I am always on the lookout for sport games on the Wii, so for me it came to a trade-iff between FIFA and PES. From previews I heard that the controls were better than that of PES2008, and possily better than the FIFA '08 version so I hung back until it was released before getting a copy.I am glad I did. It takes some some time to get into it, but the instructions manual is one of the best I've seen and the online tutorials are a great help too. The controls are a pretty natural fit and it takes little time to learn the basics. It will be some time to get into all the advanced techniques I think. The online commentary, unlike some other Wii sport games, are quite good.I guess some people might be bothered by some great football club names not being there (due to licensing I thnk), but it is easy to rename teams. I don't think it is a distraction.Overall, I think it is a good buy and worth the wait.

I have played this on the PS3 and Wii.The Wii verson wins hands down on the playaility rating, it is simply the best football game out there. The way you can move any player into spaces to make runs / defend or recieve balls and play huge crossfield passes at will is supurb. Theres plenty of options, plenty to go at and you can edit virtually anything. My verson has all the premiership teams named now and also an Elite team I'm creating with the likes of Maradonna and Cantona. On the downside, the Wii just doesnt do graphics like the PS3. I know the Wii ethos is Playability first, but its hard not to be distracted by the PS3 versons clarity. Nintendo should build somekind of Graphics upgrade plug in for the Wii rather than a new console. If it wasnt for the Graphics being closer to Cube/ PS2 this would be the very best football game out there no question.

I cannot say how awesome this game is.It is by far the best football game I've played. As its using the wiimote pointer, this offers a totally different experience to the "normal" footbal games. It allows accurate precision passes and through balls. The movement of the player is not as restricted as playing with a standard controller too.Plus the game is not childish as you would assume (being on the wii). However there is a mode where you can play in a team full of your miis if thats what you want (and it is a great laugh).I would say, this game is a definite must for any football fan if you own a wii.

If you are a fan of PES then all you need to know is that nintendo have introduced a traditional controller to plug into the wii controller its actually a old school nintendo controller but with joysticks quite uncomfortable after a while but well worth it ! Ok if you have never played this game before read the reviews for all prior editions of this game pre wii.

Although the back of the sleeve indicates so (it claims to be available in 5 languages), actually playing the game only gives you the choice between English, German and French, if I remember correctly. So no Spanish or Italian texts at all...
