I bought this box to store smelly cheeses, and if the cheese smell doesn't get out you can be sure that a box is airtight. However there seems to be a problem with warehouse storage of the boxes, hence only four stars: the first box that arrived had one of the clips ripped off and the lid damaged where the clip was ripped off (the ripped off clip wasn't in the box, so that must have happened before packing). In the replacement, some of the glass on the rim was chipped off. I was able to combine the undamaged bottom part of the first delivery with the undamaged lid of the replacement delivery, but it's annoying that both boxes arrived damaged (and going by the other reviews,
