DOOM Eternal takes the gameplay of DOOM 2016 and amplifies it tenfold. It's intense, challenging and damn violent. It's incredible, I never knew I could play an FPS this fast. After getting to grips with the controls (you get bombarded with the new play-style almost instantly) you will be able to rip and tear through any arena that the game can throw at you, which is extremely satisfying and fun. Having been around 3 years since I played DOOM 2016 I was thrown in the deep end (I normally play open world RPGs) a few deaths later and after understanding the new enemy weak points you soon learn the new style. If you haven't played the 2016 version, play that first - it not only helps for the story but also the fast combat which Eternal has ramped up to 20 from 10.I found myself continuously looking for the collectibles - some are essential to help you survive in late-game, I'm currently replaying to get all the stuff, the new Slayer rooms are also just great fun to go through and absolutely wreck. From a artwork POV - I love it, its slightly more stylised than 2016 which was realistic. The eyes on the demons are bright and some of the scenery is awesome! I hope they add a photo mode.I have a couple of gripes with the late-game such as the some of the levels becoming more annoying, they just put every enemy you can think of (including the new Marauders) into a room and before you know it you've respawned. I understand the game is meant to be chaotic but when there's so many enemies it becomes a challenge. This isn't helped by the fact that on console every time you need to switch weapon you have to go through a weapon wheel instead of just pushing a button, it just ruins the immersion a little bit and can distract from gameplay. (you can switch between 2 weapons but no more)My last gripe with the game are the last 2 bosses, although they themselves aren't much of a challenge the amount of enemies that decimate you whilst also being attacked by the boss (which does huge damage) it makes you focus more on killing the always spawning enemies rather than the boss, however this may just be my poor crowd control skills.Other than that, its brilliantly fun and definitely one of the best games I've played so far in 2020. A solid 9/10 for me.

It’s like Doom from 1992 shakes hands with 2020I came from a generation of kids being scared to death of pixelated brown demons shooting fireballs and having an HUD with a face of a marine who would get a bleeding nose as you lost half your health. Having flickering lights terrify you making you not even want to go into that area to sort out the mess.Doom Eternal seemed like it would have way too many additions in the trailers eg the shotgun with grappling hook and for the first time, major play forming jumps that weren’t there in any DoomGames before. I was totally wrong. This game blends everything so well together and introduces each game mechanic at the perfect time so that you don’t getlost or confused. The story is basically that after visiting demons from hell on their own turf and via artifacts on Mars/gateways etc, (Phobos, demos like Final Doom), they thought it would be rude if they didn’t return the favour and see how they could redocorate our planet. The gameplay is perfect pretty much aside from ONE point. ☝? if you punch a demon and have a boxing match, then they don’t die after even 10 punches. I’m supposed to be the slayer!!! Ah well can’t have everything. The weapons are awesome, the modifications make it enjoyable, the campaign is fun.For me usually Doom doesn’t have so much of a long shelf life and probably means playing for 1 month tops. However for what the original FpS that made everything popular and famous, they have done it again. It’s not as scary or dark as Doom 3 for example which was more terrifying than Doom 2016.This one is more colourful with more emphasis on progression and achieving things eg campaign levels have challenges also. The old DoomGames were simply about “not dying” or the continuous worry or “what if I die???”Extras are almost pointless here as they are cosmetic for the most part.Art is given I the form of codex (info) entries found In the game and a lot of collectibles to find that make it a challenge to find them.If you like action that means you don’t get a break from it and then suddenly realise that you held your breath for 4 minutes because it was that intense.... this game is for you.I loved every minute of it.Thanks Id software. Quake 2 remake please!

Just as enjoyable as the first game, with more an emphasis on tactical play / pacing & platforming this time around.Despite my enjoyment, it's easy to see and understand how the changes could upset some people given expectations set by the original. It has a masterclass of a soundtrack and fantastic level design, crazy, fast action and although I don't care much for the narrative, I can appreciate that it exists.I'd definitely check out some proper reviews first, chainsaw and platforming mechanics didn't go over too well with a decent chunk of people so, being well informed on that will help immensely.I've docked a point due to this causing issues with my PS4 Pro though. Despite regular maintenance and cleaning,Eternal seems to push the system to it's limit on the main menu, forcing my system to overheat & shutdown on a few occasions. It could be an isolated issue and I haven't been able to identify the problem, but still thought it best to share. Either way, great game.

I am reviewing the xbox one version which is the same game. There is a great challenge to the game, you can't just play the game trying to use one gun, each gun has a reason for being in the game and it has a good amount of strategy involved. The only part in eternal i have disliked is the purple sludge sections they take away from the frantic pace of the game. Other than that one annoyance the game is the best fps of this generation. I have seen negative reviews regarding the platforming, which is fun because it keeps the pace of the game fast and replaces the death mazes of the first 2 doom games which lead to some cheap deaths. The platforming is good and people who say its difficult should play the ps2 Prince of persia games which had annoying fixed camera which was hard. I would rate doom eternal 9/10 as it has lots of fan service, throw backs to the original games, comics etc, the weapon design rocks, the music is superb just an all out amazing game.

After I had ordered it, it was taking a while to be out for delivery but I realised that I hadn’t actually paid for it so I fixed that. When it had installed, I hopped on it right away and Google had said that it was difficult but when I actually played it I realised how hard it actually was. I set it on the easiest difficulty and it was still too difficult for me. But all in all, a really fun game and not just for the campaign but for the collectibles and the soundtrack. I highly recommend it for people who are good at these kind of games.

Where do I start? Game of the year? Easily one of the best shooters of all time. Doom 2016 was incredible but tbh Eternal blows it away by quite a bit. I could sit and write all day about all the good things about this game and to be Frank can't say one bad thing about the game. Halo combat evolved is still my favourite game of all time (even after all these years) but tbh this is the best shooter I have played since then and I own lots of them. Don't hesitate buy the game rip and tear demons from limb to limb and raze hell.Awesome game

Ordered this on the PS4 , arrived next day early and popped the disc into the PS5, nice little box on the right of the screen offering a free PS5 Upgrade !Ray tracing at 60fps or balanced at 60fps, I chose RT and on my LG 55in 4k tv the game looks and plays superbly with the added bonus of audio also coming from the PS5 controller, adaptive triggers and vibrations ....fast action and great heavy metal sound track, what is not to like ?If you've got a PS5 and love DOOM get this NOW ! It's awesome !

Best game by a country mile I have played in years(a straight into all time top 10).An absolute must have.Cant sing it's praises highly enough, this is a fabulous game.Initially I was thinking boring repetitive shooter but give it time,it soon evolves into atotal masterpiece.Long have I waited for a game with this amount of campaign that hasyou totally hooked.Thrilled that Bethesda put so much into this, well worth the wait.Don't even doubt this game, just buy it.You wont be disappointed.

Fast paced gameplay, flawless graphics and the music draws you in to the point where it becomes virtually impossible to pull yourself out of the game. Depending on the difficulty you select will depend on your overall frustration, haha. But that is the beauty of the game. Once you play you will not want to stop and when it is over you will be jumping at the chance to start the game over again. Endless fun and a good release from the daily stresses of reality.

The game is a great update to the 2016 reboot. The idea of refilling health with glory kills, armour with flame thrower and ammo via chainsaw then the sword and bfg makes you always thinking what bar to tend to plus which weapon to use as different enemies are easier to kill with different weapon. The last couple of boss fights are so basic though same old big bad that we saw before a million times but the over all game is so worth it.

Easily one of the best first person shooters on the market. The reviews about the platforming being hard and there being no ammo are ridiculous. The platforming is good and breaks up the game nicely. As for ammo, unless you skip the tutorial, you won’t have a problem finding any. You just need to use the chainsaw! It gives you loads of ammo for nearly all guns. This game is a must for anybody who likes first person shooters.

Oh my goodness. Someone has spent a lot of time getting the challenge level of this game just right. Addictively good. Flakey story, limited flavours of challenge (smash and leap), but so expertly crafted none of this matters. Blink and you’ve been playing for days, your wife has left you and your child has completed school, married and had kids of their own. .....just....one....more.....go....before....bed.

Purchased this to introduce my son to doom and paid the extra to get the deluxe edition content. What a game, have to keep on move and get aerial whenever possible, causing a very intense response when playing! Great graphics and sound. My son was blown away although it does pain me to see him be so much better at this than me.

1.3.2021

Fantastic game a really fun and action packed first person shooter. Graphics are outstanding and the gameplay is first class. A real gem and excellent sequel to Doom 2016, story is full of Doom lore and adds to the experience. If you love action games this is a must buy. Don’t miss out on this masterpiece of gaming.

10.6.2020

This is an incredible game, the soundtrack is brilliant and the traversal and upgrade system is much more refined than Doom 2016. It is very difficult and can be annoying sometimes but the pros outweigh the cons. I would recommend this game to anyone who loves fast action shooters and who have a strong stomach.
