I wanted a small chain saw for pruning and lopping and general small odd jobs which did not warrant getting out my larger petrol Husqvarna chain saw. Since I already had DeWalt batteries for other tools it made sense to by the Dewalt saw.Having used the saw for several months now, I'm very pleased by it. It's very easy to use being much lighter than my regular say. One point to note is that you MUST keep an eye on the chain oil level. My petrol saw uses approx 1 tank of oil to about 3/4 tank of petrol, so I regularly fill up the oil. With the Dewalt, being electric, after I'd filled the oil, I forgot about this and only just thought about checking the level when I was thinking how nice it was not to have to mix fuel.Check the oil regularly - good chain saw needs a well lubricated chain. The other thing that I noticed was that the instructions say empty the oil tank before storage. I did not as I couldn't see why (you don't with a regular chain saw) anyhow, few days later I found a small puddle of oil on my work bench under the saw. I now keep the saw on an old tray.Overall if you're looking for a really easy saw to use, then is a good shout. One thing I'd say is that the seller should offer a chain sharpening kit for the saw as an extra - you will need to sharpen it eventually and my Husqvarna files don't fit this chain.A good tool. Recommended.

Great chainsaw and up to the usual Dewalt quality, if you are familiar with Dewalt tools.I bought this as I've had a fair bit of tree work done in the garden but the tree surgeon hasn't taken away the cut wood (why he was cheap). There is no way this chainsaw would get through the trunks of the big pine trees he was cutting down but it's great for chopping up the branches for fire wood. It does about 70-80 cuts of branches, which are about the width of a man's bicep, before the battery goes. I have 2 x 5 ah batteries and a quick charger so by the time one battery is dead the other one is ready to go if you keep swapping them over. It takes flex volt batteries too,so if you've got some of those it's even better. If you are already invested in the Dewalt system (I have a couple of drills and a jigsaw) then this is well worth it, and much easier that faffing around with a petrol chainsaw if you are just doing smaller jobs around the garden or for a pro who just needs a small chainsaw for cuts high up a tree, for example. For bigger jobs you'll need the dewalt Flex volt 16 inch chainsaw and/or Petrol. The good thing is that battery technology keeps getting better and cheaper and I'm sure one will be able to buy compatible dewalt batteries for years to come so it should be relatively future proof.

I thought long and hard about purchasing a cordless chain saw having previously used petrol versions. Main concern was the torque and power to do the job. I have to say that I have mostly Dewalt power tools so I was biased towards Dewalt as I already have a lot of batteries and chargers. I had also purchased the Dewalt strimmer and hedge trimmer earlier in the year, both of which are very good.I am really pleased with the chainsaw. It certainly has enough power to get through the logs and branches in the garden (I am no lumberjack). Battery life is good, I feel it is light in comparison to the petrol version (from memory) and I could easily hold in one hand.It does seem to go through a lot of chain lubricant but not a problem for me. It is expensive but I would recommend especially if you have other Dewalt XR products.

I had read some good reviews and they weren't wrong. Cracking little saw for the money. I use it for chopping up logs for my wood burner. It is a little slower than a petrol saw but this is outweighed by ot being quiet and not having to mess with fuel and cleaning the carb etc. The battery drains quicker than I would like but it still gets few a fair few logs, not an issue I I have a few 5ah batteries for other tools so can swap over quickly. No tools needed to adjust chain tension which is pretty handy. No complaints.

This isn't the largest or most powerful chainsaw I have used but it is by far the easiest. If you are looking to fell trees all day go and get a two stroke one from one of the big manufactures, this is not the machine for you. On the other hand if you just need to drop the odd small tree or remove some large limbs this is ideal. No messing about mixing fuel and oil, no fighting to get it started if its stood unused for weeks. Starts at a press of a switch, light, quiet and powerful enough for a 30 cm guide bar.

I have a number of dewalt heavy duty power tools, and have found them all to be of the highest quality. This chainsaw doesn't disappoint and is the same high quality as the rest of my dewalt tools, works great for garden use; cutting up branches that won't fit in the shredder.I already had some 4.0Ah 18v batteries, so I used those, instead of the recommended 5.0Ah, and after 15 minutes of use the battery is still on 2/3 bars. So for my gardening purposes the 4.0Ah batteries are plenty.

Great. Made about 20x 8ish" log cuts per battery. I can use my 4ah cordless drill batteries for this, I no longer have to mess about with petrol and mucky spark plugs. Best of all, it's charged by my solar panels! ? just remember to buy the chain oil!I think this is a much better option than petrol for someone like myself who only uses a chainsaw 3/4 times a year..

Wanted to test before reviewing. Awesome bit of kit, but don't forget you need oil and a battery. My 4ah doesn't last that long will buy bigger soon. Also need to learn how to sharpen. Could also do with buying a bigger bar but 30cm bar still works well for my uses.

Was a little worried about the power, but I’ve been impressed. Not the raw power of my petrol, but perfectly good enough for log prep (log fire) & gardening. Blissfully quiet - ideal especially during lockdown. Light, so safer - arms don’t get tired.

Did what it said on the tin. A bit disappointed that it didn't come with a small supply of oil. The Chain Saw doesn't work without it.It jams on soft bendy branches but it quite easy to clear.Works best on small trees or medium branches

As usual, excellent DEWALT quality. Amazed at what you can actually cur through with just a 30cm bar. Liked this one since it has a modern brushless motor so doesn’t cause any interference that could upset my pacemaker.

thought i would try out battery power chainsaw as have stihl petrol saws of various powers and sizes.if you keep chain sharp on this saw it is good for price and size and so light plus quite.

I wasn’t expecting a great chain saw, just something to help, but what a great little tool this is, have been using it all day and it’s a great little work horse

1.4.2020

Yes it’s capable of cutting to the max bar length with no problems , you need the larger flex volt battery .if your planning on doing an amount of work .

Perfect for little jobs, bit awkward using it left handed due to the safety switch on one side. Great little saw though very impressed with it.
