INTRODUCTIONThe Dead Island: Riptide storyline continues where Dead Island left off. If you have not played Dead Island 1 yet then I suggest you do before continuing to read this.Anyway, basically at the end of Dead Island 1 you and other survivors are rescued in the helicopter and are taken to an air craft carrier off the coast. All is thought to be safe, but then a massive monsoon comes and yet again causes havoc. The survivors get swept onto a new island called Palani, however it is still in the Banoi Archipelago.WHAT'S NEW:In Dead Island: Riptide there are some nice new features to the game.- New Character: There is now a new playable character called 'John Morgan'who is Australian.- New Vehicle: You can now drive boats which Dead Island 1 lacked.- New Skills: New skills have been added to the game for you to develop.- New Zombies: New types of zombies have been added as well as most of the original ones.- New Locations: You can now visit new places on the island such as 'Henderson'.- New Multiplayer and Communications function.GRAPHICSThe graphics are fairly similar overall to Dead Island, some people may think this is a bad thing, some may think it's a good thing. Personally I feel it's a good thing because after all you are still continuing with the same story, it would feel a bit odd if the graphics totally changed half way through.GAMEPLAYThe gameplay has had some improved features.- Weapons: Crafted weapons now last longer which is fantastic as it got annoying before when your weapons continually broke.- You can continue with your saved character at the same level you finished Dead Island with which is a really nice feature.WHAT COULD BE IMPROVED:To be honest it is hard to think of a lot that I can complain about...If I was to be critical I would say they haven't really added a lot of new features but I feel it doesn't really need many more new features.OVERALLOverall I think it's a fantastic game and I highly recommend it to everyone, especially those who are big fans of the original Dead Island.Value for Money: 5 starsAddictiveness: 5 starsFun: 5 starsOverall: 5 stars

I've now played through the entire game once in solo and coop play so feel like I can give a proper review. I should state that I enjoyed the first one which is why I enjoyed this one too.As other reviews have said, it is a very similar game. Understandably so, it started out as DLC but it is now a full game. If you pay full price I can understand feeling a little short changed but at £20 this is good value.There is one more character, a hand to hand combat specialist. All the original characters remain and you can import your DI character to the new game without keeping your inventory. Combat is still the same, the same satisfying splat as you carve/stamp/bludgeon/shoot your way through thousands of undead.No complaints here.The quests send you around the map, there isn’t a whole lot of creativity here. At best you have you find a different way to an objective that you first thought. However, as with many similar games, improving your character, finding new weapons and mods is addictive.Played solo the game is challenging with a steep learning curve if you haven’t played before. Although dying doesn’t really set you back until you’re set up with a high level character with WMDs it’s not easy to plough solo into the horde. Coop play is where the game stands out, you need some real life buddies but if you all take a character each you can smash through waves of attacks using teamwork and old fashioned shanking. The term to describe it, I believe, is lulz.Much is made of glitches in the game. I’ve not come across anything gamebreaking. A couple of the achievements are broken but that’s about it.

I have now played Riptide for approx 40hrs and I really, really enjoy it. It has me hooked to be truthful. The graphics are very good on PC, and since the patch update May 2013 to 1.4.1.10 (or similar) the performance is now equally good (with an i7 and Radeon 2GB RAM dedicated system.)The playable character moves are very well animated. Sam B is my favourite with his heavy hitting style. Following on from the original Dead Island, weapons are a plenty, with blunt force trauma style, slice 'n' dice style, sharpshooter style or good ol' hand-hand combat.Weapon choice is extensive and collectable weaponry is graded by 'rareness,' grey for common to purple rare,with orange for ultra rare if you complete a special set task for example.Rifle, shotgun, pistol, axe, two-handed baseball bat, tesla staff, two-handed wrench, police baton, electrified sickle, hatchet, roman candle shovel, mines, poison meat decoys, sonic stun grenades, hammers, knives and explosive grenades, are a plenty to give you a flavour of the weaponry available.I am very pleased the game code makes use of a PC gamepad's analogue right stick with a combat circle option. This means you can aim and swipe your two-handed axe left-right to lop the zombie's head off, else down-up to chop a limb off. However, even if you lop both zombie arms off it'll still persevere and try to bite you!I bought the following gamepad (review to follow shortly) for this very reason as i feel it significantly enhances the gameplay;

Dead island Riptide is a big step up from dead island. i really don't know why certain sites are slating it, ign and gametrailers have there reviews right!. there is a great improvement in the graphics and also the pace of the game is faster which makes combat feel better, the gun combat is been improved with there being less recoil and also seems smoother. there are new types of zombies that have been added which is a nice touch one of them are drowners which are creepy wee sea men lol first time i seen one it jumped out of the water i crapped myself there are other new infected but i haven't come across them yet.so far i have read that its about a 20 hour campaign not sure if thats including side quest but if the developer said its as big as the first one then theres hours of gameplay. I spent 80 hours on the first dead island doing all the side missions and finding the hidden weapons. if your a zombie fan this is a must have i would not listen to the reviews given this a 4 it is definitely not a 4 star game! its much better. i'm sure it will be just as good on consoles the graphics wont be as good obviously but it is still a great game and a must have!. its well worth the pennies and your getting your moneys worth with it being a big game unlike a 6 hour campaign like cod!

More or less the same as the first Dead Island game. There are some minor tweets and improvements but after 10 minutes of play time you'll struggle to distinguish between the two games. Not that that is an issue for my as I love Dead Island's game play. Solid, addictive n (occasionally) scary, this is a great game. Just don't be expecting any fancy upgrades from the first and you won't be disappointed.

Not as good as it's predecessor, but that's not what the game was intended for. It's basically just a continuation of the previous game, with the same basic missions that can keep you entertained for a while. The multiplayer is still just as good, but I prefer to play it alone anyway. If you liked the first one, you'll definitely like this one.

I returned to DEAD Island and wasn't disappointed, I loved the first incarnation and loved this too but was a little sad that the random loot chests are now only one hit- I used to tour the island opening all the chests in the search for the best weapons but could no longer do my loot cruise in Riptide. Still an excellent game though.

Wow. This game is brilliant! Good graphics, I look forward to watching my hubby play this each night before bed. It is quite scary, the zombies run at you quite fast.Fast delivery here in the UK.I can see that there is a storyline to the game, it starts to get very interesting half way through.

Yes, it looks more like an expansion to Dead Island than a brand new sequel. A new island to explore, a couple of new zombies and the good ol' zombie-head-stomping fun of the original. Oh, and with prettier graphics and less bugs.If you liked the original, you probably shouldn't miss this one.

this is a great game ffor the pc it runs really smooth on the pc big thumbs up for the developers , the graphics are good gameplay is good you got good co op play itss a big game lots to do everything very very good which is rare in a game excellent definatly a must buy for any gamer

Class game. I got this with the first one. You don’t need the first one but you can import your first games character in to this one. Same awesome gameplay with improved graphics although if your old gen graphics don’t really matter now lol. Great price. Thanks again musicMagpie.

As a fan of the first, I personally liked this game despite the fact that it basically an extension of the first. Yes, its buggy in parts but it wasn't too bad. If like me you are a fan of the first game and want to extend the experience then this is well worth a play.

Coming off the back of dead island I took a gamble with this game I didn't think they could of topped it and they didn't but they made a game like the first better added more types of zombies kept the same playable characters but changed the setting made it good.

Played the first....got addicted to it....thankfully there was a second. I don't get a lot of time to get on my xbox so when I do I like a game I can pick up and not get bored of. Riptide covers that easily as did the first, you wont be disappointed.

More of the same from DI but they have thought through a few changes and the combat side of things is a little more involved.Zombies will now also come at you from different angles and there are a few surprises too. Graphics and atmosphere are good.
