Skate 3 is an accomplished title that builds upon the excellent Skate 2 by introducing a new story mode, character customisation, areas, challenges and some graphical enhancements. You start the game as a pro skater and can customise your character's appearance and gear before forming a skating brand with the aim of selling decks and gaining recognition. As you advance through the game you can unlock new items for your character. The Skate series differs from the Tony Hawk's games with a control system called Flickit, which tries to replicate the movement of a skater's feet on the board with flicks of the right analogue stick. It's a little tricky to get used to at first, but once you are familiar,it makes pulling off tricks more satisfying. There is also a training mode with `Coach Frank' - Jason Lee from My Name is Earl - that will go through the main combinations. There's lots of ways to advance your career such as skate contests, video and photo shoots, downhill races and owning spots. The map is large and varied, composed of three main areas, but you can't travel between them without a loading screen. There's a great sense of speed and realism in the physics of jumping, pulling off tricks and the gravity you're fighting against. The controls for moving when you are off your board allow you to explore or reposition yourself for another run.For new players and seasoned veterans there are two difficulty modes: Easy and Hardcore. The former is more generous with building up speed, jumps and the execution of tricks. Hardcore makes momentum harder, you jump lower and have to be very precise with alignment to grind or land. The skate park editor is pretty comprehensive and allows you to build an area customised to your style of play. The visuals of the game are impressive, and while not a huge leap forwards from Skate 2, they are crisp and detailed. The environments are realistic with a suitably sunny and vibrant colour palette: from the university campus, to mountains and canyons, decaying industrial sites and concrete of the downtown area. The textures of the items you ride and grind over are well done. The animations and facial expressions of other characters are lifelike and help to set the scene. You can choose a low down, skate video-style camera or one that is around head height to help you judge your tricks. The sound effects really add to the immersion of the experience with the right mix of grinding, thuds, rumbles, wheel bearing clatter and noises from the world around you.Overall this is the best game in the Skate series, and perhaps the best skating title to date.

This is a belter of a game. It is easy to pick up and play and I cannot imagine the time I must have spent just faffing around on it.Skate 3, like the previous two instalments, uses the analogue sticks to do tricks and while this may seem complex initially, you'll soon be chaining tricks together and racking up the points. There is a main career type mode, in which you have to take on challenges all over the huge open world map, in order to get board sales for your skate company. These consist of all kinds of tasks like street competitions, films, vert competitions, death races, photo sessions etc,and as your company expands you'll also get other members joining your skate team who can join you in team challenges. The hall of meat mode and challenges turn your bails into spectacular exercises in bone breaking, as you rack up points for injuries and also for meeting other criteria like hurtling onto pedestrians from a height or landing in bins. When you're not doing challenges, you're free to skate around the big open world (which mostly looks great, by the way) and do whatever you like. There is also the opportunity to build your own skate parks ad thanks to a tool which allows you to drop props and ramps into the open environments, you can customise your skate however you like. Returning is the replay tool, which lets you watch your awesomeness again in slow motion and from different angles and also keep clips to share and re-watch.I didn't play a lot of the online features but what I did play was quite fun and allows you to compete or free skate with other people (random or friends) in the Skate 3 world.Though it does have some bugs, these often tend to be funny and as such I was able to overlook them. Top marks for this one, its shortcomings are more than made up for in comedic value.

I am writing this review of Skate 3 because this game is so cool. Most people between 8-16 will enjoy this game. I have had Skate 3, which is brilliant, for at least a week and I love it so much! There are epic skate parks like the Super Ultra Mega park. You can get loads of different boards (although you have to pay extra for them) and you can also get many different characters. I've played without X Box Live (it is quite tricky to connect to X Box Live) and haven't come across anything unsuitable for an 8 year old. It would be good if you could fly around the skate parks (like a maniac ) this is an epic game if you like skate boarding you will love this game.(F - aged 8)I think skate three is good because you can do really good tricks like backflips and front flips and you can go down really big ramps. I love this game and I think other 6 year olds who really like skate boarding would love this game too. (T - age 6)

My son pestered me for weeks to buy this for him. Having finally saved enough pocket money he asked me to order it for him and it arrived just in time for the weekend. He absolutely loves it, especially the cheat modes you can access by searching online - the McFly hover mode is us favourite although I had to explain the Back to the Future reference to him. Personally I don't get these games where you just wander round aimlessly doing stuff, but that's simulator games for you. Goat simulator is another one he loves which just totally passes me by. For what it is it seems like it really hits the mark so I gave to give it five stars. The real test will be if he's still playing it in a month's time.

Bought thinking this would be available as a backwards compatible game for Xbox One however it's not yet compatible so if you're doing the same thing as me then be wary. It's meant to be coming soon though but luckily for me, I still have my Xbox 360 and this game really does beat any skating game that's come out since Tony Hawk's Project 8. If you're a fan of Tony Hawk games though and haven't played Skate before like me, realise that they're very different games. Skate 3 is a lot more realistic and different to control. You won't be able to defy physics as much in Skate 3 but it's a really refreshing take on skateboarding games.

Great game. Love this game even though it came out in 2010 for the xbox 360 it got xbox one x enhanced which means its 4K. The game start up page is slightly outdated but that is what makes the game a "Xbox classic". Would be a great buy for all skate board lovers!!! Would recommend this product to people who don't even like skateboarding but likes a bit of banter.

Good skate game with some cool missions and progression. Really great customization. Once you have reached your goal, you can carry on skating street and replay challenges to get the best scores. The only negatives are the glitches that can happen randomly, and (in my opinion) a hard to grasp skate park creator. Overall a good game

Son loves it. He is 9. Looked into the age rating carefully before getting it. The images are nothing worse than you can get on bus side adverts etc in the street. The language is very minimal and mild and, again, he has unfortunately heard worse whilst we are walking around the shop. He likes that he can hook up with friends too.

Two boys happy equals happy mum , plus if I'm honest I quite like this game too ! Has good graphics and the levels are good -plenty of places to practise your " rad moves " Interestingly if you knock over an elderly person they will come and attack you , ganster grannies at thiet finest! Overall a good, playable game

I bought this game for my twelve year old twins, even though it states it is appropriate for 16 there is nothing of an adult adult nature therein, no swearing, no scenes of a sexual nature and no violence. My boys have enjoyed it and using xbox live have had fun with their friends, would highly recommend.

It's really good for me but there is some not very nice things happening like if you keep bump into the same old lady then she would shoot you with a taser. In my advice this game would be appropriate for a 10 year old or more. It will a brilliant game for anyone. :)

Undeniably the best skateboarding game around (if not comparing to its predecessors). A good solid engine, large range of tricks, skateboard park editor, hard but satisfying challenges and a great range of parks make skate 3 still a game that holds up even in 2017

What can I say, Skate 3 is a game for everyone and anyone. I couldn't tell you the difference between a skateboard and a longboard but the charm of this game lies in the fact that you don't have to have skateboarding experience to have great fun.

Who needs to actually skate, when you can do it on an XBOX? obviously i'm MUCH better in real life than i am on this game, i still haven't mastered doing a 100ft vert drop into a mega ramp on the game. But i could do it with ease in real life.

20.12.2015

My son loves this game. Always playing it. Quick delivery (to my sons delight). Although it is rated a 16, there is minimum violence and mild swearing in it. My son is younger than 16, but I feel that it is fine for him to play
