This game may be old but it has aged incredibly well, like a fine wine. Even today you should go out of your way to find this game because it stands head and shoulders above anything available today, mainly because so many of the elements of the game give you the idea that this was a labour of love, not just a wage packet.First and foremost this is a snowboarding game and it is the best since the untouchable Steep Slope Sliders on the Sega Saturn, just the right mix between accessibility and depth meaning that there is a hell of a lot of fun to be had just going from the top of a mountain to the bottom let alone as you start to look at some of the other brilliant features of the game, which once unlocked includes a nice variety of mountains.Amped 3 gives you plenty of challenges to keep you occupied when you want a bit of structure in your game, these range from score attacks where you need to impress people with your tricks, to the insane jump out of a moving sled and attempt to hurt yourself as much as possible. Sure in truth all you are doing is constantly trying to get a high score, old skool style but it is all presented so well you don't even realise it.The music plays away nicely in the background and suits the snowboarding well enough, the only problem is that most of the time you will be too busy concentrating to really pay attention which is a shame because there are some nice rocking tunes to hear, it's a testament to the game rather than a problem with the quality of songs on offer. The mountains are bustling and there is always something to trick off of, but if even the variety provided for you is not enough the game features a nice little edit mode where you can set up your own little snowboard playground.Everything about this game screams pure joy, but it has to be said that a particular highlight of this game is its story, which is absolutely, insanely bonkers and an absolute pleasure to watch unfold; through nutty animations, crazy cut scenes and wildly funny adverts. It's all completely entertaining and does nothing but add to the snowboarding.Very occasionally the challenges can be a bit frustrating, you might end up getting stuck in an irritating loop of irritation which you will think it impossible to escape, until finally it all just clicks and on your 30th attempt you manage to see it through and all the frustration simply vanishes as you are treated to another cut sequence which cheers you right up, of course you only have to complete the story challenges and that's only if you want the story or the unlockable mountains.Even if you don't like snowboarding you should get this game and playthrough the story mode especially for the big finish and if you do like snowboarding there are quite a few mountains to unlock so there is practically no end to the snowboarding goodness, so that you can trick yourself into a fit for hours on end.

This game wants so much to be liked - some people have described it as easy, but more accurate would be to describe it as forgiving - miss a stunt challenge? no problem, hit a button and it'll reset you at the top of the jump lined up perfectly to try again. Can't quite beat a challenge? try a couple of times to scrape a bronze medal, ignore it and move on to one of literally hundreds of other challenges. Missed a challenge start point boarding down from one of the lifts? Just hop on a snowmobile and drive back uphill. By the time you get to the third and fourth acts, the difficulty has ratcheted up enough to provide a reasonable challenge (although to be fair, through a lot of act one you will be scratching your head as to how anyone could fail a challenge)The quality of the in-game graphics is best demonstrated by the fact that I frequently stop the snowboard halfway down the mountain just to look around and soak up the views. Some of the terrain textures aren't quite as sharp as other launch games, but the view distance is vast (from the top lift you can see details all the way down a mountain that might take five or ten minutes to ride down) and the mountains are crowded with other snowboarders and skiers, who jump out of the way, swerve around you when you stop, sit around applauding or throwing snowballs. It all adds to an incredible feeling of immersion, and this game comes much closer to recreating the feeling of bombing around a real mountain than any of the SSX or previous Amped games.Opinions are likely to be divided on the cut-scene presentations - I can see how they could wind up some people, but that said, I annoy fairly easily and I really liked them. Even if one scene grates, the style and tone jump around so much - from anime pastiche and crude stop motion with action figures to spoof adverts and canadian sock puppets - it's hard to stay annoyed for long. I mostly just alternated between bemusement and amusement, and they link together a mad but interesting plot, and a series of very creative story challenges. For me, this is neck and neck with PGR3 as my most played 360 title - which one I pick up depends on my mood: PGR3 for an adrenaline rush, wheres Amped 3 is the perfect game to relax and unwind with.

Unlike the more straighforward approach of the original, Amped 3 heads for a more SSX-like direction, with emphasis on silly characters, crazy moves & tricks, big mountain areas and stacks of challenges. The feel of the game mimics real snowboarding very well, despite this not being a simulation game as such, with a great sense of fluidity and altitude. There's one slight anomaly in that turning in powder is here labelled 'carving' whilst in real snowboarding this is not what carving is!Graphics are superb, with views from high up being pleasingly life-like, especially when you look around with the right stick. The challenges are sometimes easy, other times difficult. Getting on to a rail (or tree branch!)is sometimes a tough task and the game will keep you going for ages as you unlock new challenges and areas. The game is more enjoyable the better you get at it: once you start linking rails together the feeling of satsifaction is immense, and the game can be very relaxing. There are other skiiers and boarders about, but you can't hit them, and even trees just bounce of you. The emphasis is on scoring high via jumps and tricks, not clean runs. The attention to detail is incredible, with huge emphasis on presentation. There are numerous cartoons, cut-scenes, storylines and neat touches - for example when you have a challenge in front of the camera, you'll see icons on-screen as if you were looking at the viewer of the camera (e.g. battery icon with 2 out of 3 bars left - very cool!)The only criticism I have is that the characters and voiceovers are utterly loathsome. This might sound trite but the game would be even more of a hoot if you could like the characters and empathise with their story. Instead, they're so irritating the storyline can be forgotten, which is a shame given the work put in. Likewise many cut-scenes, cartoons and challenges are deliberately, excrutiatingly cheesy. It's fun, but it's annoying! All in all this is a well-crafted game with massive effort put into its creation. It's entertaining, addictive, and genuinely reflects some of the antics one can experience when out on a board, but on a ludicrously exaggerated level!

After playing Dead or Alive 4 and getting thoroughly frustrated and wanting to throw my console through the window, this was a breath of fresh air. Its not easy in a "you'll do every challenge first time" kinda way, but its not the sort of game where you'll spend hours on the same challenge being unfairly denied glory. If you fail a challenge it'll ask you if you want to do it again, press the X button and it'll reset your position instantly and you can try again. No frustrating waits just to restart. Many challenges involve performing jumps and getting the required number of points, or hurtling down the hill on a sled and breaking as many bones as you can.Achievements can be earned by simply driving the snowmobile around for the required distance or getting injured a lot!The graphics are crisp in high-definition, if not groundbreaking and pushing the Xbox 360's capabilities. Characters are nicely drawn in a "Saturday morning cartoon" kinda way - not anatomically accurate, but functional, the slopes are nicely rendered and the cut scenes are crude yet fun.The voices are like something lifted from Waynes world and Bill & Ted's Excellent adventure, which personally I like. It adds to the laid-back feel of this game. The music isn't too bad either.Gameplay wise, it has a free-roaming style to it. You can do whatever you want, just explore the range of slopes you've unlocked at your own pace. Choose whether to snowboard, sled or use the snow mobile and head right back up to the top of the hill. As you travel down the hill, you'll stumble upon challenges. Simply press the X button to find out what they are and start them to begin building up your stock of medals and cash. There is a story built into these challenges and the next part of the story is unlocked once you've achieved the required number of points. All completely laid back, fair and ultimately fun! The control system is intuitive and all of the tricks are available to you from the outset.Ok, it doesn't show console off in terms of graphics, but it has a playability that is sadly lacking in most of the launch titles I've played. Well worth a go.

Amped games are the 'ssx' of x-box - i know that ssx was over both platforms, but amped has always been x-box.the graffics are nothing like the graffics of shaun white snowboarding, but then that game is in a leaque of its own!the graffics are 'soft' edged and 'playful' - its really hard to explain but there like wii graffics - not pixely, but not realistic - acceptable.the story line is fun and in depth enough to hold your attention, but not so deep that you forget about the snowboarding.as far as the controls go they are VERY simple, but if you go from shaun white snowboarding to this you will find the controls hard as the controls from shaun white are much more specilized and advanced.thetrick system is deep - there are pretty much all the tricks you could think of with a few made-up twists.the game is free roam style over a series of mountains and out have to ride to your targets and missions via chairlifts and such.there are great side games to play as well from doing certain tricks for the cameras to buttering down the mountain through hoops. from the start menu you can get a snowmobile out at anytime which is great fun, but there controls (ie. turning) are a little old school. as you go though the game you unlock new sleds from a tea-tray first to an inflatable hot dog.what surprised me was the shear amount of people on the slopes - the computer (AI) characters, there were millions of them, but there are on the main slopes and not in the trees or backcountry.as an overview, this game is GREAT for a mess around snowboard game. unlike shaun white snowboarding - which by the way is the most realistic sports game ever (buy that insted of this and go online - i challenge you all haa haa) - shaun white snowboarding is a hardcore game and is only really for snowboaders - as the trick system is realistic as are the controls. if however you like the idea of snowboarding, like a simple-layout, super fun game - this is the game for you

This game a tremendous! Whilst you may be put off by the relatively cheap price tag, or the fact that its poor sales at release contributed to the downfall of a very good company, you really should give it a chance. The story line is absolutely ridiculous, the tricks you can pull off are damn near impossible, and some of the characters you will encounter will have you scratching your head, but that's what's so great about it! The fact that it is quite tongue-in-cheek is what makes it so playable. Sure, most true snowboarders will prefer the realism of other titles; but the truth is that most people aren't snowboarders and just want a good game to enjoy and have fun with. The gameplay is largely varied.Whether you're playing through one of the many media callout challenges, collecting kitty glitter, trying to injure yourself by falling off a sled, paragliding off a mountain top, throwing snowballs at unsuspecting boarders or pulling tricks on a snowmobile, you'll never be bored at the fast paced action. It's not all fun and games. There is no online feature to speak of outside the leaderboards for high scores in the challenges, and the multiplayer is also limited to a strange duel involving a piece of rope and two rubber dingies. It all seems a little tagged on, but the remainder of the game makes up for it by being entertaining throughout. The basic gameplay and bizarre story line means it can be accessed by all ages, whilst the harder challenges at the end mean that it has enough depth to keep even the most enthusiastic gamers entertained for a long time. The fun you'll get out of it for such an affordable price means that you might as well give it a pop and see if you like it - it's probably one of the most accessible titles on the 360 to date.

One of the first games i got for my 360, i couldn't wait to shove Amped 3 in the machine and get gaming. I was impressed with the feature that lets you create the unique look of your character (male or female) by changing tops, trousers, boards, bindings, hair, the list goes on. Then i excitedly chose a drop point on the first maountain, and sped down the mountain, amazed by the way the snow powders behind you and the graphics in HD in general are just brilliant. The music is good, with 300 tracks to choose from, but i nevertheless put on my own music. There are endless story missions, of varying difficulty, and are great fun until they.. well....end. Then there are the REALLY neverending side and bonus missions, which go on forever, letting you unlock new gear and tricks. These side missions are great fun and as they are in such an abundance, they give the game a long and lasting life. I enjoyed the fact that more points could be acheived by executing tricks slowly and with style, unlike the ridiculously disorientating prewinds that occur in the SSX franchise. Another final point that needs to be noted, is the sheer size of the game in general. It features 7 mountains, the first three of which have 3-4 huge areas. then there are the last 4, which are smaller but just as enjoyable. Each mountain focuses on different aspects, like the penultimate mountain, which focuses on jumps, and the peaks of the first three mountains, which are ideal for "carving".FINAL RESULT ; AMPED 3 = 9/10Thanks for reading, Joe.

I got the 360 the day it was releaced, with PGR 3, PDZ, and Amped 3. now i found that the game is a critique of itself, constantly taking the mick and constantly throwing something stupid to liven your mood. it took me about 2 weeks to complete the story mode and another month to complete all the media callouts and magic circles, kitty cleanups, samourai salmon(all but one),and the only thing that takes time on this game is the sheer size. most mountains have 3-4 areas which in turn can have from 10-30 challenges. the graphics are great (especialy on the bigger 42"+ size hd screens) with snow reacting as you would expect, as your charichter model falls over, hitting a cliff and falling to near death is just entertaining especialy with the bone breaking noise.I picked up this game as a sceptic, figured that FPS rule end off but i tell you when you get sick of the NATO ending on BF2 and you pick up this game and play you will be sured to have been chilled out (unless you do magic circles or kittly cleanups). your then up for some serious shooting. To express what i mean is that this is a game to clear your mind of another game and it does it well. if you play it for more than 10 min on your first go and complete weinerland you WILL be hooked.btw the Amped recipies on the loading screens are actually nice to make/eat

I really enjoy this game. I suppose this makes a nice change from the over release titles. You can just chill out while riding down vast snow covered mountains.Firstly it goods very good with a real feeling of size. The mountains are very very big and riding top to bottom can take almost 10 minutes. Everything looks and runs very smoothly.Sound wise there is an impressive amount of music tracks to try your ear to. Most of these tracks are alright and after a while start to grow on you.Game play is kept simple. This could be a problem if you are after something deeper. Otherwisw the control system gives immediate access to all the tricks from the start. The game is packed with ideas and nice touches. The stand out thing for me is the short films between key sections of the game which are very funny. This makes progressing the game more interesting and worth your time. The game is big. I was able to finish two Xbox 360 games within a week but after almost three weeks I have only unlocked about half the courses. The only con I can think of is the difficulty curve jumps about a bit. Some missions seem very easy, the next mission almost impossible and then very easy once more. This game is not ground breaking but it is fun to play. Whats more important than that?

In this game they've achieved the kind of presentation the SSX3 was going for but didn't quite achieve due to the limitations of the hardware - the mountain feels huge and free, you can join in with competitions or just mess about on your own. The presentation is great - I can see how the videos and voiceovers would annoy some people, but I think it's funny and unusual, and they should be given credit for trying something different. Downsides: I haven't seen any actual races yet - it's all been tricking so far (fun, but I'd like to have the occasional race) - I've only just completed mountain 1 so maybe there's more. The graphics are good, but not breathtaking - I'm still waiting for the snowboarding game that can take your breath away like a real mountain range can. The lack of a real same-console multiplayer mode is a bit of a let down as snowboarding games are usually a good laugh at parties. All that said, it's a great launch title, from what I can tell it's a pretty huge challenge and I think it'll be the second longest-lived of the launch titles (after PGR3). Worth a buy if you've got some spare cash.

This is an underated game. Most shops now have reduced it's price which encouraged me to purchase it and it is a great purchase. For your money you get a snow-boarding game with a story mode that includes comedic cut-scenes a-plenty. This ends with a musical song sung in your honour with tongue in cheek lyrics like "We hope you enjoyed this game, even though the story mode was lame!".Which brings us onto the music. Great, varied soundtrack with over 300 audio tracks (that is equivalent to 30 CD albums you are buying!).Aside from the story mode there are various other challenges with a range of events that will test the great and casual gamers alike. And there are loads of these split across the mountains of the game. Also you can build your own objects on these mountains to be able to do more tricks. The snowboarding in the game though is designed to be arcady, no way you can jump from those sorts of heights, so real snowboarders may not like it. And the online mode only consists of leaderboards where you can try and beat the best at all the challenges.Great game though.

BR>Firstly, I found the game initially a bit of a disappointment. The graphics are great, the best ever in a snowboarding game but, unlike ssx, there are no races- just various challenges as you meander down the mountains. The thing is though, once you get your head round the structure of the game it gets a lot better. You complete a number of challenges and the story progresses and you face more, tougher, challenges and so on.I finally completed the story mode after a couple of weeks, but be warned that some of the final challenges are very frustrating. They are possible though, so keep trying!Even then though, there is still loads to do as you go back and do the challenges that you missed previously or get that elusive gold medal-it really is a massive game!To sum up then, once you get into this game it does grab you and wont let go til you have completed all the challenges and stoked (or impressed) all the others on the mountain. Just give it a chance!

Got this game with my 360 for Christmas, and ploughed into it non-stop over the holidays!I'm a fan of board-riding games (all the way back to Cool Boarders on the original P.S!) and this one would sit in the top ranks. It's easy to get the hang of, looks slick, has a bangin' soundtrack and loads of the latest boards and gear to unlock along the way. The addition of snowmobiles and sledges that you can ride at any time was a brilliant idea that adds to the longevity of the game.My only quibbles were that some of the levels are quite short (although fantastically detailed) and there's no video unlocks like the Tony Hawk games, which gave a sense of purpose to the game. These are minor asides, though, and I'd totally recommend this game to any frustrated snowboarders out there :oD

Bought this game as me and my partner have just got an xbox 360 and of course he's set up on COD so i fancied looking for a cheap game i could have a play around on.After reading through reviews and such for a number of different games, i went for this one, and havn't regretted it!It's fun, keeps you attention with an entertaining story and clips, there's lots of mountains and different challenges which are addictive and not too hard, and is simple. It has nice features like the customisation and being able to modify the music playlist etc. so it's nice when you just want a messaround without getting stressed or anything.Gemma x

Amped 3 is an absolute gem. I don't usually like sports games but this one is brilliantly simple and engaging. The controls are easy to learn and there are different challenges to suit all skill levels, but it doesn't veer into the impossible like so many skill-based games (especially driving ones) do. I don't like games where it feels impossible to beat all the challenges no matter how hard you try - Amped 3 has the balance exactly right - it gets hard at the end but you always feel success is within your grasp.
