Once again, pixellated art; which really get on my nerves. I was hoping that they would use some filters to minimize the effect but sadly it is not the case. If you get a Nicalis game, you know what to expect as far as graphics. The story is really whimsical and the characters nicely made, although due to the graphics; at times you get quite a contrast between the cutscenes and the actual gameplay. It is not hard to play but it is very "old school"; which means pretty much enemies pounding you all the time, while you try to get through the various levels. IF you played old school beat em up like final fight and similar, the game is quite reminiscent of that gameplay. With the difference that you don't use punches but a sword as big as the main protagonist. While you progress you meet more characters and you can use those to play; which give you a bit of variety in attacks and play style, but fundamentally the game is still the same. Good idea to have 3 different planes and be able to move through them; although it is more like an homage to old arcade games of the past, more than a real innovation. Not bad; if you like this kind of games, it is entertaining and decently long. Much better in portable mode; on 1080p monitor it just look like too pixellated to be appreciated.

Cliff Notes Version:-Guardian Heroes fan? This was worked on by some of those OG developers.-Characters n customization connoisseur? 40+ playable characters with a cornucopia of upgrade options and skill points to distribute.-See above for replayability and extended game length if desired. (Use context clues ppl)-If we're gonna complain about the fidelity of the visuals, let's get one thing straight. This game was re-released MORE bc it was a chance to reach a larger audience, and LESS bc a graphical or mechanical upgrade was mandatory due to aging well, or lack thereof.-Combat is a bit stiff. Not broken, not bad. Just slower than your average beat em up.Small bit of time to adjust n get used to said combat.-Environmental designs/levels are creative and fun, with interactive elements.-MORE of said variety would have been nice. Definitely not a plethora of locales. Yet the ones contained within are great.-As is the soundtrack.....-Speaking of which. First run of copies come with a soundtrack cd/instruction book/stickers/miscellaneous extras. I LOVE THIS. NICALIS is obecof the last of the great companies that respect a collector's money, decision to support indie games, and give extra goodies n stuff in return, with all of their releases.

I had quite a lot of fun back in the day with the 3DS version. As soon as I saw they were making a switch version I decided to grab it. The game itself is a pretty solid beat em up (spiritual successor to Guardian Heroes). However $40 is a bit of a steep price for a souped up 3DS port, but it does run and control well. The 60fps vs sub 30fps of the 3DS version is night and day in terms of performance. I'll list the pros/cons vs the 3DS version:Code of Princess EX. Pros (vs 3DS version)- Now 60ps so far through what I've played. Game was barely 30fps as is on the 3DS.- Character portraits on the big screen look good. Combat feels much smoother. Launch edition comes with a game manual and sound track mini cd.- Online co-op for the entire campaign and extra missions. You can play locally with just the two joycons which is probably HUGE for some people.Cons -- English voice over is gone for whatever reason.- Character models themselves look... very 3DSish on the big screen (not the portraits, those are good) they should have done something to make them look better.

This port from the 2012 3DS game is a good choice. This game didn't get much attention on the 3DS and that is a shame. This game plays like a side scrolling beat em up, with RPG elements. Bonus is once you complete the game you can replay it with any of the characters in the game, even the enemies. This is a fun pick-up-and-play a few levels kind of game. It has a story but thats not what keeps you coming back, the combat feels really good and you will have fun trying out all of the different characters. Worth a try for fans of beat em up style games.

I was pretty excited about this release. I never played it on the 3Ds and was stoked to find out I could add it to my Switch collection. So far I am enjoying this beat em up rpg style game. As always the extras that Nicalis provides in the physical versions make physical collecting fun AAANND it comes with an alternate cover art! The Princess is sooo beautiful too lol

I own the 3ds and the EX version. I don't see too much of a difference between the two beside the obvious upres and the lacking of the atlus dub, but same great gameplay. Highly recommend this version. Great for dock play and portable mode. Played two players randomly at the grocery while gf was shopping and I was drinking beer. What's better than that?

Solid, old school beat’em up with some modern elements. Very much an up-res from the 3DS version so don’t go in expecting revolutionary graphics. Game is fun but it does suffer from repetitive aspects that more modern gamers may dislike. If you grew up during the late 80s-90s of gaming, this game will remind you of those times; for better or worse.

Only a 4 out of 5 because I was a little sad they dont appear to have modified much of the game from the DS version. It's a great beat em up for sure really fun and having played the original it is really cool to see on a big screen. If you like beat em ups that take a lot of cues from guardian heroes, this is a great example.

The game is a good hack and slash if a bit chaotic at the later stages with a large cast of playable characters to choose from. The story is interesting and the mechanics are simple, but effective.

don't listen to those other reviews that say this is a downgrade. this is a definate upgrade way easier, endless replayability , and awesome graphics and best of all a better level up system

I’m giving this a 5 because I’ve played nothing like it it’s gameplay is old school. It’s fun and better than I thought if your offended by a half naked character don’t buy though

Thank you for porting this over to the Switch. I loved this game on the 3ds and love it even more on the Switch. I hope they will decide to make more code of princess games.

One of the better Nicalis titles to date and even better if you snag the launch edition..although it has slightly less goodies than other Nicalis launch editions

A fun hack and slash style game with more than its fair share of jiggle.
