I hesitantly bought this toy for my seven year old, after reading previous reviews and can say I was pleasantly surprised. It took about 3 hours to put together, but it was worth the effort and quite fun once we got into the swing of it. A few things to note which may avoid any melt downs...no 7 year old (the recomended retail age for this toy) is going to be able to put this together themselves. Period! Either get them to help you, or leave you to it. The pieces come in a number of small plastic bags, that initially appear to have no logic. They are organised by like for like pieces, rather than the pieces you need for each stage. Suspect this throws a lot of people.I'd recommend emptying them all out somewhere with space and organising them into small piles first. Trust me when i say this'll make your life much easier!! The instructions are fairly easy to follow, however every now and then it'll show a stage without listing what pieces are needed first. No biggie as its obvious which pieces they are, just something to be aware of. It was MUCH sturdier than expected. We encountered no problems putting it together once locating the right pieces (no glue needed) and the bricks had a reassuring click to them quite often. I would say that if you don't want to be putting this together ever again, glue is probably a good idea. Because at the end of the day its a Lego set (albeit a cheaper version) and realistically isn't going to stay together indefinitely. I think this is a great set and a real bargain for the £30 we paid for it. There's no doubt that it would be over £100 if made by the real Lego company (very surprised to find that they didn't jump on that bandwagon). We've had lots of fun playing with it and its still together a few days later :) Final bit of advice....consider leaving the back panel off the blue police box, its much more fun if playing pieces can enter the tardis through the police box door :)

I decided to write this review after reading some negative reviews about the durability of this 'lego' type toy.My 7 year old son, who has special needs which include co-ordination problems, received this for his birthday and we have spent many hours together constructing it.I think that even with a child with excellent fine motor skills most would require some help with constructing this. However, I do not see that as a bad thing as it is a good opportunity to work together to follow instructions and construct it. The instructions are pretty simple once you get the hang of them - they do need careful consideration to ensure the pieces are in the correct position, hence needing adult support.I am mystified at just why reviewers are complaining at the durability of this toy. In my experience lego-type toys have never been particularly durable. The whole point of them is that you can construct and re-construct them. The whole point is in the building - and then perhaps re-building and re-designing using, dare I suggest it, one's imagination. If you are looking for a toy that your child can 'play' with in longer term role play games, then I suggest you purchase a playset

This toy made my son happy. I have a few things though, although it is essentially a variation on the Lego theme, when putting the sides on, they do not quite fit together properly, even when you take it to pieces and start again being slow and methodical, the base also does not want to stay together either. If you have the room, i would advise that you use some glue when you build it and leave it assembled, some of the pieces will start falling off once the kids are playing the games with it. If Lego did Dr Who, i would go for that every time, i know it would fit together properly and stay assembled when done, but having said all this, it was fun to build and he had a great time playing with it regardless. On the plus side, despite what is said in a Youtube video of someone assembling it, it took around 2 hours once the pieces were laid out and the instructions are actually a bit better than you get with Lego.

The TARDIS Interior has come to us in Lego form, but how does it fare?Character Building Doctor Who Ultimate TARDIS Playset: It's a very tricky thing to build as it is a very complex design, and with 665 pieces, it is definately the biggest ever Character Building set made. 2 were bought and they both had very different builds and I found out that one had more of one piece than the other did. But they might just be trying to mix things up a bit. When it is built, it holds together very well, and when I say when it's built, it took me approx. 9 hours to build it and some pieces do keep popping out, but when it is completely built, it's fun, but don't play roughly with it, or it will keep breaking.Overall,it is a good set, but it is only durable if you play with it gently. A great buy all in all. 9/10

Having read some of the reviews about the bricks being loose and how poor it was I was a little concerned about buying this as a Christmas present for my 8 year old Son. I was however pleasantly surprise as to how well it went together. Again as with the Dalek Factory it took some building and again an 8 year old would really struggle building this but I think some of the comments about it being flimsy and not very well put together are unfounded, they obviously didn't build it right. I think this set is far more durable than the Dalek Factory although more difficult to build. It seems pretty solid to me and a very impressive looking structure when it's finished too,my Son plays with this far more than the Dalek Factory.

Bought for my son for Christmas, despite many negative reviews, and not regretting the choice yet! However, I would be interested to know if any of you have found any workable solutions to the common problems with this set? It IS a good set and looks great when complete but is not easy for a child to play with without it breaking. Don't want to glue it together as we don't have the space for another large permanant playset. In particular, has anyone found a solution to the upper left wall / roof section (stage 52 in the instruction booklet) which drops off at the slightest touch? I haven't been able to think of a way of strengthening this section without making it look rubbish!Cheers for any help,Mandy

This is a great toy and good value. We ordered from here as it was around £15.00 cheaper than anywhere else, it arrived within a couple of days and was exactly what we expected. The diagrams are not quite as easy to follow as real lego but the elements fit together properly and as long as you follow the diagrams carefully you will not have any problems. My daughter loves it and we have spend several very happy hours building it together. I would suggest it is a challenge and best completed with adult help for maximum enjoyment.

As other reviews indicate this is tricky to construct. Once done it's quite fragile to play with. However, once done, it looks well and the individual 'bricks' are reasonably high quality although not actual Lego. If you already have some 'real' Lego then the best thing to do is to use it to reinforce the construction to make it more playable. Pros: 4 figures, Tardis, current price of £12.49. Cons: fragililty of completed construction, not really suited to young kids (and isn't that who its for?).

For my grandson, who will be 7 in May, along with the Ultimate Tardis Playset and the Tardis Mini Construction Playset. All will be wrapped in Doctor Who gift wrap, and he will get a talking card (Dalek). As a special treat, I'm taking them to the Doctor Who Experience, end of May... with an extra surprise thrown in!

The only downside to this present was that the pieces seemed to be completely randomly placed in different plastic bags, so we had to end up opening all of them and organizing the pieces ourselves with a more logical system. That said, it is Lego quality and definetly worth buying

My boyfriend is a Dr Who fan, so every year I buy him a Lego type kit. This one is quite big with lots of smaller parts, so it keeps him busy while I watch TV. Result!

My daughter has this so of course my son wants one. Tricky to put together and does come apart very easily, not quality like lego but the children love them!
