I ordered this for my Canon 6D to help me see depth of field better with my 50mm f1.2 and 24-70mm f2.8. The focusing screen makes a big difference and it is much easier to see exactly what is in focus and to check critical focus with this screen over the standard Eg-A II screen that is included with the 6D.Pros:1. Quite easy to install (but see cons and installation tips)2. Makes it easy to see depth of field and check focusCons:1. A little pricey in my opinion for a small piece of plastic... (In my opinion)2. Installation can be fiddly and care needs to be taken not to drop or scratch the screen.3. Makes the viewfinder noticeably darker for lenses with an aperture smaller than f/2.8.Installation tips:1.

So you're paying £30 for a piece of plastic.This is frustrating, alas an inevitable consequence of letting companies run amok with annoying proprietary standards for the sake of a dollar.Anyway, gripes about the realities of our stupid society aside, this piece of plastic is pretty good if you mainly use fast lenses on your 5D2.I use the 28mm f1.8, 50mm f1.8, 85mm f1.8 and (you guessed it) 100mm f2.8 macro. Also the 28-135mm IS.For the f2.8 and faster lenses this screen gives you superior depth of field realisation, better for composure and focusing.You sacrifice some brightness, but to be honest this is more faithful to the image you end up acquiring 9 times out of 10 anyway!However due to the reduced brightness it's not to be used with f4 or beyond.

Wide aperture lenses (e.g; f1.4, f1.2) are difficult to manually focus in a DSLR which has only a plain viewfinder screen without a high-accuracy "split-prism" centre. A DSLR's normal focusing screen is generally used to frame a picture, but the camera handles the focusing automatically, so critical focusing by looking at that viewfinder screen isn't usually done.When you DO want to focus manually, it can be difficult - though you wouldn't expect that! - with a DSLR's normal, bright focusing screen.The Canon 'EG-S'-type "super precision matte" screen - which is easy to swap in and out instead of the standard bright screen - allows more precise manual focusing with, for example, an f1.2 aperture.

I bought this screen for my 5D mrk2 based on research conducted. I am very into shallow field of depth photography/ photo journalistic approach and this has suited my needs perfectly. Previously, with the stock screen provided, it was almost impossible to tell how a picture would look in terms of depth but now just using looking through the viewfinder will give you a true reflection of how your picture will actually look. Excells for those too who do not wish to rely on the 5d's not so good AF system. This screen makes manual focus a real plesurable and rewarding part of your photography. I can understand how some may find the changing of the old and replacing with the new screen an anxious effort,

Although I did not buy this screen from AMAZON, I'd like to say what a difference the Canon EG-S makes to my photography. It is like viewing thru' a film camera again. I can now save battery drain by turning off auto-focusing. Off center focusing is much easier and depth of field is highly pronounced with the EG-S. As I do not have 20/20 vision, using the EG-S seems to have helped improved focus on my target. Unfortunate it means shelling out more money to improve the 5DMKII but it is one that I am glad I did. I have read comments that the focusing view is darker then the standard focusing screen but I have to say I am not as sensitive to that effect. Personally, the EG-S suits me, or should I say,

The default focusing screen used by Canon gives you a brighter viewfinder.This comes at a great cost however: You do not really see what your photo will look like.The image in the viewfinder has MUCH MUCH greater depth of field than the photo you will actually make.This makes bokeh preview impossible.It also makes manual focusing a nightmare.Especially with fast lenses.With the Eg-s, I can now focus my Zeiss lenses easily.It is also very easy to change back to the default screen when you need it.Just do it in a clean place.

A distinct improvement over the standard screen for manual focus using fast lenses. There is a reduction in viewfinder brightness, but it's more than made up for by the improvement in focus clarity. This isn't a "night versus day" stunning improvement, but focus does become a good deal easier to achieve repeatably.Very simple, fast and easy to install on my Canon 6D. Worth it if you like using older manual lenses.

It does the job well enough for manual focusing my 1.2 and 1.4 lenses but still my EOS 5D Mark II's viewfinder isn't big enough for finite focus at close range.I will still prefer a split screen for manual focus which for some reasons Canon doesn't make them anymore.Also, this focusing screen is best for large aperture lenses. If you use 2.8 or slower lenses, you will find the viewfinder very very dim.

lets you appreciate the depth of field more easily when composing your image. I use auto focus but would almost be confident enough to manually focus with this as it is very accurate. The only con is you must be extremely careful inserting it, I was and I still scratched it and had to order another one.

This is the best focus screen availible for a canon 5d2 in my opinion. It works across the screen unlike split circle focus screens. the viewfinder gets a little darker when using lenses slower than 2.8 but not much darker. highly recommended if you are using manual focus lenses.

I bought this for my 5DII to replace a focus screen I had scratched when cleaning the mirror. It fits well and works well with my 50mm f1.4. Although other reviews do say its not great with higher f stops, I have tested it and so far I have had no issues whatsoever.
