So, I've purchased several Giga T Pro units over the past year. A few for friends, and three for myself. I have raved about them for star trail and time lapse photography, and now I'm eating my words as all three of mine are out of action. FYI I only use the device as a wired remote, the wireless capability does perform well but when shooting for 3 hours plus, I prefer the peace of mind you get with a cable connection. So, onto the issues,The internal battery compartment of the transmitter is made of poor quality plastic which broke on one unit the first time I needed to change the battery. The Jack plug connection no longer works, I found what I believe to be part of the gold plated connector in the bottom of my bag.The receiver has never worked. I only get a single flash from a red light when I turn the unit on, then it goes back to sleep. The receiver of the next unit was left in the box, not used for at least 8 months. When I went to use it I realised the LCD screen has a black smear inside it. This makes it difficult to read the display. The transmitter has a very loose connection and I nearly lost it many times. It was so bad that you couldn't move the camera with it attached, in fear of it falling off. Guess what, it did, and I never saw it again. The transmitter of the third and final unit has now decided to die. It will actuate bulb exposures in the interval timer function (the only function I use) but will not close the shutter. This left my D800's shutter open for over half an hour. Had I not noticed, I am quite sure I would have left it open for much longer, potentially damaging my sensor, but definitely ruining my work and wasting my time.To summarise, what the Giga T Pro does for your photography is awesome. I loved the product 100% but now all three units have had problems I am really not impressed by the build quality. 'Pro' Usually means a product is built for rugged, daily use. The quality here does not deserve to be classed as 'Pro' in any way. If Hahnel were to reconsider the design of the unit, using better, 'pro-worthy' materials, I believe this would be the most amazing thing ever. Ever!Hahnel have agreed to look at all 3 units under their warranty. Fingers crossed.EDIT: Hahnel have now replaced all three units. Their service was excellent throughout, with good communication and prompt actions. I'm back to seeing this as a 5 star product and will continue to recommend Hahnel.

I bought the Hahnel Giga T Pro II Wireless Remote Control for Canon DSLR with Timer and Time Lapse for my Canon 600D camera as I wanted to be able to take pictures using the remote trigger function principally for night photogrpahy (I was getting camera shake). The high distance support between transmitter and receiver also looks good. I can see this being very useful in other situations. The package arrived promptly and on the day they said which is great. It was well packaged,I opened the package, starting with the receiver and all was well. It powered on fine. I set the channel, no problem. I then turned my attention to the transmitter to find it completely unresponsive. I tried and tried.Read the manual again several times but still not joy. Returning is a hassle and means another dealy before you get to use it so I took the chance of opening the transmitter to look at the battery. There was one there and it did not have a safety seal on it. Took it out. Put it back and tried again. Still no joy. I then measured the voltage of the battery to find it was less than 1 volt (Should be 3.2 volts) and it was dying the longer I measured the voltage. One trip to the shops later and with the new battery installed the transmitter worked. Maybe it was a duff battery but maybe not - I wonder how long this product has sat on the shelf before it made it to me.Once it was up and running I found it easy to single stance pictures, use Bulb mode and use the delay and repeat facility. I do have a problem getting the basic timer mode to work as the manual says. I set a time to first shot and then a number of shots but what happens is that there is a shot at the start, then it waits for the time interval before then taking the required number of pictures. The documentation implies the first picture will be after the wait period.Battery and basic timer mode issues aside it is a nice product and I am certainly happy to have purchased it. It has a quality feel to it. It is light. The backlight on the transmitter is a good idea and good at night. Countdown for a time when in BULB mode with the transmitter automatically releasing the shutter would be a good addition rather than having to manually stop after a period.I look forward to taking many pictures with it and am sure it will serve me well.

I just bought this product and the battery in the transmitter had gone dead. Not the end of the world but a bit disappointing after paying £70 and having to wait an extra day to buy a battery{£3.50 for 2 at asda}While you're at asda buy a set of opticians screwdrivers, if they still stock them, as you will need one of them to unscrew the rather small screws keeping the transmitter together.Had the product on my camera and it works ok,in fact its well made and sturdy. As stated by others the handbook is virtually useless but Hahnel do a good vid on you tube, go to the one by Hahnel industries, its the best one.So one star off for not packing the lithium battery apart{Hahnel please note}Handyproduct and am looking forward to using it.After replacing the battery I did a quick test and everything was working OK,however when I wanted to use the product a day later the battery had died again. Inserted a new battery and instead of screwing the transmitter together again, I used some duct tape for quick and easy access. I set the Hahnel up for some remote shooting then removed the battery from the transmitter, while the receiver carried on exposing away merrily. I will wait to see how long this battery lasts before I return the Hahnel for a replacement.

I bought the Hahnel Giga T Pro because I wanted a remote release for my Canon 50D and I felt that the Canon equivalent was too expensive. So far I have been very pleased with the Hahnel although I have only really used it as a remote release and I cannot therefore comment on the time-lapse and other features. It is simple to set up and works much better than the infrared Canon remote that I used with my 350D (much greater range and it works in sunshine!). It is in the attachment to the camera that Hahnel need to give this item some more thought. It is designed to sit on the hot-shoe on top of the camera - not much good if you are using an on camera flash gun or the camera's own built in flash.I has the option of attaching to a tripod - again not much good for a remote release as that is where your camera will be sitting. There is also insufficient cable to mount the unit on a separate tripod. I therefore had to modify the mount using a clip from a plastic ID badge holder so that I can clip the unit to the camera's strap - a proper clip on an item of this price should not be too much to ask for!

Now this really is a great piece of kit for professionals and amateurs alike. I've had one for a few months. It builds on the previous Pro remote model, awarded Digital Photos Gear of the Year 2009. First, it has a great range but in addition to the standard release function there is both a basic timer and an interval timer programme. These can be set for single shots or continuous bursts. Another function allows you to programme intervals of long or short exposures. I have used this device to great effect on remote cameras while shooting weddings. For landscapes and changing light it's also excellent, as an example on a clear evening set the camera on bulb, place it in a window and shoot a series of star trail images over the roof tops through the night. Wildlife, especially bird photography, is another area where it excels. Positioning and hiding the camera while triggering the shutter from a hide or inside a building will give you some great results. I don't often rave about kit but the Giga T Pro really affords photographers some first class opportunities for creative flexibility.

I was looking for a remote for my Nikon D300s mainly because just about all of my family photographs exclude the picture taker (me). I have very few photographs of my Dad for the same reason, he took the pictures. This year my wife and I are going on holiday to California and renting a Mustang to drive down the Pacific Coast Highway and over to Las Vegas and the Mojave desert. I want to be in the pictures! Rather than buy a mini tripod which looks like an ideal option but gets poor reviews in being able to support a heavy camera/lens I've bought a polystyrene bead bag. Even though I can't attach it to a tree or railings like a 'Gorilla'it holds the camera really steady. The fact that this remote is radio controlled and has various time delay and multiple shot options makes it flexible. It would be ideal for remote wildlife shots. Also, the price is excellent compared with the Nikon option which is absurdly expensive and infrared.

I already purchased the Combi TF and going by its staggering performance for price thought I'd give this a go, and I've not been let down one bit.Having stepped down from a 7K camera bag to the compact Panasonic GX1 MFT I've been blown away at how far this technology has come. Always a Canon man in all my accessories I have to admit to having been blinded for some years up until using this Hahnel kit. I just couldn't rate it highly enough. Some will give negative marks for the choice of batteries that it uses but in my opinion the cost of these is negligible, in any case, fitting AA or AAA batteries into these units would need a larger case design and the compactness is in part why these thingssing so loudly.Considering what I've paid for camera gear in the past I can't believe the price of these. If I ever damaged this I would not buy any other but the same product again. Simply amazing.

I was a little anxious after reading a review that said they broke their camera because of their choice of cable. However, upon recieving the Giga T Pro II, I called the manufacturers and made sure I was using the correct cable and everything worked perfectly. I have a Nikon D5100 and the cable that looks a bit like a square usb connection (larger of the two) is inserted into the GPS port in the camera (making sure to insert it the correct way around!). After that it was just a matter of playing around with it and figuring out the various settings, which took no more than 30 minutes. Overall I'm delighted with the product and would highly recommend it.I would also like to note that the product is a Giga T Pro II and not the Giga T Pro that is pictured (something the seller might consider changing to avoid confusion as I was tempted not to purchase because of this uncertainty).

This kit has one drawback. It works well for time elapse photography but I foolishly assumed that it would also allow single shots to be taken as with my Hahnel HW433 remote which I bought it to replace but it doesn't. It automatically shuts down after 60 secs. If you set it up so that you can activate it when say a bird lands on the perch you've carefully set up then it shuts down and you have to reactivate before you can grab the shot which usually means that the moment has quite literally flown.I spoke to Hahnel about this and they said that several people had mentioned this and that they would look at it for future models. If you want to do time lapse photography then fine but if like me you want a single shot remote release then it's not.Look around the web for the Hahnel HW433 it's still available in places and it works perectly.

If you need a programmable, wireless shutter release, look no further !As a professional photographer who loves time-lapse photography, this is an absolutely essential piece of kit.The paper instructions are a little confusing but the unit itself is very intuitive and can be easily understood with a little experimentation. The battery life is superb, I was able to shoot around 9000 images on the original battery. The ranges of features is great. It works as a wireless shutter release to reduce vibration on long-exposures. It can be used to control the camera on its 'Bulb' setting. The interval timer has 2 seperate numerical values and the combination of these can be programmed to capture a hugeamount of images. It also has a huge range of approximately 100 metres but I never stray that far from my camera in the wild !

This great little gadget is for Canon Digital SLR cameras - the 100D, 500D, 450D, 400D, 350D, 300D, 60D, 50D, 40D, 30D, 20D, 10D, 7D, 5D, 1D G10, and G11.This is for those times when pressing the shutter button is not optimal - where the movement may cause problems, or where it is useful to pose the photo with the photographer in frame. The most straightforward use is the remote trigger using the wireless connection, but as well as that there are options for interval timer (for time lapse photos), long exposure timing, etc etc. This is a small but powerful addition for which one will find lots and lots of uses.It weighs very little which is another plus point.Setting it up is simplicity itself and the camera and gadget do the rest!Highly recommended for the serious photographer!

I bought one of these for my Canon 60D based on the reviews below. I think the connector leads have been changed as mine has a small jack-plug to connect to the unit making the connection fairly solid. For me the main issue with this is the locking wheel for the hot-shoe which is quite fiddly to operate and seems not to 'lock-out' very well. The manual is in extremely small print and not particularly clear - so I echo the comments made previously in this regard. After some experimentation I have used the remote to take shots at an RSPB reserve, placing the camera in undergrowth near a feeding station. I was reasonably happy with the results I obtained after taking several practise shots. All in all I'd give this gadget 4****,and the manual 2**.Kaz

As other contributers have mentioned you have to read instructions and practice before serious use.The backlight is very poor. The command piece does switch itself off after a very short time so you have to turn it back on again before you can trigger the shutter. If you have set up the camera for wild life photos this could mean a missed opportunity. The many options are a little complicated so require a bit of forthought and practice especially at night. It works as expected with very little delay.I can't comment on battery life yet but have packed spares plus very small phillips screwdriver.I am still looking for situations to use this kit more other than long exposure shots and time lapse ofcloud movement.

This really is a brilliant little device that serves both as an intervalometer and also a wireless remote. It is really easy to use and works flawlessly probably better than any of Canons offerings despite the price difference. I marked it down one point because of the camera connector, surely a company like Hahnel can come up with a connector that locks like the one that genuine Canon products use.Mine is used on a variety of cameras including a 5D mk3 and a 7D.UpdateI'm a little confused as to why new reviews are still complaining about transmitter auto power off as this no longer happens with current models (got mine early May 2014). Perhaps the reviews are for older models?

Great piece of kit.My only complaint is that the instructions are not written for duffers! I actually had to think about this. The simple functions are intiutive, but the program repeat options take some thinking about.Pocket sized, fits in any spare hole in your kitbag. One thing I did notice from some reviews, you can insert one of the 'jump leads either way round, it will only work one way. I read the instructions (That part was clear,) so I got this right . I did note one review said two of these did not work I wondered if that was why.I bought this to try some time lapse photography, now all I need is some half decent light. (not going to happen in the UK)
