This is the Nikon specific electric remote shutter release cable. It looks like the genuine article (I bought one from a Nikon main dealer when I bought the camera), it works like the genuine article (my old one worked perfectly until I managed to close my tripod on it leaving me 2 useless halves), so my conclusion is that this is the genuine article. The button responds like the shutter release on the camera - a half press focuses the lens, pressing further takes the photo. The slide enables you to keep the shutter open as long as you want in B or bulb mode, but in normal fixed length exposure is completely unnecessary.

The action of the shutter release button on the Nikon MC-DC2 operates the same as the shutter release on the camera. The button slides forward smoothly to lock for an exposure in excess of thirty seconds. The unit has no significant weight.... I leave mine coiled suspended from the camera under no stress whatsoever.

I used to use the remote IR one, but it got broken, before it got broken I had issues with the battery too. This one is so simple to use, no battery, I don't need to tell my camera I am going to use it and it allows me to shot in continuous mode. I guess the remote one is meant for selfies.

This product is essential with Nikon's Z7 and Z6 mirrorless camera bodies which require a plug -in remote. This works, and is surprisingly cheap on E-Bay compared to prices elsewhere for the genuine Nikon item.I find it sometimes tricky to find the button, hence 4 stars.

I have been wanting one of these for a while to make night photography easier. When it arrived it was easy to set up and easy to use. A handy piece of kit which should accompany any Nikon camera. It creates better images as there is no camera shake.Thank you. :-)

I needed a remote release and hold ability ... I had tried other products but couldn't get on with them ... this satisfied my needs perfectly. I is simplicity itself with an ability to lock the shutter open. I keep this equipment permanently taped to my tripod.

It works well. I did buy a wireless remote, but found it was not compatible with a D5600 DSLR. At least with this connected to the camera physically you can always find it when it's a bit dark.

Simple to use, have found it useful. The only all gripe is that the cord is slightly short, so if you want to control from a distant it would be difficult. Otherwise it's a decent piece of kit.

Bought to work with the Nikon GP-1A which uses the hot shoe. My other Nikon is also designed to work from the hot shoe so I now have flexibility when using the GP unit.

Great piece of kit, works superbly with my D5500, easy to plug in and very easy to use. Well made should last quite a few years.Great price and speed of delivery.

So easy to use. Just plug it in to the camera and press the button. Stops camera shake when it's on a tripod and you want to take long distance shots.

I have tried other, cheaper remotes, and the Nikon I.R. remote, all were unreliable. This does the job perfectly! Would certainly recommend.

A simple to use shutter release, which does the job. Easy to attach to the camera body, which is not the case with all Nikon releases

Average price for this piece of kit is around £29.99...I paid a little over £6.00 and it's Nikon !!!Need I say more.

It works and does what it should do. From what I can tell it's an original quality product from Nikon.
