I have had this lens for about a month now and used it quite a lot, I am taking photos almost every day. I also had the previous version of this lens which was OK but didn't get that much use. The basic componentry in this lens is very similar to the STM version but this lens is a HUGE IMPROVEMENT over the previous versions. OK so I have to confess that when I do studio work I use an L series lens, and the same when I do wildlife work and also low light street work. But, and this is u huge but, I dont really want to be carrting that expensive glass around with me when I am having fun on vacations or days out. For that this lens is better than those lenses. It is extremely light and easy to pack, the image stabilisation is near silent (my L series can be a bit noisy sometimes), the huge focal range is brilliant (much better than the faster lenses). The best thing about this is the new motor, the autofocus is REALLY fast and is silent, my friends have had a go and are amazed how well this works. The build quality is pretty good for the price. I have also left my heavy expensive cameras behind and paired this with a 750d which it works great with. OK it is a cheap lens and a slow lens but the quality of photos whilst not sharp throughout is pretty good centre frame and at the 50mm to 80mm is pretty good. If you stop down a but it gets rid of the slight chromatic aberration and you can easily correct that with software. some barell distortion on horizontals at 18mm but goes away past 24mm. Its not a great lens low light which slows the focussing and softens and underexposes, but for sunny days a super lens. This is a bargain lens so not sure why not more poular, much better than the kit 18 to 50mm as it goes all the way to 135mm, which on a C sensor cropped frame is pretty useful when multiplied up by 1.6. I think if you want a cheap travel lens that will stay on your camera and give pretty decent shots then you cant go wrong.

Sharp lens especially if you stop down the aperture by two stops - best to increase the ISO on the camera by two stops (to ISO 200 or 400) & stop down the lens to f:11 to get the best result. I tested this lens against the Canon 18-55mm standard kit lens & the sharpness is identical up to 20”x16” enlargements. The image quality is almost the same as the standard 50 mm f1.8. I also have the Canon 55-250 mm STM lens & this lens is equivalent in quality also. The USM motor is quieter than the STM and focused quicker. The 18-135mm is a heavier lens than the 18-55mm but I personally prefer this rather than carrying around too many lenses which I did in the past & the wife was literally going mad with me changing lenses constantly !Not forgetting also that I was missing that once in a lifetime shot going from wide angle to telephoto in only a few seconds with just the one lens. I would throughly recommend this lens for a all round convenient/travel lens.Read full review...

I like this lens because of its universality. If I go on a walk in country or town its the only lens I need to take because of its range. The build quailty and feel of it is excellent and the range of 18-135mm covers just about all you would need on a day out.It is quite heavy I suppose, as are most good non plastic lenses but thats because of the build quality, very robust and not too much of an inconvenience.Very smooth in operation both in focussing and zoom.Highly recommended

Only had this lens one week but it is well made and lightning quick to focus. The few photo’s I’ve taken are sharp and good colour.Completely silent for the users recording video. It fells solid in the hand and heavier than my 17-85 mm.Would I recommend it? Yes based on my limited use to date.

Surpassed expectations. It's a well built lens, the focusing is fast and accurate, as is the image stabilisation. With the image correction switched on, in the camera settings, I can't fault the picture or video quality either. This combination makes taking photos and videos a joy.

Really nice lens -almost silent and very fast focusing on my D80Only had it a couple of days but I really like it as a walk around lens -18-135 is great for most of my photography.I used it yesterday at 2 National Trust gardens and am very pleased with the results.

Great mid range lens, it replaced a 85mm which went faulty after 18 months this will save me switching lens whilst on the river I was always between distants across the river.Wish Canon would cover cost for repairing broken len which has a build fault.

The 18-135 IS USM lens is superior to the standard 18-55 kit lens providing a degree of weather protection as well as extended focal length making it ideal as a Street lens for DSLR cameras. Recommended for general and beginner use.

Fantastic all in one lens for your every day snapping. A little heavier than normal kit lenses and works a treat with my Canon EOS 77D. Focusing is super quick and so quiet and has reasonable zoom length and aperture.

This is a great lens from Canon, image is sharp and you can't hear the auto focus working it's so fast when focusing on a subject , zoom is smooth and sharp, for video and stills it gets a 10 out of 10 from me.

On an aps-c body, its brilliant. Ordered the 24-70 f4L and compared side by side and the 18-135 was just as good at half the price

Took it out for a play and it was very responsive with the 18-135 I got a lot of photos, portraits & landscapes ? very happy

A great lens covering wide angle to telephoto. Great image quality and sharpness. Possibly the only lens you will ever need.

Fitted to a Canon EOS100D it makes an ideal travel companion - small and light but still with the benefits of a proper SLR
