Blood Omen 2 is very different from its Soul Reaver cousins in many respects. This is a combat/story game. There may be a few basic puzzles, but nothing like the time-consuming running around pushing blocks and lighting torches found in Soul Reaver. And yes, you do play as a vampire, and a fairly cool one at that. Rather than being mindless, blood thirsty monsters, or badly dressed Transalvanians with dodgy accents, the vampires here are aristocratic, powerful and English. You play as a young and possibly anaemic Kain, just awoken from a two century long slumber, to find himself in the oppressive, gothic-industrial city of Meridian, and you must have your revenge. You will make your way through various different settings and a twisting, mature plot completely free from altruism, with high-quality voice acting and well-scripted dialogue. This game strikes a balance however, and you'll find none of the lengthy and verbose cut-scenes that became a trademark of the Soul-Reaver games. The graphics are not great. Nor are they that bad, but rather it is the sheer atmospheric qualities of this game that help bring it to life, and you really feel like you're in the medievel version of an Orwellian police state. The combat itself can feel repetative, as you really only have one combo, and the enemies only attack one at a time, but it is the wide variety of weapons (each with their own fatality), as well as a host of different supernatural powers and a very basic form of stealth kill, that help add variety and a little spice to the combat experience. There are also many different enemies, from rival vampires and massive Seraphim knights on steroids, to lowly peasants and these large, bug-type things. Boss battles take the form of duels with other old vampires, and with each one vanquished, you gain a new ability to add to your aresnal, such a super long jumps, lightning fast attacks, telekenisis and mind-control.The main problem I have with this game, as well as the series as a whole and various other vampire based games, is water. Water burns you like acid. Whilst this is more of a game device, couldn't you just have acid? Or lava? I mean seriously, what if it started raining? This has to be one of the Vampires' best kept secrets, because all of your enemies are attacking with swords and axes, when they could just throw a bucket of water over you and be done with it!The bottom line is, this is really quite a well-conceived game, and if you're a fan of the dark and supernatural, you will love it. If, like me, you just enjoy a good, mature plot and setting, as well as playing a powerful creature, then you will probably enjoy this game. If you're looking for a 3D platform experience or you prefer simple games with childish or non-existent plot lines, then, as a previous reviewer suggests, this game is not for you.

i'm a huge fan of the lagacy of kain series, especially the original Sould Reaver and although i enjoyed Soul Reaver 2 i was dissapointed by its short length (i completed first time in 2 days). so i wasn't really expecting too much from Blood Omen 2 when i first got it, but i was presently surpirsed. The gameplay is quite different from the Soul Reaver series and harkens back much to the original Blood Omen for the ps. it may be in 3d but this is an old skool dungeon crawler with more focus on action and gore caked combat.while this could esaily have devolved into generic action/adventure territory there's a few things that keep this game (slightly) above the rest.1) being a vampire.as well as draining your foes of there blood Kain has many 'dark gifts' which are magical powers such as telekinesis, disquising as mist and magic fire etc. the use of these are satisfiying and fun aswell as adding a bit more depth to what can sometimes be straightforward levels.2) the combat is easily the best in any of the Legacy of Kain games and never gets as frustrating as Soul Reaver 2. Kain can use a variety of weapons, nasty combos and unblockable moves. once you get the hang of it the fighting if fun and the crunchy sound effects really give it a satisfying edge3) while the graphics are nothing special there is alot of attention to detail in the game. rats run in the sewers, flies flicker round the lights and (if you can hold back from killing them) peasants will converse and argue about events in the game4)this game, like the others in the series, has a great feel and atmosphere (like one level which has you in a Hell-Raiser esque prison) and many memorable characters, the best of which is Kain the debonair, slightly camp yet uncompromisingly evil anti-hero. the story line is pretty interesting and has a few twiststhat said there is terrible frame rate issues and by the time you finish it you'll never want to see another lever again in your life. most confusing of all is that Vorodor, who was beheaded in the original Blood Omen makes an unexplained reapperance some 400 years after his death. these issues while not collossal do marr the game from being a truely fantastic experience. but still Blood Omen 2 is a really fun game to get your teeth intoit might not be able to stand up against Devil May Cry 3 or God of War in action game stakes but its still worth playing especially if your a fan of the series

Blood Omen 2 has to be one of the finest action/adventure games on the PS2; from it's absolutely gorgeous gothic environments, eerie soundtrack, in-depth and compelling storyline and the best voice acting ever in a video game.Arguably, the advantage that BO2 has over the Soul Reaver games is its linear layout; i.e; starting at the beginning of a level and moving forward to the end; anywhere you're not supposed to go it won't let you, so you never get lost. The puzzles are quite challenging, but never tedious and the combat is excellent fun. Having to constantly drink the blood of both the enemies and townsfolk to survive adds an interesting challenge to the game,in a similar fashion to Raziel's Soul Devouring in the Soul Reaver games. You would probably be better to be at least aware of the storylines of the first two in the series (Blood Omen and Soul Reaver) but it isn't essential to understand the plot, it will just mean you'll have to pay more attention! Thankfully the plot of Blood Omen 2 is like a child's storybook compared to the absurdly in-depth and complex storyline of the other games in the series.Downsides? there really aren't any major faults with this game; although the ending is a little abrupt when compared to the amount of storyline that you have follow throughout.

i brought blood omen 2 for ps2 and so far i think it's the best game over the grafics are brilliant, the story is brilliant. it's fighting with a little bit of problem solving this is the first game in the lagacy of kain series id played and now im looking for the rest. its set 200 years after blood omen and about 1000 before soul reaver in the game you play kain (it so nice to play the bad guy for once) a vampire who has been defeated by the misterious sarafan lord years later he awakes his strengh and power gone his prised sword (the soul reaver) stolen and his army destoyed his rein over nosgoth over throun and vampires are dying spicies he soon descovered that some of his own kind his friends have betrayed him he must fight humans, sarafan vampires, demons and eventually the sarafan lord and gain back his strengh win back his sword and take back the throne. also when fighting you don't just have your hands and a weapon you also get magic powers like mind control setting poeple alight with your mind invisibility and so on again this is the best game i've play and i reconmend it to anyone

A really grasping game which you will not be able to tear yourself from till your eyes start to hurt. The graphics might be better on the PC, but since it's originally not a PC game, what we have is more than enough. Highly recommended for those who found Soul Reaver 2 to their liking and would like to play a similar game, but with a different approach to the process -- i.e. with no running to and fro within a limited location (however big it may be), but instead with exciting fights on your straight way forward. Some people call such straightforwardness a fault, but in case with BO2 you'll surely enjoy it.The game may be less original than Soul Reaver 2,but is by no means less interesting.

I remember playing this game when I was younger so it was great to get my hands on a copy and for a great price as well.In this game you don't play as Kain but as his brother, it's easy to follow and really fun once you get into it, I have lost many hours playing this game. Would recommend to all my friends and family if they like RPG/Action games.
