It has been a number of years since Soul Reaver was originally released. There have been a plethora of games in the intervening years, but none have had the gripping allure of The Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver.Soul Reaver ended with Raziel chasing Kain into a time portal. The game picks up a few seconds later as Raziel is pulled out of the time stream by the Time Streamer, Mobeus. Throughout the game, Raziel learns more about himself. We in turn learn with him of the anonymous winged creatures of old, conceive suspicions of The Elder God and learn more of the nature of the Soul Reaver, Raziel's terrible soul-devouring entity, eternally bound to him.The story of Soul Reaver 2 continues on perfectly from Soul Reaver as if they had been mapped out together. As the years have passed, graphical power of computers have increased and as such games can present a much more lush environment. We are using our imaginations less and less and letting the game present the realistic environment for us - not so with Soul Reaver 2. The graphics are lush, but the story is so expertly written that it inspires the player to think about what could happen in later games of the series. The story ties in with all the other Legacy of Kain games, although because there is time-travel involved in Soul Reaver 2, it's difficult to play them as one long game. And Soul Reaver 2 is a LONG game. There aren't as many block puzzles as in Soul Reaver, but there are puzzles -- albeit slightly simpler than Soul Reaver's. You don't need to know what things look like in spectral a lot of the time (but it helps!).If you're thinking of buying this game as the first in your Legacy of Kain collection, I strongly suggest you buy _at least_ the original Soul Reaver: you'll feel a lot more confident with the story elements once you have more than the cursory cinematic insight into Kain & Raziel's battle provided with SR2.If you're thinking of buying the game and you've bought a previous Legacy of Kain game why are you reading this? You know the high quality of these games. Buy now!As with many Legacy of Kain games, the story is VERY linear. This isn't too bad since the storyline is so expertly crafted. Unfortunately there ARE some times when you feel like you're just in a big coridoor shooter: your movements outside a room blocked until you defeat whatever Generic Evil Monster(tm) you're confronted with. The rewarding cutscenes between Raziel and the various characters are worth enduring this sporadic boxing in: as usual the voice acting is of sterling quality and Raziel's eyes betray a lot of emotion (that's quite an achivement for two white triangles!).Don't look for a lot of closure, though. This game ends with more of a teaser than Soul Reaver!

I won't bore you with a big long review but I'll say this:-The game is a fantastic follow up to the original with a smooth progressing storyline. All the new reaver abilities are a nice addition and their are a a few new ways to kill your opponent whilst armed with a weapon. On the down side though combat is a little too easy and if you've played soul reaver before you might find, like I did, that the game is a little on the easy side. There are no real bosses as such until the end of the game and even then their not much of a challenge. Plus there are a lot of movie scenes in the game and whilst they add to the storyline, you'll be twiddling your thumbs if you've seen them before as you can't skip them and they tend to be on the long side.Well if this hasn't put you of then I recommend that you give this a look. A great game but don't expect it to last for ages if you're a soul rever veteran.

This game is everything I expected but by no means dissapointing. I have as yet been unable to get hold of my own copy but through various contacts I have seen enough to be impressed. The graphics have been boosted but it remains generally true to its original medievil gothic athstetic established in the in the prequil. The storyline (although I was only allowed a limited insight) is a continuation of the already cult brilliant storyline of the first few games. Game play is simmilar to Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver but with a few new twists, as one would expect. I can't wait for this stunning sequal, advance order it now be forever damned!

The graphics on the game are excellent, even with a minimum spec computer. I was expecting the graphics to be jumpy but they were excellent. The only problem with game are the unskippable movies which drag on and you have to reach save points to save the game, which is very frustrating.
