There seems to have bee a recent trend towards the use of wrist-mounted devices for monitoring blood pressure. While these seem more convenient to use they can be a little fiddly to get the right arm position in relation to the user's heart. The offering, from Beurer, is a traditional upper arm blood pressure monitor. While this can be a little more time consuming to use, rolling up sleeves etc. in my experience this type of monitor offers more consistent results. The monitor, which measures 134 x 102 x 52.5mm, is manufactured from a quality white plastic. On the front is a 70 x 77mm backlit LCD display below which are 3 buttons for setting the device up and accessing the memory function, while below these is a single large on/off button. Running up the left hand side of the display are 6 LED's which indicate the your blood pressure level on a World Health Organisation scale so you can quickly see if you need to be taking medical advice. On the left hand side of the machine is the connector for the upper arm cuff while on the base is the battery compartment cover for 4 x 'AA' batteries, supplied.Setting up the machine is very straightforward, insert the batteries, power the machine on and set the date and time. Wrap the cuff around your left arm as described in the brochure and attach it to the monitor. Press the on/off button, the pump motor starts and the cuff inflates. If you've never had your blood pressure taken by this method before be warned, the cuff will exercise a tight grip on your upper arm until is slowly starts to deflate. When the cuff has fully deflated the display will show you upper and lower pressures along with your pulse rate. One of the LED's on the left will display your blood pressure by the WHO rating. You can then memorise your reading or delete it. The machine allows for 4 different users to monitor their blood pressure and each can memorise their own particular results. The multi-language booklet that is supplied with the machine comes with some extremely useful tips on getting the best out of the monitor and interpreting the results and really should be read before using the machine. All in all a very good product.

Having previously used a model that measures at the wrist I obviously find this one less convenient, but given that there's ongoing respect for this classic type (after all, they haven't been replaced in GPs and hospitals), you feel more assured in using it; and it isn't such a cumbersome unit.I've never heard of Beurer before but this is really a quality unit. English may not be the language given first preference on the packaging and documentation but that's the only minor flaw for UK buyers. The LCD display is huge (and illuminates blue), so this is a no-brainer for those with visual impairment. Even without looking at the manual it's relatively clear how you operate it,the big button will do the central deed once you've put the cuff on. And the standard size cuff is easy for someone to apply to themselves thanks to a metal loop which holds it to the position you stretch it to before you've fastened the Velcro. You can buy a larger cuff if needs be (official accessory).Measurement is a little bit faster on this than on my wrist monitor and results aren't too different to what I've seen (which praises both that wrist monitor and pretty much confirms this and that as generally reliable). Where I like this more is that 4 AA batteries (included) are seen to offer 500 measurements, whereas I've only got 60 from 2 AAs on my other monitor. I'll see how this fares but so far so good. The BM 47 also detects cardiac arrhythmia which can be a really useful addition given how this is a pressing problem that is often noticed when it's too late. You also get a zip carry case which makes it almost not bad to travel with. The price is also very bargain compared to some of the competition without feeling back-of-the-lorry.There's also a blood pressure report card and space for 120 memories on the unit (30 per 4 people/banks), you can also see a calculation of average total/morning/afternoon measures. It measures pulse too, of course. If I'd paid for this out of my own pocket I couldn't find any fault with it. Very thoughtfully designed and actually a joy to use for a medical instrument.

High blood pressure runs in my family, and while generally I don't think it affects me (at least not yet), I am aware I should keep an eye on it. Of course finding time to go to the doctors is difficult, and when I DO go and get a normal BP reading, it doesn't really enforce my compulsion to go again...So when offered the chance to try this, and do a bit of self monitoring I jumped at it.The unit takes 4x AA batteries, so is completely portable. Rechargeable would have been preferable I think, but certainly its better than corded. The band is simply attached by the airline to the unit, and once the batteries are in, its ready to go; you just need to set the time and date (if you want to)Operation is an extremely simple on/off action - just cuff up,press the big round button, and wait while the cuff squeezes your arm to death. After about a minute your BP readings are shown nice and clear on the large LCD screen; showing your Systolic (top number; the pressure your heart pumps blood at), Diastolic (lower number; the "resting" pressure of your blood in the arteries between heartbeats), your pulse and the time and date stamps. Where this one beats out an old one I used to have is the "WHO" bar up the side, which shows a green, yellow or red light depending on your reading (the lower down the scale the light, the better your BP)There is also a chart for you to refer to for your blood pressure which gives top line guidance on whether you should "self monitor" or "seek medical attention".You can also apparently set profiles in... but I never bothered with that, its easier to keep a record if you need toIn short - if you need or want to self monitor your BP, this is an awesome machine. Just so long as you consider that IF your BP does show high, you should go to the doctors rather than try to self diagnose!

This is a very simple, accurate and above all easy to use blood pressure monitor. Beurer sells a comprehensive range of health support products which are able to help the lay user to monitor anything from BP, to weight and body mass, to the number of paces/steps of exercise when walking. The major benefit of this particular device is the ability to memorise ones sequence of readings and make comparisons of trends in ones blood pressure - fluctuations up and down (more of the latter one hopes!).The display is well lit and easy to read especially for slightly older eyes such as my own, where size and clarity makes all the difference.I have only minor gripe and that relates to the arm cuff (the bit that inflates when taking the blood pressure),Arm cuffs can all feel quite restrictive, but in some cases, one has to be very careful when putting the cuff on the arm as just in this case the cuff when it inflates will press a hard edge of the cuff against the users arm. This can be very painful, and on the two occasions that this happened when testing the machine, it most certainly was. I would recommend that one is very judicious in establishing exactly the way the cuff should be fitted before using the machine. I would certainly not rush the process of fitting the cuff, and so in this sense it is not a speedy device to use.Despite the issues with the cuff, I cannot really recommend this device highly enough; for the cost it is a real bargain and well worth buying if for you it is important to have an accurate BP monitor.

This has a large and easy to read display that illuminates blue when in use. A gauge down the side will indicate if your blood pressure is good to bad. And it will keep up to 30 readings for 4 people and show the average for each. It measures both blood pressure and pulse and will also warn you if you have an irregular heart beat (though it can be set off if you have normal sinus arrhythmia). It is simple to use, insert the supplied 4x AA batteries, plug in the cuff, wrap this around your left arm and press go. You will need to follow the instructions to get the best readings and to put the cuff on the right way around. This is an ideal way of keeping a check on your blood pressure.Having it done outside the home can cause elevated readings, at home you can be completely relaxed, take as many readings as you like and get a much better picture of the state of your blood pressure. The meter is pretty accurate. My readings have been matching my current device and what my GP has recorded. I would highly recommend a unit such as this for monitoring your blood pressure. It can creep up regardless of how fit you are and you won't feel any side effects. I used to think mine was great because I am fit and I have a low resting pulse rate, but my blood pressure is slightly elevated and thankfully it has been picked up in time for me to do something about it in terms of lifestyle changes without resorting to medication. In cases of your blood pressure, ignorance is NOT bliss

German company Beurer are a huge brand in the health and well-being sector and I expected this to be a good product - it did not disappoint. With a large, clear illuminated display, it is simple to see your readings as well as your pulse and blood pressure readings. The upper arm cuff is simple to use and automatically inflates, the unit itself can record up to 60 readings for 2 different users so you can analyse a period of time to see for fluctuations on improvements. The touch-sensor enables you to switch between users and means you can get the average value of readings over the previous 7 day period.A nice feature is a WHO (World Health Organisation)indicator to give you an instant comparison to a guideline for good blood pressure is and can also detect arrhythmia to alert you to a possible heart rhythm disturbance. This unit includes two sizes of arm cuffs:Standard size fits biceps 8.7" to 11.8" (22 cm to 30 cm)Large size fits biceps 11.8" to 16.5" (30 cm to 42 cm)This device is intended only for personal, non-commercial, adult use in measuring blood pressure and pulse rate.Unit Size 94 x 122 x 53 mm and approx 230g - Powered by 4 x 1.5v AA batteries. In the box the unit with storage pouch, instruction manual,4x AA batteries and the cuffs (standard and large)

If you are looking to invest in a device like this then you could scarcely do better than the BM 47. It is very well made, comes complete with its own carrying case and features a blue digital display which is very easy to read with its large black numerals. It is very easy to use with a proper explanation of the set up in the manual (a minor miracle these days). It has a memory which allows you to store the readings of 4 different people (a maximum of 4x30 readings can be stored at one time). The cuff is of generous size in the range 22-35cm and only people with very thin arms may find it a little loose fitting. It offers accurate measurements of upper and lower blood pressure readings, pulse rate and has the ability to warn you if there are irregularities in your heartbeat. I want to make it clear that this is not a difficult machine to operate requiring only the attaching of the cuff to the arm and the pressing of one button and will be a boon for those who need to monitor and store their readings over a period of time for diagnostic purposes. It comes complete with batteries which are conserved by the automatic switch off facility and has a three year guarantee. Strongly recommended.

This is very impressive. It is far more compact than my Omron M10 unit and gives enough information to decide if you need to consult your GP. The unit is easy to use. It will keep separate data on two people. You can send data to a mobile via bluetooth, too. I This is very impressive. However, there is no mention of length, and I find them all too long to fit my upper arm as per the instructions. They come right down to the inner elbow joint. I have no idea whether this affects the accuracy.

This is a good BPM, simple to set up and use. The main advantage over the cheaper BM44 model is that this can store 30 readings each for 2 people in the memory - quite handy if you want to take an average over 7 days. It would be great if this had blue tooth - so it linked to the Beurer app to store readings - but you have to move up the model range to get that. The only tricky aspect of taking a BP reading with this is getting the cuff on right (and then making sure you are sitting in the right position in terms of resting your arm). There is only one size cuff provided - but a larger is available as an extra cost option. If like me you are at the upper end of the range for upper arm size I suggest you measure up before you buy. There are other machines for around this price that include the larger cuff.Taken over all this is a quality machine that should give years of service for an OK if not exceptional price.

This is a fantastic piece of equipment. A home blood pressure monitor has been on my list for a while, and this fits the bill perfectly. It is small, portable, quick to set up and extremely easy to use. I had the batteries (provided in pack) in, and the unit set up in a matter of minutes. Next to a first use, and I put the cuff on a little akwardly so there was some discomfort for the short time it takes. Subsequently I have placed the cuff with a little more care and find it is extremely comfortable in use.Battery life has not been even a remote concern just yet. It certainly seems to pump out a lot of power for such a small unit, but the 4 AA batteries cope admirably. This is the kind of item that should grace every home.Highly recommended.

This is a simple and easy to use BP and pulse monitor. The cuff us wrapped around the upper arm, and the button is pressed to inflate. The cuff then tightens around the arm and then slowly deflates. On completing deflation, the user is provided with their blood pressure and pulse readings. The monitor indicates whether you should seek further advice based on the recorded blood pressure. It's hard to know exactly how accurate this monitor is; the only way to tell for sure is to test it against a calibrated blood pressure machine. But if you've had your BP measured by a health care professional (so you know roughly what it is), and you are keen to monitor it at home, then this machine is perfect.

This is the best blood pressure monitor out of 3 we have tried recently. For my mum this is a big time saver comparing to the manual pump one she had before. It can also store 30 readings for 4 different people, has large illuminated display and bold, easy to read font - so important for those who can't see so well.Except for blood pressure the monitor check heart beat and can detect arrhythmia. It uses 4 AA batteries (provided), additionally it comes with handy black storage pouch.

Very impressed with this and can atest to the fact that the system is very accurate. I'm diabetic and regularly have my blood pressure monitored by the Doctor. when I had this done the day previously the results were identical. I also do what the doctor does which is I do it 2-3 times to make sure I am getting a consistent reading and not a one statistical out lier.
