There is a lot spoken of stroke, heart attack, diabetes etc and this review is not meant to make comment in that regard, however, if you wish to monitor a small element of your own body, you may wish to consider purchasing this item. I am hypertensive and until recently was overweight and in a stressful job: perfectly poised for the diseases I mentioned and therefore the opportunity to review one of these items as part of the Amazon Vine programme was an opportunity not to miss. I have just changed job from a stressful to a more relaxed role and wish to discuss with my GP reducing my dosage of one drug and discontinuing the other. What better way to persuade him/her than with providing some data for them to consider.SETUP======The item arrived and first things first, I was impressed by the case (it keeps everything nice and compact, the latex free cuff (my wife reacts badly to latex) and the machine itself, which needs 4 AA batteries, which are also supplied and you can purchase an optional mains transformer. Setup was simple, but does require you to read the manual, which is very clear and easy to follow.OPERATION==========It takes practice and following the manual to ensure that you record an accurate blood pressure reading. Following that it is just a simple process of registering the reading into the memory which accommodates records for two people. The process is simple to follow after the first recording. May I say at this stage that my only criticism of the manual is in regard to the table which describes the parameters for "range of blood pressure values"; might is suggest that this is a generic table and takes no count of age, levels of activity and weight. I particularly like the backlit display, which makes a clear screen even clearer. There is a function which the system claims to be able to detect arrhythmia (heart rhythm abnormality) the system did not detect this in any of my readings but thankfully does suggest that anyone for whom this is displayed on the screen should seek the advice of their doctor.RECORDING===========Providing that you take the reading and record it in memory, the system will secure up to 60 readings for both of the individuals using it, enough for a month testing twice per day, or whatever your health professional suggests. Recall of measurements is simple and can either be recovered from the machine itself, or recorded in an app on a mobile phone, tablet or PC.ADVICE=======Might I suggest that if you are worried about your blood pressure, your general health or simply wish a health check? Contact your local GP surgery and arrange to see one of the nursing team, either a nurse or a healthcare assistant. They will undertake a health check for you free of charge and assess your blood pressure, BMI etc and can advise you on whether you need to purchase an item such as this. Certainly in my case, as a retiring health professional who is hypertensive, this item is ideal for me to monitor myself and at the price of less than £30.00 offers exceptional value for a well constructed and accurate machine. One other thing to consider is that this manufacturer has an established presence in Germany where individuals appear to take more interest in their personal healthcare and therefore it has an established base in Europe if not in the UK.RECOMMENDEDUpdate1 week in and the item is working well. Really pleased that it appears to record my data allowing me and my wife both to record our BP. WE ARE NOT OBSESSIVE ABOUT THIS BTW, but we felt that if I were able to review this item thoroughly, I needed to test it to its full. Suffice to say, it works really well. One month in, 3rd September 2015 and the monitor continues to work well. My wife has ceased using it now, but as a hypertensive I will continue to use this monitor, albeit not daily but on a regular basis just to confirm that my medication and weight loss regime are having the desired effect.

The Beurer Blood Pressure Monitor, model BM45, is surprisingly fully automatic. All that is necessary is to fit the cuff over the arm, either left or right, adjust for comfort, then press the start button. The machine takes over, gently pumping air into the cuff to the correct inflation and after taking blood pressure and pulse measurements, it slowly releases the pressure. The operation can be cancelled instantly at any time by pressing the start-stop button again. The results are then displayed on the screen… Systolic Pressure, Diastolic Pressure, and Pulse Rate per minute. It is very similar to the blood pressure equipment which doctors and nurses use everyday in surgeries and hospitals. It is not large, and everything fits quite compactly into a zipped pouch, 8 x 4 in, which is provided for storage. This piece of equipment enables one to monitor one’s blood pressure at home, and because it has a memory incorporated into the electronics, it stores the blood pressure measurements in a data base which one can retrieve and view. If you want to know your average blood pressure over the last 7 days, it can display that measurement for you. The maximum number of measurements recorded and stored are 60, after which the oldest measurement is lost, one at a time. Because 2 people can jointly use the equipment, there is in fact a 2 x 60 measurement memory. To use the memory, it is necessary first to set the date and time, otherwise the memory will not know the date and time when you first started to use it. It is a fairly simple process to set the date-time, which is displayed on the screen. This setting is flexible, and the date-time can be re-set again in future if necessary. For longer term recording, a booklet is provided in which one can write down the blood pressure measurements for posterity. The instrument is able to detect and identify cardiac arrhythmia disorder (ie abnormal heart rhythm, abnormal heart beat) and a flashing light icon will alert one to this. Both excessively slow, and excessively fast, heart rates are drawn attention to. A useful feature.Beurer claim the equipment is accurate to 2 to 3% for blood pressure which works out about 3 mm Hg (Mercury), and 5% accuracy for pulse rate. It is powered by 4 x 1.5 volt batteries which are included. The batteries last for about 250 measurements and will then need replacing. The machine can run on mains power, but a 6 volt DC adaptor-transformer would be required, which is not supplied, but can be purchased as a separate item, or alternatively use one of your own, if you already have one. They are readily available and not expensive. Probably, Beurer should have included one in the kit. The cuff size is adjustable from 22 to 36 cm, which should meet the dimensions of most arm thicknesses, but someone with very large arms may require the XL cuff, which is available as an optional extra. The kit requires very little cleaning and maintenance. The guarantee lasts for 3 years only, 5 years would have been more reassuring.Overall: Well made, with a modern appearance, appears to be of good quality, easy to operate, accurate and reliable. A very useful piece of home medical equipment, and good value for the relatively modest price.

Recently I began using a wrist mounted blood pressure monitor and liked the convenience that it offered. This one from Beurer needs to be used on the upper arm which might not be so convenient but this style can offer more reliable readings and it certainly has a bigger screen. In fact I think the large, clear screen is one of its better features as it's so easy to read. It's also quite easy to use and when read carefully the instructions are also quite comprehensive which makes a very nice change. I like the fact that it comes complete with a handy storage pouch too and even has a set of batteries, although to be fair they are a cheap brand and the battery indicator shows a low level of charge on mine already (the replacements are 4x AA size). In terms of accuracy I find that it gives very consistent results which closely match the other monitors that I have access to so I am happy that it can be relied upon. It is noticeable that the actual tests take longer with this model (around 90 seconds compared to 55 seconds on the

My father-in-law has just come out of hospital and high blood pressure was one of the things they were worried about so it was quite timely for us to try this out. First impression is that it's good. Really clear LCD and straightforward operation (put it over your bicep, press the on button). I also have quardio monitor and comparing the readings between the two were no more/less than the variation you would get when you take multiple readings with the same device over a few minutes - so there is no reason for me to doubt the numbers. You have a feature that allows you to store data over time for two users, so the mother-in-law is going to be watching her BP too. Good bit of kit, reassuring to have in the home.

The readout has large backlit numerals and an indicator for when arrhythmia is detected. Sixty readings are stored in two memories – one each for two people - and can show the average for seven days or all of the readings. Inflation varies automatically to suit the blood pressure being measured. The cuff is comfortable and marked as free from latex.Accuracy is quoted as plus/minus 3 mm Hg for systolic and diastolic and, plus/minus 5% of the pulse measurement. It is stated as complying with an EU Medical Devices Directive and an EN Standard. It takes four AA batteries that should last for approximately 250 measurements.

This certainly appears to be of very good quality and is perfect for home use. It packs into a zipped bag, runs on 4 AA batteries(provided), and it is as simple as fitting it onto your arm and pressing the button. The numbers are very easy to read, and the size of the strap will fit the biggest arm. The booklets provided are numerous - telling you everything you`ll need to know to read the numbers, understand and interpret them, and then act upon them - do nothing, see your doctor, consult mortician etc. Very impressive.

Nice looking and easy to use monitor. The display is very clear and as well as the numbers you get a nice traffic light warning system. The unit itself is solid and sturdy and comes with a carry pouch. To operate you'll need 4 AA batteries which aren't included.I'm pretty happy with this, but some of the other reviews have cast doubt on it's accuracy. As I have nothing to callibrate this against I can't really comment.

Good, value for money. Accurate readings. I don't need to visit my GP weekly to check my BP. i BOUGHT this product because am on the boundary line of been a BP patient. Now, am able to monitor what I eat, visit gym 3 times a week. The downside is that am unable to set the clock. The manual is useless.I rate this product 3 star.

This device has a lovely big, clear screen with a back-light. Extremely easy to read. I like the fact that it stores your reading with a time stamp and will show the average reading. A little annoying that it forgets everything, including the time, when you change the batteries. Otherwise, very solidly build and easy to use.

Large display, easy to read. Could do with more detailed explanations when E2, E4 etc displayed after pressure suspended.
