As a young man, I used to run 2 half marathons every week: one on Monday, and the other on Thursday. Every now and again, I'd bring the two runs closer slowly until I would run a full marathon mid week. There were the weekend party binges and raving all night (this was 1990 Manchester so I'll leave you to work out what was keeping me going all night...), but apart from that, I lived a healthy life. So, on reaching my mid forties without a beer belly or diabetes, never smoking, having made only two visits to the hospital in my life, and getting to my forties without any kids (but in a stable and happy 17 year relationship), I assumed that although I hadn't really exercised much in the last few years,I hadn't done anything bad for health/stress so must be relatively ok for fitness.Bad move...On an unrelated visit to the doctors last year, it turned out I had a blood pressure of 210 over 185. That's a death warrant if untreated quickly and was a shock for a number of reasons, more so because I always assumed high blood pressure was something that you would feel or know you had (because you could feel your heart pounding or were stressed or something). But no, you will not detect it at all.I was put on tablets (which I have to take for the rest of my life now), and because blood pressure is not something you can readily feel yourself, I needed something to keep an accurate eye on my pressure. I originally started with an upper arm monitor, but on seeing this wrist version which stops you having to roll up your sleeve right up or taking your top off (not a big deal for most people, but it is if like me you want to check every other day!) I had to have it, and I'm very pleased with it.Best thing about it is that it packs into a small box, exactly three inches square, that fits easily in my car glove compartment or work bag. The fact that it fits on the wrist means I can use it in the car/train/wherever with minimum fuss and without standing out, which makes me much more likely to use it regularly.Today I am at an ideal blood pressure, and I check often with this monitor. It's a life saver in more ways than one: saves time over an upper arm monitor, and is also a life saver in a literal sense.Others around me have not been as lucky. Three weeks ago, the minibus driver for my mum's pensioners club tripped after complaining of feeling cold for a few hours before. He never got back up. This was caused by high blood pressure. He was in his early 40s with a young family.6 months ago it was a lorry driver that I vaguely knew from a friend of a friend. Again, nobody saw it coming, and everybody was surprised: he wans't the fittest person, but he certainly didn't seem to be at deaths door. But he was. That's what high blood pressure does: the slightest clot can become a stroke, and a heart attack becomes much more likely. Worst of all, along with diabetes, this is not even unusual anymore. So if you are in your forties, consider buying one of these and use it once a month. Out of all the other healthy fads you may take up - keep fit, drinking lots of water, quitting smoking, aerobics, whatever, this is the one health choice that can literally save your life. If, like me, you have already been diagnosed with high blood pressure, you really don't want to wait for your 6 month check-up to see whether your blood pressure is still under control: you need to keep an eye on it yourself, because this is not a game and you need to be sure. This monitor is one of the most portable and quickest to use. That's very important because that will encourage you to use it often.

Omron products are often to be seen in most pharmacies and previously included other health-related monitors. A heart rate monitor remains in the range but many of their devices are now leisure-related and include pedometers and electro-therapy devices. Although originally rather expensive, the devices have become far simpler to use and far more affordable in recent years. This one is powered by 2 AAA provided batteries which fit within a compartment located on one edge. If used once or twice a week, the batteries should suffice for a year or more. The cuff here is part fixed and part flexible. It will fit over most wrists although a watch, bracelet or similar jewellery may first need to be removed or loosened in order to obtain a good fit and the best location, which should always be on the inside of the wrist and above the pulse point. This is a tool which may help many people with hypotension or hypertension issues (low/high blood pressure). Whilst it may reduce the need for several visits to the doctor or a health centre for a blood pressure check, the device should not be used to provide a definitive reading but only as a guide or to indicate trends of rises and falls. If readings obtained from the device are consistently unusually high or low, I would strongly suggest a medical appointment although it may be more due to incorrect usage than a serious medical issue, but the assurance is satisfying. A doctor would also be better able to interprete the results and to diagnose and respond to any problems, should they exist. You may be allowed to cross-check the readings from the device against those obtained by a medical professional with properly calibrated medically-approved equipment.Positioning on the wrist needs to be correct and consistent and the device should be roughly level with the heart during readings. Not everyone knows exactly where that is and that could lead to reading errors. As a test, and I know what my blood pressure is normally and just how consistent it is over long periods of time, I took a reading with the device slightly improperly positioned and obtained a reading so high that were it correct I would be seriously ill and in need of urgent medical attention. Adjusting the position and starting again, I obtained a reading that was close to expectations. Reassuring that all is still well! However, it should be borne in mind that medical devices are normally calibrated at regular intervals and this probably would not. Just how reliable this will be over some years and after repeated battery changes is yet to be seen. Omron may provide a calibration service for their devices, but they would involve a fee and some time.Affordable and hopefully reassuring when correctly positioned and used, but possibly not 100% accurate long-term.

Omron RS2 Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor for me is a very useful item to have in the home, especially if you have any members of your family which suffer from High Blood Pressure (Hypertension). This is a good device but I have one small complaint unless you follow the instructions to the precise letter you will get a wrong reading for one main reason the machine is very sensitive. The machine must be held direct level to your heart and your arm must be held as the diagram shows, though if you are getting a blood pressure reading at a medical center this is the exact same way they get you to hold your arm for them to get a correct reading. So therefore the makers are following medical professionals,so using this properly i.e. as explained in the instructions provided you will get a good estimate of your blood pressure. The actual working of the machine is simple as all you have to do is press a button for the machine either to start or stop as well as giving a reading of your blood pressure it will also give you your heart reading. The machine will also state whether or not your blood pressure is irregular in anyway. The machine is made to a very neat design and I do like how it comes with a white plastic container to store your monitor which will also keep it in a good condition.I do like how having this monitor in the home as you are able to keep an eye on your blood pressure and in today's active world your blood pressure does give you a good indication on your general health. I would recommend this to be particularly useful in conditions such as pregnancy or for the simple act of having it in your first aid kit. There is so many ways this monitor will be useful to have in your home and therefore I do believe it will pay for itself within a couple of uses, as there is nothing more precious than your health. As the old saying goes "your health is your wealth", so anything which will give you reassurance within your home regarding your health is a good purchase in my personal opinion.I like having this machine in the home for one reason that it does provide me with reassurance and if the member of my family who does suffer badly from high blood pressure is feeling ill I can quickly check his blood pressure which will be a good indicator whether or not I need to get him medical attention. The actual maker Omron is a very highly regarded producer of medical devices especially Blood Pressure Monitor and I do like the fact that they provide machines such as this at a good price for customers such as myself.I highly recommend the Omron RS2 Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor to anyone who suffers from either high or even low blood pressure, or even for the simple act of having reassurance in the home is enough reason to have it within the home.

THe RS2 comes with it's own hard plastic storage case, to protect it when not in use, batteries were easy to insert and then you're off. The instructions were reasonably detailed although they were that awful roadmap style where you end up with an oversized flimsy sheet of paper to wrestle with until you get used to everything. No chance of just flipping to the page you need without any effort.Beyond that, my only issue with the instructions is that there's no chart or guide for understanding the readings. If you aren't sure what your optimal readings should be, you're going to have to trawl the internet or medical books to work it out.I'd have expected a chart in the instructions so new users can cross-reference the reading they got with the readings they should aim for.The unit itself was very easy to use, position on the wrist, hold your wrist up to be around the same level as your heart and press the start button.I had heard that wrist monitors were potentially less accurate than arm monitors, but I was getting approximately the same readings with this as I was with my older arm monitor (also Omron) but trying to fit this one handed was so much easier than trying to fit the arm monitor unaided. As with any monitor, it is recommended that they be returned to the manufacturer for recalibration at regular intervals (every 2 years according to the instructions). I can understand the purpose of this, but it's something to bare in mind, most people don't expect a blood pressure monitor to have "running costs" other than a set of batteries.Reasonably priced and easy to use I'd say this monitor was a good buy and more practical than arm cuffs if you're trying to fit it to your own arm. You do need to be very precise with the placement of the cuff and the position of the arm during the test or results can be erratic and somewhat worrying.

The OMRON RS2 Intelli sense WRIST BLOOD PRESSURE MONITOR is a must have for anyone who needs an easily accessible way of taking your blood pressure. We had used the same manufacturers type of meter on the upper arm but this was considerably easier to use. The only difference is to keep the wrist at the same height as the heart during use.On opening the package the instructions and container are easily accessible. It is vital to read the instructions first as they are logically set out and easily understandable. The symbols on are easy to recognise as are the very useful safety information being concise and useful.Opening the plastic case, which is compact, is quite stiff until you press on the indentation to release the catch.Easy access to battery compartment though it could be limiting for arthritic sufferers. Once installed the monitor is ready to go.Again following the instructions for an accurate reading, regarding the positioning of the wrist monitor, hand and arm it is just a matter of pressing the on switch and off it goes. As a patient, my blood pressure is monitored regularly and the monitor results compare very well with my doctors figures so as to give me reassurance in between visits. The memory switch is also useful for a limited overview of results over a period of days. There are features that give warnings when in use, for example when the heart is beating abnormally or the monitor is not correctly positioned.I find this product less cumbersome than my usual blood pressure monitor and is so compact for easy storage. I am delighted with it and would not hesitate to recommend this to my family and friends.

The Omron RS2 is very compact, easy to use and comes with a good pedigree. It seems very small relative to the Braun B.P. monitor that I had previously, but works fine and is easy to use.I compared my own B.P. against readings taken with an Omron M2 upper arm cuff device and found the wrist monitor under-read by about 4mmHg each time. So, as long as you calibrate it against an arm cuff monitor, it would be fine - and, a bit like the bathroom scales, good for spotting an upward trend in blood pressure that might signify a problem.Apparently small errors in height relative to your heart position can influence the readings, and the wrist monitors are more susceptible to that error. The nurse at my GP practice was quite happy for me to take this along and compare it with their 'gold standard' instrument. The RS2 is not currently on the list of approved devices on the British Hypertension Society's web page (which my doc told me to look at before buying one) but it may be there by the time you read this. But here's the rub: for years I couldn't stand the weird feeling that goes with the upper arm B.P. monitors, and could only face a wrist device. If you're the same, this is definitely better than not checking your blood pressure at all, and it's easy to factor in the "fudge" needed to correct the reading upwards or downwards as necessary.

This Omron blood pressure monitor is a simple, but effective piece of home health equipment. It pays to read the enclosed information before you use this for the first time so you know you are using it correctly and to get the most accurate readings. Once you have done this, it is easy to fit to the wrist and position and whilst the tight feeling it applies is mildly alarming the first time you use it, you soon get used to it and it is nothing excessive. The readings are clear and legible and the various numbers are explained in the enclosed booklet. The batteries last a long time and the storage box is neat and sturdy. This also gives a warning if it isn’t positioned correctly so you can achieve the optimum readings. You are also able to save past readings so you can compare.A home monitor of this kind is good to keep an eye on your pressure in the long term and it also prevents the bias that occurs from the stress some people feel when having their pressure measured at a Dr’s office. All in all this is a reliable and easy to use piece of equipment and is beneficial to monitor your health and blood pressure whether you are an athlete or not. It is also reasonably priced, so good value for money.Feel free to check out my blog which can be found on my profile page.

I have various heart rate monitors, as I do not really want to rely on one unit. I honestly think that even where there is no history of high blood pressure, these units could detect the onset of any problems. I do find that the Beurer and Omron wrist monitors are very reliable, affordable units. I usually compare the readings using a Riester upper arm blood pressure monitor at regular intervals. The Omron RS2 does not have any internal memory where you can check blood pressure trends during the day, yet it focuses on irregular heartbeat, apart from blood pressure. So this monitor should pick up arrhythmia, which is an irregular rate or rhythm of the heartbeat... a very useful feature indeed.Being a wrist monitor,it is of utmost importance to follow the instructions well, specifically in the use of fully charged batteries, keeping the monitor at heart level during measurement and to wear loose clothing. This applies to all wrist monitors. The advantages of the wrist monitor over the upper arm ones are the ease of use, yet the latter would give more precise results.Do not wait until you are diagnosed with some heart related problem prior to purchasing a good pressure monitor. These monitors should by no means replace regular check ups at the doctor or hospital.

This machine will allow you to get a fairly accurate reading of your blood pressure and heart rate, and will memorise the last few readings to allow you to get a trend or average over the course of a few days. It does this with a minimum of fuss, and fits almost every wrist from my children's very small ones right up to my full size. Comparing the results to a properly calibrated and medically fitted machine the Omron is accurate enough for most home users. However, a couple of points I noticed. If you do not fit the device quite right, the readings can be alarmingly erroneous - I managed to get a reading of 210/80 a minute after my normal 140/80.This was simply because the cuff had rotated a little and the sensor must have missed my vein. People should also be aware that blood pressure varies throughout the day, and that your posture when taking it can also have a big impact. Therefore use this device in the same place and at the same time every day if you are needing to get a trendy of your BP.Despite the minor points above this machine does what it is required to do with the minimum of fuss.

This is an excellent product - it is neat and functional without being laden down by too many extra features. It takes your blood pressure efficiently and, as far as I can see, accurately. In addition, it has indicators to alert you if your blood pressure exceeds the recommended limits (hypertension), plus, if your heartbeat is irregular (arrhythmia) it will warn you of that too.Powered by two AAA cells the device looks well made and is really easy to operate, and, in my opinion much more so than the armband type blood pressure monitors. Once you've fitted the cuff the whole blood pressure/pulse measurement operation is automatic. It also stores previous readings so you can see your blood pressure trend. The display is large and clear too and it comes in a nice, tough storage case. I think this is a really well made, easy to operate and effective product at an attractive price especially as it claims to be "clinically validated". Recommended.

This blood pressure monitor is so easy to use:1)Turn it on2)Clip the sturdy wrist-shaped cuff around underside of your wrist.3)Elevate your wrist/forearm in front of you until your wrist is roughly at the same level as your heart.4)Press the start button which will inflate the cuff.5)Read the result (once the cuff deflates after about twenty seconds). And that's it. I can vouch for its accuracy - although it is important to get the level/height of your arm in relation to your body right otherwise results can be markedly different. In conclusion this is a small, well-designed discrete unit that is SO much easier to use than the traditional wrap-around upper-arm cuff that normally requires you to adjust clothing etc. What's more it's accurate and allows you to store previous readings so you can monitor variations and trends in your BP. Finally it comes in a handy plastic carrying/traveling container and with batteries too.Recommended.

I have been using an Omron wrist monitor for many years and only bought this because I dropped it which rendered it useless. This new one has a couple of extra touches that I like: an irregular heartbeat monitor, a cuff tightness monitor, a movement monitor (gives an error message if you start moving) and a memory - saves the last 30 measurements (but not the date). Does the job very well. One small point, its approach to measuring BP is different from any other monitor (or doctor for that matter) Whereas the usual method is to inflate the cuff to well above the upper reading and then deflate until the pulse is sensed, this monitor does the opposite - it inflates slowly and records the lowest measurement when the pulse is sensed and continues up to just beyond the highest measurement. Then it stops and presents the readings and any warnings - high BP (anything over 135/85), irregular heartbeat etc. And it's all stored for future reference.

I was initially concerned that a medical item at this price point that relies on accuracy could be worth owning. However, on receipt I was surprised by the quality feel of the item and in practice it produces very consistent results. There's a calibration statement on the packaging and it's reassuring to read some of the reviews here that state it is accurate within a reasonable tolerance. In use it's very simple to operate and gives you a reading of the systolic and diastolic measures along with your heart rate. As you don't have to configure it at all, it is ideal for use by multiple people. I was surprised there was no guidance with the unit on how you should interpret the results, but that's easy to find on the Internet. Coupled with scales that measure your bmi, then this unit will help you keep a close measure on various aspects of your health and state of fitness.

Usual story diagnosed with high blood pressure, wanted something to check on it at home, checked online at BIHS ( British & Irish Hypertension Society). The RS2 was listed as approved so I bought it. Unfortunately the blood pressure readings are accurate, I've high blood pressure..! It's very easy to use, you just have to keep the monitor level/in-line with the heart as per the very simple pictographs in the box lid. The level doesn't appear to have have to be within the nearest mm or cm, simply at a level with the heart; the results are very repeatable regardless, so that's seems good. It packs away nicely into the little box, which is robust and protective. All in all very pleased with the purchase, less pleased with my blood pressure! It will be compared/calibrated with the professional arm cuff sphygmomanometer at the next surgery I'd recommend this unit.

With "intellisense", "oszillometrical monitoring", cuff-positioning control, the ability to fit from tiny to large wrists and thirty memory slots, how can you possibly go wrong? It measures your blood pressure, too - and very accurately, as well as picking up on "irregular heart beats". Altogether this is the perfect piece of techno-kit if you are a) a hypochondriac like me or b) have worries for good reason over your blood pressure. But more seriously - this is very comfortable in use (much more so than the upper are cuff sphygmomanometer models); it seems very accurate; the memory function works easily and well; and its design, including the design of the small, discreet box is as good as can be imagined. We already had two Omron pedometers and they are the best of the kind we've owned - this sphygmomanometer fits that bill, too. Highly recommended.
