Omron produce a variety of medical equipment which is used in the NHS - everything from thermometers to nebulisers. This being the case you would expect equipment from Omron to be of an excellent standard, and this is the case with this home blood pressure machine.Inside the box you get: the machine, the cuff and a brief instruction leaflet. This has an upper arm cuff like the ones used by the doctors and hospitals. It is a "medium" sized cuff for an arm diameter of 22 to 32 cm (9 to 13 inches). A larger cuff is available to purchase. The machine requires 4 AAA batteries (not supplied), though these will last for approximately 300 readings. There are 3 readings: systolic (top), diastolic (middle)and pulse (bottom). Blood pressure is measured as systolic over diastolic. Systolic is the pressure of the blood as it is pumped away from the heart and diastolic is the pressure of the blood between beats. The higher the blood pressure the harder the heart has to work to pump the blood round the body. There is little guidance given as to what defines high blood pressure. The leaflet suggest 135 (systolic) and above 85 (diastolic), whereas the NHS website defines it as above 140 (systolic) and 90 (diastolic).A high pulse rate (tachycardia) occurs when the body is resting and the heart still beats as if it were during exercise. The normal resting rate for a woman is given as between 72-80 beats per minute (it is higher during pregnancy). The rate for a man is given as 68-75 bpm.The machine will store a number of back readings so that you can look to see if there is any alteration (increase or decrease) in the readings. This machine should be used as guidance only and you should never try to medicate yourself. Should you have any concerns please see your doctor, though don't be surprised if (s)he scoffs and makes comments about hypochondria. Please remember when using this that you should not take your pulse/bp immediately after exercise, you should sit quietly for several minutes before trying, and if you want to take it again you should wait approximately 5-10 minutes before pressing the go button.I will say one last thing. During my visits to the hospital and to the GP my blood pressure has been taken a lot and the readings from the trained health professionals and the readings have ranged from mid-normal to very high - and they are supposed to be trained professionals - so if you get some readings that seem a little too high don't panic - just remember that even the professionals can't get it right all the time.

The Pro Logic blood pressure arm monitor is a machine that meets the British Hypertension Society's standards and is cited on their website. This means that the user can expect it to perform to a satisfactory level with regard to recording blood pressure. This is the most important statement that I can make in this review but I do have a few more points that I would like to make to the potential purchaser. The machine itself represents good value for money. I know that there are more sophisticated ones on the market but all the bells and whistles, such as reading memory and facilities for dual use, are mere niceties. It does, however, come without the batteries required for it to work immediately and this is an irritation.A little case would be pleasant but this is not essential and the price does not merit it. It is worth mentioning that it is a derivative from the Omron stable. It is worth noting that the medium sized cuff may not be adequate for everyone and the user should ensure that it meets their requirements as readings are affected by such things. I asked a well-qualified medical consultant for his view and he measured the cuff indicating that arm sizes above 28.5 cms (ish) might find it a little small (due to the cuff bladder size) but he does have certain personal preferences as he admits and going with the technical specifications is fine.My main issues were around the "paperwork" issued with the machine. The front of the box says "1 in 3 adults in the UK have high blood pressure. Do you? (sic)" This requires explanation as it is age group dependent. You also need to know what qualifies as hypertension and, if you are buying this machine (or any), may I suggest that you visit the British Hypertension Society website as a "must do" and read through the excellent information on the site. This will complement the paperwork that comes with the device and will give the user the full story. I read it through and I felt that it needed to be more comprehensive in its advice and offer a little health education in the area. I say this as a qualified nurse who has worked for quite a number of years in the cardiology field. In summary, if you purchase this machine you should be fine. Use it wisely and correctly - and in conjunction with adopting a healthy and informed lifestyle.

The Omron Pro-logic PL100 blood pressure arm monitor is a light, compact unit. It consists of an inflatable cuff that attaches to the digital reader by an air tube. It is quite easy to use and the display screen is large and clear. There is one press-button to start and stop it. The instructions for use are clear, illustrated and easy to understand. I have only one niggle about this very useful piece of equipment and that is that I found the cuff a little difficult to position single-handed. The cuff is marked with an arrow that must be centred on your middle arm and the cuff then pulled tight. In the process of pulling the cuff tight, it tends to slide round your arm and is difficult to reposition once it is tight. It would be better to have someone help you with this, if at all possible. It would also be better to put the cuff onto a bare arm as this would make it easier to reposition. It is really important to follow the instructions for use carefully: seating position and the "no eating, smoking or exercise 30 minutes before taking a measurement" are important rules to follow or blood pressure results can be alarming! The instruction leaflet includes a chart on which to fill in readings and it is a good idea to do this. I once had to do this for my doctor over a three week period and I was instructed by him to take three readings and record the middle result, not the highest or the lowest. Since this instruction isn't given in the Omron leaflet, it would be a good idea to use this device with instructions from a doctor or practice nurse. I would advise anyone who has the smallest concern over their blood pressure to invest in one of these instruments and use it with the knowledge and advice of their doctor. I have only docked one star because of the slight difficulty I found in positioning the cuff but, with practice, this should become easy.

Over time, I've used most types of blood pressure monitors. I've used handheld ones, the ones hospitals have, the ones that go on your wrist, etc. All this can be attributed to my mother (always the nurse that she is!) wanting to make sure that we're kept at tip top condition! The last blood pressure monitor I used was an Omron wrist one (I think it is the Omron RX3), which is being used extensively by my parents and can become the focal point of our morning coffee, and lies at the heart of heated debates occasionally, when I always tease my father about not putting it on correctly! This one is in my opinion reminiscent of the blood pressure monitors of late! It is manufactured by Omron (so you can't really go wrong, can you!) and the cuff is connected to the monitor through a hollow cable to allow for the air to circulate and the pressure to build up in the cuff! The cable itself is quite long, but don't expect it to be too long! It's more or less the right length to allow you to sit on the chair at a comfortable distance from the monitor! I absolutely love that feature, as it can give you perhaps more accurate readings and does not allow any interferences. On the other hand, I think that it might be a feat for some people to manage it on their own, but it should not be a problem! But then again, even taking one's blood pressure can be fun and it can be an enjoyable experience that can bring people together, can it not!All in all, it's very good, it's reliable, but two small issues, like some other people commented on, meant that it was not 5 stars from me; a) It does not come with the 4 AAA batteries, which means you have to fork out some more for decent ones and b) it does not have a case, so you have to be careful about how you store it. Other than that, logical pressure taking at its best!

This is an excellent product, allowing "the patient" to monitor their blood pressure at home, when convenient. Doctors have long been aware of the effect that visiting a medical professional to have blood pressure has on many patients. This simple package provides a solution allowing home measurements to be taken. The package consists of the monitor, and a cuff with a tube. The monitor has a clear LCD screen, and requires 4 AAA (LR03) batteries in order to operate (show the display, and inflate the cuff). The tube is easily attached to the monitor. Once the cuff is placed on the arm above the elbow, a simple push of the start button inflates the cuff and then slowly deflates it.Full instructions are provided, giving advice on how to use and fit the monitor. My one concern was that the cuff would be too small for my arms. I'm not a body builder by any means, but have chunky enough arms that I thought the provided cuff would be too small. But it isn't - it fits well, is comfortable and has some room spare. All in all I am thoroughly impressed with this blood pressure monitor from Omron - one of the leading names in the field.Five stars.

High blood pressure is one of those things you never know you've got until you have see a doctor probably about something quite unrelated. I seem to have so called 'white coat syndrome' which basically means that the medical profession scares the daylights out of me sending my readings soaring. As a result over the years I've had a couple of twenty four hour tests where you live with the cuff on and the machine takes readings every hour or so. The result of these tests so far indicate that my pressure is normal, however, I decided to keep an eye on it myselfThe Pro Logic blood pressure monitor made by Omron is compact, well made and has a large easy to read display.I've noticed that the nurses at my medical centre use Omron machines so I take that to be a sign of good quality. I also checked readings against my doctor's machine and the results were very favourable. I've only two gripes...1 It would have been nice to have a little storage case. 2 It surely is not unreasonable to expect a modern machine to have a universal cuff.PLEASE SEE COMMENTS FOR IMPORTANT INFORMATION

This is an easy-to-use blood-pressure monitor. It comprises the monitor base unit which benefits from a very large and clear liquid crystal display, an arm cuff with a useful metal guide to assist in its positioning on the arm, and remarkably clear instructions. This is not a complex device with the ability to store old blood pressure readings, record the time of each reading, or graph the results on its screen. As such, at this price point, I think many users will regard this as an advantage. It provides a clear blood-prssure reading and heart rate. That's it. The instructions, and the marks on the cuff together with the metal guide, make it easy to correctly attach to the arm. Blood pressure is measured, and the device turned on and off via a single orange button underneath the display. The only minor irritation is that the monitor does not come with the 4 AAA batteries it requires. Like other monitors the positioning of the arm is important, and can effect the reading, but the instructions detail this.Overall very hard to fault so five stars. Recommended.

This is the entry-level blood pressure monitor from Omron, who I had previously been aware of primarily for their pedometers and sports-related monitoring devices. They have a good reputation in the field, so you know you are in safe hands with this monitor. It couldn't be easier to use - simply put on the cuff, push the start button, and note down your reading.I gave this to my dad, who has a heart condition and has to keep a close eye on his blood pressure due to the medication he is on. This device has enabled him to keep track of his pressure himself, meaning far fewer trips to the doctor's surgery 15 miles from his house. He keeps a little diary of his pressure, that he checks daily (twice daily if he feels unusual), and he takes this to show the doctor when he does go in. It's really improved his peace of mind (and my mum's!) and that is worth several times the low cost of this device.

Of course if anyone has a medical problem it's a professional they should consult, however there is a pregnant lady in my office who sometimes has dizzy spells. I repeat, nothing is going to replace her regular monitoring by the midwives and doctors, however a product like this, cheap and incredibly easy to use, is wonderfully useful for anyone to monitor their blood pressure. I found the cuff supplied a perfectly adequate size for both males and females, you just fit it round the upper arm and press the button, the cuff inflates automatically leaving the reading displayed for blood pressure and pulse. I found no indication of a "normal" blood pressure on the instructions, perhaps they are loathe to implicate themselves. Apparently the device should be checked after two years to ensure the readings are still accurate. No batteries supplied, otherwise no quibbles.

This unit is very well made, very clear, and (for the price at time of writing) extremely good value for money. It's fairly basic, and any health professionals might want something more functional - but at this price point it's perfectly acceptable for the end user. Only two caveats to state : first, IT DOES NOT COME WITH BATTERIES. So make sure you buy some AAA batteries with it. Second, there isn't anything - i.e. a booklet - that attempts to make sense of the readings... but when you think about it, that's entirely understandable. The unit exists for one purpose only - to read your blood pressure accurately. Interpreting that reading, in the context of your entire health picture,is something for a trained clinician. As always, a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing, and having equipment like this around is not an excuse to self-medicate! :)

Firstly, this is an Omron product, and we all know that they are leaders in blood pressure devices. The monitor is very simple to use, with large digital display and one on/off button. I actually own another Omron blood pressure monitor and was able to compare the readings, which were pretty identical over several days. Please be aware of the accurate way of monitoring your blood pressure, i.e. at least 30 mins after exercising, smoking or eating. The instructions booklet does provide basic information on the correct way of blood pressure reading, as well as a little chart you could note down your readings. The monitor requires 4X AAA batteries which are not included, and does not include a bag to store it.However, at this price range, it is a reliable product that totally meets its claims to provide accurate blood pressure readings at home.

The Omron Blood Pressure Monitor comes with instructions on how to check the blood pressure and includes the SYS and DIA which relate to high blood pressure so that readings can be shown to a GP. The pulse rate is also displayed. The monitor only takes one reading, instead of the usual three and then displaying the average (which is far more accurate), and the readings cannot be stored on a memory, but the leaflet does contain a blank table for readings to be written in. The one problem I found, is like many other items requiring batteries, there were no batteries included and so I was unable to use the monitor until I remembered to buy the AAA batteries. Overall, the monitor appears to be accurate and I would certainly suggest a monitor for anyone with concerns over blood pressure or symptoms pertaining to blood pressure.

This blood pressure device comes in a box marked Pro logic. Why?It's actually Omron, probably the foremost producer of devices like this. That alone would sell it to me as I've had an Omron for years (got a bit of a BP problem so I monitor it) and it's been totally faultless. This device is a somewhat simpler to use version. No AC adapter socket as it presumably isn't designed for use in a hospital or clinic where it would need one. It also takes AAA size batteries but is also a neat and well designed little white box with a sturdy pressure cuff. If you want one of these for light use in the home, it's going to be ideal. tested alongside the Omron I own (and was thinking of replacing at some stage)it gives results within the acceptable margin of error. No huge variances so it's accurate enough.

I have got high blood pressure, have only just discovered it when going in for an operation. I have an Omron wrist BP monitor which is pretty good but according to my GP the ones which go onto the arm are the most accurate.I have had the GPs BP monitor for a week and am going in for a review in the new year. This item is excellant! Easy to set up and use without instructions its just like the monitor you have at the doctors. One press button to activate and it is quick and easy. It also gives you your pulse rate which is another valuable statistic to record.I am very pleased with this item and would recommend it.The only gripe I have about it is that it didn't come with batteries but it uses 4AAA - I will recomment on battery life in a few weeks.

I was diagnosed with hypertension a couple of months ago and am seeing various health practitioners to find out why I have it at such a young age (my BP was initially around 200/120 when it was discovered by chance). One of the consultants suggested that I buy a blood pressure monitor for home use, so I decided upon this one based on the reviews and price. It has been money well spent - it is perfect for my needs and very easy to use. The readings look accurate and in-line with the readings that my GP is getting, and it's been useful for me to keep a note to show him during appointments. At least I can tell that my medication is working and also monitor how stress and lifestyle choices are affecting me.Highly recommended.
