Braun are market leaders in thermometers and toothbrushes and this is the first time I have seen them venture into the BP machine market. The Braun ActiveScan 9 does not disappoint and has become very much part of my routine.I have borderline BP and, already being on medication and keen to avoid ramping it up, I decided to get this to keep track of my BP. I am a GP so it would have been easy for me to check it every 5 minutes at work but this would involve keeping a log and entering figures and keeping track on things which I don't really have the inclination for - step forward the ActivScan 9.Out of the (substantial cardboard) box, it is a small and unassuming BP monitor. It takes 4 AA batteries (supplied)and it immediately jumps into life asking for the date and time, then my name. It's then good to go. The quick start guide is great for basics but does not really cover things like Bluetooth linkage but it is very intuitive. It allows setup for 2 users so my my wife also is in on the act.Once programmed, there is a touch sensitive start button and a home button on the front as well as a toggle dial to select menu choices. The cuff is plenty big enough and comes with an innovative clip design which makes it a doddle to put on your own arm. I have never seen this before and this has always been a bit of a problem for home BP machines - so well done Braun. So simple but yet so effective. It takes BP by inflation rather than deflation which is also an innovation. Most BP machines work by hugely overinflating the cuff and letting it down - this machine only inflates as far as it needs to making it a very comfortable ride. The results are presented initially with a coloured heart and then it gives the result. The colour of the heart corresponds to the control of BP. Green is good, Red is bed and yellow to orange is borderline. It then records the last 200 readings for each user.Selecting the Bluetooth function transferred the data straight to my phone (one the app is downloaded). Strangely, I did not even need to pair to the Bluetooth and it just piped it in which is great. It then gives a BP diary, colourful trend of BP and presents it so well - I am very impressed. The quality of the graphics on the screen are also fantastic. None of the usual LCD 7 pin displays - this is full colour and really nice. The screen itself is not touch sensitive which I, as an iPhone user, found a bit difficult to get used to.I also own the Omron equivalent - Omron being the most common make of BP machines in medical centres but the Braun is head and shoulders ahead in terms of usability and interactivity. It is a pleasure to use and makes the whole thing so much less stressful.Don't drive yourself mad measuring your BP times a day so don't get this for the sake of it but, if your doctor has asked you to take home readings and monitor your BP in between appointments, this is by far the best and most fun options I have come across. For what it's worth, it looks funky too!It comes at an eye-watering cost but I think you get what you pay for and the quality of the build and interface make it a sound investment (IF YOU NEED TO KEEP A CLOSE EYE ON YOUR BP).Recommended

This blood pressure monitor looks like something that would be used in a futuristic Swiss clinic so I wasn’t too surprised to see that it was produced by Kaz Europe in Lausanne, Switzerland. It has a beautiful modern design with lovely curves and neat lines.I inserted the 4 supplied AA alkaline batteries into the “foot” of the control unit. It then took me to a set-up display, so I could select 12 or 24 hours, set the time, date and entered my name.I then plugged in the blood pressure cuff and applied it to my upper arm. The cuff is a fairly standard single-tube design but they have added a huge plastic bulldog clip to the outside, to avoid the need to wrap the cuff around the arm.It also helps locate the cuff correctly as when the “clips” is placed over the top of the biceps muscle, the centre of the cuff is ideally placed over the brachial artery. On first use, there are some very helpful colour diagrams to guide correct usage and placement of the cuff. These can appear every time the device is used or be hidden, via a selection in the set up menu.During inflation, there is a multi-colour striped picture of a heart, which then turns fully green once the cuff deflates and an accurate reading has been obtained. The BP and pulse are then displayed with a colour code, where green indicates a value within the WHO ideals of <135 systolic and < 85 diastolic, with higher values in the amber, light red or deep red zone. There is an accompanying Braun Healthy Heart iPhone app. I installed the app and then connected the device to my iPhone X using Bluetooth pairing. It quickly transferred all of readings into the app for posterity: the device itself only holds the most recent 200 readings. The app is linked not only the device but also to an individual user of the device so my wife’s readings weren’t mixed up with mine. These readings are then also transferred to the Apple Health app that is integral to all iPhones. The piece de resistance is the “share my history” feature that creates a colour coded table of all systolic, diastolic and pulse readings between the selected dates in an email, ready to send to whoever may require the information. Ideal for any healthcare professional requiring a record of ambulatory blood pressure readings. The BP device doesn’t make a feature of arrhythmia detection but it will display a different icon next to the heart rate measurement if it does detect an irregular heart beat. It then advises seeking medical advice if this symbol appears frequently. The only thing this smartest of blood pressure monitors is missing is a suitable carrying case. It just feels wrong having to put is back into a cardboard box once it has been used. At this price, it should come with a custom made, zip-up case.

My husband is currently having ongoing tests for a heart condition, which included a tilt-table test and having a heart activity implant in his chest for around 3 years. He has raised blood pressure and his consultant said he might like to try a blood pressure monitor so he can keep an eye on any fluctuations in his readings on a daily basis. This monitor is replacing a basic Lloyd’s Pharmacy blood pressure monitor which was okay for getting actual readings, but there was no additional functionality beyond the figures on the screen. This is a completely different level of technology, it’s got its own App, which connects to the monitor using Bluetooth, which can hold data for two people separately, and which stores all your readings for many days or even weeks or years, which is excellent for looking for patterns in the data. Or you can use the excellent screen unit which is attached to the actual cuff, and which has a scroll wheel to select the relevant screen and data. Each time you take a reading, the result is shown on the screen, and it is colour-coded, so you can see at a glance if your blood pressure is in the normal range, or elevated mildly, moderately or extremely.Interestingly, my own blood pressure was slightly raised at 136/97, which surprised me as I had not even considered that I might be anything other than normal. The monitor is also extremely easy to use. The sprung cuff clips around your arm like a giant bulldog clip, and then you just wrap the hook and loop tape round to secure it, so you don’t have to put your hand through the tube then wriggle it up your arm.It tightens more than the Lloyds monitor, and it feels extremely snug to the point of pinching, but I feel that the reading is also more accurate and I trust it more than the Lloyds monitor.Being a Braun product, it’s made with excellent attention to detail, great styling and with high quality materials. It looks very sleek and smart.5 stars

I'm a middle age man with a fondness for fatty food and boozy drink. I also have three young kids to worry about and want to be around to see them settled into adulthood. Whilst a mirror, shrinking trouser waists, bathroom scales and constant general feeling of being knackered should be enough to motivate me to do something about my fitness, I've always found hard data gives me an even bigger kick. So for the past few years, in addition to calorie counting apps, I've also tried various devices to keep on top of my BP. I am more motivated to get better when my BP goes up than my weight! I had an old manual one first, then I got an app connected one (Qardio branded) which was a bit quirky, and now I have this. This is the winner by a mile. I love my gadgets and this feels and looks almost apple quality. Right down to the unboxing experience. The materials and build quality seem medical grade compared with my two earlier devices - and on my pixel 2 phone I found downloading, installing and pairing the device simplicity itself. The display is clear, the colour coded hints are helpful nudges about the level of concern you should have. I know that whenever I get into yellow for more than a few days in a row it is a hard sign to think about what I'm putting in my mouth and when I last did some exercise. I'm ever going to be a fitness guru or freak - I am always going to enjoy takeaways and benders - but this kind of data is a very powerful way, that works for me, of stopping my slippery slope getting completely out of hand. Since I started tracking all this stuff, my BP has come down a bit (most usually in green now), my weight has stabilised (still slightly overweight, but no longer putting any more on) and that should help in the long run. If, like me, you respond to hard data, if you are concerned about your heart health, and if you like gadgets, then this is a sound investment.

This Braun ActivScan 9 blood pressure monitor is very easy to set up and use. It comes with simple and clear instructions so it is easy to read. It is a premium quality brand and the design is modern and compact, so you can travel with it and take it on holiday with you. It comes with 4 AA alkaline batteries and will provide approximately 350 measurements before replacing. When replacing the batteries all readings are saved in memory and preserved, all you need to do is set the date and time again. It has a custom-made pinch-to-open butterfly like cuff, and the sleeve fastens with velcro which provides an easy grip with smooth inflate which means you can fit the device comfortably and easily around your upper arm.The device supports two users which means it can store up to 200 readings for each user.Once it has read your results, it automatically displays your data directly onto the monitor and it colour codes your results from green to red. It has an easy navigation wheel soft touch buttons and displays daily, weekly and monthly and it is easy to understand. It will also highlight if you have any irregular heart beats. I tend to take my readings at the same time when I use it as this is easier for me to monitor my blood pressure and heart beat. You can also sync it with the Healthy Heart app, downloaded on your smart phone, so that you can see your data anytime, anywhere and you can also share your results with your doctor. I have an elderly mother so when I visit her I take my device with me and measure her blood pressure and heart beat. She feels confident and not nervous as the blood pressure monitor feels comfortable on her arm. All in all a premium quality machine which is well worth buying.. This monitor is excellent. I have been using BP monitors of different sorts for some years now tracking my numbers for fitness and was encouraged to try this one by a friend - I am so glad I did, it has to be one of my best buys this year so far.Mine arrived promptly on the doorstep (thanks Prime) and impressed me straight away with its efficient and low-key packaging which keeps everything together in a compact storage solution which does not look out of place on a shelf in the living room or bedroom. Since I usually track morning and evening BP it needs to be close at hand in either of those places. The unit has a reassuring solidity and a decent length of tubing to connect the cuff. The cuff has to be the best innovation - once it is set to your arm size (which is easy) it can be slipped on and off with ease thanks to the clip system on it. This saves me a lot of faff day to day and it also makes it easy to use for those with less mobility in their hands. The monitor can hold readings for two different users which might require a cuff adjustment between people but the Velcro makes that easy too.The machine itself is easy to use and the controls, once you take a moment to suss them out, quickly become intuitive. The readings can link to the Braun Healthy Heart app on your phone which I found to be a smooth process and which is also very helpful for tracking fitness generally. The readings are displayed with a visual colour coded summary as well which lets you see at a glance how your numbers are tracking.Braun have obviously put some thought into this one. Not the cheapest BP monitor I have seen but definitely worth its price. Highly recommended.

This is a very full featured digital blood pressure monitor. It is very intuitive and easy to use. In fact, it has "on the monitor" information that makes it easier to use than the instruction books, which are really not very good. So for example, it will give a picture in the instruction book about which icon to refer to on the monitor, but the picture is too small to know which one they are referring to. But dont let any of this put you off, because it really is very easy to use. One beef I have is about the cuff- you use a large clasp to grip the upper arm. The plastic grip on one side of the clasp came off- I think it is a manufacturing fault- I pushed it back in place with a satisfying click, only to have it come off again. It doesnt stop the monitor being used, but its an annoying fault with a brand name like Braun- Hopefully you will not have the same problem. I have an existing monitor at home, and used this to alert me to a high blood pressure condition- which actually turned out not to be as serious as the home monitor would suggest- I think it is quite difficult to get an accurate reading at home- there are fairly detailed instructions as to how you should take your pressure but if you do get alerted, I would get a proper medical check out. As I said, this is the easiest most intuitive monitor I have seen and from that point of view is recommended- it stores your info, so that you can see trends, and allows more than one user- It also has bluetooth for linking to the necessary app on your smartphone- this I have not tried, as I have a thing about sharing my health details on the internet. You dont have to if you dont want to

I’ve used and bought many BP machines over the years, for both myself and family members and have found that in general terms some of the cheaper high street brands have been just as easy to use and accurate as the really expensive ones. This one is completely different though, to anything I’ve used before. It has such a modern stylish look to it, the screen is really big and easy to use with full colour display, and the cuff design is the best and most comfortable I’ve ever used. There is a linked app you can download whereby you can annotate your readings with personal data about how you felt, ate, slept etc on that particular day and the machine also stores your readings. We even found that the data transports directly into the ‘health’ app on our iPhones without us even realising. (You do need to pair the machine with your phone via Bluetooth which was quick and painless, which we’d already done in order to access the Braun app)I love the fact that your readings are displayed in a colour theme from red- amber-yellow-green giving an instant indicator of how your reading compares to recommended guidelines, the countdown to the reading even changes to this colour in the final stages giving you an early hint as to the result before it actually displays. My only negative, and it’s a really tiny one is that you need to position the monitor directly in front of you, if you view the screen from a sideways angle, the colours can appear distorted.Don’t be put off that it’s overly high-tech, it’s actually incredibly easy and intuitive to set up and use and the inflation of the cuff is the most gentle I’ve ever come across!!!

This monitor is amazing and has so many great features. The monitor allows your blood pressure readings to be synced up to your mobile phone via an app and Bluetooth. This allows you to keep track of your own readings. The monitor can be set and profiled for 2 users. The results are stored in the memory and can be reviewed. The monitor is easy to use with the press of one button and gives you clear step by step instructions. Your reading is displayed in digital format and also colour coded green, yellow, orange and red to indicate if your blood pressure in healthy or not. It can also detect irregular heart beat.I have found the monitor extremely easy to use and useful. My Mum was recently diagnosed with severe hypertension so we wanted to monitor her pressure. She is able to use the machine by herself with no problems. The results are accurate which is very reassuring and the app records the results as well as the monitor. The results are easy to read and show anomalies. The only gripe I have is that you can only set it up for 2 users and link to the app. I think it should allow for more users. We have got round this by having a specific profile for Mum as it was her BP that primarily needs monitoring and general profile for everyone to share. This is a great piece of technology that is incredibly accurate and gives piece of mind. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

This is a beautifully made blood pressure monitor, that's well presented and sleekly designed. All in all an impressive thing. Basic setup/usage instructions are printed on the fabric part of the cuff, so there's a visual reminder whenever you go to set it up of how it should be positioned. The top section of the cuff, a heavy plastic part fits over the arm, opening a bit like a bulldog clip, to include even quite wide, muscular arms. The fabric section of the cuff is long and has hook and loop fastening along the length. The colour display screen is beautifully clear, and the controls work by means of a combination of a selector dial and touch buttons beneath the display. The machine runs on 4xAA batteries - these are included. There is no option for a mains power supply. This has inbuilt user memory for a couple of users and can be used in conjunction with an app, although we're unlikely to ever use this as we tend not to favour sharing this kind of personal information. I had to switch to using this only when wearing short sleeved tops, as I was finding that longer sleeves were bunching quite a lot above the top of the quite lengthy hard plastic clip section to this cuff - resulting in some extremely improbable readings. Once I swapped to short sleeve tops, I got readings that were more consistent with those I've had recently from our old blood pressure monitor.

I am very pleased with this product. I do not suffer from problems with my BP, but I am constantly urged by 4 daughters to keep checking my BP! The Braun is my answer - fast to set up, fast and easy to use, only seconds from my day needed to satisfy worried girls. (They are sure that I am aging faster than all other fathers, despite plenty of evidence to the contrary. I rock climb, hill walk and rough shoot at 61 years of age at near the standard I did 20 years before.)Surprise, surprise. BP is normal. The simple stuff is communicated by a traffic light system, green, amber, red. The detail is in the numerical reading. This latter can be stored compared and put on an app.The last function is very good indeed for someone moving down from red or amber.Set up is easier than updating my car clock or bedside alarm. Some functions are touch screen. The start-up guide actually gets you started. Visuals are present on the device and on the inflatable sleeve. I am sure that those getting wide ranging readings are just putting the device on differently each time. Follow the visual instructions and you will get there easily. Just don't rush. The cable needs to be on top and straight. The sleeve needs to be sufficiently above the inner elbow. Don't use your brain. Look at the pictures!

Its hard to find product which will really impress you and I just done that. Getting older means paying more attention to your health and monitoring your blood pressure and heart beat is essential. Braun Activscan is simply amazing and I dont say it too often. Its modern very friendly and easy to use. Comes with batteries which I really appreciate as you can start using it straight away. Its easy to put on your arm by yourself but I would practice few times before serious measurements - I think my first check was not 100% correct but 2 follow ups were very similar. I can use it with my wife as it has memory for 2 people - storing all the results in the memory so you can compare them.Screen and operating button are very easy to use - you can access all previous records, have average result and you have screen when you can compare your result to optimal healthy numbersIts a new way for me to monitor my blood pressure - comfortable, no papers, no writing.Excellent product I can honestly reccomend!! Braun ActivScan 9 Digital Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor for Comfortable and Intuitive Measurement is one beautifully made blood pressure machine and for me, it is the perfect machine as it holds the records of my blood pressure and heart rate readings which I need to have for my hospital visits. I like the fact it was so easy to connect to my smartphone using the "healthy heart app".I like how this Blood pressure monitor looks and the fact it measures everything then provides me with good clear results. This is a machine for those who need to really keep a good close eye on their Blood pressure readings,I find it particularly useful for keeping records then I am able to show them to my consultant which means he is able to see if my current medication is working or maybe needs changing.I do really like the Braun ActivScan 9 Digital Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor for Comfortable and Intuitive Measurement it provides me with everything I need when it comes to my Blood pressure health and for that reason alone I am happy to recommend.

This is a very classy machine, from the box it is packed into, then your first look at it and finally using it, it comes across as really well made. It certainly puts my old, stashed in a bag, cheap from Boots thing in the shade. It takes four batteries but these are kindly provided. There is a quick clear user guide as well as a booklet that will see you through setting the time and date, inputting your own id (it will hold information for 2 users) and putting the device on and getting started. It gives you your blood pressure reading and heart rate. The booklet also points out that blood pressure fluctuates during the day. I know that I have taken it about three times in fairly close succession and each time it varies a bit. This is to be expected.Anyway for even an even quicker look at your bp if the screen is green all is fine, mild hypertension is yellow and severe shows up red.It stores up to 200 readings. You can Bluetooth connect to the Braun healthy heart app which holds readings too.Very impressed with this.

The earlier reviews about inaccuracy was a little off putting but providing you follow the instructions precisely it seems very good. You must position the cuff, which has a very handy clamp attachment to do it one handed, between 2/3 cm above your elbow which is approx a index finger thickness (on me) then ensure the air line is running down the arm. It sounds a bit of a palarva but the results are good. The ability to Bluetooth them to your tablet is very good. The particular thing I liked is my cardiologist was insistent he didn’t want averages of three or more readings and all bp machines, including this one, does that. However the braun allows you to recall each individual one which in the end persuaded me to buy itOnly down side was it was a good deal cheaper than other shops direct from Amazon. I placed it in my basket and when I back back a few hours later Amazon has increased the price by over £25. This one dealer was still doing it at the old price.
