My wife was recently diagnosed during a medical checkup as having slightly raised blood pressure & prescribed a suitable pill to take daily, & loaned a blood-pressure monitoring device by our local GP practice to self-test at home for a fortnight & asked to jot down the results. (This is because "White Coat" syndrome, the act of actually travelling to, waiting in & going into a doctor's surgery to have this service performed, can raise blood pressure in itself, leading to false readings). And guess which monitoring unit she was loaned? Yes, precisely this same identical Omron basic unit, so as far as I'm concerned, this unit is NHS approved, although of course, don't quote me on this. But it was this self-same piece of kit.So I bought her this product a couple of days ago on a whim, noting the extremely good price, not knowing it was the same thing, as she'd been prescribed a new higher-dose medicine & asked to report back every 3 weeks or so. But she instantly recognised it as the same unit her practice had loaned her some weeks earlier. The product oozes quality, robustness & reassurance, being built to industrial standards, believe me, & is easy & straightforward to use. Even the box it comes in is glossy & high quality. The arm-band supplied is adjustable & comfortable, fits my wife's arm perfectly & even fits me (a 6 foot pretty robustly-built male), & the machine auto-inflates the armband very quietly & gently when the auto-test button is pressed. No hassle, no discomfort. It even monitors your pulse/heartrate & squeals if it's too high apparently! There is an extremely comprehensive set of instructions with it, but basically the unit is automatic & simplicity itself to work & a test takes about 1.5 minutes & no 'White Coat syndrome' doing it at home in one's chair & the results are displayed on a very large & clear LCD screen. It works off 4 little AAA batteries (first ones supplied). It looks very sleek & professional too.Every piece of this bit of kit is robust, well-made & would clearly last for years, & it even looks very nice & shiny, & comes with a nice little storage bag (yes, you guessed it.... high quality bag!) & a pre-printed empty chart on which to note your readings if you wish to, to monitor any changes.I am extremely impressed by this product, have absolutely no doubt that its readings are 100% accurate if you follow the simple instructions, and at the current price Amazon is selling it, an absolute unbeatable bargain. If you're looking for a blood pressure monitor, have no hesitation in buying this unit: it's an absolute steal at the current Amazon price, easily worth 4 times the asking price, & is actually quite fun to use..... Providing the readings it gives you are within normal parameters (clearly explained in the instructions), of course!!And if they aren't, get to the doctor's pronto, as it may just save your life.

I went to the nurse at my local doctor as I was concerned about headaches I was getting. I was told that my blood pressure was 133/91 (mild hypertension). I was concerned because although there is a hereditary link on my maternal side and some of my siblings are on beta blockers, I class myself as mega healthy. At most, I drink half a bottle of wine with a friend once a week and even that is rare. I do not smoke, I jog twice a week, bikram yoga once a week. Rarely eat red meat, genuinely follow a low fat regime and have a BMI of 25 and a cholesterol count of 5.5. I am not stressed at all in my personal or professional life.Ignore the bad reviews of this product. It does what it says on the tin.I initially thought that it was a dud when readings were all over the place. Diastolic pressure going from 88 to 99 in the space of two minutes !!!! I went to the nurse at work and the readings were all over the place too. She said I was stressing, I was. Finally I started to relax and the readings started to be consistent. How I went from 133/92 to 128/75 in one month !!!!!!!!!!!!!Essential Oils - I came across people online waxing lyrical about the benefits of essential oils in treating high blood pressure. I used ylang, ylang, lavender and sweet marjoram which I put in a diffuser and had on night and day in the house. I also massaged it raw onto the soles of my feet every evening and mixed the residue on my hands with a carrier oil and massaged around my neck.Milk Thistle - I took milk thistle in an attempt to detox the chemicals from my body after 20 years of drinking aspartame in sugar free drinks. I had no idea of the risks involved until the nurse at the surgery told me.Water ! Water! Water ! - I had no idea that lack of water ( I hate water) can cause high BP. I drunk 84 oz of pure filtered water every day, which equated to half my body weight in ounces. I love water now. I have a filter jug on my desk right now. Google dehydration and high blood pressure. You're in for a shock.Multi Vitamin - I took a good multi vitaminOrganic hibiscus tea three times a day. I try to drink the first cup on rising with a touch of honey, it is a diuretic and I lost a lot of weight. I also made up a jug of the stuff and put it in the fridge - very refreshing.Baby Aspirin - 75mg Enteric tablets. Two at night. One month later, I went back to the nurse and took this BP machine with me. She took my pressure on her machine and mine and it came out the same. 128/75, even the other two readings were consistently the same. For such a small price, you get the chance to keep a check on your bp in your own time. Best £16.70 I've spent in a long time.

This is a really nicely made unit, with quality components, and even comes complete with batteries (4xAAA). It is roughly 11x13x6cm in size, and reassuringly solid. The manufacturers claim that a fresh set of batteries should last c.300 readings before needing replacing.Once the batteries are in, you just put the cuff on your arm (over light clothing is fine), tighten it up firmly, and press the start button. It quickly and surprisingly quietly inflates the cuff, and then gradually deflates to take the readings. The whole process takes just over 30s. It's fast, discreet, and accurate, and at the current price (GBP 17) there's nothing whatever to criticise - a cracking little unit and great value. Why monitor blood pressure?Even if there is no cause for concern, blood pressure is a key 'vital sign' and keeping an eye on it from time to time is a good way to monitor general health, good or bad trends, and encourage lifestyle improvements (more fruit & veg, less booze & salt, more exercise). It can provide reassurance if the readings are good, or identify potential issues before they become sufficiently serious to necessitate a trip to the GP / A&E / RIP! However, self-diagnosis or treatment of any 'abnormal' results is not to be advised as that really is a job for the professionals. Some individuals see non-typical or 'false positive' results, known as white-coat hypertension, when blood-pressure measurements are taken by a doctor or in hospital. This may be driven by nerves or stress linked to the clinical environment, and the ability to monitor your own blood pressure at home in a less worrying environment may affect the diagnosis. This should always be discussed with your doctor, and with their agreement it may prevent unnecessary treatment. In addition to false readings caused by 'white coat syndrome', one needs to be aware of potential inaccuracies caused by attractive GPs (Clooney-Roberts syndrome) or nurses from the Benny Hill school of medicine (fishnet fever). I have no experience in this area, but am willing to submit to medical research if that would help. Until then, this is a very impressive, top quality monitor that does the job well and is highly recommended.

People around me call me crazy, mad .... and use lot of similar or even stronger words about me ..reason ...I always try to go for the best/perfect item no matter what I am buying. I bought one machine M10-1T .. which on extensive tests and comparison with the GP's machine turn out to be accurate... my colleague took that one from me and I ordered another same model for myself ..but I wasn't happy with second machine which was the same model .... It gave different reading at the same time [ again this machine was extensively tested ] I returned that machine and ordered this basic model M2 which turn out to be accurate,by not only testing but also by comparing with GP's machine and with my colleagues Omron M10-IT machine.A piece of advice ...no matter which model you buy .... Please follow the instructions and test the machine and if it gives the same reading at the same time for the sameperson [with the exception of 2/3 digit variation] then there is a good chance that its accurate..after that take the machine to your GP and request him/her to check you BP with both machines if its same that's great, and if there is any difference then still machine is fine all you need is to add or subtract the difference which it gave while comparing withyour GP's machine. If you do not need memory etc. functions and simply want to monitor you blood pressure then buy this basic M2 model at bargain price , because it does the same thing as the expensive ones .........please do make lot of tests and compare with your GP's machine if its not accurate enough return it and order another same basic model.

I started to look for a blood pressure monitor by checking websites such as the British Hypertension Society (BHS) [] and the Blood Pressure Association (BPA) []. Apparently, an upper-arm type can be more accurate than a wrist monitor. Also, the BHS clinically validate equipment to check accuracy and produce a list of those that pass their criteria. The Omron M2 Basic is both upper-arm and validated. Unlike more expensive models it only measures pressure and pulse rate, storing the last reading only. When properly used (the BHS has information on taking readings) it should be just as accurate as the 'bells & whistles' units. Supplied is the monitor, batteries (4 x AAA), standard arm cuff, instruction booklet, a chart to write down your results and draw a graph, and a soft plastic case to keep everything in. Optional extras include different sized cuffs for thin or thick arms and a 6V adaptor if you want to run it from the mains. The instruction book claims that alkaline batteries will last for 300 measurements, so perhaps the adaptor is a luxury you can live without.Potential confusion can arise because there is an M2 compact version with a larger memory, and an MX2 which has a display that alternates between pressure and pulse. I think the MX2 is an end-of-line model because it doesn't appear on Omron's []To summarise, if you want a simple-to-operate, clinically approved basic monitor from an established manufacturer, this has to be a top contender. It's guaranteed for 3 years, and it only cost me £[] with free super-saver delivery. You just can't go wrong at this price.

For anyone who is concerned about their blood pressure, this monitor is ideal for carrying out regular checks at home between visits to the doctor. It's inexpensive, and easy to use, though it can be a bit fiddly putting on the arm cuff one handed (but that would be true of any "upper arm cuff" monitor).Note that, as others have mentioned in their reviews, this monitor uses 4 'AAA' batteries, not 2 'AA' batteries as the current description indicates (I've notified Amazon of this, but they haven't updated the description yet).If you have large arms you might want to consider getting the large cuff (sold separately). I'm 5'4" and overweight because of health problems, and the standard cuff only *just* fits my upper arm (the velcro strips only *just* overlap when the cuff is fitted, and I have to hold it in place to stop it unfastening when the cuff inflates). I bought the large cuff, and it's a much better fit - very secure while the cuff inflates. There's even just enough room in the soft nylon case to hold both cuffs, the monitor unit, a spare set of batteries, plus the user manual and BP diary, so everything is kept neatly together in the case. The readings appear to be pretty accurate - they tend to be a bit lower than when the doctor measures my blood pressure, but I reckon that's largely the result of not really being relaxed when I'm seeing the doctor, compared to being able to check my BP at home in more relaxed surroundings.Overall, I'd definitely recommend this monitor for anyone who needs or wants to check their blood pressure regularly.

I've been testing this monitor nearly every day for the past two months and I've recorded 50 sets of two readings. So I wake up in the morning, sit in a chair and take a reading and then remove the cuff. I wait about a minute or two and then take another reading and record them both. All I'm doing is just sitting at my desk in a position as advised in the guidance and I'm making sure that the cuff arrow points towards the artery and the wire follows my arm etc, as advised. On the whole the readings are fairly consistent, I took these over three consecutive days (sys.dia.pulse):132.72.62 followed by 133.70.66131.64.67 followed by 129.62.64128.76.65 followed by 127.72.66But it can also throw in some inconstancies in the readings and I suspect that this depends on how tight you have the cuff. Here are a few random examples - these are not consecutive days:121.69.60 followed by 137.74.65122.67.66 followed by 138.74.65129.82.66 followed by 141.84.66You can see from my pulse that I'm not moving around between the first and second reading but there's quite a big difference. I suspect that the second time I put the cuff on I put it on tighter and this appears to be affecting the reading. As such, to get the best out of this monitor, I think you need to use it regularly and record your readings as this will help to absorb the inconsistencies. My plan is to produce an average of the two daily readings and use that to plot a graph to look for trends over a number of months or years, rather then relying on individual readings.

Having overly high or low blood pressure can be the sign of an underlying health problem, but thankfully the "Omron M2 Basic Blood Pressure Monitor" offers a very cost effective, quick and easy method of being able to monitor your own blood pressure and heart rate anywhere and at any time.Validated by British Hypertension Society and featuring a warning indicator should a reading be higher than the recommended levels, the monitor also features an easy to wrap cuff that goes around your arm, a crystal clear and simply LCD, one button operation, a handy carry case, and a two year warranty. On paper the product is sound and happily it was in practice too. It's quick and easy to set up and understand, not overly noisy, doesn't over inflate the cuff and is reasonably quick in giving a reading (though not as quick as some of the more expensive models). The monitor is very precise give almost exact same reading as my older monitor (a Philips model that seems to be on its way out.) Build quality is sound while also being light in weight, and even includes batteries and a card where you can record the readings over time. The cost is very cheap considering the build quality and features of the monitor. For little over a tenner it's an essential tool that has lay the mind at rest knowing that despite everything else at least you know you're keeping a close eye on blood pressure. The Omron M2 ticks all the boxes and is a great example of what a product should be and do.

Have being diagnosed with high blood pressure and then twice having my medication increased, I decided to take the problem seriously. The monthly visit to the doctor was not giving enough data to monitor my pressure, so I decdied to buy a manual type with stethascope. This was, more or less, a waste of money, because it's not easy to fit yourself and finding a pulse can also be difficult. I then decided to bite the bullet and spend out on a proper electronic BPM. I was delighted to find that the Omron M" Basic was available for less than £20 ( in fact only slighlty more than I paid for the other BPM). I now monitor my blood pressure on a regular basis and keep a chart showing the readings. On the odd occassion when I'm feeling a bit "off" I've used the M2 and found my Blood Pressure up, so I know it's giving me fairly accurate readings.I've had the Omron M2 for about 6 weeks now. It come with 4 AAA batteries which are still going fine. It's very easy to use and, when I went to the doctor, she found it much more useful to see a chart of my pressure readings over a month. And when she took my Blood Pressure at the surgery, it was with an Omron Machine.I'm in my late 50's, reasonably fit and only very slightly over-weight. I eat sensibly, drink moderately and have a low cholesteral count, so Blood Pressure wasn't going to be a problem for me -- WRONG!!!!Even if you think you're OK, it doesn't hurt to check!!

An excellent value, easy to use blood pressure meter. The Omron M2 is quick to set up: put the plastic fitting into the end of the cuff tubing, put the fitting into the hole in the meter, put in the supplied batteries and you're ready to go.I ordered a larger cuff with mine, which I'd recommend for most men who are more than medium build - the option to purchase with a large cuff, rather than the medium one would be better as it would save money, but given the M2's low price it's not really a problem. The cuffs are as you'd expect if you've ever had your blood pressure taken and have clear markings for where to position them on your arm to get a correct reading.Operation is simple. Once the cuff is on,press the button once and the cuff is inflated and then gradually reduces in pressure until it gives you your reading. The only thing I miss on the M2 compared to other meters is that it doesn't beep once it gives your reading or if you get an error (which I've only had once from misplacing the cuff on my arm.)The M2 only stores your last reading, hence the lower price, but as you can get free mobile apps for blood pressure tracking I don't think paying extra just to store readings is worth doing.Overall very happy with my purchase and will be taking it with me to my next doctor's appointment to check its readings are close to the docto'rs readings for reliability.

My doctor says my blood pressure is borderline high and will need to put me on medication if it can't be lowered naturally. To avoid medication I am trying to lower it by changing diet and getting a bit more exercise so I bought the Omron M2 to monitor my blood pressure myself rather than having to go to the doctor's each time. It has been absolutely brilliant! It was delivered very promptly and took me about 5 minutes to put in the batteries, scan the easy to read booklet and take my first reading. It is really easy to operate. My first reading was in line with the one taken by my doctor (allowing for the fact that you should add 5 to the reading, as advised by my doctor,to be comparable with the reading from the mercury based monitor the doctor uses). In the month since I have noticed the readings slowly starting to drop as I have cut right down on salt, etc., which is great from my point of view. I now take and record 3 readings a day and will take these with me when I next see the doctor to discuss progress. So, a great device, at a really good price, that is easy to set up and use and provides a reading whenever you want one without the inconvenience of having to go to the doctor's each time. I highly recommend it.

This Omron basic digital automatic blood pressure monitor is presented well packaged together with a generous zipped storage case and four AAA alkaline batteries required to power the unit. Also included in the package is an instruction booklet running to over 250 pages which appears daunting until one realises that only the first 34 are in English, the balance of the booklet being in a further eight languages. The instructions are simple to follow, the cuff comfortable and easy to attach and the monitor straight forward to operate. Illustrations in the booklet assist. The Omron appears accurate when checked against other monitors in my possession and also against one at my doctor's surgery.Themonitor has a memory to record the last reading only but does not have the capacity to allow readings to be downloaded to a computer which is slightly disappointing when compared to other similar monitors, but in fairness these may be more expensive to purchase. This appears to be a good user friendly basic blood pressure monitor for people wishing to check their blood pressures at home and useful for those, like me, who suffer from `white coat syndrome' and whose blood pressure is elevated in the doctor's surgery.

Having been diagnosed with hypertension thought I should invest in a home monitor so I can keep tabs on it and check whether medication is really necessary for myself.BP monitor comes in a small carry case with 4x AAA batteries, 22-32cm cuff, and the unit itself which is surprisingly neat with only a single button so it can be operated with ease. The LCD display is large and clear. The product is MUCH BETTER than my previous experiences with home monitors / hospital monitors. This monitor will not squeeze your arm off, instead it inflates at a slower rate when it senses the cuff tighten around your arm. Not only feels better but will probably lead to less stress with people who dislike the sensation of a BP cuff inflating. The cuff is also very comfortable and does not cause any irritation in my experience with it.I'm guessing not as accurate as a manual sphygmomanometer but taking 3 consecutive readings and then an average of that should be relatively accurate. You can then feedback these results to your Dr.More expensive options exist with memory functions etc but I find it easier just to make up a spreadsheet and use that as a record.Overall, would recommend this product. Hope this helps.

The 'M2 Basic' automatic upper arm monitor arrives in a sturdy, cleanly packaged cardboard box and has a fabric pouch (fits well, not too tight), an easy to understand instruction book and a set of batteries to get you going. You can also use it via a mains adaptor but that is not included with the package...not a great omission as the batteries are standard AAA and the machine performs just fine with them. The machine itself is compact with a large easy to read LCD that gives you pulse, systemic and diatolic blood pressure and various warning symbols, not forgetting a memory function! Very easy to use with the inflatable arm cuff working effectively and quickly and giving what appears to be accurate results. What came as a shock to us was that it accurately (as it turned out)highlighted that someone had blood pressure at a higher than desirable level. Something that would have gone unnoticed for quite some time without the early warning that this device provided and from which a visit to the doctors resulted. This in no way replaces measurements and analysis by professional medical staff but as an aid and early monitor, it really would appear invaluable.5/5 from very satisfied users.

Before I bought this I believed I was having high blood pressure from being stressed. It turns out I was right! So the best thing to do is to stop being stressed and stop letting people tell you to stop being stressed. Instead choose this device and let it tell you to stop being stressed and to listen to and to stop stressing. Also a good strong drink and some mind numbing T.V to let you forget your current stresses will help fool this machine into fooling you, making you believe that you are indeed a little less stressed when in fact you are drunk/unconscious and have in fact managed to raise you blood pressure and are not doing yourself any favours.Seriously though,if you are stressed and this little jobby tells you that you have high blood pressure, get out, do some exercise, quit that job that you hate and go and do something you enjoy with your life. Do that thing you have been dreaming about all these years. You've only got one life, live it, don't just sit there writing reviews on amazon telling other people to get out there and live there life whilst you're secretly suffering from stress and high blood pressure.... Hang on a minute who am I talking about again ;-)
