We’re a Lego family through and through but I have fond memories of Stickle Bricks from my childhood so a chance to try this blatant ‘compatible’ imitation of the Hasbro-owned ‘proper’ brand was definitely welcome. Our family has had a lot of fun with it, but it’s not going to trump our Lego, or even the Lego Duplo, any time soon. The idea is simple and in a way the combinations of shapes you can stick together feels more versatile, but what you can actually make with it is ultimately more limited and feels more pre-school- particularly in the figurines. The quality of this brand is absolutely fine though. We’ve had hit and miss experience with other ‘compatible’ brands but this is one of the good ones. The meshing together is strong enough to hold a bit of weight, but loose enough for our youngest child to be able to prise apart without any difficulty, so it’s just right for play-building. The colours are bold and primary and there’s a good range of them. The non-standard shapes are the weak point I think, with the family figures and animals looking decidedly babyish, with just a hint of disturbing. The carry case is nice and strong. 113 pieces is quite a weight, but the handle feels strong enough to carry it without any issues. 113 pieces also doesn’t fill the box completely so there is extra space available in case your children decide they want to pack something else in there as well! Even once the Bristle Blocks themselves have been outgrown by the kids, the case is going to still have some life left in it.At time of writing the asking price is over thirty quid and I’d have to say that doesn’t feel especially strong in terms of value- the more well-known Stickle Bricks brand is competitively priced by comparison, especially in some of their Build It Big Boxes. So it doesn’t score too well for value, and the people and animal figurines are a weak point, but in any other respect, this feels like a good way to get into a construction toy that gives you a bit of a break from Lego!

I have wonderful memories of Sticklebricks and this case of 113 pieces is much the same. There are in fact 104 interlocking building pieces, 9 figurines and the storage case. The red plastic clasps on the light blue, plastic, translucent storage case are rather flimsy and whereas I have no doubt that the ‘Bristle Blocks’ will last for years, I am not so sure that this will be the case with the case! I understand that ‘Bristle Blocks’ is not necessarily compatible with the older version of Sticklebricks. There is a red plastic carry handle. These different sized building blocks are variously brightly coloured and are great for children aged 2 years and over. They encourage vision and imaginary engineering.Building ideas on the labelling can stimulate the creative juices - however unless you have more than just this kit, only one model displayed can be assembled. I think it would have been better to display the construction ideas on the inside of the case, to preserve the integrity of the patterns. The cardboard outer will no doubt become shabby and will be consigned to the bin in time. The blocks are easy to assemble and put together and hand to eye co-ordination skills are developed as is social play. What is more, this is old-fashioned educational fun with not a screen or technology in sight. No batteries required! Please do look at pricing. This currently retails for £33.34 (Amazon November 2019) and I have been able to source the same product elsewhere and over £8 cheaper. There were no fewer than 10 plastic bags used in sealing these pieces. Whilst the plastic proudly displays that it is recyclable, reduction in plastic waste should be encouraged and it is time for the manufacturers to heed this ticking time bomb.

We have owned many building toys, but "bristle blocks" like these are among the family favorites, along with LEGO and MagnaTiles.I think it's mostly because of the many creative possibilities. Certain building toys connect in a way that kind of limits the creative possibilities, e.g. Zoobs, which never really clicked with my kids. The bristle blocks connect in a really fun way, on all sides, which is actually more flexible than Lego, if you think about it. You can really make some cool stuff. I also like the addition of oddball-shaped pieces, wheels, and the family of figures and animals in this set - this really expands the creative possibilities even further! They are also extremely easy for even the youngest kids to use.Lego can be tough to put together and take apart for young kids (even Duplo... you still have to line up the parts right...) These stick together in almost limitless ways/alignments, and it's VERY easy to do so.My only gripe is that the little nubs can break off (they haven't with this new set, but they did on older sets), but the pieces still work for the most part even when that happens! Also, one of the family figures broke off of it's piece, but it was relatively easy to fix. Finally, the little suitcase the set comes in is REALLY appreciated storage.Overall, I highly recommend bristle blocks for all the reasons above - great toy!

A fantastic large set of Bristle Block's 113 pice to be exact and it comes packed away in a secure storage case with sliding clips to close the lid.The sliding clips I did find to be a bit flimsy and this for me was the only minus with this the storage case itselfThese are like the stickle bricks of old and My 2-year-old grandson had a fun time with this. He's still a tad young to be interested in making the models and personally I think this would suit a slightly older child like around 4 but ultimately it's going to come down to your own child's ability. My grandson had a whale of a time throwing them around and grandad himself enjoyed the building more (he's such a big kid). This had on thepackaging itself models you can build but It does stress only enough pieces to build one at a time. These fit together well and the bricks themselves re of a good quality. This is a great set just a shame about the storage box itself.

Lots of fun building things - either using the guide pictures on the sturdy plastic case it comes in or designing as the child imagines. The blocks stick together easily with the multi prongs or bristles (I remember stickle bricks from years past, this seems to be the same idea with a different name). The set comes with lots of shapes and colours and there are a few figures of animals as well as people (see photo). There are quite a few wheels for making various vehicles - good for younger children who wouldn't be able to follow the more complicated lego designs. It isn't cheap but should have plenty play value and as the pieces are larger in the main than lego and don't need quite as much hand/eye coordination to stick them firmly together it is a good set for toddler age and up.I like that it is in a solid plastic case rather than a cardboard box for ease of tidying away and keeping all the bits together.

These Bristle Blocks are a very similar idea to the Stickle Bricks that I used to love playing with as a child. In a good sized plastic case with carry handle and sliding clasps you get 104 construction pieces and 9 character pieces - including a family and some farmyard animals. The character pieces are actually quite a decent size with the larger grown-ups being about 4 inches tall. The construction pieces vary in size and shape from long rectangular pieces, to smaller square and triangular shaped pieces. Our Berties has just turned two and has really enjoyed playing with this set. At the moment he’s just fascinated by the bright and tactile nature of the blocks themselves, and less concerned with building anything. There are examples of some things that you can build on the packaging, but there are no set build instructions - it’s just a general imaginative play set and I rather liked that idea.

This is a good value starter set, with a varied selection of colours and shapes. The plastic is high quality and has a good finish to it. The case looks good, at least to start with (see below). The blocks are, as claimed, easy to put together for a child of 2 and up.There are enough pieces to easily make a small house and a car.The blocks lock together fairly well, though not as securely as StickleBricks. This can be frustrating, especially when building something with lots of interconnections, as the risk of it coming apart is increased. The case isn’t as reliable as it could be; any stress can cause it to twist, so that the locks undo and the contents spill out. This is a pity, as you always want a good,long-lasting case for a set like this.

I was dubious about buying Bristle blocks, after reading a number of reviews that said they didnt fit together properly etc. I found that they do exactly what I expected them to do. They fit together well, though not too difficult to push together, and the colours are good, and there are lots of interesting shapes, none of them too small, including 6 wheels. The bonus feature is the set of figures of a family and farm animals, which my 18 month old boy really likes. He is more into making the animal sounds than he is into building farmhouses or tractors at the moment, but I'm sure he will grow into it.So maybe the company have sorted out the kinds of problems that others were experiencing - I just bought this box for Christmas 2013.

These bristle blocks from Battat are an outstanding introduction to connecting building blocks. Our 3 year old has loved building blocks for years. We got him a number of Duplo sets and he enjoyed putting the blocks together but his creativity just exploded with this bristle block set. I am not sure why but his creations became more detailed and you could actually tell what he was building. These are easy to put together and take apart so they require less parental involvement. My son is happy sitting there playing with these for hours. This particular set is also very good quality and incredibly durable.I stepped on one in the middle of the night and it didn't hurt nearly as bad as a Lego!

We got this and the cylindrical set too, and the good news is everything fits in this case, so clearing up and storing is taken care of. From a kid's point of view these blocks are great, but it's perhaps worth parents being aware that they are apparently not the same as the Stickle Bricks that we remember from our own childhoods. Furthermore, I don't think these blocks will continue with the same kind of long-lived playability of Lego, so if you want to minimise the environmental footprint and only going to buy one large pile of plastic, I'd opt for Lego - more versatile, proven quality and appealing to all ages, even if it's sometimes very pricy.

These are a great little case of bristle blocks, our Grandson loves them, we've had cars, planes, lots of houses with fences ! Different shapes and sizes and different colours, so that it's a good way to help learn colours and shapes too. Ideal that you can tidy them all away in the case (they aren't good to stand or kneel on). He plays with them on a solid floor, and a play mat, I would think if played with on a carpet or rug, you might pick up hairs and fluff on them. He did get some lunch on one, but his mum washed it off with soapy water and it was fine. A good set

We discovered these a few years ago (well I rediscovered them, because I vaguely remember playing with them as a kid). My kids really love them. They correspond well with the Stackadoos and Spinaroos from the same brand. We combined all the set and my kids have them ALL OVER THEIR PLAYROOM, lol. But the upside is that they play with them for literally hours.Downsides:1. They will attract any loose strands of hair that you'll shed throughout the day. Fortunately, they're not too hard to clean.2. They HURT to step on. And you WILL step on at least one a day, lol.

A good set of bristle bricks for a younger child. There is a varied selection of bricks in the box with lots of different sizes and colours which could make lots of creations. The box lid sliding catches could be stronger than they were as they did keep sliding across, but the box itself looks good. It would make a great gift for a child. It may be considered quite pricey, but looking at the cost of other well-known building bricks, I think it is competitively priced. Hours of endless fun for any younger child...and any adult helping!

Fantastic set of bristle blocks , nice bright colors and a variety of shapes and sizes , wheels ,family people and farm animals .A brilliant building blocks system easy to use , connects quite easily together, a sturdy plastic but flexible at the same time -all came in a pretty plastic case easy to tidy up .This activity is great for keeping the children busy for a long period of time , good for developing their imagination and fine motor skills also for social - personal and emotional skills. Personally I would recommend this for 3+

This product is really good. The playing experience is similar to that of Lego but actually I felt there was a little more freedom in what you could make. The bristles stick together really easily and come apart easily too, making it good for younger and older children. My 1 year old and 5 year old nephews played together with it quite happily as the 1yo could make some very basic structures (structures is being kind really) while the 5yo made more developed things. This is one of those toys that will be played with again and again.
