My first experience of Astro was with their original, flagship-A40s. They were expensive (at £200), but given their versatility I felt like this was justified. All Astro headsets (except the Astro + M80) are compatible with pretty much any modern console you can name - as well as your phone, tablet, PC or TV - which is excellent. They were a fantastic set-up too, particularly for first person shooters, where the mid-range focus was most useful.HOWEVER.If I was going to be spending big money, I really wanted EVERYTHING and the A40s fell just short in a few key areas. The lower and upper ranges just weren't there. The result was that when watching movies or listening to music,I was never fully satisfied with the ouput. Furthermore, they were huge and my ears could get quite hot after a time. Although, I do have huge ears, so... ?Anyway, the A30 was my next choice and they were a much better fit. Firstly, they had even output at all ranges. This meant good quality across the board - a key factor for me. Whether watching movies, listening to music or playing search and destroy, I was dialled right in.The A30's are also far more versatile in the sense that you could conceivably take them out and about and not look like a TOTAL nonce. The portability was especially useful for going travelling for fun or with work.The headset is also well-built. I cannot comment on more recent revisions of the headset, but mine has lasted more or less since launch and it is still going strong despite travelling around the world with me, and following me into some pretty harsh environments, and back out again. The build quality has therefore been exceptional. I must be approaching a decade of use now.Finally, the A30s are cheaper than the A40s and A50s. If one then accounts for the overall lack of compromise these headphones pack, then it becomes easy to see why I prefer them.There are few drawbacks for this headset too. Firstly, although the A30s are more comfortable, when you wear glasses, they can press your ears onto the frame. I had therefore a greatly reduced - but still noteworthy - experience similar to the A40s. Secondly, the technology utilised (Dolby headphone) for the mixamp has no vertical staging. If you hear someone right next to you, they could also be upstairs... This issue is common across all Astros.In summary then, the A30s are exceptional value for money in my eyes. They have the maximum versatility one could expect from a headset, perform at very high levels of quality and are built to last. My launch-price investment of (I think) about £180 in 2009 was one of the best tech decisions I have made in my life. In my work, I therefore wholeheartedly recommend this headset to all of my customers.

this is the 2012-2013 model witch had a issue with power drop, the fix for it was to replace the usb power cable took me a while to find the old forum online, it now works seamlessly i would recommend this to anyone, its great if your doing tasks with watching tv late at night, as i have a output from sky box to the mixamp so i can adjust the volume, headset quality is great cant fault it at all Dolby surround sound work amazingly.i would just say when buying buy a usb cable for it the one that comes with it is rubbish.

My Astro a40's broke and I needed a replacement and at the same time thought it would be a good idea to upgrade my mixamp this package was not only really cheap but came as a complete set, have used the headset on my phone on a plane and with my ps4 and the headset is excellent. Not as submissive as the a40's but at half the price with a mix amp who could complain

I received mine yesterday a lovely premium peace of kit... I rate theses high than my Xbox elite controller for value for money... only down fall Im still required to buy a 2.5 mm to 3.5 mm cable to go from amp to head set. Just bought now tho

Worked fine for a month but the plastic is not that durable and it snapped, microphone stopped working and started breaking down after a while, I took the little rubber protector from the microphone and it fixed it, 4/5

This is worth it just for the AMP as it is more versatile (works on both XB and PS) and has more natural (rather than metallic overly tampered with DTS of other gaming options) sound than the newer mixamps.

purchased these on Tuesday and they arrived on Thursday at 11am. very pleased, they do not smell of smoke at all they are brand new. very happy ad very pleased with fast delivery :)

Sound quality is above and beyond anything i have previously experienced! Feels like i'm not wearing headphones at all and listening to HI-Fi quality speakers
