♦ Introduction ♦The 'New Gold Wireless Headset' by Sony is a mid-ranged wireless headset that boasts a bang for your buck when it comes to quality; with '7.1 Virtual Surround Sound' and a bunch of other sound profiles available through the 'Headset Companion App', you can get the most out of your gaming sessions with audio tailored to your needs.I've owned every single model of Sony's Official PlayStation Wireless headsets and have seen them improve over the years. The original Gold headset otherwise known as the 'Wireless Stereo Headset 2.0' was one of my favourite headsets of all time: They were comfortable, offered decent audio quality and were available for a reasonable price. The 'New'Gold headset aims to improve on what is already considered a quality headset (averaging 4.3 out of 5 stars out of 1,400+ Amazon reviews). So what's different about the 'New' Gold headset? First of all, it has a more sleek, slimmer and lightweight design which I found to be a major improvement, however the compromise is to lose the folding design which made them easier to pack away; that said, there were complaints about the weak joints on the previous model if not treated with care, whereas you will not have to worry about that issue on this model. The design is now more suited for VR use, with the slimmer design, the headset doesn't get in the way of the VR headgear.Apparently, the microphones have been "upgraded" with hidden dual noise cancelling microphones as well as better audio from the headset altogether. There's been no real change with comfort (in a good way) because they're just as comfortable despite the ear-cushions not feeling as soft; even as a glasses wearer, I find these to be comfortable to wear, just like the older version. As for what hasn't improved... That would be the battery as you will get around 7 hours of use which is not that much better if at all than the previous model, which is a shame as the previous version came out 4 years ago! That's plenty of time to find a way to increase battery life, especially when other competitors have wireless headsets that can last around 15 hours; but is it a deal breaker? No, just a little disappointing.♦ Box Contents ♦∙ NEW Gold Headset.∙ USB Dongle*.∙ Micro USB charging cable (very short).∙ Stereo Cable (4 ft. length).∙ Instruction Manual.*DO NOT lose the USB dongle as you cannot get a replacement; if you do lose it, you will have to use them via a stereo cable where you will also no longer be able to use the headset to its full potential.♦ Headset Set-Up ♦If you're using it with the VR, you will have to connect it to the VR in-line cable via the stereo cable, just like you would have to with any other headset when connecting to the VR. If you want to use it wired, plug it into the controller via the stereo cable (you do not need to turn the headset on, nor does the headset need power when using it these ways).- Wireless Set-Up:1) Insert USB dongle into the PS4.2) Power up the PS4 and log into your account.3) Turn the headset on.4) The PS4 should automatically connect to the headset. If there is no audio, go to the audio device settings and ensure they have been selected and that the audio is set to 'All Audio' not 'Chat Only'.Once everything is all set-up, if you're in a chat and you can only hear game audio but not your friends, the headset as a chat/game ratio button; press on the 'chat' side to bump up the volume in favour to chat. If you can only hear chat audio but not your game, do the same but ensure to press on the 'game' side. Once you're happy with the ratio, adjust the overall 'volume' button to your liking. If you want to hear yourself a bit whilst talking, the headset does have a sidetone feature which can be enabled by holding down the mute button for approximately a second; it's not the best sidetone I've had on a headset, but it does the job decently.♦ Comfort, Range & Sound Quality ♦If it's one thing I truly can't complain with, it's the comfort. With these being so lightweight and having decent pads along the headband and ear-cushions, this headset is extremely comfortable to wear. As a glasses user, I can vouch that I had no issues during a 2 hour gaming session. When it comes to range, providing there is NOTHING between the dongle and headsets line of sight, you won't have any issue in a decent sized living room, however put a shelf in the way and it struggles to the point I can barely go further than 2m without it cutting off.As for audio quality, it's nothing short of superb. The audio quality is crystal clear and has very decent directional sound which helped in games such as Fortnite. To me, the audio seemed extremely well balance and I have no complaints in that department. Finally, microphone quality... It's just average, very, very average. It's not bad but it's not exactly good either. My friends say I'm clear enough to understand which for most people is good enough, however if you're the type of person who likes share playing with your voice being recorded, you may be disappointed.♦ Final Opinion ♦The best features this headset has to offer are definitely comfort and overall game audio quality, but lacks in microphone quality and range.Overall, this is a decent headset available for what I believe to be a very reasonable price; I think most people will be happy with their purchase, but at the same time I can see how people may be equally disappointed, so do check the positive and negatives of this headset and see if it's the right one for you.✔ Pros:✓ Sleek & lightweight design.✓ Durable build.✓ Comfortable to wear for longer gaming sessions.✓ Fantastic audio quality.✓ Easy to use.⸗ Neutral:- Battery not improved since last model.✖ Cons:✘ Poor wireless strength.✘ Very average microphone.

Overall after 9 months of use, I am very happy with this headset taking into consideration the retail price and quality of the product. What's in the boxPS4 Gold HeadsetUSB (type-A to micro-B) charging cable3.5mm audio cableWireless USB adaptor for PS4, PC and Mac.The GoodLightweight with solid build quality7.1 Surround sound with 3D Audio when used with VREasy to pick up and play with great adjustability & lack of wires8 Hours of battery lifeThe BadRequires a USB Wifi dongle for wireless PS4 connectivityBecome uncomfortable around the ears after roughly 2 hours of useWifi dongle does not work very well with PCSound QualityThe sound quality is excellent for the price with balanced audio levelsand fantastic virtual surround sound making it great for use in VR or shooting games such as fortnite or Apex. You can very clearly hear where bullets or footsteps may be coming from and that has helped tremendously with my recent games of Apex. With the companion app found on the PlayStation store, you can change the EQ settings for the headset and save preset sound modes on the headset. So if you play one genre much more heavily, for example, shooting games, you can tweak things for an even more enhanced experience. In regards to the surround sound effect, you only get virtual surround sound when using these headphones with VR or wirelessly with the PS4. If you use the 3.5mm jack with any other device this is only a stereo 2.0 headset. If you use these for music or movies they are good enough for the average user but don't expect to be blown away. I would have liked slightly more bass and depth for my own personal music tastes but I appreciate these are designed for games.ComfortThese headphones have mechanically adjustable ear cups that clicks with each adjustment. They also stretch very easily without feeling like they will break so should accommodate all head sizes including when using them with the PlayStation VR headset. The ear cups are a soft leather material and do sit comfortably over the ears. Sadly though after around 2 hours of use, they do start to irritate around my ears and become uncomfortable.MicrophoneI have played in party chat on both PS4 and Xbox One with this headset and no one has ever had a problem hearing me talk and I am told I come through clear without distortion or breaking up. I also like the fact there is not a microphone wire in my face getting in the way, it makes these a very easy pick up and play headset to talk to people.Battery LifeSony estimate around 8 hours of battery life from this headset. This is something I would agree with, I don't play for very long gaming sessions anymore but rarely need to recharge it and have never completely run out of battery during a session unexpectedly. Similar to the PS4 controller, the PS4 will let you know when your headset battery is low which is helpful.Build QualityThe build quality is very good, the headset is light but can be stretched and adjusted without worrying they are going to snap or break. The earcups have a soft foam padding that so far after almost 1 year of use do not show signs of becoming worn out. Please Note - Even though Sony advertise that the WIFI dongle also works with PC I would personally disagree. It does work and connects to my Windows PC without any problem but I had a major issue where I could not adjust the volume and the base volume was too quiet for my personal taste. This bug i could not find a fix for.

The wireless headphones are great. The sound and bass is amazing. Watching movies with these headphones gives the cinema experience with very powerful bass reproduction. On the PlayStation it has 7.1 virtual surround and even Netflix recognised it as a surround device and allows 5.1 audio. These headphones look great with the Last of Us part 2 design and branding. It has very good quality fake leather ear bud cushions, the headband has soft faux leather wrapped around with cushioned faux leather stitched to the underside of the headband with the Ellie fern tattoo design on the left side. There’s a last of us 2 logo embossed in the headband. The speaker covers has red fabric. The box is made from solid cardboard, with very cool last of us design. The headphones is very comfy to use. All of the buttons for it is located around the left ear piece. It has built in microphone with noise cancelling. You can download a headphone app for this headphone on the PlayStation 4 for free and you can upload default and gaming presets. There’s no preset for last of us 2 btw. It only has 7.1 virtual surround on PlayStation only. It works as wireless on Games consoles and PC. On other devices like tablet and phones, it works as a wired headphone. Cables included. The negative things is that there is a very slight hiss sound in Bluetooth mode, but it’s a very quiet hiss that you can just about hear when there’s no audio. The virtual surround only works on the PS4 and the programmable second preset can only be set using a PS4 via the headphones app.Overall it’s a must have for last of us fans and it’s a great looking headphones with very amazing audio and cinema like bass.

I got his headset after returning a Corsair headset due to the lack of surround sound compatibility with PS4. This one is perfect for PS4 gamers. The built in mics are nothing special in terms of sound quality, but they are a nice feature and mean that there’s no detachable boom getting in the way or lost!Battery life is good, but unlike other headsets I’ve owned in the past it doesn’t shut down when your turn off your console so be sure to switch it off after use. If the battery does die during a session you can plug the 3.5mm jack into the headset and controller and use it as a wired headset! All of the controls are on the left earcup (including mute)and sometimes it’s difficult to locate quickly without taking off the headset and double checking, but I’m sure this is just because it’s a new set up for me.My favourite feature is how it interacts with the PS4. You get a little notification (similar to when you first turn on a controller) which shows you battery life, whether you have surround sound activated and the status of the mic. There’s also an companion app which you can download on your console and customise your settings. You can also save 2 versions of these settings which you can easily switch between using a button on the headset.Although hesitant at first, I’m very glad I got this headset and and despite is rather simple looking design, it’s still a very good headset for the price!

Tried these for first time last night on audio setting playing Cyberpunk 2077. Didn't use microphone/Chat, but very impressed with sound quality; picks up little sounds I wouldn't otherwise have noticed, and in proper stereo with noises coming from either ear or both. Previously played games on TV speaker so this is awesome and makes you appreciate game so much more!Has dedicated PlayStation Headset app downloadable free from the PS Store direct onto your PS4 homescreen that has preset modes for several popular games (e.g. Metal Gear Solid, God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn), or you can use several "standard" settings or indeed tailor your own. Just hope microphone is good quality, but as it runs on 2.4hz , not Bluetooth, I'm hopeful there.Comes with charging cable which plugs into USB slot on PS4, which is otherwise holding the dongle this headset needs to work. Also comes with 3.5mm jack cable for use with mobile devices. They look awesome too, pretty rose gold colour, by far most attractive headset I've seen, alongside my daughter's lavender wired Turtle Beach pair. Only marked it down a star owing to comfort aspect; wore it last night for about three hours and right ear felt squished afterwards. Maybe just need to get used to them, will update at later date, :)

I've used them for a few months for ps4 gaming, watching TV on ps4 and laptop; nintendo switch gaming, listening to music/playing piano and for taking work calls. I haven't tried it wireless for calls but have used it for gaming and watching TV.I find them comfortable and quite sturdy, they fit completely over my ears. The cushion isn't too soft and isn't too hard. Comes with headphone jack which is great for when its run out of battery. However, you can't adjust the volume this way and it isn't loud enough, but its ok. The wireless sound for me is great especially for watching tv and gaming, I read some reviews that said they aren't loud enough but I think they are.I only use the mic for taking work calls and I've been told its mostly clear but sometimes its not.Wireless lasts around 7 hours and charge time I think is around 30-40 mins, not too long. Was initially considering Turtle Beach Stealth 600 which is around the same price but it doesn't come with a heapdhone jack. I prefer the choice so I can still use them when they need to be charged. I've listened to music a few times and the bass is good. So its a good all rounder, worth the price. Didn't buy from Amazon, bought from GAME.

I say this rarely, but I genuinely don't think there is a single thing I would change about this product. Its incredibly comfortable, doesn't get too hot and sounds great even when compared to much more expensive headsets. I've started using it for music too. It has both wired and wireless function (incredibly useful). It would be nice if you could connect it to a phone directly via bluetooth (without the dongle) - but that's a small complaint. The surround sound is truly game changing if you're moving from stereo only. I've dropped these (hard) several times and they're totally fine. Great quality. Mic is okay (but I don't really use it).TLDR:prosWell made and durableLovely designComfortable (even for 8h+ of wear)Not too hotGreat soundNice surround sound (when wireless)- not quite dolby atmosWired and wireless connectionsGood charge speed and battery lifeGreat price (good value).Buttons in sensible places.Cons:Can lose the dongleNo direct BT connectivityMic could be better (but is passable)No idea about how water proof they areCompanion app is completely pointless.

Nothing less that I would expect from a Sony Product. For those who worry about the dongle, I have plugged it on the back USB of my PS4 Pro and works fine, leaving free the front ports and aesthetic of the console. You should be aware the dongle can be used with Windows, Mac but also IPad and IPhones. Google around and you will find what you need.If you are having cut-offs, make sure your router is not near the PS4, if it it, you should take an extension to move away the dongle. Some people dont know why an extension is needed, because when they do use one, they automatically move the dongle a click away from things, and they think its magic, but it is not. This is not something happening with this wireless headphones model, big brands using wireless such as Sennheiser are having this issue and the solution is to move the transmitter away from the wi-fi router, as this is a matter of technology between the audio wireless and wi-fi bands used. Remember, this not Bluetooth, so moving to 5ghz will not help, you need to move away from it.Bonus note: Fits well a 10 years old child.

Bought these for prime day as well as had an additional five pounds off for which made these a steal. Thanks amazon for having a prime day and for lowering the price of the exact headphones I wanted.Sound is amazing and is so immersive whilst playing your games. Have been told by my online gaming friends that my microphone sounds much better compared to my previous headphones (as i have read bad reviews about the mic quality) and the headphones themselves are surprisingly light. Battery life on them is not an issue for me as I make it a point not to do whole day gaming sessions and the charge time is quick.Cons. The cones are as follows but are really small in the overall quality of the headphones. The buttons I would have liked to have felt a little more sturdy given the brand reputation and the asking price of the headphones normally. It would have been nice if it came with some type of holder to place your headphones on when not in use. Finally, if you do wear these for a fair amount of hours, they will start to tire out the area of your head surrounding your ears.

I had a lot of issues with my previous headsets (Kotion each G2600 and turtle beach ear recon 50p) where I would join a party or game chat. I could hear everyone. But they couldn’t hear me. After lots of effort chasing through settings and trolling through forums for answers I never found. I decided to go to a PS4 official headset. The box is well set out. You get the blurb booklets. A usb dongle. A audio jack (needed for the VR kit) charging cable and the headset....usb dongle is just like any other usb stick. Straight forward plug and play.I haven’t used the audio jack as I don’t have the VR kit yetCharging cable is kinda small but not a massive issue. The headset is very comfortable to wear. The over the ear earpieces are a good size and they do not get hot when wearingOn the left headset you have all the buttons. Mute microphone. Volume up and down. VSS (virtual surround sound) Sound/Chat up and down. This edits the volume from game and party chat. If you want to hear the chat more than the game or the game more than the chat. Then charging and jack ports.

Had this since Christmas - it's a lovely headset that is lightweight and can handle a good few hours play comfortably. I like that there is no mic sticking out of the side and surprisingly, it picks up my audio well to team mates. It did take me a while to get the set up right though - it's not that easy straight out of the box and I was close to returning it as I couldn't get chat audio through at all to begin with.Make sure you spend enough time aligning the game/chat audio properly - I had game at full blast without realising. Companion app is ok, no real need for it apart from pairing and updatesI would also stress, if you are using a third party aftermarket controller (I use the Nacon Revolution unlimited)that two usb ports seem to really heat up my PS4 Pro and have had a few overheating moments - so usual stuff applies about cleaning it from dust. The battery also seems to be less effective as when I got it 7 months ago.I'd recommend this though, I previously had an Astro A40 which was so much heavier and its making a difference!

The sound quality surprised me, these are really well balanced headphones. Not too much bass, and the highs don't get washed out. Really good for gaming and watching movies on your PS4. You can use the PlayStation headset app to add custom EQ profiles for a handful of games, and more generic ones as well. The "Virtual Surround Sound" is more like really wide stereo sound, but is a nice touch. The only thing that lets it down is the microphone, which is built into the ear cups, so not exactly well placed for picking up your voice. A few times people have struggled to hear me but you can increase the sensitivity in the settings on your PS4. There's no noise cancellation of any kind,if that's something you need, with these on even at high volumes you coild still hear someone sat next to you talking.Battery life has been good, and I like the Last Of Us 2 design on them. One other strange thing is the PS4 headset app that has custom game profiles, doesn't seem to have one for The Last Of Us 2 despite this headset existing ...

I bought this to replace an old PS4 headset. I’ll get straight to the point. This gold edition sounds and feels great. It’s extremely light, unlike its predecessor. It adjusts easily, charges quickly and sports the same familiar control layout. The sound is very crisp with the option of adding extra bass by way of the app you can get from the PlayStation store. The app also gives you options to set the ? up with a variety of settings such as shooter, action etc depending on what you’re playing. I will say that due to the light feel of them they come across a quite cheap feeling but when you look at them they are very robust and could survive a drop or two without issue.Be good if they folded for better storage but this is just nit picking. Audio is clear, explosions slamming into your ears like the hulk into iron man. I jumped out of my skin playing Destiny 2 as the thrall gathered around me. The old headset used to make me sweat as it got very hot. Don’t get that issue with this set. Fully recommended.

This is my third pair of PS4 Wireless Gold headphones, but the first one of the current generation. While the mic, the overall sound quality, and particularly the surround sound are exceptional (for the modest price at least), these have taken an unfortunate step back in general comfyness on your head. The last gen of these headphones were simply amazing to wear for hours at a time with minimal discomfort, but the cans on these are smaller and also press slightly harder on to the sides of your head and ears. Sadly this makes them significantly less enjoyable to wear for extended PS4 sessions. Ideally you shouldn't notice that you are wearing headphones at all if they are designed well, but that's not the case with these ones. They also lack the option to fold them like the previous version, but hopefully this will at least resolve the biggest issue of that previous version whereby they would eventually develop terminal cracks in the headband and need to be replaced!
