Don't usually write reviews so here it goes.. I'm not going to bother with the set up etc as it's very simple and enough people have written about that. Many moons ago I decided to get a gaming headset I went all out spending £250 on a pair of Astro A30 metal gear solid 4 edition. The A30 had great separation but my opinion really lacked in low end. This kept me from buying gaming headsets for a long time (and I mean a long time) fast forward many years and these drew me in namely 50mm drivers, if used correctly can produce some good bass, mids and trebles. Also the fact sony has it's own 3d surround which gives atmos esque sound.Right straight into the first negatives lack of support for the 3d sound it needs to be said that Sony should of gone with future proofing here and supported atmos headphone technology rather than waiting for studios to configure their games to the platinum headset. That being said you get a convincing 7.1 surround sound that had me pulling off some incredible reactive movements in a John Wick like manor. Staying on the subject of sound i tested these on destiny 2 and project cars as i float between sim racing and destiny. In destiny 2 sound tracks sound incredible. Voice acting sounded bassy when speaking to zavala and other characters sounded incredible. Now onto the most important surround sound, gunfire and explosions. As I said surround I was able to pull of reactive movements when enemies behind me the had my guardian dancing in a maelstrom of bullets and beautiful chaos. Explosions sounded incredible rich and deep however could be more punchy and the echo from my sniper rifle echoed sound into the distance. Environmental sounds can be heard with the sound track blending perfectly. But how much of this is the headset and how much is the game engineering is yet to be seen I used the uncharted preset for the game which worked wonders with the blend of soundtrack and the action. To my dissapoinment racing preset is not present here which would of been nice as I am not a sound engineer to create my own preset. SONY KEEP IT SIMPLE. Playing project cars they sound decent maybe I need to play around with the sound but I will see what suits it best after gran turismo sport comes out as it's a first party game should have a programmed setting.Closure.This is a great sounding headset and you are getting more than your money's worth in build quality and feel however as stated in the above review SONY ATMOS HEADPHONE technology unless you can get other studios on-board. The reliabilty of the wireless can be questioned as it doesnt happen often but on occasions does drop out for less than a couple of seconds as for the time being not often we will see how it copes later in its life. I'm not biased this is an honest review I have money to buy more expensive headphones but was drawn to Sony with these. I hope in the future their will be more support or Sony upgrade to atmos enabled technology.

EDIT 3*** (Edits 1 and 2 came before this, i will leave them there as it details the process I had to go through before getting a working headset)I have purchased a third headset from Argos and there is no buzzing! I haven't had the headset for long but from what I've read, if it doesn't buzz straight away then you should be fine. This is what I've done. I waited until all original stock of the headset was gone before buying from a new batch. The new batches DO NOT BUZZ so I will be rating this product purely on how good it is and not the issues it had at launch.Really good sound quality, definitely an improvement over the Gold headset. Very comfortable and easy to customise using the companion app,and music sounds good through them too. The mic isn't brilliant but is an improvement over the Golds. If you're looking for a headset with a really good mic there are much better options for much less. I recommend the Tritton Kama headset as the sound quality is really good, mic is very clear and very little background noise and only costs £20. The compromise is that it is only stereo and is not wireless.*****What follows is no longer an issue if you have a headset from new stock*****Although, I'm having an issue where if a USB cable is not connected to charge the headset I get a buzzing noise. This will only stop if I plug the USB back in.This may just be a fault for my headset though, I've contacted Sony and will update this review once I have a response, to 5 star if this issue is resolved.*EDIT*After a few emails with playstation getting me no where, I have returned my headset. Everything I've said prior in this review is still true, but as I have seen that many other people are experiencing the same buzzing issue as me I am lowering my rating.I will likely still be buying another pair to see if the buzzing was a one off, but if the second pair also have issues, I will be lowering this even further.A £130 headset by Sony should not have basic issues like theses, especially when the previous model worked perfectly and still does after years of use.*EDIT 2*I purchased a second headset from argos and I have the exact same issue as before. I will be keeping this headset as the buzzing isn't an issue so long as sound is coming through the speakers, but it is still disappointing that Sony has not spoke out about the issue as of yet.It seems that the fault may be due to a grounding issue causing a build up of charge. This would explain why it only occurs when not plugged in because while the wire is connected, it acts as a route to ground. Although what ever the cause is, with it being so common, it is likely a fundamental issue with the design of the headset, and unlikely to be an error with the manufacturing.

I didn't buy these through Amazon. I got them from my local retailer but thought I'd share my feelings on them. After getting complaints from friends and neighbours regarding my surround system while playing games I was very upset with the thought of switching to using headphones, after months of having them I like them more than my external speakers. The sound they produce is crystal clear, using the 7.1VSS they sound amazing in games, I can definetely feel a sense of surround in them however subtle compared to a proper multi speaker setup. The microphone quality I am told I can be heard clearly and can hear other people clearly, there is a adjustment switch on the side to lower the chat volume in favour of game volume.I tend to keep mine in the middle at full overall volume. They are comfortable to wear for long periods but at first they were not, I needed to find the right adjustment for me and wear them in. After a fortnight I can't even feel them on my head. The build quality is great for the price and they are quite lightweight. They conveniently connect to the PS4/PC via a single USB wireless transmitter for both chat and game audio, no more wires between me and the controller is welcome. They take about 2 hours to charge from empty and can be charged while playing. When charged I get about 10 hours out of them and there is an on screen battery indicator on the PS4.You can use the headset companion app on the PS4 to cusomise the bass and treble settings and even download fine tuned game audio for specific titles that support the 3D audio feature and load them into the headset itself.I did consider Astro A50's before these but at the price I went for these instead and I'm very happy with them. I doubt the Astro's could offer much more at double the price and all the extra wires that they need. From now on it's headphones for me. I love them, never again will I bother with a fortune in surround systems when these offer a subtle but good approach and I'm not disturbing everyone around me.If you can afford them I reccommend them. I've used the Sony Gold 2.0 headset and these are way better sound quality. I'd get these over the cheaper ones.

Competition is quite tough in this price bracket. I found many headsets, each with plenty of pros and cons. For me personally, this ticks most of the boxes but they are definitely not perfect.Pros:+ Good connectivity. You can connect via a USB dongle which works on PCs and laptops. Or connect via the audio jack.+ The headset looks stylish and not cheap. The build seems good. No creaking when you stretch the headband. They collapse inwards too so it's easy to store.+ The integrated mic works fine for me in party chat. Everyone has always said I sound clear. This is despite reading about poor mic quality online. I'm sure it could be better though.+ It feels quite comfortable on my head.I am able to go through long sessions without feeling any discomfort. My head is maybe around average size. I know there are lots of comments online regarding how uncomfortable these are for people, but for me it's absolutely fine.+ Good audio. Games sound alive, dynamic and loud. I'm no audiophile but I'm happy with these for listening to music.+ Easy to use buttons located on the back of the ear cups.+3D audio but not many games support it right now.+ While it does not have any dedicated noise cancellation, I can not hear much around me when I am gaming with these.Cons:- I can't seem to charge these via my PC. They work with a USB charger, a power bank and obviously my ps4.- The mic picks up a lot of sound from around the room. Everyone could clearly hear me texting on my phone.- Would have been nice to have Bluetooth connectivity so I could use it wirelessly with my phone.- Bit bulky but then again, most gaming headsets seem to be.- When you turn on the sidetone feature (to hear yourself talk), it will mean your chat friends will hear an echo when they talk.- A little expensive. For those curious, the other headsets I strongly considered were the turtle beach stealth 700s and the hyperx cloud flight wireless. If it were not for the fact I got the playstation platinum at a discounted price, I probably would have got the hyperx headset. I am definitely pleased with my playstation headset though.

⏱ Time Owned: 3 months? Sound : Sound quality is unbelievable, spacial awareness in games is astounding with Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted 4 and The Last Of Us showing this off especially well. Sound was so good I couldn't believe what I was hearing. The PlayStation Platnium headset also comes with an equaliser preset button where via the app on PS4 you can load up game specific sound settings. I have used The Last Of Us one and it really enhanced my gaming expierience compared to the default setting.? Design: Initially wearing these they were uncomfortable especially the rubber headband that is designed to hold them in place no matter what you do during your passionate gaming session.I eventually got used to it and now I'm unfazed but I reckon gamer girls/boys who have long hair might struggle. The actual headmuffs are REALLY comfy and even my previous Playstation Gold 2.0 or even my Tritton Kunai's come nowhere as comfy as these.Aluminium headband that keeps it all held together has a very premium feel about it .? Battery: I have used these for around 15 hrs without needing to charge these, the battery life is simply amazing.? Packaging: As Sony always do the packaging was perfect with the premium feel.? Compatibility: PS4, PS4 Pro, PS VR, PC, Mac & Mobile? Contents: Headset, Wireless Adapter, Bag, 3.5mm Premium Audio Cable, USB Cable, Printed Materials? In Closing: Premium Headset that delivers 2nd to none 7.1+ surround sound . If buying for PS4/PS VR then don't look anwhere else especially since you get the added benefit of 3D Audio and the ability for custom presets. Thinking of buying these for PC, Mobile etc then there could well be better out there. Overall Sony have knocked it out of the park and improving on these is going to be a challenge.

+ Good surround sound quality, especially with the few '3D' sound games such as Uncharted 4+ Uses a dongle so no extra boxes and complicated optical cable configurations, and no need to plug into the controller either. Sound through TV/AVR mutes automatically when headphones switched on. Only drawback being a precious usb slot is taken up.+ No mic stick, mic is built into headphones+ Good configuration app to tweak sound settings. Two settings can be stored at any one time in the headset.+ Decent build quality compared to others tried, folds up nicely for storage+ Being a Sony product it is integrated with the PS4 so icons appear to show battery remaining, mute on/off, surround mode, etc+ chat/game sounds balance dial works well and is nicely implemented+ Bought at £99 price, so overall good value- Rubber band across the top of the head is a bit tight and gets a bit uncomfortable, could be in part due to my largish head. Comfort seems to be improving slowly with use though. Could maybe benefit from a little bit more size adjustability- Mic monitoring is apparently there but is barely if at all audible in-game, which means I'm never sure if I'm shouting (until my wife comes to tell me that I'm shouting)- mute button isn't that straightforward to find for when needed quickly, such as when said wife is coming to complain about my shouting- no bluetooth integration for taking calls- not sure if the noise cancelling works too well, chat members could hear my loud PS4 fan although I'm not sure if that is constantly the case or just when I'm chattingOverall I like them at the price I paid, but the size/comfort and quiet mic monitoring issues means they lose one star.

Over the years, I have used the PS Wireless Stereo Headset, PS Pulse Wireless Stereo Bassimpact Headset, the PS Wireless Stereo Wireless Headset 2.0 and now this new PS Platinum Wireless Headset.I prefer the design of the Pulse Bassimpact but it was somewhat bulky and heavy. In comparison, the PS Platinum is lightweight after a short while, you forget you're wearing it. The foldable feature is a bonus for storage and/or travelling. The control buttons on the headset are close to each other but once you memorise where each button is located, it is very easy to operate without having to remove the headset.Rather than bore you with technical information and/or jargons,I would simply say the sound emitting from the PS Platinum Headset is crystal. Depending on the games you play, you have a better awareness of where the enemy is approaching/attacking from. There is a separate button that allow you adjust the volume of game play and chat. This products has a similar sound quality to the Pulse Bassimpact headset, but better.PRICE: I can't really comment on the price as I pre-ordered this product, thus availing myself the Amazon's pre-order price guarantee and saving £11 off the RRP. Having said that, this falls under the header of 'you get when you pay for'.In conclusion, I am extremely pleased with this product and rate it 5 stars!

It's clearly the best wireless headset that is compatible with Playstation 4. It has an excellent sound quality and makes it extremely easy to locate your enemies in combat games. All the sounds are clear and loud. Microphone is not perfect but okay for in-game communication. This headset really deserve something like 4,5 out of 5.I had no issues until I started to use an external hdd. The headset started to lose connection with PS4 when I sit back or go away like more than 2 meters. My assumption is since they both use one of USB ports in the front, the amount of energy is not enough to supply both devices at the same time. Maybe It's just happening because of my PS4. I have the first model of Playstation 4,neither Pro nor Slim model. They have one extra port at the back.By the way, you have an external 3,5mm cable that comes with the device and with that cable, I had no issues. You are able to use the headset with your phone through 3,5mm cable, too. For non-console gamers, you are able to use it wirelessly with your PC or Mac via usb dongle. In short, if you have the base model of Playstation 4 and using an external hdd. Please be careful when you are buying this headset. Other than that issue I had recently, I highly recommend this headset for PS4 users.

I've been testing these headphones for a few hours now, they're very comfortable and feel more durable than the Playstation 2.0's which constantly snapped under normal usage.Sound quality is amazing, gameplay audio is clear and music is full of bass, but not too overboard. I haven't personally encountered the buzzing issue in the right cup other people have described. I haven't been able to fully test the 3D audio on a game like Uncharted but as always the VSS delivers so I don't doubt it's good. The microphone contains feedback options so you can hear your own voice, fantastic for checking that you're not yelling while playing late. After testing with a friend he said everything sounded perfect after only a few minutes of tweaking audio and mic settings. However, he did note that occasionally an echo of his voice came through my mic, something other users have reported too.In conclusion it's definitely worth the extra price, the headset feels more durable, has better sound quality and even looks smarter than the Playstation Gold's/2.0. If you think your friends can deal with hearing their own voices occasionally then the advantages of this headset will definitely outweigh the disadvantages for you.

Because my previous headset (sony gold wireless headset 2.0) broke due to a common issue with the hinges, I decided to pre order the platinums a couple on days before release because I thought it had all the features that my previous headset had like being able to work on PS4 and PS3 and being able to connect my phone to it like regular headphones. However, there are flaws to this headset, if you plan on using it on PS3, dont bother, it doesn't work properly and you can only do voice chat, no in game sound like the golds, though, they might fix this in a future update. Another flaw is that the headband can get uncomfortable after a few hours of Gameplay, I have to keep moving the headset on my head every few hours.but everything else about them is good, but its overpriced for what you get. Also I dont know if its just on my headset but the supplied USB cable to charge the headset doesnt seem to work when plugged into the ps4 to charge and it seems to only be defective on the headset, it works,on other devices fine, luckily, I've already got a similar cable to use and it charges the headset fine.

Sound quality is incredible, 7.1 surround sound combined with 3D audio is a perfect match up when available. 3D audio is available on basically every single PSVR game title and most newer standard game titles like Modern Warfare (2019). You may want to switch the 3D audio off for older games that don’t support it though. I Cannot play games without this headset anymore, it’s just not the same anywhere else, even through my home cinema system with 7.1 audio. You cannot match the way this headset delivers the sound right on your brain so close to your head. On COD I can hear every enemy footstep in the exact 360 directional scope that they come from. Perfect for battle royale games and intense 1v1 moments.Only slight con of this headset is that sometimes my friends complain they can hear themselves echoing through my headset when ambient room noise is turned on... not sure how this is happening as my apartment is 100% silent and all audio comes through the headset. They can’t deal with it, but for me I couldn’t care less as my audio experience is perfect and I don’t hear any echoing...

These headphones are excellent. For the price you get very good quality audio. In the PS store you can download a companion app which enables you to changed the exqualiser settings to how you prefer it or there are some pre-existing options to maximimise the effects of. For example Gunfire and Bassboost. I had a problem with the set i bought as theough no fault of of amazon they stopped holding a charge. But well after the 30 days in which returns are accepted. I contacted amazon customer services and chatted to a very helpful guy called Adrian. He provided excellent customer service and agreed to issue me a refund even though, as I said, the headphones had pass the 30 days returns window.I have been an amazon customer for over 20yrs and have hardly had any problems with my purchases. This guy Adrian was a perfect example of the excellent customer service you can expect if you contact amazon with a problem. If there was a second set of 5 stars for displaying my delight of amazons customer service I would give Adrian 10 ?

So I’ve taken delivery of a few headsets recently. Some had clever modes to pick up footsteps or make the ear cup vibrate, but the PlayStation Platinums just feel like a quality pair of headphones. When they were delivered I listened to some music through the 3.5mm jack while COD loaded. Two hours later I found I’d been marvelling at the audio quality and forgotten about the game. Sony already know how to make a good pair of headphones and they work seamlessly with PlayStation. I spent a week trying to pick a difference between Turtle Beach and Trittons, I thought it would take a little longer to come to a conclusion. I happily returned them both the afternoon after my PS headphones were delivered.10/10 would recommend.

Having previously been using a ps3 headset with similar sized drivers I was surprised at the extra punch these had in the levels of sound and increased sense of immersion you get! Honestly I Love these headphones, they are comfortable, easy to put on and use. The buttons are placed where you want them, they are not too heavy and they fold up.The sound quality is great, the 3d audio is fun but a bit of a gimmick at the moment. They work fantastically well with my psvr headset although u need to wire them in to that. The only gripe I have is why the need for a USB dongle? They are the top end sony headset designed for the ps4 specifically so why the dongle!Otherwise, these are fantastic and a great set of headphones.
