I’ll ignore the fluff and get straight to brass tacks; I have three headsets to compare; the new Logitech G432 (which is an upgrade to the long running G430), the Sennheiser HD25 (a classic pair of audiophile headphones; cheaper than many more recent audiophile headphones, but in my opinion still one of the best for audio), and of course the Kraken.The Kraken is better than the Logitech. The Logitech is a one trick pony that relies on its emulation box of tricks (via its USB connection port). Take the emulation box away and plug straight into audio-out and the G432 is just not that good; it sounds hollow and cheap. The Kraken and G432 are more evenly matched if you use the G432 via its USB port,but then you still have the plasticky Logitech bodywork that looks distinctly old fashioned (its pretty much unchanged since the G430; a 2013 model!). Out of the two I’d pick the Kraken overall.Taken on its own as a gaming headphone, the Kraken does well. There’s simply nothing bad about it. It feels sturdy because it is metal. It is very comfortable, and the sound is perfect for gaming (and movies). It tends towards bass without sounding too muddy, and the stereo separation is good. It rarely goes into distortion at high volume. I used it for a good long session with a modern game that supports modern gaming audio standards (Metro Exodus) and have no qualms with the performance.You also get good noise cancelling via the ear cups; they physically muffle the outside world (bit of an understatement; the ear pads are actually an inch thick!), and you don’t have to turn the volume up much to completely cut out external noise. The ear cups are equally massive (4 inches across, and stand 2.5 inches out from your head on either side – proper aviation headphones!). These are chunky headphones, but also surprisingly light and comfortable. Oh; an additional bonus if you wear glasses (or a head tracking frame); the cups are soft and designed not to press on your glasses so you won’t get sore ears.There's no LEDs or any such fluff, but if you pick the green headphones you don't need flashing lights. The green is very bright and eye-catching. Think neon green marker pen!For listening to music, the Kraken does great given they are gaming headphones. A bit weak in the mids and tends towards bass but that’s to be expected because so do most gaming headphones.Tested against the HD25 and listening to the Battlefield 1 soundtrack (specifically the Flight of the Pigeon), the HD25’s absolutely kill the Kraken in the mids and highs (and equals it in bass) but again, that’s okay because the HD25’s kill most gaming headphones for music.Listening to bass heavy music (Born Slippy by Underworld), I cant tell the two headphones apart, so for things like dance and rap, the Kraken may be a good choice. The Kraken may tend towards bass, but it isn’t as muddy as lesser gaming headphones in the mids and highs. Perfect for listening to music if you are studying because you get decent sound and very good noise cancelling.Overall, the Kraken is actually not bad for listening to music, especially as you don’t need software drivers to make it sound good (as per the Logitech); you can just plug it into a standard audio jack and you are good to go. Plus the HD25’s are not at all good for multiplayer gaming (they don’t have the wide sound-stage that competitive gaming requires, and of course don’t have a mic), so even if you own a pair of audiophile cans, you still need something like the Kraken if you are serious about your gaming.Downsides?None really. The only issue you might see is being fooled into thinking they are open cup headphones because of the grills on the sides. They are not; the grills are just for show! You probably wouldn't wear them out either, as they make you look like a cosmonaut... unless of course you're in Baikonur where the look is bang on trend.So overall, the Kraken is a very good set of gaming headphones, having a very wide sound-stage, decent power in the bass area because of its large drivers, and because it doesn’t require any software, is actually a decent set of general headphones. They are also very comfortable to wear.I actually can’t find much to fault them as a pair of gaming headphones (there wasn't actually much to say about using them as gaming headphones because they worked so well!); all the bases are covered, with no unexpected weaknesses.

These Razer Kraken Ultimate headphones have been designed from the ground up for serious gamers. For the best possible sound quality - including support for THX Spatial Audio - these are USB only. There’s no aux adapter and no wireless functionality. Whilst some home consoles support USB audio, these headphones are clearly geared towards PC gamers that can use the Razer Synapse software (PC only) to customise the setup of the headphones. THX Spatial Audio is also only supported for PC gamers, so although you can use the headset with both PS4 and Nintendo Switch, it’s fair to say they’re at their best on PC.The microphone retracts almost completely into the left ear cup and can be simply pulled out on a flexi boom arm.A squeeze of the mic tip mutes it. On the back of the headset there’s a simple volume control and another button to turn THX Spatial Audio app settings on and off. The ear cups are huge and very comfy, even if I’m wearing my specs. They fit right over the ear and the cushions are gel-infused to keep them feeling cool. I find them comfy even after a couple of hours of gaming. The braided cable is 2 meters long -which I found plenty long enough - and has a handy little cable management tie attached.On PS4 I had to make sure that the console was powered on before I connected the headphones - if they’re plugged in before you turn the console on they’re not detected. They are then detected as “Razer Kraken Ultimate” under Audio input (microphone) and Output (audio). On PS4 you’re getting high quality stereo audio and not THX Spatial Audio, but they still sound great. The only disappointment is that the volume cannot be adjusted very high - the volume control on the headphone did not function, and whilst upping the master volume on the PS4 certainly helps, you can’t make them as loud as I would like. Mic quality was great. I had to turn down the Mic sensitivity in the Playstation settings because everyone said I was too loud.On Nintendo Switch, things were surprisingly really great - I wasn’t even 100% sure they’d work. Obviously you can only use the headphones when the console is docked, and again you’re not getting THX Spatial, but you can really crank them up (the volume control on the back of the headset actually works) and they sounded fabulous. Playing Platinum Games (I’m a huge fan) new magnum opus Astral Chain on Switch was the first time I heard these headphones really perform and they knocked me out, they really did add to the experience. I quickly found myself switching out carts to hear how different games sounded.Using the headphones on my HP Omen laptop was the first time I got to use the Razer Synapse software. It’s easy to use and offers some pretty deep personalisation options - from a ten stage graphic equaliser with presets to mic sensitivity, volume and side tone. You also get to play around with the THX Spatial Audio. Being able to customise the effect in a clean demo environment really does showcase how well it can work. There’s a chopper sound effect that moves around the sound stage and you do get a real sense of it moving from in front to behind as well as the traditional side to side of stereo. In game I found it slightly more difficult to tell what was going on. Doom for example sounded absolutely immense, but I had no real increased perception of where I was likely to be attacked from next. I will admit that my PC collection consists largely of indie games, Steam sales and Humble Bundles so I’m not necessarily playing the very latest AAA titles - I don’t know if that has any bearing.Overall these are fantastic sounding, super comfortable headphones with a great mic. Whilst I have yet to play a game that has truly sold me on the virtues of the THX Spatial Audio system, these are still superb sounding headphones that get a lot of things right.

When I look for gaming headsets to buy, I always consider the sound quality (obviously), comfort, noise cancellation quality, the bass (for footsteps) and the mic quality, so this review will be mainly based on those things.Sound QualityThe sound quality is phenomenal, all reviews say “for this affordable price, the sound quality is great”, but I don’t think that is fair, I believe the sound quality is great for 3 times the price of these headphones. Everything is crisp and clear. In addition to this, something I did not expect, these headphones are great for movie watch and music as well! The bass shakes the headphones but doesn’t overshadow the trebles and the highs.The 7.1 surround system software that you can download (with the activation code provided with the purchase) works like a charm and is perfect for fps and campaign gaming.ComfortThese headphones are ultra light and have such a compact build, they feel super comfortable on your head and ears. They have a tight fit but with all the padding, you can barely feel the headphones. These are perfect for long hours of gaming, so obviously ideal for these times with everyone being in lockdown and gaming for 12+ hours a day! Also the mic is easy to move around and very flexible which is always a good feature to have.Noise CancellationObviously there isn’t active noise cancellation technology on these headphones but if Razer said there is, they would’ve gotten away with it! You can barely hear things around you, I have a (extremely) loud mechanical keyboard and I cannot hear it at all which is just great. -just received the package-the packaging was decent but overall meh. sadly the headphones don't come with a pouch-microphone and speaker test on laptopspeakers ridiculously decent, not the best but far above average, comparing to the Powerbeats Pro sounds relatively the same, 'apart from when the beat drops' as expected. the microphone is not Walmart gaming headphone level but not the best, maybe after fiddling with it my opinion would change. but for now the microphone did not sound as fulfilling as the inbuilt microphone on my Mac.-had to wait for the console to update so that sucked, literally the worst timing.(really triggering).-still waiting for the console updatejust as stated all you need to do is plug into the controller to be connected to the console (xbox 1x).the speakers sound incredible for music, and It means a lot coming from someone that plays with a full sound system normally.noticed the headphones are quite heavy, you can really feel the weight on your neck, but it is manageable. Well, it looks like this is my last Vine review. It looks like Amazon do not appreciate considered reviews and would rather people spam out 5* reviews on delivery out of gratitude and without testing the product.I already have the Razer Kraken 7.1 Chroma V2, it's a nice headset, but the mic could be better and it's uncomfortable for long periods of time. This is almost the same product, but updated after feedback was taken from pro gamers.So is it an improvement? … Yes definitely.The earphone foam cushions may feel too squishy and insubstantial when you open the box, but they are exactly what is needed to make this the most comfortable headset I have ever used.The old foam cushions were too firm and the old frame too solid, so eventually you felt like your head was in a vice - not anymore - some complain that the frame feels weak, no, it's not, it's lightweight yet strong.Now the mic and the main reason for the delay... this could easily have been a 2* review as the mic was performing abysmally. However, the problem was with the Razer software and Steam's new voice chat. Do not use any software adjustments, noise reduction cuts out your own voice far too frequently for example. **EDIT I have since uninstalled the Razer software completely - it conflicts with far too many games.But overall the software is an improvement on the old model - just do not try to use it with previous models - that the older headset wants to use the old software and it is not compatible with the new software suite - and if you have the previous version of this Razer headset you will need to uninstall the old software before plugging in and installing this.The mic itself now retracts into the headset which is a nice feature which should also prolong the life of the mic. On recording my own voice the sound quality seems better too.The THX upgrade is appreciated - USB sound quality is improved with added breadth and depth (with some equaliser tweaking). And directional sound is improved over the Kraken v2.Also you can plug the headset directly into your own soundcard instead, except you are limited with the cable length being around 5ft (add another 2 metres cabling from the THX box to the USB connector).One feature added from the pro input is a switch to bring forward voice chat over game sound. This is pretty much a failure and can be ignored, the only noticeable difference to reduce sound overall.For me the Tournament edition is clearly superior to the Kraken v2. It is worth it for the comfort upgrade alone, but sound is improved, the mic (if you don't use the software enhancements) is improved and that's pretty much the 3 main things required from a headset. It's a shame that Razer don't go all out for improved speaker quality in the headphones, but for under £100 we can't have everything.

I bought these because I was in the market for something good for my games on PC. I was drawn between these and another pair but decided to go with these. They're noise canceling and the microphone works well, but you may need to change some of the settings through the PC for it to suit you better. For the first 3-ish months, you could feel the cooling pads really set in on your ears, it was great. But now they don't really have that much cooling left in them, I can hardly feel it anymore. Not sure if that's just me or the fact I have used them every week. The headset is comfortable though and is adjustable for head sizes. The microphone is stored in the left side of the headset and can be pulled out.

For me, the most important thing about headphones is how good they sound. Whether they’re comfortable is also important, but how they look or whether they’re stylish is a complete non-issue. So the shocking bright green set-up of these, sustained all the way to the audio cables, wasn’t really a turn-off, even though it might be for anyone who was concerned with notions of what’s “subtle” or “classy”. Once you’re wearing them, you can happily forget how bright green they are!So the 4 star rating I’m giving is based almost entirely on the sound quality, which is pretty good but not brilliant. As you’d fairly reasonably expect from quite large bulky cupped headphones, they have a good balanced frequency range on them.

I already have a very good sound system at home, but sometimes if I'm gaming at night and don't want to disturb the neighbors or when I want to be immersed in the middle of the action a gaming headset is my go-to choice. This not only means I can crank up the sound to the maximum and hear every detail but also talk to friends with the headset mic.-Comfort- 4/5This headset is so light that sometimes you can forget you have them on. The ear cups are really soft and supple and fit around your ear nicely which means they are comfortable even for the longest periods. The headband is cushioned too making these a pleasure to wear every time and with them being adjustable they should fit just about anybody.-Build Quality- 3/5Mostly these are made out of a hard plastic apart from the cushioning.

Took a little set up, the razor drivers are a little annoying, they require online activation to use the 7.1 features and didn't work at all without them, even with proper drivers. For some reason the servers were acting up, but once I had messed around with them for a while and reinstalled the program and tweaked some windows settings, they work absolutely perfectly and the quality is pretty good. They can go as low as about 30 hz, which for a £50 headset, I wasn't actually expecting, so that's a happy surprise. The sound quality is pretty ace, its not exactly enough to be uncomfortable on max volume, which is good, but I know some people like to have the option to destroy their eardrums.

4 stars because I've not tested the mic or software. Arguably, the most important things are the speakers anyway!Righto, so out of the box you get the impression that this is a budget product. Sure, the box is nice and all, but inside it is pretty bog standard which is fine. A lot of companies like to dazzle the purchaser with swish packaging that's just going to end up in a whale's stomach anyway so it's nice to see you're not being treated like a nitwit who goes after things because they're swanky looking.I upgraded from a Corsair Void Pro (yes, I consider moving from a £70 product to a £30 product as an upgrade - you'll see why) and was expecting the Razer X to be not as good due to the price.

Overall as general budget-end gaming headphones I like this set of headphones from Razer a lot - they are quite lightweight and very comfortable for sure, with the cups sitting very comfortably on my ears and a nice snug comfortable fit with the foam padding which feels secure but doesn't cause earache after a while like some (I've only tested them for around an hour though, so perhaps some earache might kick in if you're on a 7 hour gaming session), the band sits comfortably too and the long cable meant I didn't ever feel restricted. On top of this they have a discreet cut out for those who wear glasses so you should find these comfortable too which is a pretty neat consideration.The microphone

Date purchased: May 2020RIP Headphones: September 2020Razer support: UselessI bought these headphones when I purchased my new rig because I redid everything. I wanted a slightly more expensive set but as I spent around 2k on my gaming build, I had to be sensible. I wish I'd spent a little extra at the time and gotten better quality but hindsight is 20/20.For the record, they worked great and I never had an issue with sound quality or voice quality on the mic. The problem is that after about 4 months the sides started to wear through and then snapped completely (as shown in the picture).Because I have limited funds and it's not easy to find the money to replace things, I'm very careful with my stuff.

You pay a little more for a Razer Kraken gaming headset, but what you get is a good balance of sound quality, comfort and design. It's nicely packaged, the headset looks impressive in its build, feel and luminous green colour. It's a classy looking package and no mistake.There are a couple of nice features that are nice to this headset, and they're more than just gimmicks. The frame is cool strong aluminium, a lightweight but really solid construction, and it's housed in a plastic cushioned headband that feels light and comfortable on the head.
