I have two cats, one a big fat hairy Maine Coon and the other a dainty little Bengal girl. I had been feeding my Coon the breed-specific Royal Canin food for years (as that's what the breeder had recommended, and I assumed she would know best) and then started on Arden Grange kitten food with my Bengal when I got her just a year and half ago. They both free-fed on dry food with some fresh cooked chicken breast as a treat a couple of times a day.I should point out that my Coon is a grumpy boy, doesn't like much petting (and lets you know with teeth) and was always especially sensitive about being touched anywhere around his rear haunches, which I could never groom properly because he wouldn't let me near him.I used to have to wait for him to fall asleep and try to chop out the matted bits...How is this relevant? OK. My dainty little Bengal decided she didn't want Arden Grange - she wanted the big giant Maine Coon biscuits that barely fit in her mouth. I was worried about her choking on one so I decided it was time for a change. I read a lot online (for the first time) about cat nutrition, decided that what I had been feeding them was actually quite bad and I should feed bad, and decided to try Applaws as it was the highest meat content dry food I could find.It took them a while to get used to it, but holy jebus did I notice a difference. My Coon in particular went from having what I thought was normal slightly coarse fur to silky soft fur that I could actually groom properly. I did a big exercise getting his mats out and now he has a fantastic coat that he can mostly keep unmatted by himself, and is even friendlier now that the sore matty bits are gone. He wants more pets and attention and noticeably takes better care of his coat. He gets less angry at the other cat (I guess now that she's not jumping on the bits he didn't like getting touched) and has become much more mellow. My little Bengal always took great care of her coat but it developed an even better shine and softness.Now that I actually know something about cat nutrition and have seen the effects of proper nutrition for a while (OK really if you wanted to do it properly you'd feed them fresh raw meat all the time, but in terms of what is achievable vis a vis store-bought dry food), I can say with confidence that a high meat content, no grain food is a must, and Applaws is going to be the food of choice from hereon in.

This is all that we have fed our cat for about the past four years. We rehomed her when she was four years old. The last owners left some sachets of whiskas or felix in jelly and gravy and a little bit in the bottom of a box of Go-Cat. I immediately saw that the cat was licking the gravy/jelly from the sachet food, and leaving the "meat" (spongy bits of soya?). What a waste of money and clearly not nutritious as I saw all this food contains approx FOUR percent meat! She was bringing up the Go Cat on a regular basis too. She was hyperactive, having at least six "mad turns" a day, galloping around for nearly an hour at a time. I was wondering if I'd done the right thing taking her on!She is quite a large, pedigree :LaPerm cat. So after some online research I ordered a bag of Applaws, which she absolutely gobbled up. Her head was right in the hole that I'd cut in the top of the bag to pour the biscuits out! She is a very greedy cat, so I bought two of the snack balls that you fill with food and the cat has to roll the ball along for bits of food to fall out. The combination of the Applaws dry food and two snack balls, changed her completely. She became much calmer, down to one late evening mad turn, which any cat has! She never throws up any more, and her weight which had been too heavy, stabilised. As some other reviewers have said, due to the high protein content and dryness of the food, your cat might drink more than usual. My cat wouldn't look at water if it was in a dish near her food. I was about to buy an expensive cat fountain when I read a recommendation to try this first - put your cat's dish of water in a different room, in some random place. I wasn't convinced, but put her water by a couch in the living room. Within half an hour she was lapping furiously at her newly discovered little oasis! So do try that before investing in faddish fountains, due to your cat demanding you turn the taps on for them to drink!I would never feed my cat anything other than Applaws now, the only other things she gets is the occasional Dreamie treat, or the diluted tuna water from a can of tuna in spring water.

My 3 year old cat Max has been eating Applaws since he was a kitten, he has the dry food in his bowl all day (to graze on, he's not a greedy cat so it often lasts for 2 days), this is to supplement a pouch of Whiskers in the morning (I've tried him on better\more expensive stuff but he doesn't like it!) and a pouch of Applaws wet (in broth) food in the evening (he has both of these split in to 2 servings each as he doesn't wolf food down and won't eat wet food that has been out for a while, plus little often is better for cats). He loves the Applaws dry and wet food (you can't just feed them the Applaws wet in broth as it isn't a complete nutrition food). He is a very healthy, lean, active,playful and loving cat, his vet always says he's the best condition cat they see every time he goes for his check up and boosters. He has an amazing coat, no fat (just all muscle according the vet!), healthy teeth (he's not big on treats but does like a chew on dried chicken hearts every now and then!), clear eyes and has never been ill. I can not recommend Applaws food enough. Cat's are obligate carnivores, they shouldn't eat much in the way of complex carbohydrates as their bodies can't process them properly and it makes them fat and causes various illnesses, most dry food's (even Royal Canin etc) are mostly grain\wheat and cats shouldn't eat them. If your cat is overweight, suffering from repeat illness, has allergies etc please try them on Applaws food, you will see a difference in all aspects of their health (and thus their personality as an unwell cat is a grumpy and unhappy cat!)

I should only have one cat, a curmudgeonly old neutered tom, but I made the mistake of having a traditional cat flap fitted, so as a result, despite some hissing, I now have an additional four regular visitors. My own cat has a marginal general preference for wet catfood (but is fussy about brands) and would never touch the cheap supermarket branded cat biscuits. I found he would settle (at least as a supplement) for the top quality dried foods but what I now find is that these intruders generally prefer the latter.You might wonder why I should indulge the preferences of these uninvited feline visitors but the answer is largely cost and convenience. Despite the (large) packs appearing to be costly,they seem to last for ever so the effective portion cost is actually very low, far lower than sachets. I suppose the sachet contents are 80% water (fresh meat, if your cat will eat it, is not much lower) whereas the dried kibble is, I suppose, nearer 10%. I leave you to do the arithmetic. After extensive testing, my cat tasting panel votes Applaws and Origen as being preferred brands and it is perhaps no surprise that they also have, by a wide margin, the highest meat content (80% for Applaws).If you buy these specialist brands, you do need to shop around (but of course Amazon is always a good place to start).

Great quality cat food and brilliant value (£28 at time of purchase). Grain free and 80% chicken Applaws is one of the best cat food brands there is and I'm glad to have discovered it.Our 3 young adult cats are thriving on it. They have this as half their meals and the rest is high meat content wet food. Applaws wet food is incredible too (smells quite delicious, the same as any fishy meal for humans!)Despite having one keen overgroomer who was previously prone to bringing up hair balls this food seems to have reduced it.The bag is fully resealable with a snap lock though I personally would find it tedious to do this several times a day.It's a very big bag for lifting and tipping into a cat bowl so I opt to decant large amounts into another air tight container and top up once a fortnight.Ideal food for using in puzzle feeders to keep the beasts entertained and motivated to work for their meals.With our 3 boy cats (who probably eat a bit more than the portion size) it's going to last approximately 10 weeks as half their meals each day, so 30 weeks for 1 cat (7.5 months).However, no complaints about that, just worth mentioning. We will definitely buy this again!

Kilimanjaro is my first cat and he has cost us some expensive trips to the vet with some stomach upsets. He was given probiotics, antibiotics, was prescribed diet food. We had to take him of his much loved Iams and wet food and started feeding him Royal Canin Digestive. Things were going well, but he was only going to the litter box every other day and it was extremely dry. It didn't look very healthy.I spent a lot of time at the local pet shop trying to find the right kind of food for him and saw Applaws. No grain and a high percentage of protein might actually work to make his digestive tract work properly. I bought it even knowing there was a high probability of him not liking it.He is VERY picky- I've lost count of the rejected food brands.But he ate everything and the results were amazing. He started gaining a healthy weight, was back to being his playful self and had no more problems in the box.I'm sure if my cat could rate it, it would give it 3 stars- the bag is too big and he likes a bit variety, but I also give him Applaw's wet food once in a while (which he gobbles down quickly) to keep things a bit more interesting.

At this point I will have to admit that I did not realise just how large a bag 7.5kg is, somehow the fact that biscuits are much lighter than wet food had failed to register when I ordered it.However, the cats are pleased, as the like Applaws biscuits. We always have biscuits available for them, as we are not always in at the right time (from the cats' point of view), and this is an acceptable backup for our three very fussy Birmans.In fact, these are the only biscuits that one of them will lower herself to eat, and the other two are much more inclined to eat these than the cheaper brands.I like the idea that they are mainly meat, as that seems to be what a cat is designed to eat,and they like the taste. Either that, or they checked the price on the invoice, as I find there seems to be a direct correlation between price, and how much the cats like it.I think it is well worth the extra price, as the cats will actually eat it, so I no longer feel as guilty when I come home a little late - I only get the "bad owner" treatment, rather than the "cat murderer" treatment I got with other brands.

I have a maine coon who was badly treated and massively underweight in her previous home. We started with another brand of pet food that was also breed specific but this just went straight through our cat which in turn made the house stink and she didn't gain any weight.The vet suggested this brand (despite her surgery selling the other brand) and we haven't looked back. We've bought several flavours, this seems to be her favourite .She's gaining weight really well and now looks healthy.Before food: 4 bowls of dry food + 8 tinsNow applaws: 1 bowl of dry food +4 tinsIt's expensive but as it feels her up more, we're spending less in the long run. The vet commented recently on how much better she looks in general,her coat is very shiny, her teeth are doing really well, her weight is finally gaining.You can see a positive difference between our cat and the cat next door who has standard supermarket food.

I moved my 2 cats to this food 5 months ago and very quickly I saw an improvement in their well-being. They used to eat (so called) high quality food such as Hills and Royal Canin, but 2 or 3 times a week one of them would be sick. Since moving to this food they have been sick only once each in the whole time. They also seem to be more fulfilled after eating, not mithering me as much.2 drawbacks, they are much thirstier and after spending a fortune at the vets to be told that they were perfectly well, I searched other Applaws users to see that other owners had noticed a sharp increase in thirst too. So make sure you keep plenty of fresh water down.The other drawback is that one of mine will only use a litter tray and his poo now smells awful, not like it smelt like roses before, but now it really does stink.But the benefits really do out-way the negatives and I would highly recommend it.

My cats love this food, we have been feeing this for approx 1 year now and have seen a huge difference in the quality of their coats and activity levels. The food seems to be very appealing to them, and I've had to introduce feeding it on a puzzle feeder tray otherwise they scoff it down to quickly!The best things about this food is the quality (which is excellent- no cheap filler grains!) and how little you actually need to feed. I have two 4kg females who eat 30g a day of this each - when you weigh it out it is a tiny amount (1/4 cup) though this is the perfect amount to keep them healthy. Therefore the bag actually works out to be great value when compared to other cat foods (1kg will feed one 4kg cat for just over a month!)Overall,we love Applaws for keeping our cats healthy and our cats love it because it's yummy. Though the initial cost seems high, it lasts ages!

Cats are not designed to eat carbohydrates and it makes me angry that pet food companys sell substandard food on the highstreet under the guise of being 'healthy'. So I was so happy when I found Applaws. It was the only food I could find that had such a high meat content. I couldn't afford the time or money to provide my cat with the nutrition that he would need. I looked into ordering him proper meat for him, but to order him whole mice/rats/chicks/crickets etc or similar from the reptile food supplier was going to cost me a fortune. Buying him Applaws is my compromise at trying to give him the best nutrition and health that I can without being able to give him a full meat diet.My cat seems to like it.I wish it wasn't so expensive but it's worth it to keep my cat healthy and happy. I also wish it came in more varieties.

Excellent value - bought on one of the daily discount prices. Not sure if the cat is as impressed with a vat load of the same food! However she is lively and her fur is in excellent condition. Nevertheless if she was given a choice she would prefer Whiskers or Go Cat. Although Applaws is expensive, she eats much less of this than cheap cat food so I would say it is good value. Still not as good as giving her high quality tinned wet food but she has turned her nose up at Applaws tins. I have discovered she will happily eat Sainsburys Encore tins - only 75% meat but significantly better than 4% meat derivative in some of the main brands.This is a very large bag - it won't fit into a kitchen cupboard - I'd recommend transferring to a smaller container. for daily use.

Im obsessed with the fact that most cat foods out there seem to contain tiny amounts of protein and huge amounts of grains! I either had to resort to wet food, which is more expensive and not good for their teeth. or accept that they would not be on a healthy dry diet.this food contains 80% animal protein which is what the cats need, and no cereal at all.My boy doesn't like the chicken one sadly, but he eats the salmon one. my girl loves both.this might seem more expensive but if you compare how long it lasts it really is not that different.ex: for an adult cat weighing up to 3kg you only need to serve a 40g portion dailyother cat foods (whiskas for instance)you have to feed 85g daily for the same body weight.really recommend it.

Our cat has had this for about 6 years and nothing else except wild food.Never tires of it, never gets ill and never gets fat. I prefer the smaller packs for freshness but I am going to research storing larger amounts maybe in Kilner jars.By the way, they will need plenty of water and the best way to encourage them to drink is to put the water in an enamel metal mug filled to the top. It stays fresher and sweeter with a bit of iron which they like. Imagine ourselves having to drink from a saucer!Best to use rainwater if you can and refill the mug completely most days even if she has drunk only a little (just as we would for ourselves). You might save a fortune on future vet's bills

I am a regular purchaser of this as I have it on subscription. I can't say I enjoy the taste as my cat eats it, not me. Not sure why though it stinks! So much so I have to buy these smaller size packets to reduce the smell once the packet is open. It does seal back up but not that easily. My cat is a very fussy eater, she has tried so many foods. I only like to buy what I think is good quality and as she seems to puke up Applaws wet this is a good alternative. She prefers it in the summer months to m&s chicken in gravy (her winter favourite). She never leaves any dry.
