However, I think I would definitely purchase it again as it is a versatile little beverage and tastey without any sort of strong or unpleasant alcohol aftertaste (which I would associate with some styles of liquors and some brands of some sytles). It is a smooth, creamy beverage, although I personally think less so than Baileys or Irish Cream liquors. It is perfect either served chilled, over ice or alternatively added to coffee or an espresso, since it is both sweetener and creamer in that case. As another reviewer suggested it would taste good, in the proper proportion, mixed with a cream soda but I am not sure that it would be such a good idea to mix it with much else besides,I dont think colas would taste good mixed with this, nor lemonades, tonic waters or even ginger beers or ginger ales. I may just be fussy in that respect. There is enough in a single bottle to entertain a group of friends or party of people without restricting the pours too much and more than an ample amount in a single bottle for a single person making cocktails or serving themselves a beverage of an evening. I like the bottle's aesthetic touches but I do wish that they had provided a little more detail about the sugar content and what has been blended to create the taste (although I am a diabetic and acknowledge that my unique needs in this respect are different to the rest of the likely target audience for sales). Recommended.

Amarula Vanilla Spice Cream Liqueur, 70 clAs a liqueur, this was a new one to me so no preconceived ideas of what it would taste like. I don't drink liqueurs regularly except perhaps at Christmas so cannot claim to be a well informed consumer but I know what I like.I had heard of the Marula tree in Southern Africa before but only in the context of elephants seeking out the trees once a year when the fruits are ripe...they love them. In shaking down the fruits they make them available to a wide variety of other wild animals who also delight in eating the fallen fruits. (This accounts for the drawing of an elephant on the label.)So the commercially minded in South Africa now harvest the fruit once a year, then just like apples make Calvados, the fruit is fermented, distilled and matured for two years before being mixed with cream and spices to produce this liqueur. That's the origin so how does it taste ?It is has a very pleasant taste if perhaps a little bland. Certainly a strong vanilla flavour and they say a hint of ginger although I found that difficult to single out. That said it would ideally suit the occasional liqueur drinker who will find it a pleasant experience even perhaps a little “more-ish”.Worth it's place in the drinks cabinet and if you have “an elephant in the room” you know just what to give them.

Across the sub-equatorial plains of Africa, Marula trees grow wild and free. Only once a year do they bear fruit. Africa’s elephants walk miles to feast on the sun-ripened Marulas. Some of the Marula trees are near the great, grey-green, greasy Limpopo River, all set about with fever trees, my best beloved. They ferment, distil and mature the Marula spirit in French oak for two years before blending it with their velvety cream. They also created the Amarula Trust to protect the elephants. Product of South Africa. Best enjoyed neat or over ice. Contains milk, soya and colourants.Baileys Irish Cream is supposedly 17% alcohol by volume; so is Amarula. Coincidence! Amarula isn’t overwhelmingly fruity in flavour, there’s a definite hint of fruit in the after-taste and on the nose but it’s not overpowering, the main flavour is a creamy one. I tend to find that Baileys tastes a bit ‘watered down’, personally, but the mellow flavour of Marula fruit gives this drink a more rounded flavour than Baileys. So both my lovely wife and myself prefer this drink to Baileys. Highly recommended, ten out of ten.

Product = 5 stars!Amazon's Delivery = 1 star! This is my second bottle of Amarula after receiving a miniature sample bottle so, as you can probably guess I do like this drink. I'm not a lover of Bailey's but this South African drink is somewhat different and very drinkable. Now the really important bit.................as for Amazon's very questionable delivery process I'm less than impressed! What absolutely bonkers requirement to prove my own identity at the front door of my own house and then a demand to provide my date of birth when I am very clearly 40++, get real Amazon! Not only are these requests very questionable from a GDPR perspective you have no issues leaving much higher value items quite openly on my doorstep, claiming they've been 'handed to resident' when I've not even been in the house. Some numb-nut with nothing better to do and with no consideration for customer experience has clearly dreamt this crazy requirement up and told delivery staff it's a legal requirement, what a load of complete tosh! Rant over.

I'm sure when I tried this a few years ago it was really fruity and creamy and I couldn't finish the bottle and ended up giving it away. But I thought I would give it another go.I don't know if they've updated the recipe or my tastebuds have changed, but this was actually quite nice. If you don't have a sweet tooth I would advise you to avoid it. It reminded me of a slightly sweeter version of Bailey's with a fruity undertone. It wasn't overtly fruity (which is how I remembered it being), it was kind of like drinking a good quality alcoholic milkshake. I thought it did have quite a silky (for want of a better word) texture to it, a slightly thinner consistency than Bailey's and other cream liqueurs I've tried. The current price for a 70cl bottle is 18.04,which I think is probably comparable to the supermarkets.Overall - nice and a good contender for a summer evening drink. (I tend to only drink Bailey's in the autumn and winter).

I dunno, but maybe I'm one of the few who first discovered this amazing drink in South Africa itself. I organised a group safari about 10 years ago with several friends and we first encountered Amarula in a large wine shop in Cape Town. I like Baileys and so thought this would be an inferior local version. How wrong I was. This is so moreish and creamy smooth. Really super delicious. We got in the habit of slipping it in our early morning coffee over the campfire. So wonderful. Plus we all enjoyed it evening time too as a nightcap. I guess everything is improved under the African stars and warmed by the orange glow of the brai. But it's just as delicious here in the UK.Knocks any similar drinks well into the long grass. Highly recommended if this is your kinda drink.

Well, on receipt I thought we could all have a taste, for reviewing purposes obviously. I had it chilled in the fridge and we then poured it over ice. And then.....we finished it. Just kept going back for a tiny bit more....It’s not thick and creamy and not overly sickly as some of these types of drinks can be. An unassuming but refreshing vanilla taste and after you have swallowed, there is a spicy aftertaste where you get the hint of ginger and spice. We all really enjoyed it. I have dropped a star because the contents are very poor in their description, I have no idea how much sugar is in this or what is blended with the vanilla. This stuff can be important to people and I was surprised at the lack of information! But I loved that smooth vanilla taste!

I'm not a big drinker of alcohol but when I do drink, prefer the smoother, sweeter types. This cream liqueur did not disappoint. It comes in a 700ml white screw-top bottle. The ingredients state it contains milk and soya.It looks, smells and tastes like a sweet spicy milk, with a faint whiff of alcohol. Its alcohol content is 15.5% vol but it doesn't taste particularly strong, until you feel the comforting warmth as it goes down. A very nice treat either on its own, with ice, or in a coffee. As I am not a big drinker I wondered how long the bottle would last once opened, as I cannot find anything on the bottle to indicate this, and a search on the internet found that if kept in the fridge it should last for about 6 months.

My eyes are always bigger than my belly with Amarula. I drink infrequently so usually treat myself around Christmas. For me this is an occasional tipple because it is possibly the sweetest cream liquer I've ever tasted and - whilst that's personal to me and in no way unpleasant - it's not zingy or citrusy when it talks about 'fruit'. It is sugar sweet. It is rich, creamy and highly enjoyable with a nice blend of flavours and an equally arresting aroma. Great either at room temp (which brings out the warmth better) or chilled with ice. You can blend it with other drinks too but it's perfecly fine on its own. The bottle and labelling are a work of art,you almost feel guilty putting it in glass recycling after!

Stop reading here if you don't like cream. White Amarula has a strong vanilla cream flavour that's also lively, intriguing and not too sweet. The vodka's very evident - it's 15.5% alcohol - and there's ginger, plus another note I couldn't identify. I was thinking Kiwi fruit, but knew I was wrong because there's more of a 'fruity' taste in the Amarula. It turns out to be Marula, an African fruit that's known as jelly plum; it's described as tart, sweet and sour.Sharper than an 'Irish cream', this is deliciously grown-up served cold & neat. It would be nice mixed 50/50 with cream soda, a tropical fruit juice or ginger ale. I'm going to try an Amarula spiced banana smoothie!

This was an interesting drink, I was wary to try it at first but the attractive bottle was too much to resist for long. The taste and flavour were as interesting as the bottle. To be perfectly honest, I found the first taste was out of my normal comfort zone. I persisted and found that with each glass, new layers of flavour were apparent. By the time I'd polished off my third glass I couldn't imagine not knowing the taste.I can only say to others that this is to be tried and not avoided. When you do try it, don't just have a sip, embrace the flavour and you wont be disappointed.

I’ve enjoyed a regular Amarula in the past so was keen to try this new vanilla spice version. As a cream liqueur it is similar in texture but the taste is quite different, although still just as good. Rather than fruit this one has a lovely spicy vanilla flavour, which is just the right balance between being too subtle and too strong. From the description it can be used in lots of ways including food recipes and in hot drinks, but so far my favourite way has been chilled and neat. It is unlike other cream liqueurs I’ve tried and I like it so much that I will buy some more.

I keep this in the deep freezer as there is enough alcohol to stop it freezing solid, improves the taste and gives it a lovely kick... only problem is that it is easy to drink too much of it, as the first glass encourages you on to the next! Usually buy from the supermarkets when they discount to £10 but will try Amazon in the future. Arguably Khala with milk is better value when discounted to £12 as you dilute it almost fifty percent with milk, and it is no so addictive so can stop easily after a glass of two.

I have to admit, I was expecting this to taste like a poor version of Bailey’s. How wrong was I?! This is lovely – not as thick or cloying as Baileys, with a lovely light flavour of vanilla with a subtle hint of spice. I didn’t think the spicy notes were very strong at all.I tried it with and without ice – both excellent, it was gone before I could think of trying any other serving suggestions! Be warned – it is VERY moreish! I would definitely buy this – it is so much nicer than the original Amarula.
