Before I write the review of this, a little of my background. I am a cyber security consultant with 25 years in the business and, currently a team of about 85 full time security consultants. On that basis, I am reviewing this item in the context of a wider security regime and where it it both appropriate to use and where it is not.First of all, this is an excellent product that is very easy to fit (check the size of your screen first) and will, to a great extent, prevent others from reading what is on your screen. Note that I say, to a great extent, rather than completely obscure. This means that if you have highly sensitive material, even with this filter fitted,I would not work in a public area (such as on a train); you need to make a judgement call as to whether you are overlooked and how sensitive the information is.In use, it slides happily in and out of its retainers, meaning that you can easily remove to let someone see something on your screen, before covering up again later. The choice of gloss and matte sides is also good, I prefer the matte side as this reduces reflections on the screen - it's your choice. So, overall worth the five stars and I'm very happy with it; however you do need to make your own decision about whether working on the train is reasonable or not...PS - one of the things in the description mentions that this is required by "ISO27001". As one of the people who has helped write chunks of the ISO/IEC 27000 series of standards and provided review comments on the most recent set (the 2013 version), I can assure you that screen filters are not explicitly mentioned. However, providing guidelines to staff working remotely is mentioned. This might, and only might, form part of this protection. On this note, I recently denied one of my guys buying one of these so that he could "work on the train" as the information that he was intending to access was way too sensitive for public working. If you want more advice on the the 27000 series of standards and how they apply, then please feel free to leave comments and I will respond. For obvious reasons, do not include any sensitive information about your organisation or any incidents in the past...

The packaging for the 3M is a little confusing as it doesn’t actually mark off the actual size of the filter on the back (there is a ruler) so it you don’t have a measuring tape/ruler, you want the screen to be no bigger than 31cm in length and 17.4cm in height i.e. 12.2”x6.9” or 14” in diameter. If your screen is bigger it will be harder to attach or won’t cover the full screen which could reveal some information so worth returning before opening for the right size. The filter is basically a sheet of plastic which looks dark tinted. When placed on the screen it does lower the contrast so the screen isn’t so bright but the magic is when looking at the screen slightly from the side, the screen looks blacked out therefore providing privacy to anyone who may be sitting next to you trying to look at the screen. Great for in the library, on the train or at a coffee shop etc.Provided in the pack are two options to secure the filter – either by sticking it down with the provided blue strips (I received 2 lots of 3 although it does state only 1 set is provided) or with slide mount tabs – only one set of these provided. Another option, depending on where you are using it and the design of your screen is just to lay it on the screen although not that secure. There is an indent in the filter so it’s easy to stick a nail under to grab a hold of and remove if needed. The filter can get quite dusty so I’d recommend being careful where you place it before sticking it to the screen. I’d also not recommend using it in a room without adequate lighting because it does darken the screen quite a bit which although does reduce glare, could also cause a bit of eye strain. That said though, if you do need privacy it definitely works.

First up it works. Pop this over your screen and the person next to you won't be able to sneak a look at your screen. It's apparently security rated and probably in some situations a good idea. Personally I think they should offer something like this for phones. But as I said it works, and it works really well; although the shading works left and right, it's less effective if the spy is looking from the top. That's the good news. Now the issues.(1) Make absolutely you buy the right size for your screen. I have a 14.5 inch screen (or so I thought) so I assumed for the purposes of review that a 14 inch filter would cover most. Nowhere near it. If you scroll down the listing there's a measurement guide from 3M that actually gives the dimensions.Use that to choose the right size and bear in mind it's attached by doublesided tape at the edges.(2) A perhaps expected side effect of the screen is that it makes things a little fuzzy, at least it did on the screens I tried it on. That's compounded if the filter isn't fixed properly and there's a gap between the rear and the actual screen. I wouldn't want to do detailed work with this on.If you want security for whatever reason, then this is a good product and recommended.

I got this for an Early 2011 MacBook Pro. The screen is 15", but for some reason it doesn't seem to be a standard size, and I had previously bought a 15.6" filter, that was too short. Fortunately Hypertec were great at sending a replacement. For this model of Mac, I had to trim the top and sides every so slightly. This is easily done with a pair of scissors, to give it a perfect fit. There are either long or short tabs to hold it in place - I used both, long towards the bottom of the screen, and the short tabs to hold it close at top. I disagree with another reviewers who said tabs are cheap looking. I found them barely noticeable, and there has to be some way to keep the screen in place! As for the functionality of the screen,it's perfect. The viewing angle is well restricted, you can easily see anything when sitting directly in front of it. The brightness of the screen is reduced slightly, but not so much that it's a problem. In summary, a great product, which will see lots of use if you're working in environments where you like a bit of privacy.

For privacy is excellent as people around can see only a black screen. I bought it for reducing glare and i am happy with it. I got less glare and i can see the things on the screen clearly as before, even with setting the luminosity at minim level. The manufacturer should state th the description that it has two sides: one gloss and the other dull. I was about not to buy it as i thought it had only a glossy side. Also the glossy one reduces brightness and you do not see any reflections, at least in my studio. Become a mirror when the screen is black, but once used no problems. The manufacturer should decribe better the mounting of the filter on the screen. I had problems as i put the sticker on the wrong side of the filter.Fortunately you can remove them. This working out fine as i discovered that the second method of mounting the filter was much better. With this you can slide off the filter and swoop to dull or glossy easily.A problem is that sometime at night he screen becomes more glary. Summary: nice peace of plastic useful if you need it.

When I worked at a certain well-known company, these were commonplace, to prevent visitors seeing the concepts we were working on. They work, and when viewed directly, make hardly any change to resolution (but you will need to turn the brightness up a notch). From the side, the view is commendably black.Ironically, I bought my young daughter a really cheap laptop (not expecting it to last long - it didn't) with a TFT screen. It had awful screen visibility except when viewed exactly head-on. This privacy filter turns a top-notch IPS screen into that... ;-)We never bothered with the fixings for the privacy guard. Just lean it against the screen, that's sufficient - and makes easy to remove when you do want to share the screen's contents (such as when showing a colleague beside you). There's a range of sizes, so double check you're getting the right dimensions and aspect ratio.Note it does not guard against someone directly behind you, peering over your head.

Working on a train for example, the guy in the neighbouring seat won't be able to read your screen, which is the object of the exercise. However, the darkening of your own field of view is noticeable and moreso away from the centre of the filter. I hadn't considered that I often have colleagues clustered around my screen, discussing spreadsheets etc, and this is also prevented. There are 2 ways supplied of applying the filter: strips of double-sided sticky, which we are told are removeable; orsticky attachments that you stick to your screen and then slide the filter into. I chose the latter and found it a little fiddly to get the positioning of the attachments right. Having done that,it was also quite tricky to slide the filter between the screen and the attachment. Without fingernails this would be extremely tricky. For anyone not comfortable with the diagonal measure, mine measures 30.9 cm x 17.4 cm

My main concern about using this was that screen/text clarity would be too impaired as I'm failry sensitive to distortion/sharpness but I've had this fitted to my laptop for 2x12-hour shifts and so far I'm very impressed with it. The level of clarity is fantastic and doesn't cause me any issues even with my extended windows of use. The privacy element kicks in such that colleagues sat to my left, right and diagonally behind me can't see any confidential information but instead are presented with a solid gold/orange screen. Fitting was simple, the slide mount tabs allow for smooth removal and replacement as necessary. My only gripe so far is it appears to be something of a fingerprint/dust magnet, probably to do with it being gloss compared to my matte laptop display but ultimately this is manageable as I'm focussed more on my work than fluff.

The 3M Privacy Filter is available in a choice of Gold or Black with Gold being the more stylish and effective – but also the most expensive! There are a huge number of screen sizes available so make sure you get the correct match for you specific screen size and shape – see the measuring guide on the Product Page for more details. I have a model in black and 3M's microlouver privacy technology provides screen protection from curious eyes for my sensitive data. This is not a product I use all the time but it can be useful in airports, internet cafes, open-plan offices and the like as 3M's filters are compliant with ISO27001 Information Security Management, so are very effective. If you deal with sensitive data on a regular basis and are mobile then this security aid from 3M can give you the security and peace of mind you require.

Excellent product though suggest you consider getting the next size up.The product itself is of good quality and offers excellent privacy. I estimate the viewing angle is around 45 degrees from the central position and my screen cannot be seen from a distance of 2 meters away. It also seems to create greater static and hence attracts more dust on the screen. So remember to wipe the screen a little more oftenSize: If you get the exact size, the screen will sit properly unto your laptop. However, there is a slight loss of visibility as the filter edges may obscure some words around the edges of your screen. The next size up is better, however, the filter now does not sit properly and can occasionally pops out of the fixing plastics. This is not an issue for me as I easily pop it back in the morning.

It is a good fit and works well. But it wasn’t easy to get to that point. The guidance on the posting was helpful but it’s still quite hard to get to the exactly right size and I almost ordered the wrong one a couple of times before double checking. I couldn’t get the size I needed in gold which would have been better for my eyesight I think. You lose your touch screen with it. This is probably inevitable but I didn’t think to look to see if this was an option when choosing. So some guidance on that would be helpful, especially as it mentions that tablet/touchscreen is an option when exploring ways to stick it to the screen. The sticker system isn’t easy as it’s hard to get the bubbles out when sticking it to the screen.

Not as great as i expected. It works, but the -3dB viewing angle is approx. 25-30degrees off axis. For a small laptop, it would be enough for the angle to be 15-20 degrees.Fortunately visibility drops sharply beyond this angle, and with the gold version, the effect is assisted with reflection off the ambient light.Unless someone recommends me a better product, i would happily buy this for my other computers.UPDATE: after using it for a bit longer, i think that the vieving angle is a good compromise. Reducing it any more would make it significantly less comfortable for myself to use. I guess, there is no substitute for a private soundproofed office.

After trying other cheaper brands, well, this 3M product is worth every penny. One side helps to reduce glare (matte); the other makes the text look sharper and easier to read (gloss - iMac look). You choose.I placed small pieces of the double sided strips provided on corners to fix the screen. Privacy is perfect using either side. You need to make sure you have the correct length/width before ordering, though - do NOT trust the display overall diagonal measure! These screens are roughly as thick as an X-Ray plate; I do not know how they would work on a laptop, though.

I recently purchased this privacy filter and I'm really happy about it:First it came in a nice and tidy package, with a very easy installation guide. I had it installed on my laptop screen in minutes! The first impression was very positive - indeed none can see my laptop screen unless sitting right behind me.However, I noticed one small issue: I have to increase the brightness of my screen now, or else it appears a little bit dark.Other than that I'm very pleased and have my filter installed on the screen at all times!I really recommend this product.

This was a good product. Fitted my Lenovo Yoga 500 very well, however i dont like it.I much prefer one that clips on so you can take it on and off. This is an adhesive sticker, and it makes the screen extremely dark, and ive found it a huge negative at night. I suffer from extreme migraines and i tend to have all the lights off at night and just use my laptop in the dark, however i cannot see the screen, i was shocked at how rubbish it was in the dark so hence why i dropped a star.If it had been a clip on one it would of gotten 5 stars.
