The 3M Black Privacy Filter is very simple to fit.The guidelines are easy to follow. The filter has a number etched on it, which enables you to know which side of the filter faces outwards. The guide uses the number “470” so you can see what you are doing on the pictures that are included with the instructions.As well as the filter, there are 6 blue strips, which fit in certain places on your computer screen depending if you have a laptop (2 side strips), touchscreen (3 strips) or a monitor (5 strips). So the number is related to the size of screen.For my MacBook Pro, I therefore stuck one strip to each of the vertical edges of the inside of the screen filter. You then wait 15 minutes and in this time,the adhesive on the blue strip transfers to the filter.During this 15-minute wait I thoroughly cleaned my MacBook screen.Once the 15 minutes are complete, you just centre the filter – adhesive side facing the computer screen – and smooth it onto the screen.After reading the instructions and before I fitted the filter, I also went to YouTube for the “3MScreens” web site – mentioned in my pack - and looked at a screen being fitted to the 13” MacBook Pro. I suggest that you take a look at this before you fit your filter. It runs for just over a minute. Note that the YouTube clip talks about little blue strips, which are added to the long blue strips. My pack version did not have the short blue strips.The 3M YouTube site also shows that you can easily remove the filter –by gently pulling it from the top centre. To reapply, just position on you computer screen and smooth it down. It also shows that if the strip edge gets dusty etc. you can gently rinse it and the filter of course. Let them dry and then reapply to the computer screen. You can get spare blue strips from 3M too.I tried the 60-degree angle test – and yes – the computer screen is black. I work near a window and I wanted the filter to block out some of the daylight glare. It has certainly helped in that matter – so top marks!One other YouTube site that I looked at showed that if the computer screen + filter are a little dim, then use “Settings” to alter the display. I did this and used the slide bar on “Display” to adjust the display brightness.My last test was closing the lid of my MacBook. It closed firmly so the filter did not interfere with that at all.So the 3M Black Privacy Filter is just the job. It is easy to fit compared with say, a smart phone anti scratch protection screen as the 3M privacy filter does not stick to the main part of the computer screen. Therefore no bubble clearing problems!

After a huge search for a suitable product, I finally went with this. I didn’t want to use a magnetic or stick on version so decided on this. There is the option to stick the filter to the screen, however I work with graphics so need to have the screen for that. The filter fits nicely and allows the mac to close while filter laying on the keyboard. I am using this with a MacBook Pro late 2012 13”. There’s room for the webcam cover I have and fits nicely to the screen. It doesn’t darken the screen too much and the most important use for it works, the discression feature works well for nosy co-workers and while commuting. Recommended.

Good quality filter screen though shame it doesn't come with a magnetic strip to enable you to remove it when necessary. The provided stickers are more of a permanent fix which is fine until you come to actually wanting to share your screen. Still a good product and you get what you pay for.
