The "Kensington laptop Screen Privacy Filter 13.3", 16: 9, protector hides personal and confidential information supports Dell, HP, Lenovo, ASUS, Acer laptops - reduced blue light via anti-glare coating" does not give the immediate impression of providing value for money. Its packaging is plain and unimpressive, unlikely to make a purchaser believe that the outlay was well-spent. It is not a completely new concept or unique as similar screens, some better designed and presented, were previously fitted to specific laptops of different screen sizes. It comprises a semi-rigid plastic sheet with a pack of adhesive strips enclosed as are a limited fitting guide and a cleaning cloth. This productrange is offered in sizes to fit a wide variety of laptops and notebooks in common screen sizes with some in 16:9 and 16:10 formats. The filter makes the screen appear completely dark and unreadable when viewed obliquely. There are two fitting options - double-sided tape strips that fit between filter and bezel or tabs that fit over the filter to the bezel - both are provided and one may be more effective or more practical than the other in some instances. This also offers anti-glare functionality for use in bright sunlight by reversing the filter. As with any anti-glare it can work, sometimes, but is not always fully effective as it will seriously diminish the screen's apparent brightness. Some brands of laptop with a reputation for dim, low contrast displays will fare worst with such filters. This fits a previously gifted HP notebook although it negates its native touch-screen facilities. If touch-screen is important, a decision about whether it or security is most relevant will need to be made. It does not have a frame or border for handling and attachment uses adhesive strips or tabs that may be ineffective on heavily textured surfaces. The filter is reversible with the anti-glare active only when its matte side faces away from the screen surface and towards its user - the screen image may then appear slightly blurred; the glossy side provides the security when it faces away from the screen and offers a sharper image at the cost of possible reflections. While some may have a real need to protect sensitive personal or commercial data while travelling on a bus, train or plane, or when in a coffee bar etc, this filter isn't perfect and can be a magnet for finger-prints. For the casual user with only an occasional need for privacy, it is unlikely to be cost-effective; £40-plus for the smallest size (the largest sizes can be double that price) may be too high a price for an individual to pay.

Other reviewers have written about the packaging and the contents so I won't mention them here. The filter has a matte and glossy side to it. The matte side is better used in very bright conditions but darkens the screen slightly and the glossy side gives a clearer view of the screen. The technical specs said that it limited the viewing angle to +/- 30°, but I found it to be nearer +/- 45°, but still enough to prevent anyone seing what your doing from the sides. The privacy screen has to be absolutely flush to the actual screen, otherwise it lifts slightly which causes the screen to darken slightly and that area to become a little unfocused.I did not fix the privacy screen to my monitor screen but instead used the frameless tab holders to stick it to the monitor's bezels. This is probably why the privacy screen would lift slightly from my monitor.Kensington makes good quality items for computers and I would normally not hesitate to recommend them. However, given that this 24" privacy screen costs £85 and in the over 25+ years I have been using computers only ever scratched my screen once, I can't recommend this as a screen protector except for perhaps family use where there are small children. Also, Amazon advertise an Acer K242HLbid 24 Inch FHD Monitor for £87 which is probably a better spec than my current monitor. However, all that said, the screen on a laptop is much more expensive to replace and so for laptop users, this screen could make a decent privacy/protection purchase. By comparison, a Kensington privacy 13" screen for a Dell XPS 13 comes to £45.53 from Amazon. A replacement laptop screen could run into several hundreds of pounds to replace. You would also be more likely to take a laptop outdoors, so again, the matte side of the privacy screen would help to reduce the glare and help block casual onlookers too.For businesses however, where screen details demand a degree of privacy, this filter will work well and will provide a good degree of privacy so it would be worth thinking of. The question is whether the business thinks it represents value for money versus their need for privacy.I was sent this screen for review purposes and did not pay for it.

The Kensington Privacy screen is easy to fir with a bit of patience and the fixing methods provided, there's a choice of double-sided tape or mounting tabs. I used the tape and mounting the screen took all of 3 minutes including cleaning. For some reason 3 of the longest tape strips wouldn't stick properly but the screen was securely fitted using the other 3 that were fine. The 3 that wouldn't stick to the screen appeared to have very little adhesive and no matter how gentle I was they just lifted off of the screen when I tried to peel the backing paper off. I'm not sure what the issue was as all of the strips come on the same sheet so you'd expect if one was faulty they would all be faulty.Having said that the "good" strips hold the screen in place very securely and if they hadn't the option of using the mounting tabs was still there. The screen is multi-functional, anyone looking at your screen from a 30 degree angle will only see a black screen. The screen has a matte finish on one side, glossy on the other,I've gone for matte to reduce glare from lighting ,the sun etc, it also reduces blue light massively, which is the most important benefit to me.The screen does what it's supposed to do and does it very well, the reduction in blue light makes for more comfortable browsing as well as bringing health benefits, blue light can seriously damage your eyes over a period of time. The double sided tape supplied with my screen wasn't great but as not all of it was defective I suspect a minor production issue and the alternative of mounting it with the tabs as an option is offered. A more important minus is the price. At the time of writing this it's on offer for £41.41 which is quite expensive, however looking at reviews of cheaper, similar, items shows that you get what you pay for and the better rated privacy screens are all around this price point.

We use these at school for exams conducted on the computer (I'm an exam invigilator) so I know how good they are at maintaining privacy, so good that the kids couldn't possibly cheat off each other. The reason I wanted one at home, though, was to reduce the glare as my eyes get tired and dry, particularly when I have my contact lenses in. For our 24 inch monitor, it fits perfectly in the width but is too deep, I thought it might not be a wide screen at first but it is. My husband thinks we should cut it but I'm not convinced :-/. It can be stuck to the surround top and bottom so it still works. We've been having a play with it and when the shiny side is facing out the privacy aspect of the screen is more pronounced but you can see reflections in it.When the matt side is facing out there is no glare and it is still private but you can tell that there is something on the screen but not what it is. At school, we can't/don't stick them to the computers as they are too expensive to have one on every computer in the school just for exams and they would get stolen, so you don't necessarily have to stick them down, we usually rub them against our clothes and stick them with static electricity. Using static electricity won't work for me at home since the screen is too big in the depth so it has to be stuck. There is an instruction booklet in a variety of languages but it doesn't tell you which side does what, I know it does on the product description page so you will need to remember that when you install the screen. Playing around with it makes me want the matte side out as it doesn't show reflections that way and I didn't find that the screen was any clearer with the shiny side out.

I needed a screen like this as I share an office with my staff and it can be awkward at times when working on confidential documents. I have wanted to order one through work, but due to budget constraints I have not been able to do so.The screen arrived well packaged, but not in too large a box given its size. Very nice screen, but unfortunately it was too big for my monitor. I am considering trimming it down, but am not sure if this would affect the performance. I misunderstood the measurements, very important to consider this when purchasing.Given some of the reviews, should I chose to trim it down I will get my own double sided tape as some of the reviewers mention that the sticky tape isnot as robust as it could be and I don’t think the clips will work for me if I am going to trim it down. The screen is effective though as I held it against my screen and it was clear that if anyone looked at the screen from an angle they would not be able to see what is on the screen. I also noticed that the glare was toned down which was good as I do suffer from headaches when I spend too long on my computer. The element of data protection in many organisations is now so paramount that budget allowing this is a good investment albeit a tad pricey for my budget

I was reminded of the importance of a good privacy screen on a recent flight when I was in a middle seat next to a dentist that was browsing through the most horrific photos throughout a 2.5-hour flightThis screen filter is decent, but I think too expensive for what it offers. Whereas it gives good privacy protection from a 1.5-2 m distance and if you are not sitting right next to the person using the computer. I think that it is fine for most use of a computer monitor, but it is important to understand that it does not provide full privacy and if you are customer facing and don't want the person to see what is on the screen, you have to ensure they are positioned accordingly. There is some reduction in brightness, but it can be rectified easily and it didn't cause any trouble. It is easy to fit and fits the screen well, however, do note that if you use the double-sided adhesive tape on the screen it is slightly noticeable at the parts where it is sticking to the screen. There is an alternative manner to put it on which works well.

The Kensington Privacy Screen comes flat packed with instructions, a cleaning cloth and mounting fixtures. The screen has a matte side and a glossy side, either of which can face you, depending on your preference. There are two methods of attaching the screen. You can attach the supplied double-sided adhesive trips to the screen and then stick the screen to your display. The other way is to attach the more ridged plastic mounting tabs to the outside edges of your display bezel and the slide the screen behind the tabs. The tabs remain on your display if you remove the screen. You need to clean your screen with the provided cloth before you start. The whole process, taking carte with the adhesive strip application, takes no longer than ten minutes. The double-sided strips have an adhesive side and a tacky side. The adhesive goes on the screen and the tacky side goes onto the display. The privacy screen limits the viewing angles of your display very effectively and can change the reflective surface of the display if you wish.

Although this is not on my laptop, I ordered it for the other half as I’m very on the ball when it comes to privacy, especially with sensitive or confidential information and thought this would be useful for his work laptop that does indeed contain sensitive work data. These are his thoughts on it:* Although it actually wasn’t the right size for my laptop, it was very easy to cut down to size with standard scissors.* The screen protector comes with a screen cloth and some blue tags to enable you to put it on the screen without (hopefully) fingerprints.* States privacy is around 30 degrees either direction (which tried to highlight in the video attached).* Quick and easy assemble time.* Very good high quality.* Still day on the fence with regards to the price/value for money, but certainly if money wasn’t an issue for something like this then I’d definitely go for it.Overall, I’d say this is a high quality design with great features. Would be happy to recommend.

What is it? This is a plastic screen that sits on top of your touch screen device, and provides a level of security from people looking over your shoulder. It essentially restricts the angles from which the screen can be viewed from virtually 90 degrees of arc either side of the normal (i.e., any angle from the front) to about 30 degrees of arc either side of the normal. It attaches relatively easily, and the touch screen facility is largely retained, though I do find I have to press a little harder or repeatedly in certain areas of the screen. The privacy feature works well, with the view from straight ahead only slightly distorted (not enough to be a problem) and the view form the sides completely blacked out.The cut out is quite sharp as you rotate the device. Works as it is supposed to, only 4 stars for the slight distortions and the slight loss of sensitivity of the screen.

This is an effective Privacy Filter. I know it is effective because in a Dual Monitor setup a situation in which I can't seat right in front of either Monitor, it is hard to read the screens unless I keep moving to be right in front of any of the Monitors. So that shows how hard it is for someone seated by your side to see what is on the Screen. So I use it on another PC that has only one Monitor and located in a relatively busy room so I am happy that the chance of people seeing what is on my screen is minimal. That said, the adhesive tape provided is not good. The filter keeps falling down. I do not like the alternative provided as are to be stuck directly on the screen. So I have had to use some adhesive strips I have which actually sticks.

The privacy protector works great, the further you view the protector from the side the darker the screen becomes before turning completely black. When facing from straight on, It does make the overall brightness slightly darker so I would only recommend for devices that color quality and brightness isn't a problem e.gI RECOMMEND FOR:Work only monitors,Phones and tablets,I DON'T RECOMMEND FOR:Gaming Devices,Video and photo editing monitors,Overall, the privacy protector works flawlessly, it makes viewing from any position other than straight on very difficult, But does slightly reduce the brightness when looking straight on.

We decided to put this on hubby's HP laptop I enjoy reading my Kindle on the garden he likes to use his laptop but normally has to go sit far away from me to be in the shade otherwise he cannot see his screen, we put this on it was very simple to do, he is now able to sit in the sun right next to me in the sun he can finally see his screen! We are delighted :)

Good secrecy on the screen from different angles with a lovely brightness on the screen not affected. The protector also takes away the screen glare, which was an added bonus. The adhesion tape that came with the screen protector does not stick well. I had to use a different type of tape to hold it in place. this let the product down

This is good for preventing people looking at your screen from the side. The two sides are different – one is matt which reduces glare and minimises fingerprints but gives a slightly less clear view of the screen. The other is gloss which does the reverse (a better view of the screen but you get glare and fingerprints show more).

I really liked the screen, it did what it said on the tin gave good secrecy on the screen from different anglesThe protector also takes away the screen glare, which was an added bonus. The adhesion tape that came with the screen protector does not stick well.
