After hearing the hype about this game I was very wary about buying it, especially as I was happy with Colin McRae 3 at the time. However after putting it in and switching it on I have to say that the game pretty much lives up to it.There are plenty of different games to choose from - a full championship, a quick race with a random car over a random track, a time trial (where you choose the car and track), an on-line challange where you can compare your times with other people, a two-player split-screen, a multiplayer, and a make-your-own rally or championship.Graphically the game is astounding. The scenery is beyond beautiful and smoothly-rendered, with individual trees being visible on the mountainside in the distance, and the quality of the brickwork on the houses as you speed past. This becomes even more apparent on the replays where one of the shots is an overhead follow-cam from a chasing helicopter - it tracks your car close up for a while, then zooms right out to show a vast vally or mountain-scape and your car is a tiny dot twisting and turning up the sides. Truly breathtaking! The sounds are good, with each car's engine being slightly different. A nice effect is the horns that sound when you fly past a group of spectators. The music that plays on replays and on the main menu are good and fit in with the game.Playability - this is a tricky one. I found McRae 3 to be a bit too 'arcadey' for my liking (too easy to control) so when I played WRC 2 I just could not control the car at all. This nearly caused me to send it back! Fortunately I stuck with it and found that once you get used to it, the controls are actually intuitive without being TOO realistic and simulation-style.There are only seven different cars to choose from (obviously one from each WRC team), but you can also choose your driver (and his co-driver). The faces of each driver are surprisingly accurate to their real-life counterparts. However you can unlock six 'extreme' cars by completing various stages of the game (these are a bit of a let down as they are just six of the initial cars with more power and a more aggressive bodykit). The real variety comes in the form of the stages. There are no fewer than FOURTEEN beautifully-rendered countries, each being different to the other in terrain, surface, weather conditions, and so on. And each country has NINE different stages, albeit some are reversed versions of the same tracks - although on-track you would not be able to tell! The detail is also pretty amazing, with flocks of birds darting out of your way as you pass over a crest, or the shafts of light that your car throws on the sides of buildings up in the hills of Greece on a night stage. One important part of rallying (whether gaming or the real thing) is definitely the co-driver and the quality of his calls. From reviews I have read, WRC 2's co-driver has been pretty much slated. I disagree with this entirely, as you will find your co-driver making the same quality calls as either Colin McRae 2 or 3. The only difference is that a '6' in McRae means a fast corner, while in WRC it means a tight corner - although you soon get used to this (the hard way!)Overall this is an excellent rally game - better in graphics than the excellent Colin McRae 3 and better in playability than the (sometimes infuriating) V-Rally 3.

honestly this has to be the most realistic wrc rally game ever, the creaters of this game really knew what they were doing, every country on this game really feels like your their, rallys are tough and stages are tiring, just as a real rally driver! this game even has night stages it got 9/10 and i can see why now! i have evolve which is also a good game but this has to be the pick of the bunch 115 stages in all over 15 countries, were in 2013 and wrc 3 (ps3, xbox 360) doesnt even have that many tracks! realistic handling great damage and the car interiors are just perfect this is a must buyer for any1 who likes rally!

Nearly everything about this is great apart from one thing, even the slightest collision with a roadside object will fling the back of the car round like the tyres are made of greased eels or something, obviously it's best not to hit anything, but when you're on a good run and a minor scuff with the railings sees you practically do a 180 and either have to reset/restart or waste precious time doing a 3 point turn it's a little galling, night time races are at a minimum thankfully,it does take a whopping 1500kb of your memory card though and finishing the rally doesn't open up any new stuff.
