I'd looked at this for months and even though I thought it worth the money I hesitated to spend so much on a garlic press.I do love garlic though so I tried a few cheaper presses and was disappointed in every last one of them. My penultimate one juddered and made ominous noises when I tried to do two small peeled cloves.I decided that I was actually wasting money by not going for this press and duly sent off for it; I was quite looking forward to getting it and trying it out. What I didn't anticipate was just how beautiful a piece of work it is. It is larger and glossier than the picture can convey and it just glistens with promise. Holding it,you know that you are holding quality that is built to last. The handles fit beautifully into your hand and it is designed so that you can press down without having to put much effort into it. I like peeling my garlic but I easily pressed two large slightly woody cloves with no overflow or side overflow. My other presses pressed the garlic out in a pulpy bunch, leaving behind a mixture of thick outer layer and pressed garlic. This one presses the garlic out in a way that it almost looks like mince. The garlic presses with separate press container have had that piece roll away or have warped when pressed off angle. Since this is all one piece there are no parts to lose or to have get bent out of shape. The inside opens up fully exposing a flat washing surface but if you wish and you can raise the container for even easier cleaning; it only takes a few seconds and you're done.I could bore you silly going on and on about this marvelous bit of kit but I'll wind up by saying that if you love garlic, you will adore this.

Well I was really looking forward to receiving this garlic press after reading the rave reviews even though it was expensive but when it arrived I was not imprest!I was shocked to find that it was covered in loads of scratches (just being packed in a plastic bag could not have helped!) and for the cost of the dam thing you would have thought it would arrive in pristine condition especially when it came from Germany AND should have been packed in a box!Now I am not OCD or anything but when paying out that sort of money on ANYTHING I expect it to be in ''as new'' condition! The reason I am giving it three stars is that it still does the job and is well made, but take care if you are buying this as a gift as it may arrive in less than pristine condition!I have managed to polish the scratches out with a metal polish instead of having the hassle of sending the thing back and it does not look to bad now.UPDATE:After my initial gripe about the presses condition on arrival I have now calmed down and can give a proper review! This press is the best I have ever owned, it is well made from high grade 10/18 stainless steel and has real heft to it, making it a really easy job to squeeze even the hardest (unpeeled) clove! The press is really quick and easy to clean too, you just pull the handle right back on itself and the hopper just opens away from the body of the press so you can just scrape away all the skin and then just give it all a quick rinse under the tap and its has clean as a whistle again.without a doubt the best Garlic press available and well worth the money!

I had an OXO GoodGrips garlic crusher for a few years and it was pretty good. It got most of the garlic from an unpeeled clove, and was OK to clean. However, a few weeks ago the damn thing snapped through the handles. Reading reviews on Amazon told me I was not the only one. In short: don't get the OXO unless you enjoying buying replacement garlic presses. .I bought a replacement from Tesco. This highlighted how good the OXO had been in comparison: it could barely crush a unpeeled clove and most of the garlic squirted out of the sides. It also felt flimsy. Another purchase from Argos yielded no better results. I read reviews of this (expensive)garlic press on here and took the plunge.Simply: this is the best garlic press money can buy.It is sturdy, and will not snap like the OXO GoodGrips. The amount of garlic expressed is something to behold. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, but the skin comes out in one squeeze. I'm actually reducing the number of cloves used in my recipes because this gets so much out! It is a cinch to clean and can take a good size clove, too. Absolutely well worth the money - I will never buy another brand of press again, and, with how solid the WMF is, I suspect the only other (WMF) presses I buy will be as gifts. It makes crushing garlic an enjoyable marvel at excellent engineering. You will not regret paying a bit extra for this one.

I cannot deny that this is an amazing piece of German engineering however I am slighly disappointed with the result. I had purchased this since it had received such amazing reviews but the final result was courser crushed garlic and there was also a tendency for slivers of garlic to be extruded from each side of the perforated plate and sliding up the side wall. This is caused by the perforating plate not being wide enough - without using a micrometer I can see about 0.5mm daylight between the edge of the perforating plate and each side of the sidewalls. My original garlic press was purchased at an Ikea store for £2.25 (IKEA KONCIS Garlic Press Stainless Steel)and although slightly harder to load a garlic bulb (no need to peel) the end result was a much finer paste due to slightly smaller and more closely spaced holes than the WMF. Also the fact that the garlic bulb is in a enclosed removable chamber resulted in just paste without any slivers. Having this removable chamber made the Ikea press very easy to clean. After using both I will returning to my Ikea as my main press and I would suggest anyone contemplating purchasing the WMF to try the Ikea one first.

After years of successive garlic presses, some really cheap and cheerful, others more expensive; when the last one broke I decided enough was enough. I trawled through various websites, read reviews and then decided to blow my budget and invest in the WMF garlic press. I told my partner what I had invested his hard earned money on and let's just say he was a 'trifle perplexed'!However, we are both keen cooks and garlic is a key ingredient in our culinary offerings on a daily basis. So when the new press arrived and was inspected by himself I could see he was impressed by this very shiny and weighty offering of German engineering. And we are both agreed that this was indeed a great investment. It performs really well and deals with the largest cloves of garlic with the greatest of ease. It is beautifully constructed and I think will be inherited by my children long after I depart this world!A great investment!

For sure - it's expensive, the Rolls Royce of garlic presses, it's solid as a rock, no wobble, and heavy. It reduces a large garlic clove into a useable stream of garlic strings on the outside ( which needs scraping off the press with a knife to clear it) and leaves the gunge inside. You'll also need a knife to scrape out the gunge into a bin and then rescue the odd bits of useable squidged garlic that have come out up the side of the handle (so it isn't perfect!)Everything opens up, including the garlic cage, so the whole thing is easy to clean under a running tap. It won't rust, the metal is top quality. Uour hands will get sticky through this whole process so be aware that they'll need washing too.It produces garlic paste, essentially, and it does it well - but it's still a hands-on experience. Not using a garlic press so often but still managed to break a couple so far, so got fed up of spending £7-10 every now and again. When I decided to buy this one, it cost just a bit more than I actually wanted to pay for a garlic press. I looked for some cheaper ones but although they had good reviews, some people were not 100% happy about the items getting discolored (aluminum ones), coating coming off them, not being easy to clean, hard to use etc. No such problems with this one at all. Stainless steel, robust, easy to use and clean, feels like will last forever. You can get more expensive ones, but I doubt they'll be any better.Update: 23 Feb 2019. Eight years later still looks and works just like brand new.It is considerably more expensive this days though, but I think it's still a good investment.

I've had this for a year now, replacing a cheap supermarket press bought a few years ago which badly discoloured and eventually broke. Make no mistake, this garlic press is very expensive and I had to think several times before I purchased it. I'm not disappointed, and can see why it's expensive as it's beautifully made, superbly engineered, exceedingly robust, and very easy to clean. No need to peel garlic cloves, just put them in there and this press will crush them without much effort. The garlic comes out like a very fine mince rather than a paste. After a year of good use, this garlic press is as good as new, very pleased with it, and in my opinion well worth the cost, I'm certain, given the quality, it'll last forever! Highly recommended, if you love garlic, you won't be disappointed!

Hands down this is the best garlic press we have ever had.Yes I know it's a little sad getting excited over a mere kitchen gadget, but garlic is important. We cook a lot and like so many people we have never had a "great" garlic press. So many of the ones you buy are cheap, and either difficult to clean, difficult to crush or built to a very low quality standard. This press is above all that.It has a cantilever action to get extra pressure. It has a hinged mince part that swings out and can be scraped clean with the back of a cooks knife or other metal implement. The steel is thick and sturdy, so this should last years. The best thing I can say is that after 12 months of use,we have just bought a second one to give to a very close friend. These are not cheap, but they are good value.

I'd given up on ever finding a decent garlic press. The ones I've used have either bent, rusted, broken far too easily or been fiddly to clean/dry. I don't think I'm going to have any such problems with this press. It seems a bit pricey but it is extremely solid and very well designed. It's not so much been made as "engineered". It crushes large cloves (or even several cloves at a time) effortlessly and with none of the messy spillage that you often get with other presses. You can partially unfold it to scoop off the clove remnants ready for the next one, or completely unfold it for more thorough cleaning.Because the steel "grid" is so thin the bits just seem to wash off easily under a running tap. After drying it all folds back into itself.I just love it. Would recommend to anyone.

I was thinking recently: this garlic press is literally the best thing I’ve ever bought.Nothing else I own is so extravagantly good at what it does. It stands in a class of its own, in terms of quality and solidness. And I guess it should, for the price. You get what you pay for. If I spent the same relative amount on car, there would be a Ferrari in my drive. But I suspect I would still prefer the garlic press. It has an... indestructible essence that’s hard to describe. If WWW3 nuked the planet, all that would be left is the cockroaches and the WMF garlic presses.I shudder at the thought of what they could not crush. They smash through garlic like it isn’t there. Even if the skin is still on.They don’t care. They destroy all.Seriously, treat yourself. You won’t regret it.

I received this as a present (quite a bizarre thing to unwrap on Christmas Day). Initially I was sceptical as I already had a rather nice M&S garlic press, and wondered why on earth I should replace it. However, it is a lovely hefty piece of kit, with a superbly smooth action, and it all hinges apart to clean without any parts actually needing removal (and the subsequent reassembly). The garlic chamber is a very good size - it can certainly hold a fat clove or two without any side seepage of lesser models. It cleans well, and just looks rather lovely. IF you have the funds, or know someone who loves to cook, and you want to get something that will definitely last a lifetime or ten, then this is a very nice thing indeed.

they have really put thought and effort into making this the easiest garlic press in the world to use and clean. It's not perfect, but nothing can be! So some residue will still need a bit of cleaning. It's as tightly machined as one could imagine or desire however, and very little garlic escapes out the sides etc (to those familiar with operating less efficient attempts at this kind of thing). This is the one and not to be put in the same category as other garlic presses. We still uses garlic crushers, we still use a micro grater (but that risks fingers), with still slice and dice garlic, but if you've got to do a fair bit of garlic, this is the puppy!

Bought as a gift for someone who threw down the gauntlet by saying "find me a decent garlic press please, in all my life, I have never had one that works properly" (he is 56, so quite a challenge). I did my research (looked on Amazon) and read all the reviews, and plumped for this brilliantly engineered beauty. It is fantastic, you really don't need to peel the cloves and the mechanism is so clever and sturdy and easy to clean. Nothing escaped from the press (unlike my own garlic press) and there is very little waste. Yes, it is expensive, but I am confident that it will last a long time and might be at risk of being stolen.......!

I have (several times) but now have a press which will be left in my will to a deserving relative. SIMPLE, stainless steel, heavyweight and crushes the life out of 2 food sized garlic cloves at a time (no need to peal). It is extremely easy to clean - open it up and pull open the plate against which the garlic is pressed. A quick rinse and it is done. It is a little more expensive than many other options but it works! sometimes it is just worth paying a few quid more for the pleasure of knowing that you have a lifetime of happy pressing (and cleaning) ahead of you. (Delivered in 24 hours too which was good)
