I hired the game rather than bought it as i new it would be very similar to fifa 2005. I wanted to see if my pet hates (1- the corners 2- no short free kicks 3- AI backtracking following loss of possession 4- poor marking 5- no ping filter when playing online) had been replaced.Well, 1 and 2 show definite improvement. The corners (and direct free kicks) are better although online play makes the power bar a little bit dodgy). But that adds to the element of suprise I think and removes cast iron certainty of goals from certain positions. So it is not a bad thing. There are short free kicks and corners which add realism and variety to attacks. So 1 and 2 are improvements and I would be happy to see them in fifa 2006.The backtracking when losing possession is ok but not great. When playing against the computer it tries (as the offensive team) to compensate for this by playing a lot of sideways and back passes until you are back in position, but when you play a human opponent the order of the day is the counter attack and it is still quite common for the central attacking midfielder to charge some 60 virtual yards up the middle of the pitch wihout a defender in sight, before being met by a line of defenders in front of the penalty box. I am no football expert by any means but i know what looks right and what doesnt. Surely a bit of guideance from a professional football coach will enable better defensive AI next time. The same goes for man marking. Apart from the human controlled player and the player assist, none of the other players seem interested in tackling or tracking their opponents. Instead they are more inclined to hold their formation. Combined with the defensive AI mentioned above, online play tends to resemble basketball with the ball wizzing from one end to the other with possession changing around the penalty box D.Dont get me wrong. It isnt that bad, it is in my opinion closer to real football than pro evo 4 and bearing in mind the games only last about 10 minutes it does ensure a fair bit of goalmouth action for your money. The online game remains uefa / Fifa's ace up its sleeve on the ps2 compared to Pro-evo. Believe me, despite its faults, the game is an addictive experience online. The beauty of it being that your opponents all play slightly differently and at different levels of skill.Uefa's the online mode is exactly the same as fifa 2005. Even down to being able to send messages between players using either game. Online play is designed for bandwidths above 600kb per second but judging by some of the laggy games I have had to endure (you get punished if you quit) a lot of people are using the budget broadband 250k connection and ruining it for everyone. There is a ping counter of sorts, which for some reason EA Sports leave you to fathom out for yourself, but it would have been much better if you could set a filter to block opponents who clearly have substandard connections. Curiously the filter is present in the tournament mode but not as a personal setting ??The game has only been in the shops for about a week but i was suprised to see only about a dozen people online when I logged in last night and that only something like 500 people in total had been online. This is far fewer than with fifa 2005 after it had only been in the shops a couple of days.Unfortunately that dozen or so people were all choosing either ac milan or real madrid or arsenal. so little variety in teams to play. Why isnt there an option to enable equal skills between teams? Then people would be more inclined to choose their home town team.A couple more points. The commentary is better than fifa 2005. The replays are better. There is more incentive to attack down the wings. The goalies are slightly better. If like me you prefer manual cursor selection than automatic, you may be a bit disappointed by it. I found on a couple of occasions that despite pressing X several times, the most obvious player could not be selected. This was while defending against an attack down the wing.Overall i think this is a better playing experience than fifa 2005 and therefore is the best PS2 footy game around. But there is still room for improvement!!!!

After playing FIFA 2005 and not being particularly impressed with it, I was slightly worried that they were going to take the promising concept of the Champions League and wreck it but after playing 2 games I was extremely surprised, I only bought this game because of my love of the atmosphere in the Champions League, this is replicated perfectly in this game. Also I couldn't believe my ears when I first started playing, it wasn't John Motson and Ally McCoist doinf commentary it was ITV's Clive Tyldsley and Andy Gray, I was worried Motson would be doing commentary, not only because his voice is really annoying but it would also take away the authenticity of the game.It has also tried something that no other game has tried,it's season mode known as 'The Season' is completely mission based with some objectives like win by 2 goals or get a player rating of 8 or better with Arjen Robben. This is extremely good and it has worked a treat. In some season modes you sometimes have to force yourself to play the game but with a new challenge thrown up every time you just want to keep on going to see what is next. If players play poorly your chairman forces you to sell them and buy replacement players within a certain budget, if your players recover their form they will not need to be sold. It is really annoying at the beginning when you have to sell one Starting XI Defender, Midfielder and Attacker, this is pointless as they are needed and you don't wan't to get rid of them, also this would never happen and takes away a bit of realism. Also in 'The Season' there is EA Sports Talk Radio where you hear about what supporters think about recent performances by the team and their hopes for the future, this is very realistic as it has TalkSport's own Tony Cascarino and Patrick Kinghorn. This can however become tedious as there are not too many pre-recorded messages and they become repetitive.First Touch remains and it is still easy to use, this is a great game and captures the champions league perfectly.BRILLIANT!!!

I've had this game for quite a while now; my cousin gave it to me and never asked for it back - long story!Anyhow, as a footie title, this game is really interesting. The Season mode confirms this. Basically, this is a mission-based football game which means that for every mission of the season mode, you have a set amount of objectives to complete. What this is varies from mission to mission. For example, you might have to keep a clean sheet for one match and then score a goal with a designated player in another. What you end up with is a very interesting and challenging game, even at the best of times. There's also a transfer market section of the Season mode and this one is the bomb. Basically, you can buy and sell players at will. However, in most cases, it is the owner who decides what positions you will be buying for. Overall, it is not a big issue and can work really well in your favour by the game's end. Finally, the overall playing style of this game is top class. This was the good old days of footie games... the FIFA series could really use this now, that's for sure. Besides, I haven't bought a FIFA game since! Everything just flows nicely with this game - from taking shots, passing, free kicks and penalties, the game really plays well!In terms of the graphics, yes, it is outdated now... still, this is one of the best football games around, in my opinion.Last, but certainly not least, I am replaying this game at the moment in an attempt to win the Champions League with Everton... COME ON THE TOFFEES!!!!Buy it. Money well spent.

This is awesome. SO WHAT ARE THE IMPROVEMENTS ON TOP OF FIFA 2005Well firstly a completely refined set piece system:For freekicks you finally get the choice of short ball passing it to a short of goal player to. You then ofcourse can curl it or hit it hard. You can also play lobbed balls for heading in.For corners the old method has gone to be replaced with a method that has similarities to the old and the really old method, once more a short ball method exists.Tuned gameplay, there are slightly different skill moves and also slightly more, the midfield is much more closed up making it harder to get to the box every timeNEW RULESHANDBALL, FINALLY,ADVANTAGE,ALWAYS BEEN THERE BUT IS NOW BETTER AND MORE OBVIOUSEXTRA TIME SHOWING it tells you how long it will be roughlyUNFAIR DECISIONS the more tricky decisions can be wrongly done ( THIS IS ON PURPOSE BY EA) this ranges for let offs on tackles, corners/ goalkicks given wrongly right up to goal dissallowed if it only just rolls over the line ( NOTE THIS IS NOT USUALLY THE CASE IT HAPPENS VERY VERY RARELY once every 25 games probably.

CLASS GAME!!! This game over-shadows FIFA 2005 and PRO EVO.But don't just think it's simply a copy of FIFA; no no no it's more...Basically all the bugs from FIFA have been mended, well, there is one or two still around, but nothing that ruins the game as in FIFA. Game play is quality:*NEW set piece system. Corners and free kicks are now brilliant.*NEW shooting system*NEW passing and crossing system.*NEW transfer system (you are told by the owner what positions to buy for and what positions to sell, who you buy or sell is entirely up to you)From the out you take control of any team you like. The first task is to win the final game of the season to attain the exclusive CHAMPIONS LEAGUE place. If you win; a new owner comes in and buys your club and gives you a big wad of cash. Your mission is to become League and Champions league Champions.100/10"THE TENSION IS BACK INTO AN EA FOOTY GAME, A FEAT THAT HASN'T BEEN ATTAINED SINCE WORLD CUP 98"

I have always been a Fifa fan and EA sports have done it again!Choose from any of the top flight teams' leagues and get the gold, while playing a game you are given tasks to complete (e.g. score 4 goals, Stop Roy Makaay from scoring 1 goal, get more than 10 shots on target). The gameplay is almost the same as Fifa but deadball situations have been improved. As Fifa 2000 fans will remember unlockables were made available. NOW.... the unlockables are (3rd kits, play with a beach ball, have an invisible wall around the pitch, blindfold the ref, concrete pitch.) 25 unlockables!!!If you are a football fan this is a must buy, i cannot exaggerate how good this game is!!!

When I first played the game I thought I had just brought another version of Fifa 2005, because the menus are all the same and so are the controls, but the game play is faster, which is good. The free kicks and corners are quite hard but i suppose you get used to it after a while. If i have one complaint it is this. I was Chelsea in the champions league and we needed a away win at Benifica and it played the first 70 miniutes on it's own before I could play and we were 1-0 down. But i suppose it is more of a challenge. But I do not regret buying it!!!

Pure class. Uefa 04-05 provides outstanding graphics and feels just like your watching it on the tele. A rubbish sound trackbut The ea sports talk radio is great. You can create your own footballer and there are 4 mode's to choose from. The perfect game for footie lovers 5 stars!!!!!!!!.

this game is a vast improvement on the fifa games that have been released over the past few years. The freekick taking is much better along with the corners and overall controls. If you support Southampton and you want to take them to european glory buy this game!
