I took delivery of this a couple of weeks ago but have only just started using it properly. The machine seems to be very robustly made indeed and although it has handles to move it around, it would be best sited semi-permanently because it's quite heavy. I have mine bolted to an old Black & Decker Workmate and and although this was meant to be a temporary measure, it seems to be working well and although heavy, it's relatively easy to move around if I need to make space so I may leave it as it is.The first tough job I've used it for has been the re-sizing of ancient pitch pine to dress out a log cabin which we're building and I'm well impressed.Pitch pine is denser then normal pine and it's also heavy with resin so it's a good test of the machine. I've been resizing timber off the saw to a variety of sizes, thicknesses and widths. The impressive thing is that every single finished face is flawless, regardless of thickness, width or length; other than prepping for varnish or oil, there's no further work to be done. One reviewer has complained about waste of the first inch or so of the timber, I have experienced none of this so I assume he is not feeding the timber flat on the workbed. Once fed (properly), the machine self-feeds the timber at a manageable speed, releasing it for an easy grab at the other side.Likewise, he has complained of it being noisy. It's a very powerful electric motor driving wide blades at very high speed so it will be noisy in a confined space but I find it only a little more noisy than my bench saw or my radial arm saw. You can always work with your iPod and noise-cancelling headphones!I've only tried a few offcuts of some very hard heart of oak and they've come out as smooth as the pitch pine has but I've yet to give it a scare with any very wide oak but I'm pretty sure that if I'm modest with each cut then it'll perform ok. How the blades will retail their sharpness, only time will tell. Sharing the load across the width of the blades should help to give even wear. Finally, the instructions are pretty clear, not that it's a complicated piece of machinery to operate, but there is none of the head-scratching poor translation cryptology or, sadly, the howlers you get when the Chinese have a go at translating without the help of Google. All in all, a good buy and I'm very pleased with it indeed.

I have been looking around for a thicknesser for about six months, I have read reviews and watched many videos! Of course if money wasn't a consideration I would have spent much more! I have seen a few thicknessers for less than this model but not many, in the end it came down to this one a dewalt and Makita both approximately £200.00 more, when I looked at reviews the Makita and Dewalt had slightly more negative responses! So I opted for the Triton !, it arrived on time well packaged and nothing missing, the set up was so easy I checked twice thinking I must have missed something. I set it up yesterday and had it running to test it, I started with a piece of pallet wood 2x4 inch and about 4ft length,it was quite rough and had a few knots , in no time it was worked to an impressive squired block, it was smooth and wouldn't require sanding, from there I passed many pieces of softwood through the machine all passed my tests, any errors were due to me not the machine for example not noticing a piece tapering wood and setting the height for the thin end, it jammed, I pressed stop raised the cutting head turned the wood reset the high , continuing to pass it through the machine, when the rollers loose contact I manual pushed and the pulled it through eventual the wood was square and smooth, so far I am happy with the machine and purchase ,after all it is a budget machine I didn't have overly high expectations however I am more than pleased.

Got my Triton TPT125 yesterday and so far l am extremely impressed. It's well made and finished and although l know there has been criticisms about it having plastic sides but to be honest l think it's nicer (certainly better finished than the all metal Clarke) and appears to have plenty of power. I've put it through its paces with some redwood, Idigbo and some oak and l have to say again I'm extremely impressed because it all came out clean, flawless, didn't struggle with the oak and, much to my supprise, with very little snipe! Having borrowed a Clarke thicknesser from a friend to try l was left wondering if l really wanted to have one as l didn't like it and it led me on to thinking that I should go for a more expensive one like a Makita.Well at half the price this machine is worth much more and performs perfectly well. Now, it may not stand up to the riggers of site work like a Makita but then that's not what it was bought for, also it has to be said that it's noisy, but then they all are so just get good ear protection and send a bottle of wine over the the neighbours. I already have a Record PT107 thicknesser/ planer but as good as it is, it not the best for smaller pieces and final finishing of some softer woods so the Triton will be a great addition and l know will get a lot of use. Would l recommend the TPT125? Yes definitely, for the money I'm more than happy, Mike.

Have owned this product for just over a year now, and thought now is a good time to put a review together. Firstly, don't let the low price lull you into thinking that you'll not get much for your money. This machine can compete with the DeWalts and Makitas of this world, easily.I have put a variety of hardwoods and softwoods through this and it has eaten them up without so much as breaking a sweat. I've put 2" x 12" solid slabs of oak through, I've put Walnut through, Pine, Poplar, Limewood, Sycamore to name a few, and every single cut comes out clean. The roller bar at the top of the unit is a great touch, as it allows you to lift the piece from the outfeed end and roll it over to the other side,so if you are tight of space (like most single garage owners like me) this a convenient feature to move 20kg+ pieces of wood from one side to the other. If I did have one niggle, it would be as I believe others have said, which is that Triton didn't see fit to make a 100mm outlet direct on the machine. This thing produces more chips than McDonalds! Luckily it has a 50mm outlet which you can easily get converters from making it a minor inconvenience rather than a problem. That being said, I'd still give this 10/10 - save your money from buying the more expensive brands - you'll not be disappointed with this!

I bought this for occasional, rather light home use. I've recently started building electric guitars at home, and a thicknesser is very useful for several stages of a build.I have used it a small number of times, and I'm very impressed with the results. The planed surface is really smooth, even shiny, and requires very little finishing. I'm currently working on a one-piece guitar body, and I just managed to fit the whole thing through the thicknesser, and the result was beyond my expectations. The only slight problem is that the opening of 317mm is slightly narrower than most guitar bodies, but then again most guitar bodies are made of two or more pieces,so you can simply plane the pieces before gluing them.I had a very minor amount of snipe at one end, but that's without making any adjustments yet, and I'm confident that I will be able to set it up to eliminate that.I hesitated before buying this tool because the description says that it works in 1.6mm increments. As I suspected, this is badly worded, and just means that one rotation of the handle moves the head by 1.6mm, but it is infinitely adjustable between those steps. The Triton thicknesser doesn't have some of the features that you will find on more expensive machines, but it does what I wanted very, very well.

Always Thought I wanted a planer thicknesser but the cheap ones had issues switching between planer and thicknesser and the expensive ones were too expensive. I looked at a lot of YouTube videos and they showed how you could make a jig to flatten that first side on a particularly bad piece of wood. I could then square it at the table saw and use the thicknesser for everything else.... like others have said before, it’s noisy, it makes a lot of chips (or mess if you don’t have extract) but it’s brilliant. The finish almost doesn’t need sanding. I addressed the issue of Snipe by adding some sacrificial bits of plywood at each end using hot glue. I did this because I wanted to use the entire length of this mahogany. The other option is to thickness a larger length and then cut it shorter to remove any snipe. There are other methods of avoiding snipe. I’m really pleased with this purchase. I won’t be using it all of the time and therefore price was important. This thicknesser ticked all of the boxes for me.

I ordered the Triton Thicknesser based on reveiws on amazon and online. Almost all over the line the reviews were good to excellent. And it didn;t disappoint. The service from the supplier was excellent from the moment I ordered it. Great follow-up on the status of the shipment all the way.It arrived very well packed, without any damage at all. The assembly is very simple and it took about 15 minutes from unpacking until it was ready to use. And it doesn't disappoint. I haven't had the opportunity/ time to use it as much as I would want but did some tests on different types of wood and sizes. It does exactly what you would expect and it does it very well. All in all,a very good piece of equipment which I am sure will be very useful for a long time. The good experience I've had with the Triton Thicknesser and good online and Amazon reviews have convinced me to order the Triton Oscillating Spindle and Belt Sander. If it is as good as the Thicknesser I can't fail.

I retired about a year ago having dabbled with woodwork all my life. The last year has seen me become an aficionado of hand planing, buying several planes of varying quality, old Stanley's to a new No7 Clifton, I have learned how to sharpen and generally fettle a plane. I took delivery of this today having had other Triton stuff and had expectations about how it might perform. I just got rid of an Elektra Beckum 260 planer thicknesser. I was staggered by the quality and smoothness of the finish produced by this machine. I planed a 400 mm piece of 100mm wide pine. It looked fantastic, there was a little snipe at each end but other than that it looked ready to take finish. I tried some mahogany with similar results.I am really not sure now how I am going to approach my future planing tasks; if I can get rid of the snipe it will be even harder. I will update this review in a few weeks but initial view is what a fantastic machine.

I purchased the Triton Planer/Thicknesser a few months back and have since put it through its paces regularly and it is still producing a nice surface at the end for a final finish.I was a bit wary of purchasing the thicknesser due to the different reviews, but as I was in desperate need for a thicknesser and this was the one with the widest capacity for next day delivery I went for it and I haven't been disappointed. The cons of the machine is that its noisey, really noisey, creates loads of mess(which is ideal if you have a wood burner or a bbq smoker, depending on the wood of course) and it is a heavy machine so a platform to support its weight needs to be considered. The first inch or so of the timber going through it will be waste as the blades create a dip when feeding the timber through, so you would have to bear that in mind.Despite the cons Im very pleased with the machine and glad I made the purchase.

Amazing machine! Right a few things to point out with this machine I noticed that the circuit breaker is not on the front of the machine as stated in the manual it's on the left of the infeed to the left of the switch on and off in the manual it says it's on the right anyways it's well worth what I paid for it I'm glad that this was on sale when it was the finished products are fantastic. I read some reviews saying that it's a messy machine and thought ah never mind but when you actually see what it does you realise why. Don't fit the hose for the vacuum unless you have one it will over heat the motor anyway I would recommend this to any one diy or professional it's a doddle to use and highly accurate :)very pleased with this machine nice one triton good job! Also if you get that dip from the end cut put it through a few more times on the depth that you set it will give a fantastic finish

It’s very early days but I’m really pleased with the results. Only processed a handful of sapele boards and some rough pallet wood test boards.I’m doing light work- small boat building. The unit won’t be running all day and that’s why I chose a bench mount unit. The unit is heavy- 30kg. Yes the orange sides are plastic- maybe don’t let it roll around the back of a transit. The cutter came set up and square to the table. No adjustment of the head required. The infeed and outfeed need tweaking- a 10min job with a Wixey.First couple of goes had a little snipe. Adjustment of the tables mitigated this. Further use of an outfeed roller from my table saw reduced this to zero.Impressive for a £300 machine. The machined finish really is excellent. You would be on very fine grits to take it further. If it bursts into flames, I’ll update. At this point it’s a great value recommendation.

There have been many superlatives laid at the feet of this great Planer/Thickneser and all are deserved. I won't add any more than just to say my findings. I have planed many old four inch posts that have cleaned up like new, and many rough sawn tanalised planks that are smooth when planed (I make a lot of planters and this is a great addition to my tool collection)Its important that what you are planning is dry as I have found wet would sticks somewhat through the machine and then the blade bites into the stuck part. But when dry timber is used its a great little machine. Absolutely mad sure whatever you plane has ZERO nails of metal pieces on it because that will really mess up the blade!!But they are reasonably priced for a pair and you can turn them over and go again so get double life of of one blade.

Wow!!! I'm new to woodworking and thought I would invest in this machine since it was affordable unlike other brands. I purchased it a few months ago but I've only just used it, and typically of me I didn't read the instructions, but, it's that straight forward to use I was amazed. I like tinkering with wood and like to make things out of pallets and this planer makes the wood look brand new, the only downside was, because I was planing pallet wood, I must have missed a nail and it damaged one of the blades so I bought a new set only to realise they are double sided, but the blades are very easy to change even for a amateur like me and the bonus is I now have spare blades on hand.I'm loving this machine and I would totally recommend it. If I could give more stars I would!!!

Absolutely fantastic piece of kit. Put some knotty pine though to test the cutter alignment and checked with digital calipers. It was accurate within thousandths of an inch. Brilliant. Seen reviews here about the first and last few inches being wasted. This is known as 'snipe' and is common to all thicknessers of this type. There are a number of simple ways to avoid snipe (have a look on YouTube) but I found that if you gently hold the end of the timber down onto the bed as you feed it in and it's grabbed by the roller and then support the timber as it comes out of the other end I get no snipe. The surface of the timber is beautifully smooth and would require no or minimal sandpapering before applying a finish.I am more than happy with my purchase and would buy again.

I was a little anxious? when I found it impossible to secure the adjustment handle as the screw hole had been drilled off centre. A few seconds on the pillar drill and an additional washer and every thing was fine (lost a star here). Very easy to use, simple to set up. Very good finish on softwood (I've not had a chance to use it on hardwood yet). I found this provided an flat surface with about 0.013 thinner on one side compared with the other. The blades are simple to change with no obvious facility to adjust them. I may try shimming if I need to improve this aspect. The blades have two cutting faces and can be turned to use the second edge.No issues in using this machine other than clearing up the huge amount of shavings that can be produced. ?
