Have never owned a thicknesser before so this is a real luxury item for me. It is great to be able to pass various pieces through the planer and end up with them all the same thickness so easily. The quality of the planed surface is great but don't expect it to make twisted wood flat and straight just by passing it through, you need a few other tricks to do that, which you will find on YouTube. Really solid and quite heavy, which I guess it needs to be in order to prevent the body distorting and compromising the action.Easy to adjust with the handle on top, but ease it round gently when you are getting to your required size as a quarter turn is still 0.5mm/.020".I have no regrets about choosing Makita and would buy it again if I needed to.

Works a dream - a good sturdy piece of kit although I haven't had it long and cannot comment on it long term. It is simple to use. I have tried it on oak, teak and spruce thus far and it coped with all of them really well providing an excellent finish. The one flaw is that you have to attach the dust extraction cover; it is supplied but it is not integral. Without it there are wood shavings everywhere; the thicknesser produces a lot! While, if you have space you might leave it attached, if, like me, you have limited space and restricted storage, the thicknesser folds nicely into a cuboid without the dust extraction cover and, thus, as such, I remove it every time. However,it is reasonably simple to attach and remove.

Ive been wanting to get a thickness planer for a while but got put off when I went to local hardwood dealer and he planed a couple of boards of cherry for me. I was like are they all that loud?! I did a load of research and although i liked the dewalt planer the Makita is signicately more quiter. I only make things for a hobby but this bit of kit has seriusly transformed how I work. Before I used to square and plane everything by hand using a plane. First time I used it was on a speaker build and couldnt believe how it just planed through this beech and walnut.. i just wish I brought it sooner. Highly recommend

I have been cutting planks from a variety of timbers and found hand planing time consuming and difficult to achieve good results.Although this is cited as portable it is really heavy and best set up on a bench of its own.It works well, grips the planks and feeds steadily with good finish.Chip outlet needs an 80mm hoseOverall happy with the purchase

Used this machine for the first time at the weekend and planed down 40m of rough sawn timber to smooth square sections precisely to size. The calibrations make for simple operations and it worked like a dream, only another 60m to go!Not too noisy although I of course used ear defenders.All-in-all an excellent buy and I am very pleased.

Outstanding. I've ran about a couple hundred board feet of hardwoods and some softwoods through this and have always been impressed by the lack of snipe, consistency of thickness, and smooth surface,Operation is straight forward without a bunch of complicated steps. And the noise level, or lack of it, is amazing!

Brilliant planer! I’ve used it on 9” oak and it has no problem with it. It’s not noisy which was a concern. Leaves a good finish with no snipe. Requires no adjustment from out of the box use. So glad I went for this one. Was considering the Dewalt but this one is quieter which was the deciding factor. J

Bought this to plane rosewood and mahogany sheets down to 3.5mm for guitar construction. Completely flawless results though when you get down to this thinness you must keep the plane beds clean and free from chippings or the board drags debris into the cut and causes some chattering.

I've never had other thicknessers to compare this to but I'm very impressed with how this works and the surface finish it produces on wood. I also love that all the protective packaging was folded corrugated cardboard (recyclable) rather than polystyrene.

Just got this for planing some 40mm oak boards that had cupped a bit, works perfectly and the finish is amazingly smooth considering it hasn't even been sanded yet! Feels like a solid, well made piece of equipment and I heartily recommend it.

A good investment for my small hobby workshop. It does suffer from 400mm sniping at each end of the timber unless you push the timber down to stop it lifting as it starts and finishes the pass. You get used to it.

As you can expect it's build quality is brilliant given that it's a makita product, planes each side nicley over used this a hell of allot and haven't needed to change blades yet, brilliant

Usual Makita quality and value for money with a three year warranty. It happily planed down to 3mm and produces a very even and accurate finish on soft and hardwoods.Chris Roberts

An excellent piece of kit. That gives a superb finish, I have used it on reclaimed pitchpine ,It is easy to use ,the dust hood works well when not using a dust extractor,
