I have had a Black and Decker planner which, according the receipt still in the original box, I have had for 34 years. Sadly the belt broke for it and, being so old, no-one seemed to sell the spare part.I have now followed the advice I was given many years old, "you will never regret buying the best tool that you can reasonably afford". So, although a lot more expensive the Bosch equivalent, I decided on the Makita. I have bought several Makita tools over the last couple of years and found them to be excellent quality, this plane is no exception.It is well thought out, from the size of the ejector hole (standard 50 mm), through the fine adjustment (in 0.1mm steps)

It might be me, but I think I was swayed by the Makita hype, I felt I needed one. When I came to use it I found that I was taking nothing off or producing waves on the wood surface. I went back to my trusty hand planes. If you need to plane a door down to size quickly then this the tool for you. For finer work I think it needs practice and getting to know its settings. I will use it but as I use it in a shed at the bottom of the garden I try to take care that I don't annoy my neighbours with too much noise and this is noisy so my use will be when I need to remove a lot of wood.

My Father thought me, if you are going to buy a tool get the best one you can afford. I have stuck by that and once again Makita have not disappointed.I bought this to hang some new doors and I was very impressed. After a little practice on some scrap wood, I now have three doors fitting perfectly. Whilst, yes I could have employed a carpenter to do the job, probably in half the time I took. But now I have the tool to fit all the upstairs doors and I am sure I will use it for many other projects.

Used this to plane down a replacement external door. Easy to use, accurate and robust. Feels like it will last and is well made - Makita seem to make great tools. Delivery was quick and efficient. The price was best I could find - both on line and in store. Overall - a great purchase and a good supplier.

Just purchased it. Only used it twice so far to plane bottom off two doors as had new carpets fitted. Seems like an excellent buy but would suggest using it with dust bag as otherwise makes a lot of small shavings that blow everywhere.Also plane from each end towards the centre to avoid damage to wood

Looks a sturdy tool as expected as with all Marita products. Can someone help? Obviously I am doing something wrong. Switched it on and tried on a piece of spare wood, no results. What have I missed out? Sorry for being so stupid. Still give it five stars for being Marita. Oops Makita

This is a really good little bit of kit which is always ready and willing for whenever you need it.I would've given it 5 stars but it doesn't come with a dust/chip bag, the chip exhaust gets a bit choked sometimes and resetting the blades can be a bit "trial and error".

What can I say it's a Makita and usual quality. Came with blade holder to sharpen as well. Only thing noted is calibration on depth of cut. Set it on 1mm and it takes nothing off unless set deeper but seasoned woodpeckers wouldn't use scale anyway.

I have used this for doors and building planters in the garden and its performed well. Would recomend getting a dust bag if using indoors as it makes a lot of dust. I would descibe my usage as enthusiastic diy and it copes with all I give it.

Whenever possible I try to buy quality power tools, I emphasise , try, This planer maintains the standard of its maker , Makita !!. I have three other tools by this firm, all of them first class .

Excellent quality product as you would expect from Makita!Perfect weight distribution.Used it to build a gazebo from oak, beautiful finish on every piece of wood!Would definitely recommend it!

Very good plane. Needs the dust bag that you have to order separately. Has trimmed and smoothed 7 internal doors and an oak shelf. Freehand tool with no sole-plate guides.

Great planer. Used on a couple of projects to clean up the surface of rough saw Iroko. The dust bag supplied also does a good job of collecting the shavings

Bought to ease a door that was catching on the frame, great tool and easy to use. Now just need to find other jobs to justify the purchase to the wife.

Great bit of kit really heavy duty and very well built even by Makita’s own standard.works really well and great value for money. Definitely recommend.
