The best tennis game out on any console at this day and age has finally been released! It beats all the other tennis games in terms of gameplay value and graphics but as i hate to say previous tennis titles do get some credit as mistakes are found throughout the game...Graphics are wonderful, the crowd audience is very bulky but works really well that u just like to laugh at them everytime u see them, gameplay is just the best ever, it definitly takes Virtua Tennis off the top spot but only knocks it down to number 2, online play is wonderful and u will never want to stop playing and this title will definitly turn people's oppinion around if they think tennis is a sissy sport...Overall i wouldlike to give the game a 10 out of 10 but unfortunatly i have to knock 2 marks off it due to glitches the game has after a point when u see the player cut-scene's, u can't change the amount of games that is played in career mode which is very annoying, while ur playing when the umpire reads the "Live Score" instead of saying "Love" when u have Zero points it says "Zero"!! that's very frustrating and not very realistic, Pro Tennis WTA Tour ((PTWT)) had fab looking courts played full matches and the umpire said loads of realistic stuff a game that as considered the worst ever! i cant believe i have to give PTWT credit!another thing that i found very horrible was when i play a match with "MEGHANN SHUAGHNESSY" when the results screen appears after every point it says "S. Shaughnessy"!! her first name doesn't start with an "S" i cant believe silly little mistakes where made in this game when it should have been perfect, i guess it just proves that saying of "Nothing's/Nobody's Perfect" and this game doesn't play on old TV's!!Which is very irritting.I went down to a friends house to play this game on his Xbox, and what did we find, we couldn't play in his room ((Due to having an old TV)) as the screen keeps jumping about or freezing! we had to go down stairs and play on a 32" TV instead ((Which was really fun by the way)).I must stress that before u go out and buy this game make sure u have a new modern TV so that u will be able to play this game no problemo...U will enjoy it alot when u can just switch ur tv and console on and u can play it, cos it is the most addictive Tennis game there is out there, so if ur a tennis fan or just loved Virtua Tennis or just wanna play something good then get this!TOP SPIN TENNIS for MICROSOFT XBOX, oh and get XBOX LIVE if u dont have it!!

I am a heavy gamer and a tennis player, so every time a tennis game is made i feel i have to try it. To be honest apart from Smash Court i have found them all very arcade-game like and no realism to the physics and feel to the game.Top Spin was a pleasant surprise. The graphics are not amazing but to be honest they dont need to be, how fluffy can a yellow ball be?? You start your career as a nobody, no skills, rubbish clothes etc. Your ambition is to become world number one.. After you create your custom character you start on the circuit. You have to train your character in areas you choose (serve, volley, forehand, backhand etc) and get to choose how good each part of your games gets. This ultimately affects how you play as a player with weak volleys can barely hit the ball at the net. From here you have to play through small tournaments, then majors and grand slams to gain money to buy equipment and gain sponsors and climb the rankings. There are a few pro's that you will know on the tour and they play very like the real things. Sampras for example is great serve and volleyer but from the back of the court fairly weak.Trying to climb the rankings is not always hard or easy as the draw you get in the tournaments can help or hinder. Meeting a serve and volleyer of clay is going to be easy on clay, but on the grass of london a different match all together. The main thing about this game is the movement of the players, how important timing is with shots and tactics. If you dont think and move like a player you will struggle in the matches against the top seeds. The way the players move is the best i have found on any tennis game. Don't expect to serve many ace's though, the serves can open the court well for you, but actually getting the ace's you require are few and far between.I recommend to any tennis fan but give it time to really get the feel for the game. This is not one to simply pick up and play, skill is required to get you through

I'd been looking forward to top spin ever since it's rumoured release. I'd just come back from EuroDisney and it was waiting for me on my Xbox ready to play.I like deep games where you can be hooked for ages like PSO, GTA3 and GT4/ Project Gotham. Tennis games in the past like Slam tennis are great on gameplay as long as there are friends about but the single player experience was a bit limited. Top spin is deep, you will get lost in the features.I will start with the career mode because you can use the character online and offline. You create your player, fiddle about with his appearance, left or right hand, power, tech or defence (it makes a difference to your stats), 1 or 2 handed backhand. Then you begin your career. There are three levels to your status to unlock, young gun, star and legend and what level you are at limits the tournaments you can enter. There are sponsorships which unlock different clothes and salons for your hair. When you've sooped up your character to your satisfaction then quit out and go onto multiplayer Xbox live.I've played two matches and lost both, the first time was ok because I played another person like me with their own character but in the second game I played someone who used Pete Sampras as his character and everything he hit was sweet and unstoppable. I won a few games but if you like to win at all costs then go online as pete sampras or lleyton hewitt. The way round this of course is Xsn sports but this is not up and running yet. This is a fantastic tennis game and easily the best ever but.....although deeper and better in every way than Virtua tennis it???????

Ok if you don't have Xbox live I probably wouldn't give this game 5 stars...i'd give it 4. Let me explain myself. This as good, possilby better than the Virtua Tennis. It has small arcade elements (time your hits just right to get speed/drop shots), but the what really elevates this game into a great one is the way in which the developers have managed to capture the tactical nature of tennis and as a consequence it's probably the best game of its kind I've played, and easily the best sports release on any system this year (although pro evo3 does come close!). The options are staggering in single player, you can play as world famous players or build your own character (in the long run,the far better option) and when you've completed the single player online you can play your friends on screen or online if you have X box live. X box live makes this game....doubles are especially fun, equally mad and requiring a very tactical mind. Not wishing to gloat but we were for a while in the top 30 of the world, but we only got there through a LOT of play and a lot of thinking. The online aspect does have some problems - YOU WILL be played off the court in single player unless you have a strong built-up player, and in this way the pick up and play aspect in online as perhaps not so correct. the best way to play this game is to spend a little time in single player and once you feel confident go get 'em!All in all this is a great game that I would reccomend to tennis lovers and non tennis lovers alike.

This is easily the best sports sim available on any console. And yes that includes you Pro Evo soccer. The reason being that the control of the players is awesome and the range of shots available is true to life. It is easy to pick up and play but there is enough depth for those who like to truly master a game. The advantage over soccer games is that it can only ever really be your fault when you lose a point, no AI or computer team mates to blame. The single player mode offers you a range of skills to learn, tournaments to win and sponsorship deals to earn as you progress towards the No1 status. The create a character mode is comprehensive and easy to use.you can recreate a fantasy tennis hottie to knock Anna K into a cocked hat or create a player in your own image (without the burger belly). My only critiscism would be that the minor pro and pro-am tournaments are far too easy but that may be because of my over-indulgence in Super Tennis on the SNES as a youth. I mention this game because it was the finest example of a tennis game up until now. Top Spin seems to have taken many of it cues from this classic title and added a layer of graphical sheen that Virtua Tennis could only dream of. For those of you that have only played Virtua Tennis this game will make you realise what a limited game it really was.I cannot recommend this game highly enough. It sits right up there with Halo & Project Gotham as the must haves on Xbox for players of any taste.

Great graphics but more importantly decent gameplay..Top Spin carries on where Virtua Tennis left off, with each button being assigned a different stroke there's no messing around with the analog stick trying to pull off difficult spin shots.Risk shots where the player will pull off an passing shot or very powerful stroke are via the R button controlled by a fast moving meter so not easy to do as timing is crucial. There's also an In The Zone (ITZ) meter that fills depending on how well you are playing, when at full capacity you play at your best and pull off the crucial shots when they count!!This game is XBox Live enabled which makes all the difference!!!I assume there will be some nice downloadable content soon maybe more challenges, courts or players..who knows! The create a player option is only second to Tiger woods 2004 you can create almost any characteristic and put your creation through their paces.Although the Carreer mode challenges aren't anywhere near as good as Virtua...I suppose that can be addressed in the next incarnation!!Only a couple of niggles that I've found so far... no mixed gender matches and the game could do with a couple more A list players (suppose this is to do with licensing). This is a great game... credit where credit is due!

There's little to complain about with this game:beautiful and intuitive gameplay, impressive graphics and what seems to be an involving and lengthy career mode. Prior to receiving the game I did have doubts that it wouldn't compare favourably with 'Virtua Tennis 1&2' on the Dreamcast, but I needn't have worried - this is a superior product in nearly every important repect. While not having played 'Live' yet (I want to get my own personalised player 'fully loaded' first!) I'm chomping at the bit to get stuck in! Meanwhile I have been more than content on working on improving my character stats and seeing what accessories I can buy (which is a neat and interesting diversion).Regardless of of its X-Box Live compatability (though on the whole great according to other reviewers) this is one of those games that just cries out to be played against your mates - it's ideal pre and post-pub material (or any time really as the phrase 'pick up and play' could have been invented for this game). This ease of use however belies the nuances and subtlety of the control system which, with practice, proves to be a deeply rewarding and satisfying experience.Just don't be surprised when the swearing starts and the joypads start flyng!

Great game. My first tennis game since "Match point" on the Spectrum.Even if you have never played a Tennis game, I would recomend you try Top Spin. If you like building a character up in skills, and enjoy stratagy games this has both dressed up in tennis clothing.I found that to start with I couldn't win a single point. As soon as I realised that my guy will go for the ball himself, while I aim and choose the type of swing. Then I suddenly worked out how to play. The single player game builds your character up, Playing in tennis matches all over the world. Doing training with coaches, buying clothing and getting new haircuts. Then you can take this character Online with Xbox live.Taking your single player character you developed, onto xbox live is good fun. The matches I playes were very close run things. The last one came down to the last point. Huge adrenaline rush, with such a close game.I didnt notice any lag. As your guy sort of auto targets the ball, even if it does lag it doesnt seem to effect what turns out to be a very compelling stratagy game.More than just a Tennis game.

I bought this game a few weeks ago and have been completly hooked on it. The graphics and game play are brilliant to any other sports game i have played on the xBox, apart from Tiger Woods. The mulitplayer and career modes are amazing and xBox live isjust another story. The game really comes to life when you start playing on xBox live because you can compete with friends or people over the other side of the world. I would definatly recommend it to anyone. My girlfriend hates tennis with a passion and as soon as she picked up the pad she was hooked and that has to say something. The players are easy to use and developing skills takes time but you can soon become a master at tatical shots to crush your apponent. The only reason it did'nt get 5 stars is that it has no mixed doubles and there is not a great choice of players but im sure these will be addressed in the next installment. Apart from that i would recommend buying it to anyone who just loves playing great xBox games.

I was looking for a game with some more depth than the usual shoot through to the end of the level, and have found it with knobs on. Top Spin is superb - as already mentioned, I initially found it difficult to win a single point, but once mastered, (which doesnt take long) the addiction sets in. Had loads of fun creating a player that looked as much like me as possible (poor guy!) and then took him out into the world, starting in small tournaments, gaining sponsorship, and found myself having some very late nights as this is so difficult to put down. You are able to go for cheeky drop shots, dive for hard to reach shots, smash, lob, topspin, cut shots, the list goes on.I don't have live access yet,but this game is already the best I own - the graphics, reactions, shot variety, thrill factor, playability all make this a great game - go on, get it - you wont be disappointed.....

This xbox game is a must have for any sports gamer, it contains realistic tennis playing and movements. You can create a player and travel around the world defeating different players and tournaments on all continents across the globe. You can even improve your character by training him with the coaches in all countries and even get a company to sponser you. Or you could take a real life character and create your own tournament for them to compete in.Good PointsThe graphics are awesome (remember this was out in 2003)Realistic movementsDifferent game modes, including doubles matchesLots of mapsBad PointsEnemy players are sometimes very hardControls take time to masterCan't wait to play thesequels and the other games in the XSN Sports series.

It is clear that a significant amount of work has been put into this title in order to retain all the best features of Virtua Tennis. This means that the control method is simple and it is very easy to pick up, enabling great games of tennis against your friends with the minimum of training or practice. But the very best thing that sets Top Spin apart from what has been before is the online gaming. Playing against a remote opponent is enormous fun, and there is nothing more satisfying than chalking up a win and moving up the world rankings. Wouldn't it be amazing to say that you are the world's number one Top Spin player....?

This game stands up well against newer tennis games. While the graphics are obviously no where near today's standards, the gameplay is essentially the same as Top Spin 2 and the career mode is just as good. This game is also more challenging, as I still find it difficult to win Wimbledon, whereas in Top Spin 2 I hardly ever drop a set. However, seeing as it is actually more expensive on Amazon than Top Spin 2, it's probably not worth it unless your only console is a PS2. It was and is a great game, but the price is just too high to justify buying it 5 years after its release.

14.3.2004

A realy fun game to play multiplayer, but playing on your own can get a little boring.Graphics are what you would expect - Fantastic! Its like watching a real game of tennis but better, because you are in control.Easy to get the hang of, creating a player isnt as good as I hoped. Its no Tiger woods 2004 character creater which it fantatic, its alot more basic with not much to choose from to let your imagination run wild. However this is a great tennis game that shouldnt be overlooked by any xbox sports gamer.Play a 4 player game with friend for the most fun. 4 out of 5

I play alot of tennis, and this game brings the best out of it.With some of the world's biggest stars, including; Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova, Richard Gasquet, Andy Roddick, Tim Henman (kinda!), and James Blake. With most of the real tennis shots; backhand, forehand, serve, volley and smash, and ways to play the shots; top spin, slice, flat and lob.I gave this game full marks, because the graphics are brilliant, the gameplay is brilliant, and also, it supplies a career version, unlike most other tennis games.
