Firstly, I would like to commend Codemasters for listening to their customers after the disappointments of the previous TOCA incarnation. I had written a review on Amazon and also made my views known on Codemaster's own forum. My observations seemed to have echoed bt many other reviewers.The improvements to TOCA Race Driver 2 are extensive and hark back to the days when TOCA Touring Cars 2 was the best saloon car racing simulator on the market.I'm pleased to say that Ryan McKane is no longer with us. The storyline is now far better with no mention of the driver's name and characters talking directly to camera, as though to you. A very nice innovation that helps to draw the gamer into the narrative,which doesn't have that clichèd "Driven by the death of his father..." storyline. This time, in career mode you are merely trying to win races against other hopefuls to get the better drives whilst a film crew is manipulating you and other drivers to heighten tensions on the track. It doesn't really make much difference, if any to the racing, but it's well executed and doesn't take anything away from the gaming experience as in the previous game.The graphics are vastly improved (which is not something I normally associate with Codemasters) with almost photo-realistic tracks and cars. There don't seem to be any pop-ups on the horizon and frame rate never lags even with 20+ cars on the circuits.The handling feels so much better, with improved analogue control. You can't just yank on the anchors or jamb down the accelerator, especially in wet conditions. You have to feed in the power and braking needs to be built, unless you like spinning and locking up...There are some great tracks on this version: Leguna Seca, Surfer's Paradise, Road America, Donnington Park (Indy and Long) and many more. All have been improved.There is more car choice with: V8 Supercars, Champ Cars (CART), a welcome return by Formula Ford (enjoyed in TOCA Touring Cars 2), GT's, Convertibles, Classics, Hotrods, Trucks, Rally, Paris Dakar style Landrovers for rally sport. The list goes on!In career mode you have no option about car settings. This is reserved for simulation mode, where you can create your own championships (as in the previous game). I didn't find this a problem and makes the racing a little harder than Race Driver 1, which was far too easy. The structure has been extended for the PS2 over the Game Box version.As usual with Codemaster's games you have the ability to completely customise your controller, which is a very important feature for me.All in all, TOCA Race Driver 2 is a huge improvement by Codemasters over its forerunner in almost every aspect. If you've been having doubts after the disappointment of the previous game, rest assured that this will make up for it.A worthy successor and maybe competition to Gran Turismo games - at least for those who like to race on known tracks around the world with established teams.Graphics: 4/5Sound: 4/5Gameplay: 4/5Longevity: 5/5Thanks for reading this review. What Gran Turismo does for Cars, Toca does for Race Tracks. It features dozens of the worlds best tracks from Brands Hatch to Laguna Seca to the mighty Bathurst in Australia. If GT is a game for Car fans, Toca is a game for Racing fans.The twenty car pack racing puts GT to shame, the same can be said for the excellent damage model, just today I flipped an Aston Martin DB9 & utterly wreaked the Body work.The only problem I have is with the slightly unbalanced story mode; in most races you are set a target rival to beat, but they always start at the front of the grid & you'll be lucky to start above 8th. To be honest this is a relatively minor flaw in an otherwise Phenominal game.If Toca featured the Nordshlieffe,I wouldn't even be considering buying GT4. And thats saying something

This game has absolutley everything u could ever want from a driving game from supertrucks, to ice racing in an Aston Martin. The games has moved on from the days when it was just touring cars and nothing else. You know take on the role of racing driver who competes in many different racing events across the world to become nthe number one racer. You will gain many friends and enemies during your time as a racing and be prepared for a few suprises on the way. This game is defintley worth a buy despite having already been available on PC and XBOX for six months. As Gran Turismo isn't going to be out till next year this is the one and only racing game you need until the release of Gran Turismo4.

Online with 7 other players is an absolute blast!The comms are great. It's easy to find your friendsonline thanks to a freinds list. Creating & findingservers are a breeze.If you find the offline game too easy, then go onlineand show us what you can do!Then show the rest of the world what you can do. That'sright, take on U.S., Australian & European gamers and flythe flag for the U.K. !P.s (Use the right analogue stick for throttle/brake, it'seasier to feed in the power)

After playing a demo of this game, I just had to get out and get the game itself, and I was not disappointed..This game is fantastic, the wide varity of vehicles that you can drive and the many different circuits from around the world that you can race on is just fantastic.Nowing that Gran Turismo 4 had been delayed until Feb/March 2005, I needed a racing fix and this game is a gem, I would say on par with the GT series for realistic driving and circuits etc.

what a game, just when you thought toca race driver 1 was good, codies go on and bring out this corker of a game.with its fantastic graphics and endless play-ability you will certainly say that this is one of the finest racing games ever.

this game is the best racing game that i have ever played with brilliant graphics and an adrenalin rush around each corner of every track. i strongly advise that anyone into racing games to buy this one as will be mony well spent

this game is brilliant, lots of different types of cars to race and the steering is great! i am currently in a career mode and it is wicked! WOULD RECCOMEND FOR PPL WHO LIKE DRIVING GAMES, A DEFINATE TO BUY. WORTH EVERY PENNY.
