I have used one of these for over a year and I am largely happy with it. Battery life is good, it charges up fairly quickly from USB socket, sound quality is good (I bought my another set of earphones, not too expensively, and I am happy with the sound). I use the device on my daily commute and when I go for walks or exercise. In a very noisy environment, such as walking beside a busy traffic thoroughfare, the sound of the vehicles obliterates that of the music or other sound file, but this is probably for the best. In quiet to medium environemnts sound quality is good. I have a few minor issues but these haven't spoilt my enjoyment too much. Firstly, there is very annoying volume inhibitor. Many a time I will be listening to a favourite piece of music that reaches a loud crescendo, and the device will interrupt with a hideous beeping and an insytruction to reduce volume. This is nanny state-ism at it's worse. I understand that this feature was imposed by an EU directive, well if so I'm glad we left them. Perhaps now we can choose volume levels for ourselves. Goodness knows what a person whose hearing is impaired does, obviously their needs are not considered. Secondly, and this is a bit unusual but I am a customer and these are my needs - I like to have a true random feature. I prefer to load my MP3 player with at least 222 (or any multiple thereof) songs, pieces of music or spoken word files selected for their archetypal qualities. I then like the device to 'shuffle the deck', and I enjoy whatever combinations of music/sound is sequenced. I like to think of this as a kind of divination. Imagine my disapointment when I realised that the 'random' function plays songs in the same order every time, unless the contents are changed. There are some songs that it never plays in random mode. Yes you can go into the menu and select these songs, but it's not suitable for my intended purpose, and having shelled out forty quid for one of these things, I don't intend to buy another one for some time. Apart from this, I'm a happy customer, and I especially like the compact size and simple design, without unnecessary encumberances like a large screen.

Having used the Sony NWZ-B162 for over 5years I lost it one day. I naturally replaced it with the NWZ-B183.An honest review - you are buying a USB stick with a basic mp3 playing program built in. This is not a high end ipod or Sony Walkman. This is designed (and very well might I add) for those that want a player that is small, cheap and it IS tiny. I mainly use this for the gym:1. To protect my phone from breaking2. Its tiny and fit for purpose3. To keep my phone in my locker4. Quick drag and drop of songs (literally - it's just a USB stick!...no iTunes -yay!)The sound is acceptable, in fact better than some high end mp3 players out there...with the right settings.I use the "custom" setting previously on my last player and avoided the "bass" function. This I found perfect....however optimal setting on this newer model is actually simply with the "bass" function on. Anything else and the volume is drastically reduced. Try it!Either way, not sure what people are expecting from this device but for me it is perfect!...especially for the gym. I'm a dj and I'm always listening back my sets, it's ideal for this also. Buy some decent in-ear noise cancelling buds and you won't fault it.Cons: old one froze now and again...this is normal. Just pop a paper clip into reset hole and you're good to go. Remember this thing takes a battering and can take it....but every now and again it will ask for a breather (a reset). Please note: I have had no issue with this one resetting...yet!!..but it's normal so no need to send back.Overall perfect for purpose - if you want a high end device to plug into your expensive audio equipment or your overpriced dre beats...use your ipod...simple.All in all 10-10 from me - an experienced user.

I've owned mine for four months now possibly longer it's very good but not without its flaws.First off putting music on this device is very easy and you don't need to worry about having the correct lead or finding one which is convenient, for someone who travels a lot. I do recommend buying better headphone it does make a big difference in quality, the only real reason for needing the bass boost function is to compensate for the terrible headphones. I don't like they way the cap fits on its not a very tight fit and comes off regularly should be connected by a piece of rubber or something. I have used this while running which is fine not too heavy sound is fine with my new headphones (seinnhauser)but the Sony ones were just not loud enough, one very cool function is when I plug this into my car stereo system its gives much better sound than the cd's and the I phone I used to plug into it. Battery life is awesome and when it does get flat it charges in no time. Like I said at the start its a great device but it does have its flaws not so good sound and bad cap for the USB connection let down an otherwise very good MP3 player.

This is a very good mp3 player, very easy to use, just plug it in like a usb pen and it'll automatically charge the battery. Copying music can be done simply by pasting it like any other file which is sorted for you to scroll through and select when it's turned on. I've personally bought several of these when I've lost previous ones, but I've never had any of them break. The only reason it's not got a 5star is 1/2 design issues. One being that the back light isn't amazing so if it's sunny it's a bit harder to use then e.g. a phone/better lit mp3's. The only other problem is that there's no battery option, so if you forget to charge it you can't use it.Admittedly this is the case for most mp3's now but I have had 1/2 in the past which despite being much harder to use did give the choice of using some AAA's if you found it ran out, (normally at the worst time).

I've been buying these Sony Walkman MP3's for years now.Always loved how compact the device is, yet with a great quality of sound. I preferred the older design with the round control dial and the button that let you skim through the music, along with the LED's that flashed in time with the music. Nostalgia ! But, latest ones are ok and work just as well. It's easy to sync your music library across to it. The Sony syncs the music files in alphabetical order and that's how it re-plays them. However if you go into the music settings on the device you can set it to play on shuffle. This sets the tracks to play at random. The Walkman doesn't take very long to charge up via the USB on your lap top,Hi Fi or a USB charger plug. It's a good player that lasted years .I think Sony could offer up more choice of colours though !

I wanted something for work that I could play music on and not run down my phone battery. Stupidly bought a cheap player that was really nasty and poor quality before getting this.Sound quality is great, the supplied ear buds are basic but good, battery life is several hours and recharges quickly by USB.The device plugs into my laptop and syncs perfectly. I use Media Monkey for music and have set up a 4Gb auto playlist based on track rating so can easily change the tracks of needed. A very minor downside is 8Gb would have been better, but there's more than enough space to get lots of tracks in.Sure it's a bit more expensive than some but mp3 players seem to be a good example of but cheap, buy twice. Wish I'd gone for this one in the first place.

It clearly works with all versions of Windows (I used on Windows 10). Sound quality is amazing as always, same if not better than the older model (I had NWZ-B172). It looks very good; very sleek and simple. Buttons are hard enough not to be pressed accidentally, but soft enough to feel its feedback. It is a bit pricier considering the fact that the NWZ-B172 records sound; this model doesn't.If you want a cheaper player, don't buy one. I do have a £15 mp3 player (SWEES Player) which has 16GB storage and more software tools but the sound quality is horrible. Now it just sits there doing nothing. Sony Walkman is much better than what SanDisk or other cheap mp3 players can offer. If you are on a tight budget, save up to get the Walkman.

I had one of these since 2008 and it lasted many years until I passed it to my younger brother and I think he still have it.Bought this in April 2020 for my dayly jogging as its small and lightweight.Bright blue colour really pops.Sound quality is very good and extra bass option is fun. Overall build quality is excellent and is dead easy to control even into your pocket. Zero learning curve as its so simple and that's why is so great.Never used the provided Sony earphones.I expected longer battery life but can't complain there as it's so small. Easy to charge and transfer files/music.Shame really there's no bigger capacity as 4 GB is filled very quickly. Please,Sony keep the design bet expand the capacity.

Have had this for a week now sounds great year phones fit comfortably not the loudest but to be fair i do have hearing problems so cant say to much about the volume might be blasting for others. Easy to use not bulky whatsoever does not have a radio which is a bit of a let down but not the end of the world. The only issue i was a bit annoyed at is when i purchased the item there was a £4.00 postage charge which i thought was a bit excessive then through a little investigation i found i could have payed £1.00 more and had it delivered the next day instead of waiting 4 days for it to arrive if your in a rush to buy this item pay the extra £1.00 and save yourselves a lot of waiting.

Bought this to listen to my music while doing my 6 mile walk every day. I have a lot. of cds I ripped to my computer then dragged and dropped on to the mp3 player.. it was so easy (idiot proof) it had to be for me. Now I can listen to my favourite music. The volume is loud enough to hear on a busy road. The only fault that I found so far is the display is small for me (bad eyesight). I put it on all songs and it plays in alphabetical order of songs which is ideal for me but does anyone know how to take of silence on the songs I accidentally put on and now can't get off

Bought this MP3 player after having a small Sony Walk man before, which died after a couple of years. This Sony Walkman has exceeded my expectations. It is nice and small, good quality materials. The sound quality is fab, use your own speakers as the ones provided are rubbish. You can play the music in folders which is handy. Bass boost on the player is very good. Its a simple product, and would recommend if you only need a simple player. Shame the size is not bigger though as 4GB is quite small. Battery life is decent too.I am very happy with my purchase.

Bought this to replace an older identical player from Phillips as it kept freezing when permanently fitted to the USB in my car.Since I have replaced it I have had no such problems with the Sony. It doesnt matter if I dont drive the car for a few days as soon as the car is started it clicks into action.I have currently about 250 songs on the player but it can take I beleive up to approx 900 songs so more than enough for my use. Vey pleased and very nice product at the price what more do you want its Sony after all.

Got this for my mum who has eyesight problems so needs something simple to operate so she can listen to audiobooks. Showed her the basics of how to use it and she has taken to it straight away, she is really pleased with it. If I want to replace my own MP3 player I would certainly choose one of these. One slight negative comment, it would be useful if the end cap was somehow attached to the body when you remove it to charge the player, as it is it's easy to mislay/lose it.

18.2.2020

Bought this Sony Walkman MP3 Player primarily for the gym. Perfect size, easy to use and for the money more than acceptable sound reproduction in tandem with modestly priced headphones. Sure this Walkman is inferior to my Walkman NW-A45 and you would expect it to be, nor is there any comparison to fidelity of sound with my Sony NW-ZX2, nevertheless, this is a competent and cheap MP3 music player and for that reason alone I would be happy to recommend this device.

The design is very good, and it almost does everything it says on the box. The one problem I found was that the instructions were difficult to find and interpret, and navigation around the various 'levels' is somewhat complicated for a 'mature' person for whom this was something completely new. The display is also miniscule, but that is hardly surprising for what it does! Especially for a 'mature' person who probably needs new glasses . . .
