FANTASTIC MONOPOD - TOP QUALITY WITH SPARE PARTS INCLUDED !No doubt many of you reading this will be doing your own online research - as I did, and the sensible thing to do these days. This is the first monopod that I have owned and was purchased to support a heavy zoom lens with DSLR for sports and wildlife photography, where it simply isn't practical, either space or time wise, to use a conventional tripod.I 'Googled' many 'reviews' and eventually settled on this 'Sirui P-204SR Monopod' as my first choice. These days, I tend to prefer spending a little more, with quality and longeivity in mind. I had this product initially in my 'wishlist' and when the price suddenly dropped 34% (as can happen out of the blue on amazon)... I pounced, and I wasn't disappointed. The carry case alone is beautifully made and padded, with an additional shoulder strap included. Also included is a spare 'rubber foot', an additional 'stainless steel spike' to swap with the rubber foot, a spare mounting platform with spare reversible 3/8" and 1/4" mounting screw ... and a set of 3 allen keys.I love the rotating and locking function of the panning collar and the tilt and vertical locking control and locking the legs into place so far has proven a breeze. The very study tripod feet can be either up or down (... going from monopod function to photo & video function) or alternatively, the tripod feet section can be detached and used as a low 'table-top' tripod. (Now, the tripod feet are wide and sturdy enough, provided you have your balance sorted, to totally support a heavy lense and camera, totally hands free - though I did not extend the last section, and this NOT recommended when out in the field using it !- and if one does (like I note some monopod reviewers do?) one does so at their own risk! - I only mention this here, to make the point of how stable the feet are.Weighing in a 1.5 kg/3.3 lbs, this monopod has a good 'weight to it', but this only really adds to the overall stability I feel.As I look after all my equipment, I expect to get many years of great use out of it ... and btw, this monopod comes with a 6 year warranty, so it is worth putting your purchase proof/documentation away in a safe place, in the highly unlikely event, that you will need to make a claim.I hope this review has been useful? ... and as always, I would highly recommend always getting 'the best one can afford', or if one can wait, save abit longer and invest in quality, you won't be disappointed !

Let's be clear. This is a fantastic monopod, period.I read the negative reviews but still went ahead and bought one. It is a thoroughly well made product. There is no assembly to be done at all. Blue collars activate different functions (Pan, tilt and separation) to provide the user all the versatility you could possibly need in a monopod. The three large legs at the bottom give superb stability and aid the quality feel of the unit. The blue collar in the middle can be use to separate the feet from the monopod so they can be attached to the camera for tabletop use.The unit extends to 161cm off the floor but when you add the camera and an accessory head unit you can see the overall height managed by the monopod is ample for most photogs over six foot tall.Negatives? It's heavy.Approximately 3.5 pounds. And when collapsed with the three legs attached (these can be detached for travel if need be) the monopod is 68cm long without a head. But, I wanted stability and a monopod so the weight and size attracted me. If size and weight are main concerns, this monopod may cause you some issues. So, in summary, this is a heavy, rugged, long, stable, simple to use monopod. Matched against the similarly priced Manfrotto (another brilliant monopod) this Sirui is simply better.

Brilliantly versatile and very well made piece of kit. All it's functions are well thought out and very sturdy, there's not a hint of sloppiness in any of the joints once locked in place. It's a great compromise if you need a stable platform without the bulk of a tripod but just be aware that it's not a replacement for a one. Even at it's shortest when free standing there's still a reasonable amount of sway with a heavy DSLR on top plus it's not really any lighter than a carbon travel tripod.
