Very nice can. Some features I didn't see in the description, the underside of the lid is lined with a plastic insert that makes it flush and allows for easy cleaning. The lid also has a blue light on the front edge that turns on when the motion sensor is activated then turns off letting you know it is going to close unless you activate the motion sensor again. The motion sensor is activated from both the top and the side. The bottom interior is concave plastic with air vents around the perimeter, the concave area will collect liquids if for some reason a bag leaks, and the vents break the suction to allow for easy removal of a full trash liner. This can is sturdy, and attractive with some well thought out design. Here's my list where I see room for improvement. It cannot be set against the wall, the lid hits the wall when it opens. It needs to be around 1/2" away to avoid damaging the lid or wall with continued use. My current resolution was to stack self adhesive felt pads to the back of the can near the top, until I find a more cosmetic resolution. When opening the ring and lid to place a new liner the can becomes too heavy and will want to tip over on its back. My resolution, I filled a 1 quart Ziploc freezer bag with sand and placed it the the bottom, this counterbalanced the weight of the ring and lid enough to not tip over while placing a new liner in.The onboard liner compartment is great until you or your husband has hand compacted the trash down which in turn pushes the liner and it's contents into the dispenser opening for the liners. When I went to remove the full liner it became a bit challenging as it was caught in the liner dispenser opening. My resolution, I cut a piece of old flexible polypropylene cutting mat and affixed it with duct tape to make a flap covering the liner dispenser hole, while allowing me to flip the flap up to retrieve a new liner. It doesn't have portability, no handles, indents, cutouts to allow you to grab and drag the can around, although the plastic feet slide pretty well over the floor. I looked to see if simplehuman offered casters in lieu of feet and they don't. My resolution, I traced the bottom of the can on a piece of wood and cut it a bit larger than the can, painted the wood white to match my can, affixed casters to the wood, slid out the plastic feet it came with, and set the can on top, voila portability with just a push of one finger.I have 2 simplehuman cans of different variety both, I would purchase again, they make quality products backed by warranties.I also have a kitchen full of their slide out cabinet organizers, which are great.

This bin has been used for about 3 years in between two homes. I can honestly say this is the most expensive bin I've ever purchased, and I don't regret it! Yes, it's expensive, but at the same time it is much more reliable than previous ones. Therefore I think it is worth it.I've had other bins that cost half as much, but they always end up broken. This one is going strong for years, which already made up the cost (had I not buy the others). Usually it is the sensor or the door motor that gets jammed and stops working, rendering it useless for its purpose. The batteries last very long, which means it is not literally 'eating' 4xD batteries every 3 months (and these are not cheap),like some others I've had.In conclusion, it has been working great all this time. Sometimes the sensor can get jammed if you leave your hand in there while it closes, but it recovers quickly. It is smart. We've never had a malfunction.Wipe it with spray and a cloth once in a while, and it is as good as new.The battery compartment is in a convenient location, just behind on top, holding 4xAA batteries. Careful that some bins have the batteries on the door itself, which I found it is not ideal./// Pros \\\* Automatic door* Reliable sensor* Batteries last a long time, from the efficient motor* Readily available bags to purchase with the exact size* Easy to clean* Location of the battery compartment* Aluminium construction/// Cons \\\* Price* Big* Works best with simplehuman bags (but they are perfect to be fair)

A bin is a bin is a bin, right? Wrong.Of course, being a manufacturer of premium household goods, you expect top quality from Simplehuman, and they deliver. Almost every aspect of this bin has been thoughtfully considered. The battery compartment is on the rear of the bin where it won’t get gunky, there is bag storage so you can quickly and easily replace the liner while the lid is up, the opening is large enough that you can scrape plates or what have you into the bin without dropping stuff all over the floor (which is a “duh” design choice but so many manufacturers get it wrong), and the liner sizing is generous enough that I’m not emptying it every 3 days like on my old Brabantia bin.So what do I mean when I say “almost” every aspect has been considered? The sensor. Sometimes I walk near the bin and it opens, other times I am waving frantically over the top and across the front and it will finally register. I’m not sure *how* you rectify and iterate on this for future bins, but it definitely needs a little tweaking. With that said though, don’t let this little niggle put you off, it still works regardless. Price aside, it is a premium bin and you get what you pay for. If you’re a bit of a germaphobe like me, this bin will save your life (I mean, not really, but it’s a nice thing to have.)

This was not our first simplehuman trash can, but it was our first purchase directly from this site. The trash can is beautiful and exactly as described. We purchased it to replace our older simplehuman step can that finally broke after 10 yrs. I was hesitant to go with the sensor/no touch can just because it is one more thing to break. I loved the idea of potentially no dirty fingerprints all over the can so I gave this one a try. The delivery was prompt and the can looked beautiful in our kitchen. The can came with batteries and a sample liner pack and everything worked great. Where the 1 star falls off...the can stopped working the next day. I read the little book and it said if we see a red light the battery is low.I looked over and red light it was! For the price of this can you'd think that this company could afford to include 4 batteries that aren't dead!?! It is just bad form. I 'd rather you not include them at all than slap me in the face by sending dead batteries. Cheap kiddie toys come with batteries that last longer than the 12 hrs my straight from the box/manufacturer batteries lasted. It just wasn't a good first impression.

the way the bag folds over the top edge means the inside of the bin will never see waste so you will only be cleaning the outside. when you close the lid this then clamps (in a way) the bag in place. Your asked to rate a Lock feature and i gave it one star, it doesn't have a lock feature !The bags a expensive but makes using the bin a better experience, we have all sampled lots of bags to save money but never fit well. these go in quickly and pull out perfectly, they are strong and you pull the strings and you have a closed bag to drop in the wheely bin.We had another make 40l bin and this is a 45l but we can fit more in this by quite a way, probably a couple of days more. This is because it is wider and things go in well, the other bin was a touch taller but much narrower and as a result thing ended up being jammed in which in turn makes it harder to pull the bag out. ( and then cheap bags split)The sensor works well and it wasn't the reason we bought it, it was the size. however we are not sure how long it will be before the dogs figure it out.....they are watching carefully at the moment.

This is my second sensor can from Simplehuman. It is a great improvement from the 45 liter, battery-operated only sensor can which I still use. It is much quieter and very easy to clean since it is all stainless steel. It works great with the power adapter. I have not tried using it with the batteries. The power adapter would be a good option for all of their sensor cans since the batteries wore out pretty quickly on my first one. I only rated it with 4 stars since I noted a couple of quirks. One being that the lid has closed while wiping food off a plate into the sensor can. It would be nice for the lid to stay open when the sensor is blocked, not just when it detects motion. The second quirk happens when the plug is unplugged from the sensor can and then plugged back in. The sensor did not work after the plug was put back in. I just unplugged the power adapter from the outlet, then plugged it back in and the sensor worked fine. Other than those two exceptions this is a great product!

I bought this on a whim for our new house. We previously had one with the foot pedal that opened it up. I like this one way more. The first one we ordered was faulty and did absolutely nothing once out the box but good ole amazon had a replacement to me the next day and it works perfectly. The only gripe we have is how easily it tips over when it’s empty ie. When you need to change the bag. Both my husband and I have both had it topple right over with almost no provocation while we were changing the bag. Other than that it has a handy spot in the back that keep the pack of replacement bags which I think is awesome. No more hunting around. Just take out the full bag and immediately replace. It’s also moderately sensitive which means you aren’t waiting a million years for it to open and it stays open until you are done. All In all a purchase I am well satisfied with and can recommend to anyone else thinking of getting it. It’s pricey but built to last and convenient.

I had used a competitor's product for years. It frequently broke and did not always work. After the second one bit the dust, I decided to try this one from Simplehuman. I had very good luck with the other products I bought from them. Their customer service is outstanding. You can talk to a live person who will give you instant results. This trash can is a marvel. It works as advertised. The replacement bags fit into a compartment in the rear of the can. This is very convenient as they are handy and easy to replace. Buying these replacement bags in quantity is a bargain compared to a fitting bag size of common brands bought in stores. The sensor works very well and does exactly what it is meant to do.I also like the quiet operation. I also bought the power adapter. Now I don't have to worry about battery replacement. I can highly recommend this good looking product, along with anything else this company has in store. I definitely give it a 5 star rating.

I purchased and have been using the new 45L semi-round sensor can for just over one month now. It is truly a beautiful addition to my home. I like that the opening is large and that the lid raises quickly. The motor is so quiet it would not wake even the lightest of sleepers - very impressive. I also like that when the plastic liner is installed, it is not visible from the outside at all. A very clean look that matches my stainless steel appliances. Although it can operate on just 4 AA batteries (included - nice touch), I purchased the AC adapter. The can sits nicely at one end of my kitchen island where I do food prep, plugged into one of the outlets on the island, and that makes is so easy to drop in waste without touching the can or having to step on a pedal. Perfect for when my hands are messy. No worries about cross contamination. I definitely recommend the sensor series of cans to family and friends.

I'm in love with my bin. I previously owned a 'nine star's automatic sensor bin, which was difficult to empty because it was huge and it got very grubby as it would close mid way through me scraping food/ stuff into it. Stupidly the battery compartment was on the inside of the front of the lid of the bin where all the nasty grime would collect. This bin however is perfect. It's a lovely size so it's not too cumbersome to empty. The lid stays open as long as it senses there is something there, the battery compartment is in a sensible place, but best of all is the little refil slot to hold the bags! You empty it and then just pull a new bag from the back. It's genius.Absolutely worth the money especially when you think how long you're going to keep your kitchen bin.

I can’t tell you how much I love this can and the companies customer service was bomb! First, who doesn’t hate garbage? The lid is air tight so it doesn’t smell, I waive my hand and poof! No more stepping on that step that grosses me out! Such a sleek design, small enough to fit in corner while big enough to hold trash. Our first one we got FOUR years ago and it stopped working so I was bummed out but felt it was a pretty good run and that we got our money’s worth. I decided to reach out to customer service with our concern and they gave us a generous credit towards repurchasing anothe one! They stand by their product and communication was effective and fast! I can’t say enough good things.Stop sleeping and get yourself one!

I bought this product after reading reviews of “dog proof trash cans.” We just adopted a young dog and he learned how to get into and tip over the trash can we had very quickly. I’m actually shocked and not sure why this trash can works but he hasn’t gotten into it or tipped this one over since we got it. Even though his nose comes right up to the sensor and it often opens up for him, he can’t or doesn’t get in it. It’s also sturdy and doesn’t easily tip over. Aside from that, it’s a nice looking can which is important because I don’t have a space in my kitchen to hide the can well. And it works flawlessly! Very happy with the purchase.

All of my friends are jealous of my garbage can now. Who would have thought I'd live in an era where the quality of your garbage can is something to hold over your friends? It's slick and responsive. My only complaint is that there isn't a setting to have it open only partway. It always opens to its full height, so you need to account for that if you're going to put it in a cupboard or something. But why would you do that? It needs to be front and centre so that your friends jealousy can be easily read on their faces when they see it!Do not place it in a high traffic zone. It will constantly be opening for anyone just passing by.

I tried this cab because it was the closest representation in terms of overall size to what I had since I first bought the house. Literally the only reason I did not keep it was because I also tried the other models that had voice control and was sold. This can works great, but the voice control cans are so much better, especially since you can plug those models in to power them without having to change batteries. This model is battery operated, but it does fit better in tighter spaces, so it will work especially for the situations where a power outlet is not available.

This is a super trash can. It holds a huge amount of trash & I only have to empty it about twice a week and we’re a family of four. The bags fit perfectly so it’s not unsightly. Yes it can open sometimes when you walk close to it and the dog has leaned this but as it closes quite quickly so it’s not a problem . Its great that you can also get it to stay open if you need to . We bought the white one and it’s so easy to keep clean and its shape means that it fits snug against the cabinets in our kitchen I’ll be purchasing more products from here
