Like one of the other reviewers I’ve been coveting a Brabantia (or similar) for a few years, but I have never been able to justify the cost. To make things worse my wife hates bins and everything to do with them and thus we’ve been using an awful little plastic thing for as long as we’ve lived together. When the chance came up to try a Brabantia in action, long-term, I grabbed it.As expected the bin looks and feels lovely. There’s definitely a feel-good factor to getting it out of the box; the materials are top rate and the printing feels indestructible. The metal used for the bin must be pretty thick – my ‘quality test’ of trying to deform the open end of the bin by squeezing it with the bucket out and lid off proved how rigid the structure is.You’d probably have to lie it down and stand on it to cause any real harm. The plastic bucket inside is also quite chunky, where it could have been thin and flimsy. You get the sense that no cost has been spared in making it all and the 10 year guarantee is taken seriously. The design of this particular model, Pauline, is quite elegant and unobtrusive. It looks good and doesn’t clash with anything else in our kitchen. The enamelled feel of the bin adds to the sense of quality and is an improvement over the steel versions, at least in my opinion. Cleaning is pretty simple since most surfaces are very smooth therefore dirt and spills can just be wiped off. The lid mechanism, which is probably the weak link in terms of longevity, feels great, though only time will tell if it lives up to the guarantee. In fact the lid is, in my mind, a much better alternative to a pedal bin. Pedal bins have holes and corners that attract dirt and their only benefit is hands-free opening. With a touch lid, even if you’ve got both hands full, you can usually get a finger onto it and give just that little bit of pressure needed to open it.Another great plus of this model is that, since it is tall, you barely need to bend to put stuff into it. The lid is about at hand level so that act of touch, drop, shut is done in a blink. I have to admit that I’m secretly incredibly pleased to finally have a nice bin in our kitchen. Maybe not to the point where I polish it every day due to the build-up of finger prints on lid and metal, of which there are many, but almost.Even after all the positive qualities I’ve just given, I still can’t get my head around the price. Yes, as a bin it screams quality, but there’s not really that much to it in parts and materials. Maybe I’m wrong. I would award 5 stars, but I've knocked one off due to the price, which would seem far more reasonable at the £60 mark. However, if you do have a little extra cash kicking around, you probably couldn’t do better for a bin than one from Brabantia.

My Husband and I have lived together for many years and one of his Husbandly duties is to routinely empty the bins. We have been through numerous kitchen bins; small ones, medium ones, large ones, ones with push top lids, swing top lids, lift up lids, and many, many more. However, none have satisfied my dear Husband. The bins have either been of insufficient size, their lids have not been appropriate for our usage, the only bin bags which fit are too flimsy and tear, and, most contentiously, the bins have refused to release the full bin bag on emptying; resulting in furious Basil Fawlty-like rants emanating from the kitchen on bin day. In desperation, we would then seek out another bin to try and quell the fury, but always looked past the more expensive Brabantia bins, assuming they were out of our league and for the kitchen elite only. However, last Christmas, after seeing the despair on my Husbands face after yet another bin had failed to satisfy, I made the decision to treat him to a 30l Brabantia bin. This was a risky move, Brabantia are the 'Daddy' of bins. What if we bought one and realised our expectations of a 'super bin' were wrong, and my Husband was left in despair, realising there really are no decent bins in the world at all? I ordered the bin, which was delivered promptly and in time for Christmas. I wrapped the present with a warm fuzzy feeling, hoping I would see my Husbands delighted face as he ripped open his present on Christmas morning, knowing his days of bin fury were finally over. The present was placed under the tree, and the 'guess the present game' began. He would never have expected this, I thought. When Christmas morning arrived, my Husband was more exited than the children to open his unknown gift, and rushed to open his presents. Full of Christmas cheer he ripped open the paper... and the look of disappointment on his face was one I shall never forget. He thought I'd bought him a radio controlled helicopter. Tension hung in the air for what seemed like an eternity, but a few sherries later, the 'tale of the Christmas bin' was jovially told to our relatives.Once the bin was up and running, my Husband soon came round. The lid clicks open and shut with a smooth motion. The air holes in the bottom of the inner bin result in the bin liner slipping out without effort. The easy clean lid means disinfecting is simple and effective. The Brabantia bin liners fit the bin perfectly and are very sturdy. Six months later and the 'bin to end all bins' is still going strong, and our kitchen is, for the first time ever, harmonious on bin day. Well done Brabantia.

We've had an excellent 60L Brabantia soft-touch bin since 2008, but after a kitchen-redo in 2018 its new location made it a bit of a nuisance as it's so big.Well, the spring on the lid snapped a few weeks' back and rather than try and source a replacement we decided 12 years was a good run and it felt like a good opportunity to downsize it the 40L (it might be misdescribed on Amazon as being 30L for some reason, so note this review is for the flat-backed 40L, not the all-round 30L), which is a little wider, but is shallower and has a flat back to go against a wall. On those grounds, it absolutely does the job, and indeed has a real benefit over the 60L (and the 30L) is being wider, sliding waste off cutting boards is so much easier, nothing goes on the floor ;) . And despite our slight fear about the downsizing in volume, 40L it turns out is still more than enough for a week, maybe sometimes even a little more, of kitchen waste for a couple of people. There are a couple of downsides. We don't think the soft-touch lid mechanism is anywhere near as good as the quality on our old 60L's lid, which was excellent (well, up until the point it suddenly wasn't, but that was after 12 years!). This rattles a little, and isn't as "soft". And we know it's not a one-off as we've actually had two, and the lid behaviour was identical on both. The first bin we were sent was unstable and rocked around while opening it. On investigating it (pictured) it turned out that the plastic base insert hadn't been attached properly and there was no way to reattach it, it was totally out of shape. We ordered a replacement and in that one it was fitted correctly, so we're pretty happy with it now: it's the right size for the position it's in, it's rock solid stable on the floor like the old one. It just seems there are some QA and cost-cutting issues at the factory, as shown by the broken base and cheaper-feeling lid. These are very expensive bins; one can accept the base was just a factory error, the lid feels a little more intentional. The broken bin was sent back and has been refunded with no issues. So we do recommend them, but check thoroughly and get it replaced if you find it's got anything that feels wrong.

I have been through about 1 bin every 6 months over the past few years since i stupidly gave away my old '1990s time served' (but still in fully functioning condition) 50 litre brabantia pedal bin,(I did hate getting bin bags out of my old one though, but didn't buy the real ones for it)Every other bin I bought failed miserably, either they cracked, split, liners wouldnt come out without a fight, then trapped the bin bags and split them with food going all over the place, lids fell off, you name and some of them weren't cheap either.Anyhow I defied my husband and bought this Brabantia(as my husband was horrified to see how much they cost, never having a Brabantia himself, and so not understanding why I wanted one)and boy, I'm so happy I bought it, Its such a great shape, for us, the 30 litre bin lasts about 3 days before it needs emptying. (We are a family of 4 who recycle cans etc seperately.)I didn't really have a dedicated space for my bin, but It Isn't too high or big,and it comfortably sits between and infront of my Amercican fridge freezer and kitchen units and and bizzarly, because its so slim, and not too high, It Isn't in the way,I can still open my top drawer and my fridge door without having to move the bin.So thats a bonus! So basically I love it, and so does my husband, the bags are easy to take out, there has been no spills, no smells, or mess so far, It came with 20 free bags and Im not too sure if its the design of the bin thats great and the liner and bags come out so easily, or its because of the bags being custom made ,(they are slim and long and have a couple of tiny holes in them to stop air traps (i presume)Anyhow it is really good looking and stylish, and fingerproof version is genious, and the opening action is really smooth, which to me indicates it stands a good chance of lasting well. its a big thumbs up from me and a big thankyou to the Amazon customer service team who bent over backwards to get it to me on time.

Our old Brabantia bin gave up the ghost after 10 years of rough an tumble, 2 kids, and numerous ill advised dishwasher cleans (apparently that's a big no no). After following us on 2 house moves rather than trying to fix it we thought it might be time for a new one, and wanted to simply go with the same again hoping for more great reliability. I did try to find a new lid (the opening mechanism broke) but even though they were once sold, sadly not available. The new design is identical in size (see photo's). The design for the lid opening is better, with everything mounted to the lid. Previously there was a little fastener peg in the rim that used to get clogged up easily and needed clearing.removing this in the design should mean less fiddling. The packaging shouts about XXL opening. In this instance that actually might be true. When scraping a chopping board into the bin, or peeling spuds, an extra bit of space can make the alot of difference. In the new design the bin opening (left to right) is nearly 26cm. Previously it was just over 21cm, so a pretty big difference in what is the same size product. The front to bag is also a little bigger but only a couple of cm.So, nothing really bad to say, but a couple of minor niggles. Spending so much on a bin is just about acceptable, but only supplying 3 sample Brabantia bin bags feels a little stingy. The final niggle, although we're reaching for things here, is that the bin top doesn't seem to sit on quite as snugly as before. There are little nodules that provide a spring loaded grip that almost feels magnetic. In the old design the fit was a snug pressure fit that felt a little tighter. So all in all, yes, it's just a bin, but nice to see that with a premium brand and 10 years of design thinking time, even the humble bin can be improved.

Kitchen bins strike me as quite expensive items for what they are, and, this Brabantia example is no exception. However, I have owned mine for a while now and this week bought another as a "commissioning gift" for my sister's new kitchen. Both versions are in matt steel finish. As I see it the pros and cons of this 30 Litre bin are;Pros- Good quality build - it feels as though it will last.- Looks good in an "Audi" kind of way - the styling is understated but it reeks quality.- The 30 litre capacity seems just right - there is a balance to be struck between not having to empty the bin too often and it getting smelly.- It has an inner bin with handle which is ventilated to prevent air gettingtrapped between the polythene liner and inner bin.- The base is non-slip and non-marking.- There is a handle on the outside of the bin body which also prevents the bin resting too close to your wall and marking it.- The lid is damped, opens nicely and silently, plus, the catch is easily user replaceable and cleaning is easy.- The top (lid) section of the bin fits the body without the liner being visible.- The external finish looks good and harmonises with stainless steel kitchen products nicely but does not attract finger marks etc. (There are a wide range of finishes available including "fingerprint resistant stainless steel").- The bin uses standard 30L bin liners and comes with a trial pack of Brabantia liners.Cons- Unlike a pedal operated bin this design means you have to touch the lid of this bin, albeit, lightly.- Nothing else.In summary, a good looking, very well made and practical product that does clearly justify it's price over economy versions. Recommended.

Before I bought this bin we had a cheap supermarket copy which I thought would be just as good. Needless to say it did not last so i ended up buying this one. From the moment I opened the box you could tell it was a superior quality, the mechanism works smoothly and the overall build quality is excellent. We have owned it for just over 18 months now and it is still going strong. At around 14 months the lid catch stopped working, which meant the link would not lock closed, but I went on to the Brabantia website and easily found the replacement part then filled out a form and it was sent out to me free of charge within a few days. I found this service absolutely amazing, most companies only offer 12 months warranty and to get get a product repaired would involve calling a call centre in another country and sending it off, so to be able to do this online and receive the new part within days was outstanding! Also the disassembly of the old part and installation of the new part was dead easy. The rest of the bin is holding up well, the fingerprint protection works well, it always looks clean and tidy and the bin is overall very easy to clean.Changing the bin bag is simple as it has vent holes at the bottom of the bin which stops the bag removal generating a vacuum like our old one did. We use standard bin bags, not the official Brabantia ones, but it is easier when you use the Brabantia bags as they fit perfectly. Lidl sell some bags that are designed to fit Brabantia bin and they are way cheaper so if you do want to use the Brabantia bags it would be worth giving these a go.I don't think i will ever buy another type of kitchen bin again.

I was sent this item for testing and impartial appraisal. This is expensive, but worth every penny. While it comes with a 10 year guarantee, you can reasonable expect it to last you much longer. I can say this with some certainty as I have owned and used a similar foot operated Brabantia bin for the last 6 years and it still looks and functions like new. This upgrade is a delight to the eye. And it really is an improvement. A light touch and the lid opens smoothly. It closes just as easily. Lovely to look at, slightly larger, and almost silent to use, the inner bucket lifts out effortlessly to make lining bag replacement dead easy. It comes with 3 bin liners.Forget about the skinny bin liners from your local supermarket which seem designed to burst open and spill your rubbish at will. Get Brabantia's own liners from Amazon which can be ordered as a subscribe and save item. They will retain your rubbish securely, are easy to remove and replace and will keep your wheelie bin clean and tidy too. This is very important at a time when all local authorities want to reduce collections to save money. Reliable, hygienic storage of garbage has never been more relevant. Brabantia, the well known Dutch firm, has been producing quality items for the home for decades now. If you can afford to invest in Brabantia products, and it is a sound investment, you will get the best available and save money long term. Highly recommend for lasting quality.

This splendid kitchen bin has a black plastic lid that is slightly concave and securely latches and unlocks with gentle pressure at the front. The lid is damped and rises gently ( but not so gently that you are waiting for it). The surround of the lid, which just lifts off the base is a stainless steel finish as is the base itself, ensuring that you will able to keep it clean for years to come. The huge inner space in the bin is filled by a robust plastic 'bucket' which can be taken out and disinfected/washed when necessary. There is a pack of 3 white bin liners provided of a size that you can adequately replace at Tesco or most supermarkets. These liners are essential to the ease of use and cleanliness of this bin,as on most occasions all you will need to do is lift it out and tie the bag for disposal - in fact if I was not disposed to buy liners, I wouldn't buy the bin either! You can get about 40-45 litres of rubbish in this bin before you have to empty it, which in a busy family house means that you might go two days without having to take the rubbish out if you live alone, then this is probably too big for you!. Most importantly to fit the liner, you must remove the lid of the bin - if you try to fit the liner with the lid attached, you will only cause frustration and end up ripping it.This is an attractive bin, that looks good in a modern kitchen and is designed to keep clean. An excellent design, we are very happy with ours.

Brabantia is a well-known and trusted brand when it comes to this style of bin, with the infamous and very slick looking 'touch and click' lid. On initial inspection they may come across as expensive but in the long term will serve you well. To begin with you have a 10 year guarantee upon registering the product with Brabantia. I would imagine it very difficult to damage one of these bins but any breakages/damage inflicted to it in that 10 years and they'll replace it, simple as.What I've found with my bin is that it looks much cleaner and tidier in the kitchen compared to the cheap plastic one I used to have. The way it is designed you don't really get leakages over the side of the bin and the lid mechanism keeps rubbish completely hidden, perfect if you don't like the look of clutter or 'overflowing bins'. It's extremely strong and has a firm grip on one side if you need to lift it for any reason. When it comes to emptying it, the outer bin encages an inner layer which you can lift out to easily remove the rubbish (this also keeps rubbish bags firmly in place). It's designed to fit the american style garbage bags (the white ones with draw strings) but regular black bags work just fine also. There really is no contender for such a sturdy, well designed and good looking bin. Big points for how compact it is also. Recently had my kitchen refurbished and this really completes the look now.

I chose this bin because it has a 10 year guarantee and I have heard that Brabantia's customer service is excellent if anything goes wrong, although touchwood, I haven't had to contact them! The bin is a matte stainless steel finish and looks very modern and stylish but I have found that it can attract fingerprints. A friend warned me I would need a stainless steel cleaner to clean marks from this bin, but I have found that a wipe with my usual multi-purpose spray does the trick and leaves a streak free finish.I was pleased to find that this came with a roll of Brabantia bin liners, as this wasn't mentioned on Amazon when I bought the product. I do like the liners but find other, cheaper brands fit just as well. The removable inner bucket is also a handy feature, and the small vent holes mean that there is no vacuum effect when removing the liners. Also, being able to remove the bucket makes it easy to disinfect the bin.The bin is tall and narrow and the opening is quite small, but opens easily and there has been no problems with the hinges. Only slight issue is that with it being quite narrow, bulkier items of rubbish can get stuck and sometimes have to be pushed down by hand. This bin is expensive, but I find it very durable and the classic design will look good for years to come, and of course you always have the 10 year guarantee to fall back on should you need it!

I love this bin. I never thought I could get so excited about household waste disposal, but after years of suffering from split bin bags, I was ready to pay more for a peaceful & chilled out bag-changing experience. If like me you are often tempted to over-fill your kitchen bin - you know, you should change the bag but it's raining/ it's late/ you can't be bothered, and you can just push down the rubbish for more room - then you'll know how hard it is to get the bag out when it's finally too full to fit more rubbish in. The bin grips the bag, and pulling it harder just makes the bag split around the top. So you pick the whole thing up and shake. Which just waves the whole bin around. So you try the pull the bin off with one foot. And the bag splits....This bin has an inner bin, with holes in the bottom, so there's no vacuum and the whole thing lifts out, and the bag lifts easily out of that. It's beautiful [sob]. You can tuck the top of the bin liner in between the two bins for a neater look, it makes it slightly harder to access the handle on the inner bin to lift out, but really only slightly. My husband thinks this bin is the key to a more harmonious family life. If he's exaggerating, it's not by much. From a purely aesthetic POV, the bin also looks good & doesn't suffer from fingerprints all over it (or dents from me trying to kick the bin off the suspended bag).

I've had this bin about a month now and am very pleased with it. It's expensive for a bin and I wouldn't have paid full RRP for it, but it's good quality and (hopefully) should last many years, at least as long as several cheaper ones put together. The bin's a good height for putting things in easily and the touch lid operates efficiently and is easy to use with an elbow/random bit of arm when your hands are full or messy. I often suffer with balance problems, so having a touch lid rather than a pedal is a big advantage, as opening it doesn't rely on standing on one leg! It's a lot easier to empty and to put in new bin bags than other bins I've used - the ones that came with it are extremely simple to put in and have the advantage of tie handles for when you take it out,but just normal black bin bags are easy to put in too and don't try to move or come out when the bin is in use (a problem I've had with other bins). The only bad point I can find is that the brushed steel finish looks a bit of a mess when it gets splashed and it takes more than just a quick wipe to get it off, but not really a big problem. With regards to buying it through amazon, it came within a week but the amount of packaging used was completely ridiculous! Thought amazon were meant to be cutting down on wasteful packing material?

I have owned the bin for around 8 years now and I am as happy with it now as I was when I first purchased it.The bin is a very shiny stainless steel and has a matt black touch open and close lid, which is very handy. I did find that removing the bin bags could be a little tricky at times, so invested in a couple of corrugated plastic strips that fit loosely between the bag and the inner edge of the bin, thereby solving the problem caused by the vacuum created when the bag is removed. The bin bags are fitted to an internal metal liner, which then slots into the outer housing; once the lid has been added, the liner itself is totally invisible.I find that I do not need to handle the main body of the bin as it can be moved around using a handle on the rear, plus the metal liner has a lift-up handle to allow easy emptying. The stainless steel outer therefore stays clean for long periods of time. The only regular cleaning I have found necessary is to the matt black lid - and that only needs a damp cloth to make it pristine again, even after the time I have owned it.I find that this capacity bin holds all of my non-recyclable/compostable kitchen waste over the course of most weeks, very rarely needing to be emptied more than once a week.

Brabantia bins are expensive, but the quality far surpasses anything else I've bought previously. The lid mechanism, although plastic, feels very solid and my 3-year-old hasn't broken it yet!The inner bucket has vent holes in the bottom to allow the bag to lift out easily. This also prevents nasty smells from building up inside the bin and makes it easy to clean (my tip: as it has holes in the bottom, take the bucket outside, put a few drops of detergent in it and fill it from the garden hose). The inside of the lid is suitably high so that rubbish doesn't touch the inside of it (unless you really overfill your bin. That said, it is also easy to clean. The "fingerproof" finish really works - no fingerprints! This is another blessing if you have small children in the house.I would not waste any money on Brabantia's own bin bags - the lid fits in such a way as to cover up any larger, cheaper bags you might be using, so no one will ever know!I was initially tempted by the more expensive Brabantia bin with a sensor lid but, after seeing negative reviews about the reliability, I decided to go for this more sensible option. I have so far not been disappointed.
